>Monster Hunter X
Browser/Menu/Ironhax are working again with 10.3. Anyone interested in playing Cross should get them NOW.
***Downgrade testing is in its beta phase. While not without risks, several hunters did report successful downgrades.
memchunkhax2 will enable downgrading any 3DS's firmware to 9.2. Visit Homebrew General for details.

You can change right from the very beginning. No idea what you're talking about. Most HAs are weapon specific obviously so you won't have access to them if you switch weapons.
When I switched from SnS to CB I couldn't select them
Alright this answers it, I was talking to the instructor. Thanks anon
The first few hours of MH is so boring starting out and gathering things before you can consistently hunt.
How the fuck do people get ~850 defense? I have all rare 10 armor maxed out on strong armor spheres and I'm barely at 700. Of course I can't get into any high level GQs to get divine armor spheres because I get kicked on sight for having low defense. Don't divine armor spheres only raise your defense by 1 a piece anyways?
skills, items and armor are mostly translated. the game plays pretty much the same as 4u with small variations in the movesets. and it's not like you're reading what npcs and quests say.
>want to play MHX online with random Japanese people using a weapon I have little experience with but would like to learn
>panic out of fear and uncertainty as to how they'd react and end up not doing it
have any of you folks joined random Japanese rooms in MHX? how was it like?
I guess I should've expected it.
My experience with 126+ so far is
>hey gunner, you have low defense
>you'll get one shot
>i'm telling you man you have way too low defense
>then they all carted
Thank god a few people still play /mhg/ or it would be unbearable
>"Are you sure you should do this man?"
>"You have really low defense"
It'll be fine, I'll just not get hit
>"Well, don't complain to us when you die."
>They all cart
>We're playing local
>I don't say anything, just be smug
Always feels good.
I'm missing a language pack for Chinese aren't I? All of the boxes show the same text.
No there's still a core group of players left that play we just don't bother to post rooms in the thread because of all the shitposting. 4u is dead is a meme.
If you search under the fishing tag you'll usually still find a room or two depending on the hours, especially now that our perma-online hunter has returned (Blanche)
Blanche is back? praise Blanche!
What if there's not a single Blanche but it's actually a line of blanches who take over at different times of day to be
active 24/7? It could be like the Dread Pirate Roberts, but Blanche.Maybe the sudden disconnects are caused when
another Blanche tries logging in before the old one logs out.
PS I thought it would be a week plus before I get my repaired N3ds back, but apparently it's already on the truck for delivery. Hunt-night? hunt-night.
They could simply need Low Rank parts. Personally I don't allow for carrying. This game actually has a feature to limit the HR of your room, although sometimes players from /mhg/ could also gear down to help you if you ask nicely.
Maybe you should play Monster Hunter Online, where they gave a Congalala sub the gift of a Kushala-tier fart aura.
>Hit or miss. Remember you sometimes end up with 12 years olds, as they play this game at a younger age range.
Children all the way up to grandparents play this game in Japan, its popularity is ridiculous.
Jeeze, and I thought Frontier with HC Congalala farts having crazy range and Dragon Wind Press was bad.
Having that be an aura would be rough.
Got my 3DS downgraded, then emunand reupgraded with rxTools rxMode
Now where can I download MHX with the updates and the English patch?
Asking for a couple friends here. In order to play online, all you need to do is install the 1.1 update .cia? And it's no longer playable online if you don't have CFW on a non-JP 3ds, correct?
>it's back is white like a real life alpha male gorilla
That's nice. Can't believe nobody has thought of this before.
Yep. You're just gonna need to be good at following directions. Use rxTools or Decrypt9 to generate the Xorpads by simply copying ncchinfo.bin to your SD card root. Once you learn to do this once, you'll be set for creating any future translation patches before anyone can even upload them.
>Blades bounce off tail
>Normal damage to head instead of bonus
>No noticeable blade weakpoints
>Flies into the air and screams
>Hunts you down and tail whips you before you're finished covering your ears
JESUS CHRIST WHY
>Not taking the chance to play a MH with dual analog sticks on a proper controller
I really do hope they'll sort out controller support properly. The first time I tried emulating Dos without a gamepad, it took me 10 minutes before I decided to wait until I bought one. Keyboard/mouse controls are awful.
