-Menu/Iron/Browserhax all work on the latest firmware again! DON'T DELAY in getting Homebrew.
-memchunkhax2 is a kernel11 exploit that allows downgrading to 9.2, and works on every firmware including 10.3.
>Is downgrading safe?
Things are going pretty well. Some bricks are simply people using the wrong firmware. Be sure you understand the risks.
-A libkhax variant of mch2 sysUpdater compiled by julian20 implements the safest settings so far
-Getting the downgrader to even start can require many tries, especially with New 3DS. Opening and closing an FTP app supposedly helps.
-Blank screen can be caused by Menuhax. Try pulling your SD card if you get it. Boot, reinsert, change theme.
-Apparently, the Wii U and 3DS use the same fucking keys... LOL
-Hykem is being weird.
-Linux can run on PS4. Thanks /g/.
-Cobra Black Fin was announced. http://wololo.net/2015/12/07/cobra-black-fin-an-upcoming-dongle-to-play-ps-vita-isos/
-A Vita update got released, you might not want to update since it fixes the email exploit.
>mfw I got 9.5.0-23E emu to work on 9.1.0-20J n3ds
Feels fucking good man
Please help my retard ass:
New3DS, was at 9.6, downgraded to 9.2.0, had a "an error has occurred" at the end of it, but still made it to 9.2.0. Things like Pasta,Minipasta, RX tools, gateway, etc will not run at all. Should I update and then downgrade again?
>remove SD card
the whole point of emunand is that it's a fake nand loaded from the sd card
removing the sd card causes it to be unable to load, and crashes your 3ds
backup your emunand before formatting
>go into emunand
I hope you have your backup.
>finally fucking worked
Which games should I put on this baby?
I already physically own the mainstream titles.
I have a problem with my \dbs
Multiple \dbs locations on \Nintendo 3DS and one that leads to only an \exdata folder.
Going to ask again because I'm seriously unsure if it's worth it to Unlink my nands.
>I have rxTools set to coldboot
>I've got apps and shit on emunand, nothing that I know of aside from menuhax obviously on sysnand.
>backed my sd card up a lot.
What would I have to do after unlinking my nands? I'm guessing I'd need to reinstall menuhax to coldboot again, but what all would be lost? And is it even worth it if I don't have the present glitch thing?
Question concerning the second pastebin N3DS/downgrade section Julian sysUpdater; twofold as it didn't seem to be answered in the OP/no pictures like previous pastebins.
Do you require the KhaxInit:Done for proper downgrading, (meaning if it ever says failed, it'll never work), and when you get it at Done, hit Y to downgrade, should anything show up, or does it stay unchanged during the downgrade?
I got the downgrade to fire 3 times last night on a different SysUpdater, but nothing stuck, just ended up with the Error screen, and Recovery moded back to 10.3 to start again. Pretty frustrating so far, considering a friend of mine has gotten two to work within < 10 tries.
Hey n3ds fags
I'm on an o3ds and tried to boot my physical MM3D in sysnand. It blocked me and an update to 9.5 notification popped up. So if you have a MM3D cart you can avoid the hassle and just get it from there.
>>127744685 here, now I'm really goddamned confused.
Just want to desync, yes. I don't want to lose my saves+legit games, so I am formatting the emunand and not sysnand. How do I do that?
I swear to fucking god this shit is so damn confusing, I threw my 3DS in a fit of rage.
>mfw have working autoboot emunand n3ds after only a day
>ads Cake files to SD card
>put SD card back into N3DS
>Menuhax isnt launching
I made an improved non-kickass starter pack.
It should have everything required point-to-point to get up and running from scratch (pre-downgrade) to rxTools (excluding the firmware files). I also took the liberty of rewriting the firmware .bat file to be more streamlined.
I wrote a pretty thorough readme for the entire process, but some wording is either vague or nonexistent so fleshing out those would be nice.
Also, it works during any part of the process so if you just downgraded and don't know what to do next you could follow along perfectly by starting to set up rxTools.
Thoughts and suggested improvements are appreciated.
Is it worth the hassle though? The only thing I've seen that it offers (unless you really can't tell the difference between your sysnand and emunand) is the ability to use themes properly without fucking up coldboot. Aside from themes are there any positives to unlinked nands?
Since most of you fgts are tech savvy and what not, is there an ez guide to go from pic related to pirated games? the pastebin and the flowchart are a little too complicated for me.
>there are still waitfags
>there are still ignorantuntiltoolatefags
Who has snacks ready for 10.4 day here? Dear god it will be the best entertainment in months.
Don't format with Gateway. Format with EMUNAND9.3dsx instead. It's more optimal for all the CFW including Gateway itself, and you don't even have to format the entire sd card.
speaking of titty ninjas, is there some kind of eng translation for the jpn version? I know SK has had some censorship issues in the west so I don't know what the definitive version would be.
also are there uncensor/decensor patches available?
I'm on the verge throwing my 3DS against the wall as hard as I can. I feel so fucking stupid throwing away everything because I got greedy. Can't find the CIA info is the worst fucking error and I can't do anything about it, since both the tux and julian builds look exactly the same. I delete the files, replace with the other, and the same menu text comes up and turns up the same failure.
>I'm going to system transfer to keep my mii plaza, and then downgrade both my n3ds and my o3ds again. Is this going to work, or will God punish me for my hubris and greed?
Truly, God exists and I'm suffering for my arrogance.
DO I REPLACE THE \dbs FILES BEFORE OR AFTER I SET UP EMUNAND?!?
I HAVE NOT SET UP EMUNAND YET AND I ALREADY HAVE \dbs LOCATIONS WITH FILES INSIDE!!
Asking again, I've read it is possible to install DSiWare cias from emu to sys but I have zero idea how, my google-fu failed me.
>flowchart are a little too complicated for me
Than wait for better versions of everything.
Things will only get easier from now on.
