What is Grim Dawn
Grim Dawn is an ARPG made by a few left over developers from Iron Lore Entertainment who also made Titan Quest along with with a few other devs including one D1/D2 designer. Currently you can't really pirate it because it it breaks NPCS and quests (custom DRM I'm guessing) but there is a DRM free version planned for launch.

A lot of people seem to defend PoE by saying "end game is maps, 40 hours in PoE is like 1 hour in grim dawn". I understand it needs to be like this to support the whole F2P thing, but seriously, if I've spent 40 hours in a game and it still feels boring, it's not a good game.
I think we should link the build editor tool instead.
It lets you view devotions, thought some of them are broken right now (the big ones like abomination, leviathan, blind monk, etc. are bugged), it lets you plan things out in a rudimentary way.

Well, brute force is a passive that only affects two-handed weapons. Primal strike is an active spell with a cooldown. They can be used together.
Yes, devotion spells will have a chance to proc off the secondary affects of spells, too.
Autoattack passives only proc off basic autoattacks and autoattack replacers.
You probably mean savagery, not brute force. Primal strike can be modified with a passive to be usable as an autoattack replacement, but it doesn't become a true autoattack modifier like savagery or cadence. It won't proc passives that work with autoattacks like upheaval or feral hunger. It will trigger the devotion skill you link to it, but nothing else.
No, it's a passive. Autoattack replacers are shit like Cadence, Savagery, and Fire Strike. They function as empowered autoattacks but with a small energy cost, and are affected by all passives that modify autoattacks (such as feral hunger)
A tie between bleed based Trickster and poison Witch Hunter for me so far.
Pyromancer was pretty fun too, but i didn't get my build quite right the last time i tried it.
Ok, gotcha. So my options are either go Primal Strike with the Transmuter or go Savagery to build up stacks for more damage and then use Primal Strike.
Now I need to figure out what to do about Physical or Lightning resistant monsters and I'm good to go with my Shaman.
You don't really need both. Just tie a tsunami to your savagery and you'll get all the AOE you need, later wind devils also provide good AOE and reduce enemy resistance to elemental attacks. Wind devils are a good choice for a bruiser focused shaman since they scale with your damage instead of separate pet bonus stat, like most other pets. Primal strike with the transmuter is a strange choice, since it doesn't trigger any of the autoattack passives and those are pretty useful. I guess you could use it if you go for an ability or pet focused build.

Okay, so I'm almost at a boss that ALWAYS gives me shit. The Herald of Flame.
How does he work? Is he weaker to physical than magic? His resistances are insane.
I suspect I might be able to hold up better this time as my character is a beast of a tank and has crazy regen abilities, but just plinking away for like 100 damage a hit on a boss is frustrating as hell.
Suggests your build is a bit glassy. I find that with most of my builds though.
But places like that get easier the higher your level and the better the equipment you have. Say you go back there later on, they're still higher than you but you have blues and greens instead of yellows and more add ons and better skills, and the place is much easier.
I'm new to this kind of game and I need a little help.
In the Savagery skill, it says it gives me +% lightning damage. Is does it mean I get that bonus on every flat lightning damage source that comes from my weapon, including the flat lightning damage on the skill itself? And in the skill Flame Touched, does the +% fire and lightning bonuses apply to every fire and lightning damage source I have? If yes, how do I differentiate global bonuses from weapon ones?
It is global, but it's active only when using Savagery. You get the % bonus as long as you hit people with Savagery, you lose it if you deal damage through other skills/basic attack.
Well, yea, NB is pretty ass until you can get some lifesteal to supplement your glass cannon build. Just be happy you have the option of the best heal in the game that also happens to be a big dps increase.
Try turning it into a blademaster if you want some survivability.

Yeah. Veteran is "Normal" difficulty. selecting "Normal" is actually Casual or Easy, but they didn't want to make people feel bad. There's no Veteran option for the other difficulties.

Are they ever going to fix the pathing problems of Shadow Strike and Blitz? This shit still annoys me to no end. If you'd at least just attack the enemy closest to your target after being stuck for a second, but instead you have to watch your character run in place while the other enemies hit you or the attack fails.

its all client side so its going to be like original diablo. Now, back in the day i was part of the DSF legit community and we played togeather with out cheatery, that sort of setup would work if someone wanted to make a steam group or something so we could all chat and organize games i guess, but its not going to be like how d2 was or anything where you can just join online play.

