Fucking assholes not dropping fucking corpses
What is this shit
you can always go into the edit files and add the DROP_CORPSE flag to any monster you please.
Of course it doesn't *guarantee* a drop but it makes it possiburu. Also not sure how balanced the corpses would be or anything, since I'm guessing there isn't code specifically for them, but I don't think it will cause a crashbug. Probably.
A lot of things don't drop corpses, like undead, demons (no cyberdemon dream for me), etc.
But I thought the Olympians did, since they're P's.
Ah well, maybe I'm having shit luck or something. In any case there isn't anyone else to switch to, cause I'm commiting unique genocide at this point. Soon there will be none left.
I *think* that's all I got from them, but then again something might've been left behind if I had to bail or something.
>tfw got killed by panlord while ascending 15 runes
on the bright side, I've finally got 15 runes, all previous attempts resulted in dieing before this moment
Don't you give up anon, you will surely accomplish your goal.
I'd probably add more to the this now that I've thought about it for more than 2 minutes. This was a fun thought experiment.
>Stat loss restores on exp AND slowly over time. No panscumming if your stats got fucked in tomb!
>Transient muts too
>Corrosion decreases a point every few turns rather than in clumps.
>Remove felid extra lives. Give them damage reduction on attacks that would deal more than 50% of their maximum HP or something. Maybe just give them better HP instead.
>Also they can leap again because that was fun, how is multiple lives fun compared to jumping fuck you chris only you would find dying more than once fun
>Less sword unrandarts, more everything else unrandarts
>Rebalance some weapons so that not everyone goes into the lategame with dtrident/eveningstar/doublesword or 3sword/gmace/bardiche
>make bucklers require more exp, add more shields so you don't have 3 fucking choices
>add different tiers of helms, gloves and boots with encumbrance penalties to go with the enchantment thing
>heavier helmets, gauntlets and boots have different egos than light ones
>To go in line with the glow thing, mummies have no glow cost from spells because they
cast spells via gestures rather than speaking them aloud so they don't spill raw magic into the air
>Corona is a buff/debuff that makes a temporary TSO halo on target, making everything easier to hit and revealing invis dudes.
>darkness makes a powerful stealth boosting umbra on you instead of reducing LoS. Reducing LoS is powerful, but it feels really metagamey and isn't very fun.
>unique monster: the walking pestilence
>a pile of bugs disguised as a man in a robe and hood
>special ability "swarm"
>like haunt but with mid level bugs
>hitting it spawns high level bugs around it like TRJ
>can cause fear
>background: wizard who liked bugs turned into bugs
>someone tells me they like roguelikes
>i get hyped to finally meet someone who likes roguelikes in real life and have a conversation
>oh shit really? i've been playing pcb recently its a *band variant blah blah
>go on a little excited monologue for a few seconds
>'so what do you play?'
>well i've been playing rogue legacy
this is what i wanted to prevent all along
god fucking damn it
I'd have to see it to believe it honestly. 26 skill for min delay on a 14 base damage, 2H weapon is so fucking awful that I have a hard time believing that reach cleave would be too good. At this point, I'm a little surprised they haven't removed scythes yet.
2 brands that don't increase damage on an absolute SHIT base weapon. You turn into a whirlwind of death, but the kind of situations where that would be good are inherently bad. I'm curious to see how it'd really turn out honestly.
Poschengbad is the new hotness. We had a brief but intense love affair with Infra arcana. People play ADOM sometimes, and every now and again we'll have some demon discussion. Someone posted MaiDen snow even and that was fun for a time.
I don't think cdda died out, there's still a lot of knowledge held by posters, but they're either waiting for the itch to play it to reform after playing it into the ground, or answering questions with advices
Well, better than when everyone was playing nothing but Elona, at least. What happened to CDDA? Did that moron Granade finally quit?