Anything related to sysNand is stored on SD and if he format it without tinyformat, He'll lose everything related to his haxx, which yould be even more stupid.
I don't remember? I think yes, but in any case you could just open it while on sysNand.
After trying this for over an 2 hours...it's finally working!!!!! ;_;
>PLEASE DON'T SOFTBRICK
>PLEASE DON'T SOFTBRICK
>PLEASE DON'T SOFTBRICK
>PLEASE DON'T SOFTBRICK
Please work after I take this SD card out!
Wait, why would you format EmuNAND for unlinking? Formatting EmuNAND is an exact replica of your SysNAND right after downgrading, has all your previously-downloaded eShop games/saves/dlc, and lets you update+run unsigned .cias
If you decide to do that in sysnand, you are risking bricks with every .cia you try to install, if you aren't 100% certain about what you're doing
Will try friendo. Also, should l format my SD card before starting the guide? l dont think l'll need the files l used to downgrade and it was a brand new SD to begin with.
Install a nightly build of rxTools afterwords if you want to coldboot, get an updated FBI, and you're done man.
skip to the steps that are applicable to you. Ignore his awkward editing in the first video.
Browserhax freezes on this
h-help me ;__;
Alright so let me get this straight.
If I want to get emunand and CFW without worrying about coldboot on an original 3ds, all I need to do is
1) be on 9.2
2) Get whatever CFW I decide on
2) use fbi to install fbi
3) set up an emunand
3) unlink emunands by formatting the sysnand
4) update emunand to 10.3 from the system settings in emunand
Am I missing anything, or is that about the gist of it?
I have the same issue and when it finally does downgrade I get an error on startup and have to update in safe mode. I have done this for 4 hours.
Ohohoho mine worked in the first try but it was suffering since it froze on the "installation done restarting in 10 seconds..." just when l was reading that some other retard bricked his 3ds because he downloaded the wrong firmware.
Not fun at all
Are you using a mac? You have to dot_clean the /updates/ directory to prevent file-reading errors if you are
Double-check you're using the correct downgrade pack. O3DS and N3DS are two different packs
Also try different builds/entrypoints. I personally recommend menuhax+tux build sysupdater
I've heard people trying up to 100+ times before it finally worked too: It's complete RNG after the setup is correct.
Good luck, anon! You can do it!
Delete all your payloads because your 3ds is 9.2 and the old 10.3 payloads won't work
>been doing this shit for the past 5+ hours
>cake installed, about to get started on upgrading my emunand
Should I even bother upgrading emunand right now since it can only go to 9.5 on n3DS? Does it take awhile? I think I might just stop for tonight and pick it back up tomorrow
So I downloaded a gba cia from 3dschaos but when i try to boot it up after installing it, it crashes unand and makes me reboot
I think it might be because its virtual console cia
Where can i get non VC gba cias?
Or does anyone have a link to the gba emulator for 3ds so i can just get a rom?
Looks like the homebrew gods were watching out for me :')
Never Mind After googling it. It seems that the latest version gets that error when trying to inject it the backup emunand so the fix is to use the 1.0.1 version instead to inject your emunand backup.
The solutions to
>cakes not loading
>HBL not booting
>sysupdater not reaching #8
are all TRY AGAIN UNTIL IT WORKS
>2) use fbi to install fbi
Nigga what the fuck are you doing
>2) Get whatever CFW I decide on
>3) set up an emunand
you need to format your emunand with gateway to inject your chosen CFW in it
JUS FOLLOW THE DAMN FLOWCHART BY THE BOOK.
How do I stop rxtools from hanging half way into installing? What am I doing wrong?
>trying to install Cakes and everything
>Launch it from Homebrew menu
what do i do anons
Probably takes a while. Use profi200 sysupdater (the original).
If you have a JN3DS or Euro3DS look up which files you have to remove from /updates/ before attempting or EmuNAND will brick. Make a backup of emunand with emunand tool first so you can re-inject your emunand if it bricks.
Grats! Good luck setting up CFW
>Anything related to sysNand is stored on SD and if he format it without tinyformat, He'll lose everything related to his haxx, which yould be even more stupid.
You have no idea what you're talking about. sysNAND is stored on a chip inside of your 3DS. emuNAND is stored on a partition on your SD card. If you backup your SD card and format emuNAND, it has the same effect (unlinking your NANDs) as formatting your sysNAND with SD card removed. You just restore all your files when you're done and you're good.
Nope, I'm on Linux. Would I need to clean the folders anwyay? I am using the right packs. I've been flipping between the two and Tux doesn't look like it's any different, they both read as 0.4.2 by profi200 or something for some reason. I'm using menuhax as my entry. I just feel like it'll never happen and I fucked myself out of a CFW ready DS because I wanted my Miis. I'm so upset with myself.
Is anyone experiencing the same thing? If I use the home screen app, the system freezes and the bottom screen turns red. Same thing if I try to boot HBL menu from the bootmanager.
So I've spent the last 30 hours trying to get my new 3ds to work with rx tools to find out it doesn't fucking work.
( which explains why I got a black screen).
I feel worn out and I'm losing my sanity,
can someone link me a proper guide for NEW 3ds ?
I can't take this anymore, I've read the pastebin so many times.
Even though I made sure I downloaded the right firmware, I was still scared that I would hard brick it.
I read that downgrading your firmware was the "easy" part. But I'm already exhausted over this. Maybe I should take a break now....
I don't know about Linux, but try looking for any hidden files your OS might have added to /updates/ because sysupdater is terrible at detecting the proper files (it literally grabs every file it sees in that folder)
Double-check the MD5 hashes for your downgrade packs, try different sd cards, but otherwise it's really just RNG and rebooting. I've heard people try up to 100+ times before it finally worked, so just be persistent.
You can also try opening FTBrony and closing it (press B twice) then open sysupdater immediately after.