Any demolitionist here? How does the Big One work work? Does it launch a bigger missile at the end of Mortar Trap or at the beginning?
Is health regen useful at all? I have the option to go Tenacity of the Bear and Mogdrogen's Pact, but HRegen doesn't seem to do anything to help you. Is wendigo totem better for a melee character?
HRegen is more of a nice little bonus. I find that enemies do too much damage for it to be really useful. Wendigo totem can help heal you up though if you drop it in a large group, and also if you get the upgrade I think it gives a chance for your attacks to give you back HP too.

So Vindictive Flames is useless? I'm having a lot of trouble seeing it's effects on my character, since all numbers in it are crap. Health regen seemed high enough to drop points into it, but enemies are just spiking me.

If you have Blood of Ch'thon there's a smith at Gates of Necropolis that can convert them to brain matter
I think all of the big ones are broken (end tier ones, llike abomination, leviathan, tree of life, etc.). But you can at least start to plan out a general direction.
It's better than grimcalc for build planning too. I don't know whether grimcalc has been updated yet, and in this one its simpler to switch classes and shit.

I really thought they'd use the type of online that Diablo 2 had, I mean why the fuck wouldn't they? The game would have been so much better. But instead it's just a single player game. There's the option of multiplayer and trading which is nice but the fact that they don't even try to stop or even discourage people from cheating pretty much ruins that. People can just use basic cheat engine tables to get whatever they want.
Hopefully this will all change in the future, its a nice little game but I dont see the point of offline loot hunting ARPGs.
Should I even be attempting this? I'm just starting to try out veteran and it's a lot harder than I thought it would be, I have to chug potions non-stop and I didn't think it was possible to run out of constitution until now.

Guys I don't understand this one, the description says it purges buffs from enemies and removes maluses from you, but the effects doesn't say any of that, which one is it?

Doesn't it scale with my level? So even if I'm 25 it'd be level 30. The biggest problem I'm having is I miss/fumble 75% of my attacks on the bosses, despite having almost as much cunning as physique.
How does Iskandra's Elemental Exchange works exactly? Does it only works with weapons or can spells like Panetti's Replicating Missile benefit from the bonus elemental damage and energy leech? I am bit new to the game and google doesn't help.

Everything that doesn't run pets,solider skills/shield or Stormcaller are glas cannons. Or you stack every point in Physics. At least when you play Veteran in the beginning. In a 2 player game its more easy as a glas cannon. I think they need to balance that shit a little more.

Just look at your main skill dmg on th 2cd character page and look if the dmg rises or falls. then you think about the amount how much it falls or rises and then you think if the second attributes on the gear is worth the rise or fall.
Well i use the mortar in big fights and on bosses but i cant spawn it at the Endboss for what ever reason. Well the text state the mortar fires at the ende but it really doesn't, its more like the 3rd or 4th shot. And its fucking awnsome. I just keep a point in there for the flashy atom explosion!
You know, it's kind of ironic that a lot of GD fans hate on PoE for being a game where you focus on a single skill for your character, whereas GD is a game where you focus on a default attack. They'll tell you it's sooooo different though...

I was excited for a two handed rifle build with a hellhound pet. But marauders belt killed all my intentions and now im a Pistolero with does 10k dps on lvl 60 -_-.
Rifles and cross bows are so underwhelming. I hope the legendary rifles are better.

Would be cool if duration % apply to that live time. All the battlefield would be spooky after a enemy group.
The game gives you freedom in distributing your skill points around two skill trees and that means that you are better off spending them on few powerful skills than spreading them around many weak skills. I'm a level 44 shaman and I have 2 active skills, not counting the autoattack replacer - lightning totem and wind devils. 2 more of my skills are semi-passive auras. And I'm kinda thinking about culling one of them to put more points into defensive passives. Items do give you skills sometimes, as does devotion tree, but those are mostly passive.
Some of the spells are pretty spectacular, yes.

shield for max tank.
You can take Templars faith an epic shield for example and maybe fiddle a little bit with the build and go for lighting dmg instead.
also i took cadence first because you can convert it to 100% elemental dmg but i saw that lad arc got a taunt and for coop the taunt is more useful. But dmg wise i would choose cadence and convert all to elemental.

