What exactly is a soft brick?

I love piracy.

I hope WiiU 5.5 comes soon, I'm having a lot of fun downgrading 3DSs.

Is there anything I can do in regards to getting System Update in the recovery menu to work more reliably? I've been trying to update from a soft-brick more times than I've actually run the sysUpdater.

How do I install cfw after downgrading? I just want to play MHX and FE if

I wanna kill myself. I had cfw installed but I updated the wrong nand and I gotta go from scratch.

Okay I downgraded tro 9.2

So, I did some tutorials yesterday and everything worked out really smoothly, no troubles at all. But I've ended up with a fresh emunand and my 9.2 sysnand is the one with my actual purchases and games on it.

If I wanted to swap this around before I spend too much time fucking with my new emunand, do I just

Does a format just keep sysnand on 9.2 at that point? I've heard some stuff about it wanting an internet connection?

I've gotten all the way up to launching rxtools or any cfw into emunand and get a black screen each time.

I figure it's because the firmware.bin files are all for 9.2 or 9.5, while I'm on 9.1.

How to I play EU .cias on my US 3DS?

I made a, seemingly better, starter pack.

It should have everything required point-to-point to get up and running from scratch (pre-downgrade) to rxTools (excluding the firmware files). I also took the liberty of rewriting the firmware .bat file to be more streamlined.

I wrote a pretty thorough readme for the entire process, but some wording is either vague or nonexistent so fleshing out those would be nice. For instance, I could drop the hint at rxTools 2.6 since this pack provides 3.0.

Also, it works during any part of the process so if you just downgraded and don't know what to do next you could follow along perfectly by starting to set up rxTools.

Yo! Everyone, got a quick and important question.

So I got everything working perfectly fine and clean. However, to do so, I had to do a COMPLETE wipe and started with a clean card. This means I've got a new nnid.

Anyway to import my old one? Before I wiped, I backed up EVERYTHING and while I'm not overly sad about losing my save data or whatever, I like to retain my NNID so I don't lose everything I've bought from the Nintendo store you know?

TL;DR: I have a new nnid and I want my old one back on RX-E or whatever.

I even have another 3DS if that'll help.

So I have rxTools working, and FBI is also running in the Homebrew Launcher.
Is it a Pirate's life for me yet, or am I missing anything?

You should use FBI to install BigBlueMenu, since the former has problems with stuff with large filesizes (including many games). Installing an HBL .cia could also be useful.

Carts can run 3DS and 3DZ files and use micro SD as well as SD cards. That's their only advantage.

Saves are tied to carts/digital versions yeah. You can carry on playing them anyway.

Headers don't matter for CIA files, only for carts.

Yep. If you want you can format without formatting the SD card using TinyFormat instead of Nintendo's official tool, so you just keep them, no need for formatting them.
Note that these files won't be accessed by the NAND you format unless you format it again (which re-links the nands, after that I guess you might format the other one, so you basically switch their folders)

I've downgraded to 9.20, I've reinstalled menuhax, I've put the gateway 'launcher.dat' on my SD card, and now when I try to launch the gateway menu through the browser it just stays on the 'gateway is loading' screen. When I woke up I copied a couple more .cia files onto my SD card, but now when I go into rxtools it's just giving me a black screen after the "Loading rxMode" screen

The NAND's are unlinked, the firmware's lettered, and all that good stuff.

With RXTools in process, is all that's left to do install some CIA's and get my game on?

and do I update the emunand for firmware spoofing for new games? It's about the last step I need to get it done... just trying to get some confirmation

I'm getting nothing but "Failed to get Cia file info!" I have the folder directly in my SD card's root folder but nothing is happening. Also I can't exit out of FTP whenever I launch it, it keeps crashing.

So I installed FBI to my NAND, backed up my NAND, formatted my SD and made an emuNAND out of my NAND that had FBI on it, and now when I boot into my emuNAND, FBI isn't there. What the fuck? Literally everything else is good to go except this, what gives?