In a game where you don't require vertical aiming (outside of gunner weapons, mouse would be acceptable there), I don't see the point of having to waste one whole hand on your mouse when you can just bind screen rotation to 2 keyboard keys.
Gamepad support is nearly there, but needs more polish. They recently made it so it's closer to mainline with respect to aiming attacks during animations.
It's awful for UI control, though, many things require that you use the mouse. This makes no sense at all considering MH has traditionally been a gamepad-only game.
You just reminded me how I never used my analog sticks for 2 years of having a playstation 1, when I was very young.
Such as the inventory, correct? I still have plenty of MHX to play for months on end. I hope they'll flesh out controls by the time I finally get bored of it.
>all those mouse jittering
Holy fuck. That hurts. I can't even watch this without the danger of receiving a headache.
Every now and then I want to go out of my way to make a video of me playing Frontier or PPSSPP on the PC.
Videos like these remind me that it's a terrible idea.
Probably holding onto the mouse with a death grip while attacking leading to the slight jitter.
>manual screen shakes
>character doesn't slow down while sheathing
>LS literally has *teleports behind you* move
Do you have more?
As someone who has never played 4th gen... Is that supposed to be greatsword? What the fuck happened?
What, as in there's an actual hardware disconnection and the mouse isn't usable even in the OS?
Sometimes with gamepad the game thinks the mouse is out when it isn't and the UI gets stuck. I haven't figured a fix except to hit random buttons on the mouse, keyboard, and gamepad and hope it works.
MHX Eng Patch Question
What exactly does this mean?
I tried using the converter but it said something along the lines of it couldnt find anything
I'm assuming because the file I made should've been .3ds, but instead its just type "file"
Just ignore that. The dum-dum who wrote that is assuming you have a Gateway. It's gonna work fine. You are correct that you should have produced a .3ds at some point though. Is your file ~1.48 gb? If so, see how you get on just adding the .3ds extension to it.
oh fuck, I thought to try that after posting and it just finished
I did that
I added .3ds to the end of the file I got out of 3DS Builder, then put it in the roms folder and ran that shit
I'm just now getting an error trying to install the main game's cia
fuck, i might not have the right one
Here are the cias I have on my SD
Are these correct?
Just stop. Once you have a .3ds file, your life's mission is to get xorpads from it, then you can create the .cia file.
>hunt an azure rathalos online
>two HR 6's with a G ranker
>the other rank 6 drops
>long fight, only cart once
>weaken it enough so that it flies back to its roost
>G-ranker gets a full charge on his GS and smashes its head
>leap over him after the attack connects for a flying downward LS cut
>Reach level 40 in MHO
>Immediately changes me to HR9
>Some people are lower, like HR7
I don't understand
It's weird how the majority of players are Greatsword babies, yet it's also weird how the majority of players hate fighting Kirin, despite the Greatsword being the second best weapon to fight Kirin with, second only to the Hammer.
I wonder why this is. Is it because Greatsword babbies don't have the patience to fight Kirin?
This dalamadur wall is bullshit
>can't do multiplayer without randoms tripple carting
>can't output enough damage to kill it solo
>MH3U - 400 hours.
>Lost data due to trading it in towards MH4U.
>MH4U - 700 hours
>Lost data due to
Homebrew methods that had to take place. Got that downgrade first try,
I don't think MHX is worth losing my 4U shit. I was just gitting gud with Sword and Shield, and now...it's gone. Poof.
Caravan Grind and Charm Autism..fantastic deterrents from playing the game again. Thanks Capcom.
>Backed it up using SVDT like a retard instead of just using the system backup.
>Thought it'd work
>IT REALLY DIDN'T WORK
>Backed up everything using SVDT
>All I got is a Kid Icarus save and fuck all else.
Hah. Joke's on me.
Joke's on me...
Yep. I got my entertainment value out of 4U though. I'm not going to waste time re-grinding back to G570. That's...suicide. I'm not that bored.