As long as you have 10.3 and ironhax/menuhax installed, waiting is fine even after the 10.4 update... but if you softbrick on accident after 10.4 is out, you're fucked whether or not you actually brick, because you're forced to update.
Take a break at your own risk, lol
Is Yokai Watch's LEGIT .cia has been uploaded yet?
Oh yeah l penta checked to be sure but the fear was still there. lt got worse when the damn thing took 4ever to boot into 9.2.0
Btw, is there a chance to brick your console doing the CFW stuff?
Are you absolutely sure you set it up properly? I set mine up earlier today, and I vaguely remember having to put the proper slot0x25key.bin file, firmkey.bin and firmware.bin files in the sdmc:/cakes/ folder
You also have to be on 9.2 or lower firm. Unsure if you've already downgraded or not but yeah
>Btw, is there a chance to brick your console doing the CFW stuff?
That's why EmuNAND exists. SysNAND exists to give you an entrypoint into EmuNAND (even better if you set it to coldautoboot into a cfw for emunand)
Make backup restore points for your EmuNAND with EmuNAND Tool before doing anything dangerous, and inject your EmuNAND back in if it fucked up afterward.
I was able to downgrade it >>127746090
I'm just a little tired when I was repetitively
>turning on 3ds
>going to HBL
>Going to sysupdater
>turning off 3ds
But I heard from some people that it took all day for them so I guess I'm a little lucky.
no, not exactly
Now that I know I need to replace the \dbs files after emunand is set up, I don't know if I should create a \dbs folder in the location that only has exdata before or after I set up emunand
I have ctrbootmanager all set up with cakesfw, but when cake loads it goes to "Preparing home menu" loads to a random degree then stays at a black screen. I have separated the nands and I am on N3DS.
What do I do and the fuck did I do wrong.
>keep getting softbricks
>try plugging in the charger and opening and closing ftp-3ds
>get a black screen when I start sysupdater
Can I shut it down?
Asking one more time, I've already put rxtools on an original 3ds and everything has gone fine with my new 3ds so far but cakes wont load emunand for the final step.
I'm sure it must be one of these files that are not letting it load, any tips for this final step?
If you have autoboot crash into red/black screen, change theme in your EmuNAND.
Chances are you had Menuhax installed before creating EmuNAND and now it got copied over, changing theme will remove it from EmuNAND and your CFW will autoboot as it should!
To get into EmuNAND when having these crashes, just hold your Menuhax button after selecting CFW in CtrBootManager.
I feel like some of the internal hardware that comes from various companies affects the downgrade process, despite the models claiming to be the same. Maybe SD brand, too. Otherwise, it's just the random nature of the exploit itself, because everything has to somehow line up perfectly in the RAM or whatever in order for the exploit to even work, which can be tricky to make consistent when values are jumping all over the place internally.
Just a theory, though: I don't know how it actually works
Kind of redundant imo, just run pasta, get back in HBL and run FBI as a .3dsx
No harm in doing that, though: Just be careful which .cias you're installing to SysNAND: The only ones you really ever want to install are AGB_FIRM, TWL_FIRM, DS_whitelist, and all your DSi/GBA VC injection cias
Can I run fbi from the HLB?
I don't remember seeing it there.
Then again, I noticed I had a game installed in both nands and I couldn't run it anyway so I guess I'm just wasting my time.
Or does it have to do with this twl thing?
downgrading? naw, I'm doing it all I needed was a small phillips(the '+' shape screwdriver).
Anyone having trouble with some homebrew apps not always opening? it looks to me every time I open something there's a 1 in 3 chance it doesn't load properly and I gotta reboot.
How can i unlink NANDs keeping original sysNAND?
1) Bakcup "Nintendo 3ds" folder.
2) Format emuNAND through system settings.
3) Restore "Nintendo 3ds" folder.
1) Backup sysNAND and "Nintendo 3ds" folder.
2) Format sysNAND through system settings (removing sd card).
3) Format/Create emuNAND.
4) Restore sysNAND backup and "Nintendo 3ds" folder.
Download FBI (the official one, not the modified one) and put FBI.3dsx and FBI.smdh in sdmc:/3ds/FBI/
You have to get into a CFW before you can install any .cias or NAND patches (including TWL_FIRM) to SysNAND.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think most of the existing CFWs auto-patch a temporary fixed TWL_FIRM while you're running the CFW, so installing it+AGB_FIRM might be unnecessary afterall. Just install your GBA/DSi games to SysNAND, and install it to EmuNAND+SysNAND if you want to use it in EmuNAND.
Quick question, I'm going to go with Cakes for mine.
I see rxTools is set up to coolboot, but in the Cakes guide I'm looking for, it says it more convenient to coolboot to emunand.
Why is there this difference, and what does it mean?
>work all day on getting this to work
>Have it set for Cakefw
>turn on autoboot for cakes so i dont have to look through menu everytime
>get red screen on bottom
please help me anons, im at my breaking point and i feel bad now due to my dumb mistake
If you want the original sysnand, format emunand. I don't recommend doing this, though: EmuNAND exists to prevent bricks, and formatting emunand literally takes your sysnand and copies it to your sd card
If you really wanted to revert, you can always just inject your EmuNAND's NAND.bin back into SysNAND via gateway launcher
Downgraded to 9.2. Now I'm trying to get browserhax working again but it keeps failing. Whenever I delete the history and cookies it doesn't go into initial setup when I go to the browser.
Ok so I replaced my "old" sysupdater with the one OP has in the pastebin. Now I get this.
People who softbricked, which version of sysupdater eventually worked for you?
Still can't get MHX to work with Cake. EmuNAND is up to date and NTR is working as I'm able to run Rhythm Tengoku with it.
Can't get rxTools to boot with ctrBootManager either, despite using only the links provided in the pastebin and following every step to the letter.