I have, all 30 posts of it + the old thread, which was Poscheng/crawl/strangely enough DoD, which would've caused the usual thread downies to smash their modems with hammers a year or two ago. That still doesn't tell me what's gone on with roguelikes since then.
Oh and you missed the ABSOLUTE PINNACLE OF ENTERTAINMENT AND BROTHERHOOD that was the mumo challenge. Truly I pity you, for those were some serious fun times.
I was around for the mumo challenge, so either I came back for a bit, or it was done even further back. My roommate and I both did it, and I had never seen him tard rage so hard.
An IVAN update? Jesus christ, what's it been, a decade?
Dicksman started doing streams of it that were really fun and it ended up getting really popular. Many people in the thread managed to grab runes. Implojin and a mystery man even won it!
I didn't manage to grab runes, as I had quit DCSS for quite some time only returning for the challenge to a bunch of new crap, but I got a lot farther than my roommate, who would die to cockroaches and stop talking for the rest of the night.
Speaking of thread people, I really miss Bastard. Even when he got a bit less shit at games, the RNG would facefuck him harder than anyone else.
>the RNG would facefuck him harder than anyone else.
>he had a tendency to get into weird situations
That's why he was always my favorite namefag.
He only seemed to post when things had gone hilariously wrong like all of his equipment disintegrating in ADOM.
Just hitting things with my fifty pound butt.
Spells aren't as good as pendragon's, and I'll miss my boot slot and vampiric weapon, but I can't complain about Baphomet's damage.
Pick up a key, watch the alter descend into the ground as the trap sets the room on fire.
>I don't believe this shit.
I swear this game makes me think of Dirk the Daring shenanigans in deaths.
All of my friends play roguelites, thankfully none of them call them roguelikes because they've seen my play roguelikes. One of them plays actual roguelikes occasionally but he's terrible. At least he plays DCSS console instead of tiles.
eh I was just kidding in any case.
I actually had a spoilertagged "jk, please forgive" but it was going to mess up the succinct flow of the post so with some trepidation I removed it and hoped not to give actual offense
I'm trying to figure out a western gunslinger character in DCSS. A ranger with a hand crossbow for sure, leather armor only, high dodging, but what race would be good?
I'm partial to mummies.
I just added cleaving to scythes out of pure boredom. Its meh.
The way cleaving works is simple, it gets up to seven enemies adjacent to you that aren't your target and deal a % of the normal damage to them. To make it cleave at reach I would have to make a new algorithm to it, like it works for gyre and whatever, however I just can't be arsed.
Jesus christ my sides anon.
He's probably samefagging. If you're attuned to this place like I am, which I am not extremely proud of but hey, it is what it is, you'll recognize there's been an influx of new people lately, one of which is Italian treating this place like it's /b/ by posting tits to grab attentions out his posts when he asks something and unrelated images so we can blame him for everything.
I mean I don't wanna sound like a prude here but we don't really use nigger and faggot casually as insults and post nsfw stuff
I don't want to sound like an elitist even though I probably am because I enjoy the fact we keep this general more roguelike related than non roguelike related and we're generally nice to each other and haven't got tripfags or namefags and the shitposting comes in waves when someone decides to funpost but even then we have whole threads without anything but good old roguelike discussion and when I look in some other faster /vg/ generals it makes me want to come back here. I guess I just like using a general for its intended purpose and I've never seen this one stray from its path. Plus the games are fun as hell and there is always new content so it cannot stagnate and the users all discovered paint some time ago and it's a lot of fun to watch those images.
I'm just saying: If you're new around here please try to be less loud okay? Thank you. I am sure you'll enjoy your stay a lot.
Now for the roguelike part of my post, apparently in wiznode I CAN slime one eyed Sam but it's a tricky thing. Basically I get a one in four chance to slime him and I have speed 6, which is really bad. Since he's wearing speed boots and even if I haste myself I only get speed 8, which is one tier below regular speed so he could technically attack me before I slime him. I cannot be beheaded when I'm in slimeform, so that's something but I ended up having to quaff two potions of extra healing just to check if he was getting slimed, so I think I can do that and then quaff polymorph into a human again and smash a bottle in his face while I wear reflection so Inwon't die in case he zaps finger of death.