I don't know, I just uncapped at HR5. Perhaps HR is based on the monsters you've hunted rather than experience, in which case the fewer bulletin board and side quests you've done/more you've hunted after hitting experience cap the higher your HR would be when uncapping?
I know I'm on low stars and all but why the fuck is everything dying so fast in MHX? I kinda feel sorry for the monsters at how bad I'm ramming their asshole. Please tell me it gets way harder than this, otherwise it's a pretty fucking neat MH.
MHX is the first time I've played a fully Japanese game. I haven't actually had much trouble picking up on it. I can read a lot of monster and material names already.
If you've actually played MH a lot before, you can also easily identify which needed materials belong to which monster, along with stuff like ores and bugs.
got my 3ds back today! completely fixed, they had to replace the main PCB. anyone want to do some 4u memes tonight?
>tfw Forest and Hills again
How many of the old maps are in this game?
Fun as fuck, even with its animation canceling. It'll never be as fun as Blue Yian Kut-Ku in 4U
or MHObut it's still my favourite first gen monster (only because Blue Kut-Ku was kinda boring in Freedom)
>320 sleep (awaken)
>long white, purp with +1
This is good right? I can make a set with Honed Blade, Evasion +2, Awaken and Challenger +2. Don't really use hammer though
Gunners get one-shot at every defense range without Defender/Moxie/Guts, so I'm not sure what you're implying with all of this. Not really sure why they kept the "gunners have low armor" crap in 4U
anyone want to come watch and laugh as I try to hunt for the first time in 3 months?
yes, this is mh4u.
my friends list got wiped when my ds was repaired, so come join and I'll get you re-added.
>Finally finish all the stupid 1* gathering quests
>There's a new quest available
>Deliver 5 Exquisite Shroom
Gonna kill myself if a big monster doesn't show up in this quest
Where the fuck do I find killer motherfucking beetles in Cross?
I've been catching bugs the whole day yesterday and only found one so far. Is this some anti-piracy measure?
Also, what's the best way to get more fertilizers to fuel my farm?
>finally get 3ds repaired after 3 months without monster hunter
>internet is acting worse than blanche's.
>tfw visiting all the old villages
I wasn't ready for these feels
>playing it on an o3ds and complaining
I just want a rundown of this mode because it's the biggest change I've ever seen in MH in forever and it looks crazy fun.
I don't have that issue. I'm on an XL.
Talk to your housecat, or go to the cat on the barrel at the farm. I don't know specific directions for your housecat, but the farm cat is the bottom option.
>Does the game get any more bullshit than the Cephadrome
It's the lowest framerate at which most people perceive motion and not a slideshow, and early hollywood was all about cutting corners to save budget, in this case film since having even 48 fps would double the film needed; Now that everything is digital it's because the main cash cows to be milked in the movie industry are people who watch movies all the time and have eaten so much shit and been raised by parents who ate so much shit that they're used to the taste of shit and nothing else, and the finer things taste wrong to them.
konchu are SO FUCKING GAY
by the way ive asked this like 5 times but never got an answer but is there any ability for nyantas that allow you to throw tranq bombs? i want to capture monsters with my kitties
Anyone else just starting off in MHX wanna do some multiplayer?
Downgraded everything today on a n3ds.
I used this to downgrade: https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/
If you get an error where it says it can't get the cia file info then try to launch ftbrony before starting sysupdater. It worked for me after a few times.
After that use this https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-setting-up-9-0-9-2-n3ds-xl-for-rxtools-cfw-including-emunand-coldboot-cia-manager.405589/
read CAREFULLY every fucking line.
I am and I do, but I've barely started. Doing 2* Village quests. 1* GH includes some monsters I haven't even seen in the Village yet.
Just got myself a Maccau armor, after a hundred hours of killer beetle farming.
What are the dangers of hacking your 3DS? I checked /hbg/ and they only tell you how to do it. There was something about new 3DSes bricking when you downgraded, but I'm not sure if I'd need to do that if I wanted to hack mine to jump on MHO
X shouldn't be your first MH
If anything try playing 4U first
Took me around 19 hours and 30+ soft bricks but that was due to the early software for downgrading and was easily fixable it just took alot of time. As long as you dont turn off your 3ds during the downgrading process and aren't a total retard you should be fine. If you want it to be easier just install browserhax and menuhax and wait on 10.3 until better downgrading software is made
Nah 4u is alot more straight forward and has an actual sort of tutorial unlike other MH games and unless your japanese is good enough I doubt X will be alot of help consider the new systems that are most likely one offs.