AGB_FIRM: Firmware (FIRM) for Advanced Gameboy (AGB)
TWL_FIRM: DSi firmware
DS_whitelist: Unblocks ds-mode flashcarts that nintendo blocked over the course of update history, like gateway blue card
When you (or automatically by a CFW) patches those, it disables signature checking so you can run all of them properly without Nintendo's permission. Otherwise, you'll just crash as you attempt to run them
>I think it might be because its virtual console cia
>Where can i get non VC gba cias?
They don't exist.
If your NANDs are unlinked, you have to install it to both NANDs.
Don't bother with them, they don't run well.
Actually you can with a patched version of FBI, but this method became obsolete literally hours later when tux released his sysupdater
That method is also very limiting, as you can only inject a limiting amount of legit cias: Yokai Watch is not on that list, as far as I'm aware
Whenever I boot into Cakes, it loops me back to CTR, and when I try to boot into Cakes again, I get solid red on the bottom screen
h-help me here
But it's possible, I've been following this thread:
I just want to have Yokai Watch's legit .cia okay? Because it's on a bundled 2DS, I just have to wait someone to dump it. And I don't want to downgrade yet.
You can find them in the same 3DSISO thread where all the update/downgrade packs are. You only have to install them on SysNAND, but should install them on both Sys and EmuNAND if you want to run them in EmuNAND.
It happens because running in emunand requires rebooting, which boots you back into sysnand (you don't actually see it, but that's what happens) so it looks for both the game and the FIRM on sysnand
The problem with doing that is that after running cake, it boots back to the CtrBoot menu. So after Cake boots up, hold whatever key you set up to skip the alt boot and it should work fine.
As long as you don't let the browser know it's unupdated it won't lock you out and you'll be able to browserhax and go from there. There's dns servers to use when setting up your wifi which block Nintendo's update servers.
We're all gonna make it famicom.
Found them, which is the one I want to play DSiWare?
Finally, it's done...
Remaining questions: (I'm using Cakes)
1. How do I get my games that I've bought back onto here? will they show up in Emunand? I'm not actually sure where they are in the folder I backed up before I did all this.
2.Good place to get games?
3. o3ds user, I was told to go into System Settings in EmuNand and then update to update EmuNand but going into System Settings kicks me out of EmuNand. I'm not about to undo everything I just did, is there another System Settings I should use?
Unsure, maybe 4.0 because it's a newer version? You might not even need to do this: Being in CFW might auto-patch the FIRMs for you automatically, just run your games in SysNAND CFW
Oh, did you already inject FBI to your SysNAND H&S? Then just install FBI.cia with your H&S app (Seems redundant, but FBI.cia is likely updated from the version you injected)
If you didn't inject it yet, then no: HBL->PastaCFW sysnand->HBL->FBI.3dsx->FBI.cia
You must be in a CFW on SysNAND or you will not be able to install anything with your new FBI channel
I don't think there's a good way that I know of. I've just been restarting but I don't use Hbl often. Going into Ironhax/the menu will result in looping/red screen. I'm sure there is some way though. (you can also go into your system settings, back out, it'll kick you back to autoboot, select the hbl. voila.)
I'm still annoyed at the occasional yellow-screen freezing of menuhax loader/manager. Hate that yellow screen freeze shit so much.
You have to open the HBL payload in a text editor, CTRL+F for "boot.3dsx" and change the filename. Don't change the length of the filename, though: It can actually break the payload and you'll have to re-download a fixed one
I'm following this guide:
and one of the steps for 'booting into emunand' says "just replace the 9.2 firmware.bin with the 9.5 one and check the emunand patch."
what does it mean to check the emunand patch?
Alright, thank you anon. For some reason that made me feel a lot better.
Sorry anon, I hate to ask this but can you be a bit more specific, I'm tired and afraid of messing something up.
Alright I'll try that.
I'm on O3DS 9.2 and only have to get rxTools running using CtrBootManager. I've got the the rxtools folder on my SD card and can launch rxTools from the manager, the first time it installed something and the went to black screen, I tried restarting but it always gives me the black screen (it does show the logo for a second before the black screen), what am I doing wrong here?
I tried launching cakes from HBL and it gives me a black screen as well.
tl;dr rxtools through CtrBootManager is giving me black screens, what do I do?
>took 2 times to get downgrader working on my n3DS
>didn't even have to take out sd card
feels good man
no idea why you guys are having problems
You have to do the whole /dbs/ and Data Management initialization to SysNAND the same way you did to EmuNAND (if you already have)
Also, FBI will install to the "NAND" that you ran the app on. If not from the channel, pay attention to which NAND you were on when you got in HBL. Coldboot is still SysNAND
Open your homebrewlauncher_otherapp_payload or whatever filename in Notepad++. CTRL+F for "boot.3dsx" and change it to something like "boo2.3dsx"
Then make sure that your homebrew launcher boot.3dsx is boo2.3dsx in SD card root. Re-download it from the starter pack if you forgot which one it was.
I'm scared to fuck my coldboot up. what would the Hbl payload be called so I know I have the right file?
It's not a gr8 workaround, but it beats holding the power button down/home menu and powering off. You could do what the other anon told us though, I'm a bit paranoid so I'll possibly try it maybe.
My friends 3ds had a screen like that. I kinda fixed it by opening it and ripping out the parallax barrier.
I don't know, but I do know that the "RX3D" or "RX-E" has nothing to do with it. They're literally the same thing, "RX3D" is just used in a newer version of rxTools because they didn't want people to think "RX-S" was safe to update (E stands for emunand, S for sysnand, with this update they got them to be RX3D and Ver. instead)
I usually always found CIAs already spoofed, but I don't download so many, so I can't really tell.
I helped you. See >>127749058
either you have the wrong firmware.bin (this is a shitshow I can't point you to the right one)
or you have menuhax autobooting and messing everything up, in which case you can hold the key while starting to make it stop, then remove it later from the emunand side by changing themes
or something unknown
You still need SysNAND to run GBA and DSi games. Otherwise, yes: Just use EmuNAND for everything
It varies depending which system/firmware you're on. On your SD root there should be a file called homebrewlauncher_payload<someinfoaboutfirm+model+region>.bin
If it's not there, run HBL while holding Y, let it crash, and look for the file it generates.