His post was literally about roguelikes and nothing else, you nigger-loving kike.
This. Just take it easy. That said to the two people I quoted, it IS fucking 4chan. So let's also take it easy there and not fucking make the mistake of jumping around and giving them tons of attention so they wanna stick around shitposting.
Reminder to take it easy. What are you fine folks playing tonight?
I must not bait.
Bait is the thread killer.
Bait is the little death that brings total thread obliteration.
I will face my need to reply. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when the bait has gone past I will turn on my filters to see its path.
Where the bait has gone there will be no replies.
Only content will remain.
Aw shucks it's nothing
I found out nethack has crysknives, even though they're pretty bad compared to, say, silver sabres but might be good for an early tourist since they get to expert in dagger. Then again a unicorn horn is even better so they're kinda shit.
I've been rereading my old fantasy books from when I was younger, so I'm just a little embarrassed. Currently I'm working through the Valdemar books in (in-universe, not printing) chronological order. Right now I'm on Storm Rising.
I must not use my dune related trip
I will not put it on, not even to make a snarky comment
What the fuck Nethack, Dunehack when
I've won with a Deep Elf using a Large Shield before
But I guess at that point I had literally run out of skills to train, so I dunno
Wander the desert, kill invaders, finish the game by killing some sardaukar captain or something, desperately flail to stay alive while training up in the southern hemisphere
I'm not too concerned with dumping more XP into offense at the moment.
definitionally no, there is no true fps roguelike
There are some things with roguelike elements that also have some fps elements. Eldritch is a minecraftlike first person dungeon exploring game with some roguelike elements. The first person horror games such as Amnesia: Dark Descent have some of the feeling of flavor and low-resources that one gets from roguelikes. The first person cthulhu games may have some of this too but I haven't played them myself. But none of these really plays like a true roguelike.
oh and I forgot to mention the first person turn based dungeon crawlers, again not really roguelikes (there are no real fps roguelikes), but it may scratch that itch for you, assuming you're asking in good faith and not just to stir controversy.
>bolt of fire and IOoD
Yeah that's all you need, you won't need to train any more spell skills for the rest of the game unless you want to get some utility spells (get haste and dflct/rplmissiles), get some dodging/armour/shield/long blades skill
Go find an MDA or WDA, and that's your ascension kit
That's just a difficult game, not a roguelike. A roguelike is a turn-based RPG with movement occurring on a grid of tiles that is also permadeath and has procedurally generated elements.
I originally started training hexes because I never found repel missiles. Confuse has amazing utility when you have mana out the ass (and the spellpower to not have it miss all the time.) Cause Fear is a great panic button too. I know hexes are absolutely useless in extended though, so I'm glad I got archmagi to make them powerful without too much xp investment.
Yeah, I've never won with a deep elf that didn't worship Sif Muna, so I wouldn't know what not having spells is like.
firestorm is fucking useless if you're not zigrunning, bolt of fire/IOoD is almost always a better use of your time
Confuse works on tormentors and hellions. But you'll probably just kill them.
FS is alright to get in postend if you have huge Int and enhancers. You get tons of XP in postend anyways.
Firestorm is a free ride through extended. It isn't worth the exp investment before you have 3 or 4 runes however. Much easier to clear everything with bolt and OoD and have solid defenses.
No, I mean enhancers. Low-power Firestorm is awful after 3 runes because it will barely scratch rF+++ monsters (which is like half of demons) and will take too long to kill even non-rF high HP targets. High power FS is fine.
It has more resistance piercing, but less range. I actually liked it when I used it.