I would start with 4u anon, but it is up to you.
Thanks, I just fond of playing with party, saw alot of people playing X right now so I guess I can have some fun with other.
Solo is really boring desu. But I will probably get 4U after put some hours into X
It also tells you which one.
Example: >This is the pack to downgrade your OLD 3DS from 9.3U/10.3U to 9.2U with the new sysUpdater 0.4.2b (BE CAREFUL ^^)
Download the file and then run the rar through the md5 check and compare if you got the correct file.
Ah, my bad, I read the parts above that that said "update only", and thought it applied to a software I didnt have.
Will this process also include the ftbrony you are talking about?
You just start it once then close it when you always get the "titleException: main.cpp:148; Result: 0xD900182F Failed to get CIA file info!"
I tried it without ftbrony many times and never could get the update process to start.
With ftbrony it worked after 3 trys.
Launching sysupdater might freeze your 3ds. Just restart it and try again as long as you haven't started the update process yet.
>Mounting and toppling is basically designed for GS
>GS is generally a lot less prone to wind and shit
>tfw Rath landing doesn't disrupt charging anymore
If youre talking about the comparison site, yes thats it, now Im trying to read up on how to get homebrew running, since this is my first time looking into this kind of thing. I have the homebrew start kit installed, now just trying to figure out what to do from here
I have a question friends
Are DB's damage per blade or as a whole
if I have a 300 atk DB does this mean that I have 300 per blade which would equal to 600 if both hits? does the same apply for elements?
Just got to high rank in X, what's the best starting hr armor set to make (i'm using GS) , i want to make silver sol like literally everyone later, but will need something before that .
Are there monster fights where you just fucking hate every second and just stop trying at all?
everytime I fight Najaralas, Spiders, Seltas Queen I just dorp everything and wail on that shit until its over, I stop trying to evade or even drink potions I just wnt it to end as much as possible which is ironic since the fight would be shorter if I played normally, its just the whole fight is a fucking chore, not even hard
>try out switch axe in training arena
>a few aerial hits here and there but overall boring as fuck
>suddenly style is up
>comboing like a madman
>get almost all hits in
>wind up animation for phial explosion starts but maccau is out of range
>just before the explosion it jumps head on into the explosion
I did officially upgrade, now Im on homebrew and Im doing the downgrade, Ive gotten two error notifications called error 115, Im waiting now on attempt 3 to see if it will downgrade
Format your SD card
Insert into 3DS
Change theme once and go back to default
unpack starter pack onto SD
unpack sysupdater into the 3ds folder of the starter pack
unpack the downgrade files to SD card into a folder called updates
start sysupdater (you can start ftbrony before this and press b to exit out)
>Gunner is the only elemental weapon left in MHX
>Chameleos is now the only monster weak to element in MHX
It's so that the 3ds creates the necessary folders for menuhax to work
Play MH4U if you're new to the genre. It's overall a rock solid game and gets you better into it.
Change to a color then change back to default at the bottom.
You can use the browserhax but later you install menuhax anyways.
Do it now or do it later. Doesn't matter.
FIY you can install menuhax with the browserhax.
I'm really not getting it, I downloaded the files on to the microsd card and got homebrew running, are you saying that I need to remove the files. Change theme, then reinstall them?
Gah is it so hard to do what the instructions say.
Lets say you start from scratch:
1. Format your SD card with SD Formatter
2. Insert SD into 3DS
3. Change 3DS theme once then go back to 'default'
4. Eject SD
5. Unpack starter pack onto SD card
6. Unpack sysupdater into the '3ds' folder that is on your SD card that came with the starter pack. NOT 'Nintendo 3DS' but '3ds'
7. Create updates folder on the root of the SD card and extract all downgrade files into this folder
8. Start Homebrew Launcher (Ironhax Menuhax Browserhax whatever)
9. Start sysupdater (You can start ftbrony before this and press b to exit out and then start the sysupdater if you always get the "titleException: main.cpp:148; Result: 0xD900182F Failed to get CIA file info!" error.)
