New3DS, was at 9.6, downgraded to 9.2.0, had a "an error has occurred" at the end of it, but still made it to 9.2.0. Things like Pasta,Minipasta, RX tools, gateway, etc will not run at all. Should I update and then downgrade again?

the whole point of emunand is that it's a fake nand loaded from the sd card

removing the sd card causes it to be unable to load, and crashes your 3ds

backup your emunand before formatting

I have a problem with my \dbs

Going to ask again because I'm seriously unsure if it's worth it to Unlink my nands.

Question concerning the second pastebin N3DS/downgrade section Julian sysUpdater; twofold as it didn't seem to be answered in the OP/no pictures like previous pastebins.

Do you require the KhaxInit:Done for proper downgrading, (meaning if it ever says failed, it'll never work), and when you get it at Done, hit Y to downgrade, should anything show up, or does it stay unchanged during the downgrade?

I got the downgrade to fire 3 times last night on a different SysUpdater, but nothing stuck, just ended up with the Error screen, and Recovery moded back to 10.3 to start again. Pretty frustrating so far, considering a friend of mine has gotten two to work within < 10 tries.

I'm on an o3ds and tried to boot my physical MM3D in sysnand. It blocked me and an update to 9.5 notification popped up. So if you have a MM3D cart you can avoid the hassle and just get it from there.

I made an improved non-kickass starter pack.

It should have everything required point-to-point to get up and running from scratch (pre-downgrade) to rxTools (excluding the firmware files). I also took the liberty of rewriting the firmware .bat file to be more streamlined.
I wrote a pretty thorough readme for the entire process, but some wording is either vague or nonexistent so fleshing out those would be nice.
Also, it works during any part of the process so if you just downgraded and don't know what to do next you could follow along perfectly by starting to set up rxTools.
Thoughts and suggested improvements are appreciated.

Don't format with Gateway. Format with EMUNAND9.3dsx instead. It's more optimal for all the CFW including Gateway itself, and you don't even have to format the entire sd card.

Wait, why would you format EmuNAND for unlinking? Formatting EmuNAND is an exact replica of your SysNAND right after downgrading, has all your previously-downloaded eShop games/saves/dlc, and lets you update+run unsigned .cias

If you decide to do that in sysnand, you are risking bricks with every .cia you try to install, if you aren't 100% certain about what you're doing

Install a nightly build of rxTools afterwords if you want to coldboot, get an updated FBI, and you're done man. skip to the steps that are applicable to you. Ignore his awkward editing in the first video.

Alright so let me get this straight.

If I want to get emunand and CFW without worrying about coldboot on an original 3ds, all I need to do is

1) be on 9.2
2) Get whatever CFW I decide on
2) use fbi to install fbi
3) set up an emunand
3) unlink emunands by formatting the sysnand
4) update emunand to 10.3 from the system settings in emunand
5) profit?

Am I missing anything, or is that about the gist of it?

Double-check you're using the correct downgrade pack. O3DS and N3DS are two different packs

Also try different builds/entrypoints. I personally recommend menuhax+tux build sysupdater

I've heard people trying up to 100+ times before it finally worked too: It's complete RNG after the setup is correct.

Never Mind After googling it. It seems that the latest version gets that error when trying to inject it the backup emunand so the fix is to use the 1.0.1 version instead to inject your emunand backup.

Probably takes a while. Use profi200 sysupdater (the original).

If you have a JN3DS or Euro3DS look up which files you have to remove from /updates/ before attempting or EmuNAND will brick. Make a backup of emunand with emunand tool first so you can re-inject your emunand if it bricks.

You have no idea what you're talking about. sysNAND is stored on a chip inside of your 3DS. emuNAND is stored on a partition on your SD card. If you backup your SD card and format emuNAND, it has the same effect (unlinking your NANDs) as formatting your sysNAND with SD card removed. You just restore all your files when you're done and you're good.

Nope, I'm on Linux. Would I need to clean the folders anwyay? I am using the right packs. I've been flipping between the two and Tux doesn't look like it's any different, they both read as 0.4.2 by profi200 or something for some reason. I'm using menuhax as my entry. I tried launching homebrew launcher after making an emunand and it took forever then booted me into some kind of gridlauncher

Remember not to update to 10.4 when it comes out, EVEN IF Smealum says it's ok.

I don't know about Linux, but try looking for any hidden files your OS might have added to /updates/ because sysupdater is terrible at detecting the proper files (it literally grabs every file it sees in that folder)

Double-check the MD5 hashes for your downgrade packs, try different sd cards, but otherwise it's really just RNG and rebooting. I've heard people try up to 100+ times before it finally worked, so just be persistent.

You can also try opening FTBrony and closing it (press B twice) then open sysupdater immediately after.

As long as you have 10.3 and ironhax/menuhax installed, waiting is fine even after the 10.4 update... but if you softbrick on accident after 10.4 is out, you're fucked whether or not you actually brick, because you're forced to update.

That's why EmuNAND exists. SysNAND exists to give you an entrypoint into EmuNAND (even better if you set it to coldautoboot into a cfw for emunand)

Make backup restore points for your EmuNAND with EmuNAND Tool before doing anything dangerous, and inject your EmuNAND back in if it fucked up afterward.

Asking one more time, I've already put rxtools on an original 3ds and everything has gone fine with my new 3ds so far but cakes wont load emunand for the final step.

I'm sure it must be one of these files that are not letting it load, any tips for this final step?

If you have autoboot crash into red/black screen, change theme in your EmuNAND.