You'll also need to put CTRBootManager's boot.3dsx and boot.cfg on your root after you've renamed the HBL one or coldboot won't find anything
FBI is just an app that lets you install .cia files. Installing any .cia file to your NAND is dangerous on SysNAND if you don't know what you're doing, but installing FBI.cia should be fine. Just make sure you download FBI.cia from the trusted github source and don't delete any important internal files and you won't brick from that
it just hangs here. all im trying to do is access emunand. any help would be nice
against all odds i sucessfully downgraded my n3s and spare o3ds to 9.2 without much hassle.
Now only problem is I got a mario & luigi paper jam bros cart that wont play since it requires update to 10.1. Is there any way to spoof the cart?
If I'm not in Emunand, I don't know what I'm doing. As it shows in the pic related normal boot goes into what I thought was the default, and in the guide it said to make a folder showing I'm not in EmuNand.
So going to the homebrew launcher, selecting Cakes, Boot CFW, I go to the 2nd screen where it's its own sort of setup, which is where FBI, title manager, manual homebrew lancher, my new cias etc show up. If this isn't EmuNand, what is?
As for the games I previously bought, I'm not sure what to copy over for it to show up, so I guess I'll just try trial and error for now.
cool, another thing, how does the NNID work? On Emunand I'll have my current ID, while on sysnand? Do I even need to register it since I don't want to go online there?
Also, I know that entering system settings will boot you back to sysnand once you get out, is there any other thing that does that? Can you prevent it?
Isn't it the reverse? I'm pretty sure RX-E is the new one from nightly builds/3.0? RX3D is 2.6 which is the older version.
Oh okay, There're two of those homebrewlauncher_payloads I'm guessing I leave the 9.2's Hbl alone and change/rename the 10.3 hbl? or vice versa?
I have the CTRbootmanager's .3dsx and .cfg I just have to rename/edit the file I guess.
that is the funniest sysnand i've ever seen. you realize you can just change the theme for emunand to make it stand out more, right?
Cakes boots into CFW by defalt (I think? Hold L while booting it to get into the menu and double-check which one it's booting into.
I'm guessing you don't see it on your SysNAND because the titles aren't signed, and can only see them in CFW where unsigned is patched
You should edit both. 9.2 HBl payload is for your sysnand and 10.3 is for your emunand (guessing you're on an O3DS)
Well if you're never installing a .cia to SysNAND then it's totally pointless to install FBI.cia at all, lol!
Most of your .cias should be installed in EmuNAND, but if you want to run DSi/GBA virtual console injections you must install it to SysNAND. That's probably the only reason you'd ever want to install anything to SysNAND, and anything else is straight up dangerous, which is why EmuNAND exists to make it easier to back up/restore your emulated (emu)NAND.
It's encrypted, but it's fine. Just CTRL+F for "boot.3dsx" and change it to whatever your homebrew boot.3dsx is called now. Don't change the length of the filename, though: Keep it 4 characters, followed by .3dsx
Still can't update for some strange reason. Wonder what I'm doing wrong.
When I got into emunand I was already all signed in on my nnid because it's a clone of your sysnand before formatting it. I guess just leave sysnand alone and don't worry about nnid there.
I believe system settings does what it does because it effectively reboots your 3ds when you close it (don't quote me on that but the effect is the pretty much the same).
For me it kicks me back to hbl whether I'm on emunand or sysnand, as menuhax is set to autoboot it (this kinda prevents it, the sysnand part at least). If not it'll go to sysnand.
Just make sure you can tell the difference between the two home screens.
Okay, I now understand. when booting cakes, select patches now has an 'enable emunand' check box.
now I'm running into an issue with 'Make sure the keyX is located at /slot0x25keyX.bin' issue though. Any insight?
The boot.3dsx from the starter pack on smealum's website is the Homebrew Launcher, which you should rename for your HBL channel payloads.
CTRBootManager should be the new boot.3dsx on your SD root. It lets you boot any other boot.3dsx files you specify in boot.cfg
Any other boot.3dsx files should be put in sd:/3ds/ under the folder name they exist in (you likely already have some)
>boot into FTP thing
>press b to exit
>pray to anime gods
>it just werks
I'm running out of ideas, I can't install anything on sys.
I'll take this as a signal not to mess around with this and just play 3ds games.
>tfw it's never going to work
I'm at wits end. I'm probably just going to find someone who can hardmod it and give them a copy of my NAND from my previous backup. It's the only thing I can think of that I can do now.
Unless the downgrader decides to randomly start working before update day.
Oh no I meant in the text files. Like when I ctrl+F there're quite a few boot.3dsx results. Do I need to rename them all? (I'm pretty sure there's a feature to rename them all at once anyways, just want to confirm I won't fuck it up by doing so.)
thanks mate, sorry for all the questions but another thing: if I copy my SD's contents to another SD, menuhax will still be installed right? Which files would I have to transfer if I don't want to transfer all the contents of the first SD?
I'm >>127749320 I did not know about switching themes, I'm not sure how to do that. I just thought I'd run straight to the games and make everything look pretty afterward.
I just found out about the option to hold L on booting up. Menuhax seems to override this decision and I can't figure out how to assign opening Menuhax to a different button.
What I take from this is to find a way to boot into EmuNand by default (ish), and maybe change the theme.
Every sysupdater softbricks me except julian's safemode version, which gives me the Failed to get CIA info error. I renamed it to boot.3dsx and put it on the root so I can just hit y and b forever and ever until it works. Gonna watch some Utena and hope something happens.
Shame. You can try contacting @hundshamer on gbatemp, as he does hardmod commissions for people.
Are you running FBI while inside of a CFW? Also, did you put /dbs/ in the proper folder and initialize the installation preparation by going to Data Management?