In the occultist tree i maxed out whitchfire and put one point in blood of dreeg.
I had lots of fun with my first Phantasmal Blades character, until I realized bleeds dont stack in this game... which kind of threw my bleed-focused idea in the trashcan.
Then there was the conjurer with 2x badass pets who just made the game too easy.
Then I thought about playing a sword/board character, but I came to hate Cadence rather quickly.
Then I decided to try my hands at a dot-type character again, occultist focusing on acid and bleed damage this time around, but Dreeg's Evil Eye is too clunky to use and hits everything it shouldn't.
Then I attempted a max offense blademaster, but once again my choice was limited between default attacks and Cadence, and a bunch of support.
Finally, I made a sorcerer for some shooty action, but it has the same problems as Dreeg's... they ought to rework projectiles somewhat.

I've played PoE so I know how much bullshit is in your post because PoE is also full of fucking brown, has awful music, and its stat points consist SOLELY of autoattack modifiers and % enhancements. Your fucking gripe about skills is that you didn't play until you were level 10 (about an hour of game time if you don't breathe solely through your mouth) where you suddenly discover you can multi class. You also apparently didn't use the fucking addons that dropped because they function similarly to PoE's ability crystals, only they offer benefits as well as abilities, and the abilities don't level, which alss encourages you to upgrade items when you need to. These abilities also scale off of any +% enhancements you have.
Gee I can sure remember any fucking PoE bosses from the fucking hundred hours I put into that piece of shit.
So since the classes in Grim Dawn are all boring and generic, you're going to go play the game where the classes are literally only attribute differences and every character can access the same active skills?

It was a boss fight on one of the first levels (if not the 1st) of the game. If I recall correctly, which I probably don't cause this was 20 years ago, it was some post-apocalyptic futuristic thing, the bossfight was some skeleton dude on top of a bone pile throwing shit at you while the screen flooded with some green acid. I never figured out how to get past that fucking level cause I was young and I couldn't speak english yet, all I had learned at school was shit like "hi, my name is anon".

Every time i've been to Burrwitch riftgate since the last build i've only gotten a single champion, on veteran.
Making a character with a playstyle you enjoy. Progressing, exploring the world (and there's quiet a lot of hidden little things in this game), reading the lore bits that are amazing.
Saboteur is probably best played as a CC and/or retaliation+damage reflect build since you'd be all over the place in terms of the elements in the main skills. It's gonna suck until you get lots of damage reflect items and "when hit" procs.

You will want to be surrounded by mobs (Shadow Strike) for retaliation and DR (for ranged enemies), then use life leech retaliation (from gear), PB and BB to heal up. If you're worried then bump up physique some more after level 50

I kind of assumed Haunted Steel would be the best to socket this sword with and prematurely used it, but what else would work? Would any other socketables increase its dps significantly?
Pistols are pretty lame. Rifles are pretty lame. Crossbows are pointless.
No idea why GD added these and neglected them since the >dawn of time. There's no fucking passive or devotion things dedicated for them (IIRC) and there's next to no incentive or reason to use them. Especially since caster is generally better and easier to use (in terms of gear at least, not so weapon dependent) and melee stomps everything anyway.
I love rifles and crossbows in general, but I've never cared to used them seriously in GD. So disappointing.

What stops cultists or whatever doing this to trick people into enterting rifts just to slaughter them or whatever?
Because as a Taken the player is unique in that he can open rift gates wherever the fuck he pleases, so even if the cultists who are covered in blood and surrounded by chaos energy convinced someone that they're friendly, they can't open a rift to lure them into.
If you read the prompts on the screen instead of just skipping them, then you'd read that the player is unique in that he was possessed by an Aetherial but the Aetherial fled his body when he was about to be hanged. That's why you can turn rift gates over to your side and teleport through them.
My current build so far. Playing a right-click to kill build with Solael + Firestrike. Soon as I finish the skill trees for those, I'm not sure what else I will build. Any idea?
I usually leave it off for the first 5 or so levels since you start with garbage and it's quicker to level through quest completion. After I have some points invested in stuff and have cleared the very beginning I turn it on.

