Kind of, they're the only good missile system that hits the size of ships they were meant for good.
IIRC, HAM's despite being a cruiser platform have the hardest time hitting other cruisers because they have poor explosion radius and explosion velocity, HML's are a little better but do literally jack shit DPS

The same goes with torps, unless its Torpedos from a Stealth Bomber, Torps in general have great DPS but such little of it actually gets applied to another ship that your DPS goes straight to hell, also they have extremely short range for some reason, a stealth bomber's torps can get out to 50+ IIRC but a battleship torpedo barely touches 30km. Most battleships that use missiles stop at cruiser missiles because cruise missiles hit really good and do good DPS as well, Rapid heavies are a new thing but only for battleships that need to shit on cruisers

Coming back after a few years. Have a main with a broad and decent-to-good skillset apart from caps. Is there anything I could get involved with these days that could earn me 1-2 PLEX a month either semi-afk or with a relatively small time investment?
I used to keep two accounts afloat with station trading, but I see the price of PLEX has continued to rise so I'm not sure I could manage even one now. I'd be willing to throw my main into a full-fledged profit building activity even if it meant training up an alt for the random putzing around high, low and w-space I like to do.

Probably one of two things: set up region-wide (very low) buy orders and occasionally get it all hauled to a hub, profiting off of lazy people who can't be assed to haul stuff themselves, or comparing prices across region borders and profiting whenever a disparity shows up.
Both are pretty standard trading tactics.

Going into more (or just different) markets is also something I highly recommend to any traders just because parking yourself in Jita is a surefire way to get burnt out in no time, even without all the lag and bullshit that goes on in that system.
Other hubs, regions and strategies may be slower, but there's less competition, so you can do better with less skill, opportunities present themselves more clearly, and you may even wind up making MORE profit than if you operated exclusively in the biggest hubs.
Hell, some of the most successful traders operate exclusively by creating, manipulating and exploiting microhubs that form near fights, chokepoints and occupations. If someone's in the middle of a war, needs a tackle ship, and doesn't have one, they aren't going to look twice at what you're charging for a rifter and a scram if it's the only nearby option.

the thing about plexing your trial is you don't really get to change your mind halfway through because the time spent training skills is very precious and starting to do something else in the middle because you're bored is inefficient. going to plex with trade? start training trade skills and don't stop. going to explore? start training archeology and cloak and don't stop.

I've tried before I gave up after it took about 6 hours for me to finally learn in a training mission I had to go to a wormhole or something to get an instanced area that was unique for my character's mission.
Anytime I tried searching for a guide, I'd mostly get either optimization guides to do something (PVP, minning, etc) or else it seems like it was outdated and talking about things in the system that weren't there

A good way to tell a story isn't with walloftext.jpg
It's interactive environments, like exploring through an abandoned ship and discovering why it was abandoned.
You can throw bits of text in there, on datapads, computers, whatever, but it isn't necessary to get the story from that.
Eve tries to tell stories in the most boring fashion imaginable, with a wall of text that nobody ever reads, for a task that everyone does for the isk.
Remove isk incentive
Stop doing walls of text
Create rich interactive and good looking environments and you're on the right track.

What does it matter?
If nobody is playing the game, it makes no difference how much media attention it gets. Sure it will be bundled with every rift [Pre-Order], but when they won't sell many of those to consumers it doesn't matter. Tech reviewers will test out the Oculus for a review and then put it down for 6 months until a new game comes out.
The oculus needs to be in the hands of the consumers, and for 600€ + the cost of a high-end computer, not many people are going to own it.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the next area being looked at after citadels is carebear PVE stuff. Which is absolutely perfect if it coincides with a lot of people checking out the game again. The PVE side of Eve has always been really lacking, and yet it's what most players in the game actually do. CSM and forums et al are driven by a very loud and outspoken group that cares more about alliance, sov, and PVP than they do about making things nice for the PVE "shitters" that pay for the servers.

yes, a machariel has the best speed of all battleships which makes it really good at bumping. One machariel bump will stop your align for minutes at a time, since a freighter's inertia is so stupidly high to begin with, the freighter will just keep on flying and flying in that general direction. Hence the "you might as well be dead" thing. Gankers warp to the machariel, approach the freighter and gank it effortlessly.

Also, sometimes people bring up the "its a capital ship, give it support!" what they really mean is "log on a webbing alt" because thats the only real way of being able to move a freighter safely at all and its not fool proof either. Since webs don't reduce inertia at all, one machariel bump will still spell death for you.

I looked at training up for freighters and decided it wasn't fucking worth it. Rather than being so tanky they're basically impervious to ganks, they're the absolute easiest ships to gank in highsec, period.
I'll train up for a blockade runner and end it there. Anything less then covops or 2fast4u align just isn't worthwhile with how commonplace highsec ganks are.

Rookie brookie here, I'm getting really into running data and relic sites but the ones in hisec attract flies like honey. I want to move into losec where I heard the competition is scarcer, so I'm trying to build a basic frigate (the only ship I can both fly and afford to lose on the regular) that won't get warp scrambled easily and still survives at least a few hits from most pirates, long enough to warp away. I'm thinking of fitting Magnates for this purpose because of their abundance of low slots and have 2-3 warp core stabs and 1-2 modules for surviving. if you want to get an accurate reading on how damage mitigatey your ship is in EFT, mouse over the propulsion icon thing in your stats and it'll pop up a thing telling you your speed:sig ratio.

They can be buffed in other ways to compensate. The problem with suicide ganking is there is literally no penalty, like someone already said. Destroyers are so cheap even a week old characters can throw them away in the dozens.
Forcing gankers to resort to more expensive ships if they want to keep ganking any and all freighters they please will at least be a step in the right direction to fix this.

It's not worth training up for freighters and shipping billions of isk of goods around in high sec when you start looking at the risk of doing so.
It's already well known you need an alt with webs and a second alt to scout, to truck your fat fairy ass around to begin with, and you're still utterly fucked if some machariel starts bumping you.
A single freighter loss could put you 2-5b isk in the hole. Nevermind the hassle involved and how slow the freighter is. It's at the point where you'd have to be fucking stupid to transport goods in a freighter.
If you want to haul in highsec, you use DST's or Blockade Runners.
And that really ought to say something about the current state of the highsec trade routes when you're forced to use low/null transports to properly mitigate the risks.

I don't know how much you know, but EVE is a game of pacing. There are a gazillion skills in the game, all of which train to 5 levels and all of which lets you do something new. Training all of these skills up level 5 is nearly impossible because of the time it takes.
But with that said, EVE is also the game where you could pilot a ship and be engaged with the biggest fleets in the entire galaxy and making meaningful PVP contributions inside of a week if you really wanted to.
But basically, to begin with, do the tutorial and then you do something called the Epic mission arc to get yourself settled in. After that, try out anything you want. Try mining, try exploration, try PVP, try whatever. The only thing you really need to do is keep your skill queue filled up at all times. Doesn't matter that much if you train something you won't end up using that much, it's much better than training nothing at all.