>I can't figure out how to assign opening Menuhax to a different button.
Boot HBL and run "Menuhax Manager" from the starter.zip pack on smealum's site. Then choose Config and follow the directions.
ok so rxtools 3.0 decided to shit on me, and a few emunand restores and stupid decisions later, I can't access eshop on emunand in my o3ds, which is updated to RX-3D 10.3. The thing is, I did a system format of the sysnand (which was probably a bad idea), so now I can't even go to nnid settings on emunand.
This isn't a horrible loss, since I can install updates and shit through cia files, but if there's a solution, I'm all ears.
Any anons willing to help me out?
>everything installs fine and reboots
>Remove SD Card
>Load safe menu and reinstall 10.3
I've done this three times already, anyone know what might be wrong?
Nevermind it works, I'm about to game now, goodbye y'all!
Are you using the correct downgrade pack? Double-check your region and system version. Also, N3DS and O3DS are completely separate packs. I recommend tux build in menuhax, by the way.
Restore your NAND.bin backup via gateway launcher and clean out all the CFW-related files from your SD card.
>Then choose Config and follow the directions.
>Configure/Check hax trigger buttons(s) which can override the default setting
>Only trigger the haxx when pad state matches the specified value
>when it doesn't match the specified value
>default PAD config is used
I don't know what any of this means, I just want it to boot menuhax by pressing R or Select or something.
Oh I also figured out that both the TuxSHsysupdater.zip and the Julian20 links from the pastebins md5sum out to the same number. I doubt that's a coincidence. Where are you getting the tux one with the steps?
After all this trouble to get the downgrade, emuNAND and all that other shit working, can I still play my original games (retail and eshop) and using my original saves? I mean, I saw that it was good to unlink my nands, and if I format the emuNAND one to do this, will that work?
I haven't done this one yet, but it looks like it depends on all those payload files on your root. I can't check because I'm answering on my phone.
Just copy all those random questionable files from your root as well as the other hax stuff, like the 3ds folder and whatever files your cfw uses.
Also, make sure you use https://gbatemp.net/threads/emunand-tool-release-and-support-thread.359239/ to extract the emunand from your old card and inject it into your new one, it's currently on a hidden partition. If injecting complains about file size use ver 1.01
GUYS I'M REALLY FUCKING CONFUSED OVER THE \DBS FILES
SOME SAY YOU DON'T NEED TO CHANGE THEM
ONE GUIDES SAYS TO CHANCE THEM BEFORE EMUNAND
ANOTHER PERSON SAID DOING THAT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING
I AM ON AN OLD 3DSXL
I HAVE MULTIPLE DBS LOCATIONS, INCLUDING ONE WITHOUT A DBS FOLDER AND ONLY EXDATA.
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH MISINFORMATION!?
DO I MAKE THE DBS FOLDER OR NOT?
DO I REPLACE THE FILES OR NOT?
JESUS CHRIST I CAN'T EVEN START SETTING UP EMUNAND BECAUSE NO ONE IS GIVING ME A FUCKING STRAIGHT ANSWER.
Hi anons looking for some quick clarification here since i'm a little bit confused. I just finished unlinking the sys/emuNANDS following this guide http://pastebin.com/WVszD3Tm .
7. Go to System Settings, check that the Firmware version says RX3D and run System Update if it does
8. Open the rxTools Menu by holding R while launching rxTools
9. Other Options -> Install FBI over Health&Safety App -> Install to emuNAND
10. Go back to the rxTools main menu and launch rxMode in emuNAND
Am I system updating the sysNAND or the emuNAND? The emuNAND is the one that should say RX3D in it correct? However, the step after implies that you are in the sysNAND which has me confused.
Also at the end of the guide he writes
>Install an updated FBI .cia after you're done with setup, rxTools's bundled version is outdated
Where can I get the updated FBI? Is he talking about rxtool's 3.0 fbi files?
Should be fine if you unlinked your nands already (aka formatted sysnand after setting up emunand)
Rename your Nintendo 3DS folder to something else and let your 3DS sysnand create a new one. Put the SD card back in your computer and take note of the name of the folder inside of SD:/Nintendo 3DS/
Delete that folder and rename the old one back. Navigate to the \Nintendo 3DS folder on the microSD and open the folder you saw earlier. (Make a TXT on that folder stating it's SysNAND, because the other one is EmuNAND)
Inside your SysNAND folder will be another folder that's all numbers and letters. Open that and you will see a folder called \extdata.
Create a new folder called \dbs there, next to the folder called \extdata. Put the two files that came in dbs.zip, called import.db and title.db, into the \dbs folder.
After that go to Sysnand System Settings>Data Management>3DS and hit "Reset"
Then you should be able to install FBI .cia files in SysNAND, assuming you ran FBI in a custom firmware like PastaCFW.
Homemenuhax->HBL->Pasta->FBI channel on home menu->TWL_FIRM.cia, AGB_FIRM.cia, all your VCInjectGAME.cia files
Type 1, hold your trigger button while tapping the touch screen, reboot
If that does the exact opposite, then do Type 2. Can't remember which was which.
"IMPORTANT: Don't run this with any sort of firmware spoofing enabled like Gateway mode/rx mode/whatever or it will brick! "
what does this mean? can i safely run this in gateway emunand or will it shit the bed and brick me?
Help me /hbg/ before I kill myself for not being able to play Project Mirai. FBI installer from rxtools still shit me. The thing is this error appears after installation reaches 100%. Fuck me.
Could someone help me out with this? it seems strange that the guide I'm following doesn't refer to this, and barely anything is said about it in this thread.
Everything I googled about it seems to be a bit aged as well.
>been a part of blackcats forever
>barely any .cias
I don't want to convert my own .3ds
EVERY GUIDE YOU SHIT
BOTH SAY TO DO IT
How easy is it to transfer SD cards? Going to bestbuy tommorow to get a 32gb, 4gb is abysmal
You can't install .cias until you initialize the /dbs/ folder or enter (or attempt to enter) eShop at least once.