Also consider dual wield guns because more dps and dmg overall so you can save 4 points on the dual wield skills and put more in curse of frailty. You need a fuck ton physic to wear the nice fire dmg armor. Also go full on fire dmg.

I mean why would a sorcerers spell deal physical dmg based off the weapon? Makes no sense and adds an extra layer of difficulty when trying to find a caster oriented weapon with a specific dmg type
There are items and relics that allow for dual wield.
Ulziuns chosen only affect the canister bomb.
You skilled Consecrated blade that skill only affects two handed range weapons.
I would not recommend going for a melee build with the pyromancer because you dont get much physic out of your skill tree and not many heal and def skillzs..

Some epics like Marauder set. I gave that set away to a friend because they life firearms in this game but doesn't use 'em.
Its up to you but flash freeze gets a bigger radius with each point so maybe its good to invest some more points for bigger CC. Canister bomb is also great CC when you skill the three points in Concussive bomb.
Mirror on the other hand dont get much for each point just more dmg reflect and thats not what you going to do with it.
What is Ulzin's good for? Why no Blast Shield? Why no Mortar? And how come Stun Jacks are apparently shit but Concussive Bomb is great?

Ulzin greatly buffs your canister bomb. You just throw it into a group and everything is dead from the blasts and burn dmg.
the Blast shield procs when you get hit. Best thing is to dont get hit. also i dont know which enemy deals pierce/fire dmg to proc the shield so i dont like the idea for a shield dedicated just for two dmg types.
The morta is fun but the shells are to slow to hit moving targets. I just deskilled it today.
Stun jacks arent shit but you want to shoot fire and dont throw low lightning dmg stuns around. Also the area of effect is small of the stun jacks, the cannisterbomb stuns with every fragment.
Mortar seems good for 1 point though, especially for large fights/bosses. Drop it and forget it. And these trees are for dual-pistols right? What gives dual-pistol outside of Marauder set?
Yeah i used it for just that but even some of the bosses move from time to time, the points are better spent in the bomb or the fire strike.The gunslinger relic at the Devils crossing faction store. The Marauder transcendent relic.
I think there are gauntlets, belts and chest pieces which give dual wield.
It gives more hp reg and def skill also when you buff your fire dmg% all low life critters die when they manage to hit you and the stun is also nice.
Warth doesn't seem to be a very useful skill.
Do poison clouds from enemy stack? Had a bit of a large fight and there were a handful of enemies that drop poison clouds on death, they were all on top of each other and died at the same time. I nearly got instantly killed from running through the cloud (6k life and positive resistance) on Elite.
I try the same mobs and run through 1 cloud and it does nowhere near as much.
well player dot should not stack according to wiki and the forums. but i also have made teh same experience that the dot of bleeding and acid does stack when applied by enemies. Maybe they dont stack if applied by one source but they stack when they come from multiple sources.
I reckon so too. Different sources = it will stack. I wonder if (it should) this is how it works for players too. Say two players attack 1 target with the same type of DoT and/or skill.
I hope they add more supportive oriented masteries in future expansions. I miss playing as a Ritualist with friends in titan quest.

Theres no set value yet. The RNG in Grim Dawn is more random than other ARPGs and the multiplayer base isnt large enough yet to have set Iron prices of items atm. so theres no bars on what is worth, For example I wanted the Rampage relic BP, so I gladly traded one of my legendaries for it, no regrets.

So my character; Jackal The Rat, is going to be a Nightblade dual wield (original the character) and will be focused on fast attack speed with dual daggers. The question is, I need to pick a focus for an element or two. I was thinking Cold since it seems like the smart idea considering the innate cold stuff from dual wield, but I have no clue.
I hopped in @ 60 on my Conjurer that has good gear (not BiS or amazing, just solid) it's more-or-less same difficulty as Veteran. Do note you lose resistances when entering Elite (like PoE's difficulties)
you can get an auto-attack replacing skill to go with your dual wield in soldier/demolitionist/shaman that just make you poop out damage
but if you want elemental synergy, nightblade is THE cold class but idk what OTHER classes synergize with cold, maybe arcanist's elemental damage bonuses affect cold?
im not sure how "elemental damage" works in terms of modifying damage
you can go occult and get really good physical/acid/poison synergies to go with your dual wield auto attack tree as well as damage returned as life modifiers and crowd control and resistance debuffs to physical/acid/poison etc, and get bonus vit/chaos/whatever damage modifiers etc.
this guy is right though with a level cap of 85 you can just get too much power from additional stats and class synergy for a pure class to be worth it, since each class kind of has differing paths of progression that don't synergize in-class as well as a multiclass would