Really strong, but every summoning monster has a chance of casting Abjuration half of the time they roll for their summoning spell, and monster Abjuration is really strong for some reason
Overpowered bullshit that deserved to be removed.
I actually used it quite a bit, it was my kill spell for a few ascensions and plenty of sprint. It was a nonsense spell that shouldn't have made it through trunk. Killing unique panlords from outside of LoS shouldn't be possible. It might have been fine if monsters could have pushed passed it. As it was before it was removed, it was too strong. Once must consider that by investing translocations, you get some of the most powerful spells in the game in the form of blink and cblink as well as a good number of buffs. Why should you get the most powerful level 9 spell in addition to the best panic button and powerful buffs? I feel it really pushed mages into a situation where you either found singularity and invested translocations heavily or you actually played crawl and picked up spells based on your needs.
So, I haven't looked at Dungeon Crawl in awhile and my girlfriend told me they were dumbing it down in various ways. Can I hear someone else's opinion about where the devs are heading with it?
FUCKING DOUBLE KILLER BEES IN AN OPEN ROOM FUCK NO FAIR RNG
I meant to type "why did I get greedy and not burn more consumables to handle them safely? Dying loses ALL the consumables."
The keys are right next to one another.
fcrawl, by the way
They've been actively trying to make the game more difficult with lots of new monsters, but they also removed rMut, clarity and some other stuff for new powerful amulets. It has rubbed people the wrong way, but a lot of us resort to hyperbole and cry about the big bad removal wolf. What did she say in particular?
You get a shitload of potions from clearing lair anyway. Do you really have that bad of a hoarding problem that you can't even expend a 2 to avoid certain death?
Have you even played fcrawl?
well yes and no. It was much worse when I first started. In this case, they were the last two monsters on the floor, I killed 1, was kindof low, bumped for 2 rounds with the last one, got it really low, and decided to risk it, since if I succeeded I'd clear the floor and heal to full.
So it's slightly slightly less stupid decisionmaking than my post makes it seem, but still, it was Not Smart.
Her complaints were along the lines of apparently how:
-every patch now is working on "pruning" things in the Blizzard sense of reducing them to nothing
-ranged was on the chopping block because they want it to be a "sometimes" option only
-Nemelex decks are completely dead
-removing amulets en masse
I know nothing about any of this because I haven't played Dungeon Crawl in quite some time, so I wanted to get /rlg/'s second opinion.
Most of us would agree with her on some of those points. They've been tweaking, removing and adding new things in a lot of areas, so the pruning thing is up for debate. But Yugi (while still very strong) will never be what he was, the amulet thing was really brazen and they really are considering some nonsense when it comes to ranged. Tell her to try out Pakellas and to learn how to have fun with a game that is permanently in development.
Nemelex wasn't actually nerfed though, they removed wonders. which was rare unless you wonderscummed, which wasn't a very reliable strategy, but war and destruction are still strong and in fact some of the cards in those decks got buffed. THe fact that escape lost CBLink is probably a strong nerf to that deck though, but you still can get Tomb and other neat shit out of it.
Yeah, your post made it sound like you didn't teleport out of this type of situation.
it's kindof like something between brogue and crawl that plays closer to the puzzler side of things than actual DCSS. It's a ground-up superstreamlined rewrite in python, in a single succinct file. There are instructions linked in the OP if you want to give it a whirl.
There are no gods. There are no equipment items. You only gain experience (always a whole level) from stepping on an experience tile or clearing a floor. Clearing a floor heals you to full. Resting does not heal you. There are no traps or hidden doors. There are various types of monsters and enemy attacks, but the player's options come down to exploring, meleebumping, or using one of the 7 types of potions (that do things like teleport you, heal you, damage player and all monsters in los, map the level and all monsters in it, etc). The alchemy potion lets you combine two other potions to result in a new one based on their sum (so potion 2 + potion 3 = potion 5).