If you enter Data Management after you've installed non-legit CIAs after unlinking NANDs, they will all be deleted, including save files.
Initialize via Data Management once, then never enter it again and use FBI/DevMenu/Save Data Filer to manage channels/saves from that point on
emunand9 is an app that will backup your system into a different partition of your SD so you can have your original 3DS stuff while having an emulated system you can install files without any risk or update your system
First of all, backup your whole SD's contest as it'll be formatted. Install Emunand9 via FBI or BigBlueMenu and run it, pick the first option (complete emunand install or something) and it'll format your whole stuff. Then, put your SD stuff back in (you'll have to reinstall menuhax via sliderhax, sorry). Booting your console while holding L for the HBL will now boot emunand while normal boots will bring up sysnand
After that, you'll need to unlink both of them. Go to your 3DS options to format your 3DS. When the big red Format button shows up, remove your SD from the slot and format. Boot your system up again and you'll have to do that initial setup. After that, reinsert you SD and slidehax your way to menuhax again
You have succesfully completed the whole process. You can now update your emunand to 10.3 while keeping sysnand to 9.2. If anything goes wrong with your 3DS later on, you can just boot the sysnand and to everything again
Homebrew General, what the fuck just happened.
I upgraded my emuNAND to 9.5 using some GBAtemp guide involving sysupdater, and now I have two copies of camera, eshops etc. instead of just one
How the fuck do I fix this
I haven't done that method myself, but I hear it works.
I personally would just put all the /dbs/ folders there manually. Maybe back up the entire Nintendo 3DS folder before doing it just in case I'm wrong (pretty confident it should work though).
The worst case scenario, you just replace the Nintendo 3DS folder with the backup one before attempting to modify it.
>Spent 3 days doing this
>Wasting my only day off of the entire week doing this and marathoning Prison School
>mfw RX 10.3 and putting SRW BX on my 3DS
IT WAS WORTH IT!!
Either uninstall the titles manually via FBI or try updating again, restoring EmuNAND and updating with a different pack. (Guessing you're on yurop? I think I saw someone on GBATemp with that same issue but on sysnand
Did you use the right region files?
This looks a lot like the Wii's sofbrick when you updated the system with a pirated burned DVD from another region, all the weather channels are such were cloned (happened to me)
>After that go to Sysnand System Settings>Data Management>3DS and hit "Reset"
You lost me there.
I go Sysnand System Settings > Data Management > 3ds > and here I see Software, Extra Data, Downloadable Content and Save-DAta backup. No reset.
Sleep mode fixes 3D in CFW for some reason. Incidentally, it also breaks c-stick in-game specifically in gateway cfw. rip
You can. Just use gateway launcher as a .3dsx and do that. You don't need the red card for that.
Software. It'll ask you to reset corrupted files.
Alright I'll do that method but please answer this one issue I have.
I do this AFTER emunand is set up, correct? And, as I mentioned before, I have 2 \dbs locations and one that leads to only \exdata, meaning there is an \exdata folder without a \dbs in the same place.
Should I create that \dbs? If so, before or after I set up emunand.
If my explanation was confusing I can post a picture of it.
OK thanks for that. Also how would I go about uninstalling games safely? FBI doesn't seem to have one.
I read on the guide that going through 3DS data management will delete all non-legit data though that was for BBM and not FBI.

Honestly I'd get FBI on your sysnand and repair DBS before formatting emunand, so dbs fix and FBI carries over. Otherwise you'll have to deal with the godawful FBI injection method.
If you already unlinked NANDs, dump your EmuNAND with EmuNAND Tool, restore it to your SysNAND by putting the backup as NAND.bin on sd root while holding up and pressing A on Downgrade in Gateway Menu (no card needed) and focus on getting FBI on sysnand+dbs repair first
Nah, I've seen it happen on GBATemp before. I'll look for the thread if you want.
Just inject your EmuNAND backup back into EmuNAND with EmuNAND Tool. If you don't have one, use the NAND.bin sysnand backup you made before unlinking the nands... You at least have one, right..?
Through system settings make sure RX-E or RX3D is in front of the numbers before you do it.
If you're worried shit fucking up, I just did it a few minutes ago and I'm installing my first .cia at the moment >>127750381
Even shittemp agrees that's never going to happen
CFW is only for the dedicated worthy few (or lazy-ass bastards who get their friends to set it up for them)
Don't. the folder is literally just "dbs" and should be placed next to "extdata"
I have a really odd problem after unlinking my 2ds, whenever I try to view my friendslist on emunand, i get a error, normal on sysnand. I'm thinking its trying to view both at the same time im guessing?
how exactly do i go about fixing this, it's not a big problem but its buggy and could be part of a bigger problem
Either restore your emunand backup, uninstall stuff via FBI (you'll have to look up the codes for the other region utilites like camera and such) or just format your 3DS and start over from the beginning
Also pay more attention next time
>Honestly I'd get FBI on your sysnand and repair DBS before formatting emunand, so dbs fix and FBI carries over. Otherwise you'll have to deal with the godawful FBI injection method.

I'm not even that far yet man, I'm following this guide:
>Create a new folder called \dbs there, next to the folder called \extdata. Put the two files that came in dbs.zip, called import.db and title.db, into the \dbs folder.
>Don't do this if you already have a \dbs folder containing import.db and title.db in there!
Two locations in \Nintendo 3DS have a \dbs next to an \exdata, but one location does not.
Should I just not bother with any of it and just go through the steps in the guide?
Hey man I know the feeling, PSP was MUCH easier than this back then, but once I managed to get my 3DS downgraded to 9.2 there was no going back. I said I'm not quitting until this works or I brick my 3DS.
It is and it doesn't ask me to reset corrupted data.
