No matter which race you pick, your story won't differ in any way, the only thing you will see is that people might sometimes react to you slightly differently, and you might have a few dialogue choices that you can use.
But other than that, it makes no difference at all. I wish you could have more interaction with your race.

It's so they can't tell anyone about the ritual, there are people who know the secret to the joining who aren't grey wardens, but I imagine they were told by necessity and were never actually grey warden candidates.

Someone who backs out at the last second because "holy shit this ritual can kill people!!" likely have a high probability of telling someone else, even if its just loved ones, they really just can't take the risk.

If you want to play light side - go with soldier/guardian, two weapons/flurry build and focus on your str points and lightsaber feats. A major drawback is not having persuade as your class skill until you leave the prologue area (which means it takes 2 points to increase a skill), but you can withhold leveling your skills until Dantooine.
If you want to play dark side - play a scoundrel/consular and use your force powers. Gets very OP in late game. I wouldn't recommend picking a female in that case because dark side female ending is missing, but it is restored by http://www.nexusmods.com/kotor/mods/54. You can kill Carth if you're a dark side female, which is a huge plus best appreciated if you play light side first.
Just google guides for leveling both of these, there are a lot of them on the internet. Scout and Sentinel are considered to be pretty shit in 1, but they get better in 2

Ranged weapons generally suck unless you use stealth, but using it can get pretty tedious. Mission is optimal for that.
Generally, Kotor doesn't have that many skill checks compared to Kotor 2 - persuade is obviously the most important skill, but repair has some checks as well so it's worth putting points in if it's your class skill.
As for companions, Jolee is probably the best caster in the game and also a pretty good character. He's found in Kashyyyk. Tatooine has HK if you decide to go dark side. He's pretty hilarious but needs to be repaired to be useful. The rest just depends on your preferences, I like using Canderous and HK on my dark side runs and Bastila/Mission and Jolee or Juhani on light side.

Optimal planet order is Tattooine or Kashyyk - Manaan - Korriban.
Make sure you speak with everyone in between planets and exhaust every dialog option

During my fight against the Frostback my party members kept freezing up all the time and I needed to press jump so they could move. The fight was fucking terryfying.

Hey /dag/ + /bwg/, looking for input from longtime fans.

tl;dr KOTOR, ME2, or DA:I?

I've been a Bioware fan for a while, and I've played many of their games, but for various reasons I've stopped halfway through some of the series. I got about halfway through KOTOR, partially into ME2, and only into the very beginning of DA:I.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite Bioware game, but I feel like the later games don't capture the same magic; I barely beat DA2. KOTOR seems a little dated to get into, and ME2 I know is supposed to be good, but of all the series it's probably my least favorite.

I guess my question is, which of these games do you think is most worth "getting into?"

ME2 is great all around.
DAI is a bit mixed. I like the main quests and companions, but that's about it. Exploration is mostly fucked, 90% of sidequests are fetch nonsense, combat swings wildly between terrible and alright, and Inquisitor's VAs are crappy compared to based Jo Wyatt.
KOTOR is unremarkable in every way.

I'd say ME2 desu.

Kotor is probably the shortest of those and also the most plot dense, it wraps up everything in one game and has fun sidequests. There's a sequel too if you get hooked on it but it's quite unfinished and leads nowhere thanks to TOR. As for being dated, I only played it for the first time last year and the gameplay and graphics were a bit jarring at first but you get used to it.
ME2 is quite different from ME1 in that it puts a lot more focus on the whole waifu simulator aspect. Depends on what you liked and disliked about the first game I guess. The characters are pretty good in general
DAI is the worst of those in my opinion, it looks like a well made game on the surface but it's actually some sort of unholy mix of boring, casualized MMO gameplay and mind numblingly bad "cinematic experience".