Monster Hunter is a videogame. Videogames are either played for fun or competitive value.
Monster Hunter is a PvE videogame, therefore there is no competitive value.
LS is undeniably more fun than SA ever will be (subjectively). This is why it's better to use the Longsword.
This is just a fresh start scenario. You don't have to format. Also get a bigger card if it's 4gb.
Emunand will take 2gb for itself. MHX is about 1.5 gb and it needs another 1.5gb while installing.
Great game on par with 4U itself, not better or worse. A LOT of changes to the game's core mechanics, primarily. This will be the determining factor for you whether you will like it or not, but nothing stops you from just going guild style and treating it like an older Monster Hunter.
Definitely worth it.
Switch Axe is a fun idea, though, since it's effectively a two-stance weapon. I kinda like it, but there's no denying that LS has a more solid concept. Not that any of this matters to minmaxers.
The irony of this joke that is the speedrunning scene is how everyone neglect arena quests despite having target times. The playerbase must have fallen pretty low if they cant deal with getting fast times with gimped set-ups in the arena.
>Use GS and Hammer in every game
>That safe and secure feelio knowing my weapons will always be top or near-top tier
Life is good when you don't use a meme weapon
Are there any guides or pastebins or whatever that shows what differences weapons have between the 4 styles?
Also is there any nuance to Nyanta attacks or is it pretty much just hit button and dodge when you gon git hit
Solo and duo times aren't kept separate, though, so the leaderboards and guild cards will always be filled with duo times only.
But yes, you make a very good point. However, it would end up being disregarded just as fast because Pixel Eater and I hold the fastest Kecha Wacha time in /mhg/ (I think, it was #1 when we got the time).
I'm currently in HR7 and I've only been using all 4 longswords of the Elite Four, solo. My times rarely go past 10 minutes, with my fastest time being ~7 minutes Dinovaldo with the level 4 Tamamitsune longsword. Element is fine. Never listen to minmaxers.
Sometimes, you just feel like Chinese female costumes are a tad inappropriate for hunting a monster with
>kill a monster
>crouch to carve
>a fucking swarm of neopterons out of nowhere starts stinging you
>Why do you even listen to /mhg/?
This. Anyone is welcome to lurk here, but you have to be fucking weak-willed to let yourself be manipulated by the collective's thinking.
However, for the sake of dignity, its wise to keep such dissident preferences and thoughts to yourself, lest you'll be shamed for the eternity of your life.
I mean, unless you're actively failing the mission I don't see a reason to optimize unless you find it a fun thing to do.
The game isn't going anywhere, there's no real rush. Just play with whatever you have the most fun with. If that happens to be min/maxing, that's fine too.
Besides from the roll, some weapons get some of their movesets gimped for aerial. IMO aerial IG is pretty great for aerial, as it only has it A slam removed in favor of sick air leaps and spins
That's not how the damage formula works. Each hit has a motion value which uses a portion of the weapons raw, and the full elemental value. Because of that it's typically a good idea to bring a proper element on weapons that hit as fast as a DB does.
I did not mean it in a way that completely neglects the motion values
What I wanted to ask was; say a great sword has 1500 atk would this mean that a 300 atk DB deal 300 per sword? Im asking this because DBs have a separate motion value from each blade, each blade deals its own mv
>MH in glorious 60fps
Now if only Tencent can fix the animations to make them less stiff and also remove the F2P features, we might have a good game here.
Wherever frenzy goes, Gore follows
And wherever Gore goes, Shaggy must follow as well.
it doesnt necessarily work like that. THe difference with DBs and other weapon is that you are constantly attacking twice in your combos
so to answer your question, yes each blade will deal '300' damage (not counting anything)
Good morning /mhg/. What are you hunting today?
Also is there a circle pad for the XL? I have one and I wanted to get one but I've only seen it for the LL and the normal sized. Granted I haven't been actively searching yet.
Does it make a big difference when playing gunner? I never tried it because I have this block in my mind that says I can only play gunner if I have a pad.