Chances are you had Menuhax installed before creating EmuNAND and now it got copied over, changing theme will remove it from EmuNAND and your CFW will autoboot as it should!

To get into EmuNAND when having these crashes, just hold your Menuhax button after selecting CFW in CtrBootManager.

I feel like some of the internal hardware that comes from various companies affects the downgrade process, despite the models claiming to be the same. Maybe SD brand, too. Otherwise, it's just the random nature of the exploit itself, because everything has to somehow line up perfectly in the RAM or whatever in order for the exploit to even work, which can be tricky to make consistent when values are jumping all over the place internally.

Download FBI (the official one, not the modified one) and put FBI.3dsx and FBI.smdh in sdmc:/3ds/FBI/

You have to get into a CFW before you can install any .cias or NAND patches (including TWL_FIRM) to SysNAND.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think most of the existing CFWs auto-patch a temporary fixed TWL_FIRM while you're running the CFW, so installing it+AGB_FIRM might be unnecessary afterall. Just install your GBA/DSi games to SysNAND, and install it to EmuNAND+SysNAND if you want to use it in EmuNAND.

If you want the original sysnand, format emunand. I don't recommend doing this, though: EmuNAND exists to prevent bricks, and formatting emunand literally takes your sysnand and copies it to your sd card

If you really wanted to revert, you can always just inject your EmuNAND's NAND.bin back into SysNAND via gateway launcher

You can find them in the same 3DSISO thread where all the update/downgrade packs are. You only have to install them on SysNAND, but should install them on both Sys and EmuNAND if you want to run them in EmuNAND.

I don't think there's a good way that I know of. I've just been restarting but I don't use Hbl often. Going into Ironhax/the menu will result in looping/red screen. I'm sure there is some way though. (you can also go into your system settings, back out, it'll kick you back to autoboot, select the hbl. voila.)

I'm on O3DS 9.2 and only have to get rxTools running using CtrBootManager. I've got the the rxtools folder on my SD card and can launch rxTools from the manager, the first time it installed something and the went to black screen, I tried restarting but it always gives me the black screen (it does show the logo for a second before the black screen), what am I doing wrong here?

I tried launching cakes from HBL and it gives me a black screen as well.

It varies depending which system/firmware you're on. On your SD root there should be a file called homebrewlauncher_payload<someinfoaboutfirm+model+region>.bin

If it's not there, run HBL while holding Y, let it crash, and look for the file it generates.

You'll also need to put CTRBootManager's boot.3dsx and boot.cfg on your root after you've renamed the HBL one or coldboot won't find anything

FBI is just an app that lets you install .cia files. Installing any .cia file to your NAND is dangerous on SysNAND if you don't know what you're doing, but installing FBI.cia should be fine. Just make sure you download FBI.cia from the trusted github source and don't delete any important internal files and you won't brick from that

If I'm not in Emunand, I don't know what I'm doing. As it shows in the pic related normal boot goes into what I thought was the default, and in the guide it said to make a folder showing I'm not in EmuNand.

So going to the homebrew launcher, selecting Cakes, Boot CFW, I go to the 2nd screen where it's its own sort of setup, which is where FBI, title manager, manual homebrew lancher, my new cias etc show up. If this isn't EmuNand, what is?

When I got into emunand I was already all signed in on my nnid because it's a clone of your sysnand before formatting it. I guess just leave sysnand alone and don't worry about nnid there.

I believe system settings does what it does because it effectively reboots your 3ds when you close it (don't quote me on that but the effect is the pretty much the same).
For me it kicks me back to hbl whether I'm on emunand or sysnand, as menuhax is set to autoboot it (this kinda prevents it, the sysnand part at least). If not it'll go to sysnand.
Just make sure you can tell the difference between the two home screens.

Okay, I now understand. when booting cakes, select patches now has an 'enable emunand' check box.

now I'm running into an issue with 'Make sure the keyX is located at /slot0x25keyX.bin' issue though. Any insight?

The boot.3dsx from the starter pack on smealum's website is the Homebrew Launcher, which you should rename for your HBL channel payloads.

CTRBootManager should be the new boot.3dsx on your SD root. It lets you boot any other boot.3dsx files you specify in boot.cfg

Any other boot.3dsx files should be put in sd:/3ds/ under the folder name they exist in (you likely already have some)

I just found out about the option to hold L on booting up. Menuhax seems to override this decision and I can't figure out how to assign opening Menuhax to a different button.

What I take from this is to find a way to boot into EmuNand by default (ish), and maybe change the theme.

Every sysupdater softbricks me except julian's safemode version, which gives me the Failed to get CIA info error. I renamed it to boot.3dsx and put it on the root so I can just hit y and b forever and ever until it works. Gonna watch some Utena and hope something happens.

Needs some links to some good CIAs for Smash DLC that are confirmed to work. Navagating 3DSISO is a worse hell than the process of unlinking Nands.

ok so rxtools 3.0 decided to shit on me, and a few emunand restores and stupid decisions later, I can't access eshop on emunand in my o3ds, which is updated to RX-3D 10.3. The thing is, I did a system format of the sysnand (which was probably a bad idea), so now I can't even go to nnid settings on emunand.

This isn't a horrible loss, since I can install updates and shit through cia files, but if there's a solution, I'm all ears.

Any anons willing to help me out?

Are you using the correct downgrade pack? Double-check your region and system version. Also, N3DS and O3DS are completely separate packs. I recommend tux build in menuhax, by the way.

Oh I also figured out that both the TuxSHsysupdater.zip and the Julian20 links from the pastebins md5sum out to the same number. I doubt that's a coincidence. Where are you getting the tux one with the steps?