Here you go my fellow comrades, I found this video that can kinda give you an idea on how to downgrade your 3ds kinda
This guy also made a video on the OLD 3ds's on how to get RX tools
Now all we need is someone to come through with the NEW 3ds and we are g2g
So, uh, anyone else having trouble with the 3d after installing CFW? It works fine if I'm running things normally, but once I boot up cakes, it just turns into double-images or something, like the parallax barrier is fucked up.
Yup, don't be scared man. Believe! You already came this far, FINISH IT!
3DS homebrew reminds me a lot of the old Twilight Hack for the Wii
>get a copy of 1.0 Twilight Princess
>load up a custom save
>boot the game and suicide
>this brought up the wad manager
>had to manually install and modify cIOS
shit was retarded hard
Got everything working
my only regret is that it's a shitty 2ds instead of a nice new3ds
In /Nintendo 3DS/ one folder is EmuNAND and the other is SysNAND. If you're unsure which is which, rename Nintendo 3DS to a different folder name and let SysNAND generate a new one. Find out which one SysNAND made and log it in a .txt for future reference.
One folder doesn't have /extdata/ probably because you hardly put any games/apps on it, and i'm willing to bet that's the sysnand one. Just put /dbs/ there anyway: it'll be fine
gateway-3ds.com download 3.6.1 (latest) and enter the 3dsx.zip folder. put it in SD:/3ds/GW/GW.3dsx and run from HBL
You'll be fine man. If it has RX-EVERYTHING or RX3D you're good to update.
Most of people who asked this question are scared to death even though they've done everything right.
and just to make sure i'm not crazy, are people able to view their friendslists on emunand after the unlink
sleep mode fixes it
Whoops, forgot to say in case it wasn't obvious: After you know which Nintendo 3DS folder is your sysnand, rename the actual folder back so your 3DS can find it.
And don't worry about fucking up. All you're doing is messing with the SD card right now.
But how is that possible if I haven't even run EmuNAND or SysNAND yet?
I've had those locations before I even downgraded, those are native to the 3DS? I thought those were application names?
I'm aware, the 2ds screen is really ass though
the psp was truly the best cfw device
Is that the same NAND folder you're trying to install .cias to? If you already initialized it, then you should be able to install via FBI or DevMenu as long as you're running a CFW like Cakes, Pasta, or RXTools
Another possibility: You put your SD card in someone else's 3DS and it generated that other folder. If that's the case, your 3DS can't read that extra folder you have because it doesn't match any of your NANDs, and you shouldn't have to worry about it. Applications and saves are in the folders inside of those folders. Dunno the structure after that because they're encrypted, but SaveDataFiler and DevMenu know how to decrypt them because they're official+leaked Nintendo Dev apps.
Anyone else having a hard time installing fbi.cia? I keep getting install failed.
Just downloaded MHX and Paper Jam .cias
Had to delete Kid Icarus Uprising thoughave since it took up so much damn space. At least I completed the main story a long time ago. I don't feel like doing all the extra shit and online is dead as fuck.
I really REALLY thank you for trying to help me but this isn't going to work and honestly I don´t even want DSiWare that much besides just like 3 games, I'm sticking to 3ds only.
I was formatting my new sd card with gateway for nand and it seems to have frozen
do I just hard reset and try again?
That never happened with my other sd card
Initialize /dbs/ via >>127750819
(or enter eShop at least once, i think?) and run FBI in a CFW. Then try again.
Maybe it's trying to boot EmuNAND. Or wait, did you even downgrade to 9.2?
Glad to help, but sorry to hear it didn't work out. Have fun with 3DS stuff, though!
Because you have to fucking format the card before you can inject it with emunand tools?
Pokemon ROM hacks
Paper Jam, but it seems just as boring as Sticker Star so idk how much of that I'll suffer through
I'm playing a Japanese game on an America 3DS.
I never thought this day would come. It was really worth the wait
I never even got to that part yet. I'm still on #43 on the tutorial http://pastebin.com/ndvW5Aji
I reset it before and I'm still having a hard time. Sometimes when I launch FBI it even starts with a black screen.
Ohhh ok I think I understand now.
At one time, I had 2 different SD cards, both with different app data, I wasn't sure how to merge them, so I put the data from both cards onto one and over wrote whatever came up (stupid I know but I didn't know of any way to merge data from two different cards onto one).
So one location is being read by the 3DS and the other isn't? Ok, now I understand. Will that become a problem later on when I need to figure out which is emu and which is sys? Or with emunand sort this out for me?
In the end, does this mean I don't need to worry about \dbs at all unless I get into a hang up later with the eshop, emunand, etc?
Did you already unlink NANDs? If so then just update back to 10.3 and you're good.
If you already unlinked, then do this:
Extract your EmuNAND's NAND.bin with EmuNAND Tool. Rename that file to NAND.bin and put it on the root of your SD card
If the GW.3dsx method isn't working from menuhax, then put Launcher.dat on your root and use your web browser to load up go.gateway-3ds.com
Once you get in Gateway Menu, hold up and press A on Downgrade Console to go to Restore NAND and it will restore your original NAND back to sysnand. From there, perform a system update back to 10.3 and you're golden.
>I reset it before and I'm still having a hard time. Sometimes when I launch FBI it even starts with a black screen.
Are you running it in a CFW? If you are, try a different entrypoint like browserhax if menuhax isn't working. Also, make sure you're using the official FBI by profi200 and not some modified one. You can google for that and find the github release.
Whenever in doubt, rename your Nintendo 3DS folder and let SysNAND generate another folder. Using that information, delete that folder and replace it with the original one. Then make a NAND.txt in the /Nintendo 3DS/ folder so you can log which is which
Make sure your card is formatted as FAT32. Google how to do that if you don't know how.
Then, use Gateway Launcher to format your card (I'd usually recommend EmuNAND9 but if you already did it for your other card, then...)
Dump EmuNAND from your old card and inject it into the new one with EmuNAND Tool