It's pretty fun and very streamlined/clear. It also makes me think that regular crawl should go content heavy, and let fcrawl be the "clean design" version of the game instead of having, as one anon put it, mixed pulls between a game that started originally like nethack but now has devs moving towards cleanliness.
Good two minute post-with-image timers.
fcrawl swamp is like that one hangedman vault with all the smoke demons behind the bars, except they deal a bunch more damage and occupy the whole level.
Not as of yet.
The game doesn't have saves at this point, so that would probably be a little wierd, but I know the guy has considered getting it on roguenex.us.
It's really simple to set up though and quite a lot of fun.
>he hasn't 15-runed a gargoyle so malmutated to shit that he ascends with 70 max HP
Remember, less HP means less damage from torment.
YOU'VE KILLED THE BIRDS ON THE FEEDERS FOR THE LAST TIME SRUFFLES!
so I learned the starting a quick fire in the basement for light in experimental z-levels for DDA actually spreads across z-levels
not that I don't mind this works but
don't you talk that way about chei
yeah, step from time saved me
>Kill a durrgin with a timely combo earlier
>New durrgin shows up later in the dungeon and find out from ha;f my health getting evaporated
>As usual, allies are about to get clocked for the sixth goddamn time thanks to their faggot AI cause I can't tell them to go and sit behind a corned
>Alright, I'll get behind a corner, negate him when he's in range, then quaff life and pound him
Ditto with traps. Trying to hold him in the gas of a caustic trap as he tears you apart is a horrible feeling. At least when there's a lot of chasms you can gamble on trying to find the food as you dive.
I do admit 'cheesing' a rat cave because mutations can arise from radiation, and the rat king gives off safe amounts at short bursts. It was an interesting experimental game I played then (the rat king mut's been here since DDA created though afaik) and been porting my saves to new versions ever since.
so far looking at the .sav year 5 season 3 (winter) There's an option for eternal winter so I can be super comfy at all times
Try rogue that takes treasure hunter at the start. Early on you can stab/calm mind restab, and kick melee to kil la lot of shit. The extra ammo from treasure hunter lets you shoot what you can't or will take too much shock trying to avoid or fight. In them idgame you have a metric fuckton of spikes and you cheese shit with kick then spiking them to the wall. In the late game you can jsut stealth all over with few fucks given. And when you do, you can just empty out your excess guns then chuck em. At the boss fight you have a couple tovs, dynamite, paralysis pots and enough ammo to get the job done as well as a wide selection of recovery and buff pots.
don't bother with the backstab feat, if you needed it to kill it, you probably shouldn't be trying to stab it in the first place and are better off being able to actually hit with a gun, carry more, or calm mind more.
>foreign assault rifle
Is that the generic guns mod? I've never tried it out before but that seems to fit the description.
Jesus christ, how big is your save file? And how do you play that long? I usually get bored after a year or two.
Yeah I slapped on the generic guns mod for the heck of it, it definitely cleans up the gutter that is finding ammo for American-180 or some obscure gun
I only recently started again because Unreal World didn't do it for me despite its fun in the past, wintertime is p comfy, and free time comes hand in hand with experimenting
>how big is your save file
about as big as any other saves 100+ mb, I port my .sav itself (449 kb) here and there
here's some older pics (had a pretty cool artifact I left behind that had see through)
Cleared Spider Nest and got the gossamer rune. Should i clear Shoals or Vaults first?
Hell, should i attempt the Hall of blades? XL 18 is decent, but there's no corridor to fight all those damned blades and sorceres, so i'd prefer to reach XL 20 first.
With those spells I wouldn't go for blade. You'll get swarmed by highly resistant shit and killed from the noise. You should be able to chew through most if not all of shoals then flip flop with vaults
Where the FUCK is the black market
the changelog says it's near medusa's level but I mapped from level 25 (below medusa's level) to level 19.
Can it not spawn?
Thought that too, and i can't chew my way with fists there.