Personally i'd be tempted to take out the points from that and go Doom Bolt/Possession. Maybe some points in Devouring Swarm for the -% Vitality Resist.
This is a bit of a specific question but will we be able to mod character animations? I really want to make a few animation mods, especially replacing the animations of the firearms but all I've seen mentioned is making levels.
you can block most everything only a few AOE attacks seem to be unblockable
I'm not entirely sure this is a theory-crafted build so far, presumably it should be useful against bosses that may break through standard HP generation from all that life on hit but idk. Maybe it's not a big deal and I'll end up doing what you say, I'd probably lean towards devouring swarm as I've literally no experience at all using doom bolt or possession, this is my first occultist

oh and I have a huge boner for retaliation builds and blood of dreeg + thorns from the briarthorn's buff, notice I let briarthorn have least HP possible just summon him 18 second cooldown for his 24 second duration party buff+retaliation buff which has an 18 second cooldown, which should leave me with plenty of potential for a retaliation build but I'm a complete scrub at itemization in this game so I might actually not do it at all since I might end up crippling my damage by getting retaliation items idk
I am leveling a commando, should I first max out all damage abilities in demo before touching soldier? Bit afraid that investing too much in soldier in the beginning will make things painfully slow.

depends on what specifically you're trying to do you can build commando to do a lot of different things, firestrike or cadence? sword+board, dual pistols or 2hand melee/ranged? etc. etc.
Left click is always Move by default but also Attack, if you need to run through large packs of mobs, you need to bind the "Move" key at the very bottom of the keybind tab.
It's critical especially when playing ranged builds as the character will stop to fire every time you mouse over an enemy if you're not using another key to move. Mine is bound to E
go down demo for damage for now you'll be doing soldier mostly for survival/crowd control since your damage will come from firestrike, which is not a bad thing. make sure you get flame-touched+temper to bolster firestrike, but you'll be lacking physique for the best shields available to you until you go down soldier for physique and shield training, which won't really be a problem imo starting out cuz you'll be low levelish and will level up fast anyways if you get your damage first

vindicative flame would be my favorite skill in the game if it scalled with +to retaliation damage modifiers, wait maybe they fixed it does anyone know?
because flame touched+temper synergizing with vindicative flame+ulzuan's wrath would be a dope combination
Vindictive Flame (fully upgraded with Ulzuin's Wrath) and Maiven's Sphere make you an impenetrable fucking firewall when you stack +fire/burn/lightning/elemental damage through gear and passives.
Only have trouble with heavy hitting giants and bosses at times since they hit more than the damage absorbed. Otherwise, everything else tickles. Having fun being the human equivalent of a giant bug zapper.

But I find it very strange that despite obviously going for a lightning build, something with so much more lightning damage and a great physical to lightning conversion is resulting in such a huge drop. Whats your Phys + total? Whats your lightning + total?
Click CTRL while comparing and it will take off add on effects. Not sure if it will still count augments though.

solael's witchfire improves player damage
unless there's some hidden "lol nope!" then the words would indicate that it does work.
Just a heads up if your for some reason find yourself as a nightblade without a default attack replacement: The mistborn talisman grants you an attack replacer similar to savagery, except it works for dual wielding as well.
solael's witchfire with consecrated blade improves sigil of consumption which doesn't even have a "scales with player damage" indicator so I mean all roads lead to rome here it has to work, but I haven't gotten to the totems yet so maybe there's some dumb thing that makes it not work that you have no way to understand outside of "lol nope!"

New to game and retard when it comes to aRPG builds. Suggest me a class to go with my Demolitionist. I already have some Fire Strike and Flashbang unlocked. 2 offensive points in Crossroads.