Thanks for the help,i hope Shoals aren't too much of a problem: spiders gave me quite some trouble, but always had an out to surrounding.
holy shit but yred makes swamp fun
But then how'd i come back to the main dungeon without meeting Roka and his berserk orcs?
I'm also stashing literally every single item of the game in my dragon lair located in the Temple, so i have to do many travels both for stashing AND for this reason.
@??lernaean hydra simulacrum
Gretell simulacrum (Z) | Spd: 8 (swim: 60%) | HD: 30 | HP: 72-109 | AC/EV: 0/0 | Dam: 14(cold:30-89) per head | undead, evil, unbreathing | Res: magic(40), cold+++, poison+++, drown, rot+++, neg+++, torm | Vul: fire, holy++ | XP: 937 | Sz: Giant | Int: brainless.
Those are some fucking numbers
They'll break up a little and you can pick off the sorc and some warriors then tele once you';ve cleared a bit. That you're an Eclecticist is a little worrying but between buff pots, magic, and summoning something's gotta give
Where the frick is your food?
QUICK, POST THE MUSIC YOU PLAY WHILE ROGUELIKING.
I personally put a different theme depending on the branches of DCSS.
Fucking piece of shit isn't found with a fucking blessed scroll of magic mapping I fucking hate you and I am going to slime you so hard you asshole
there is, but you cannot anymore
Anything that's complex enough to enjoy when I pay attention, but also good background noise.
Fun, collection-whoring and a little bit of autism that every rougelike player has/needs. I just wanted to play as a dragon and make a huge stash of gold and treasure.
However, i have not found Dragon form spell yet, which sucks. I just want to be a purple, queer Smaug, is that a crime?
I have tons in my lair, but for the purposes of collection and stashing i just take a single stack of food. I have only 1 bread left now, so my diet will now consist of Beef jerky.
You guys have no idea how much joy and tediousness it takes to pick a different kind of fruit and add it to the collection.
Gee dynahack how come your dev lets you have a two handed sword AND a large shield?
I'm probably dead
I didn't know charming monsters in one eyed sam's shop made him angry
>or you actually played crawl and picked up spells based on your needs.
You mean you learn haste and regen, take a token damage school and train weapons fighting and defensive skills much further than your magic once you've learned your level 6 bolt?
>take a token damage school
this is better than a school that does both escape and damage
>train weapons fighting and defensive skills much further than your magic once you've learned your level 6 bolt
that's not true for a lot of char types too
well, there was a 10% chance of that happening before I grabbed another potion of paralysis.
Things to remember: do not try to charm the monsters to lure them near the portal and then hit them to make him angry.
But at least I never used any sokoban shortcuts!
I guess you asked.
af_cold damage is based on HD (hit die, sort of like monster's experience level) and Lerny has huge HD (mostly because Lerny is a melee monster and melee monsters' accuracy scales with HD and by the time you hit Swamp regular hydra accuracy is really bad and even Lerny will miss a lot if you quaff agility and invis)
I wanted to say that there really should be an ending with Lerny simulacrum but 100 HP tops and fire vulnerability would mean the fight would be even more trivial than actual Lerny...
So, I made a noob mistake and greedily jumped on a war axe that I saw on depth 8 when I only had a spear and a whip. It's a enchanted it twice to raise it to a +2 axe. Unfortunately it's an war axe of plenty. Keep or discard?
Yeah, I mean the only thing crazier than a school that does both escape and damage would be a school that does buffs including literal invincibility, op summons, huge damage and gives passive slaying.
>Mak has all the fruit
Seriously though, nice stash. Its been a really long time since I've seen one so organized. Not since that one guy who starved to death on his bread pile anyway.
Haunt isn't OP and Simulacrum isn't a summon.
>huge damage and gives passive slaying
Both of those are one thing and don't work on a lot of enemies (still good).
But you're correct that Necro is best school.
Discard, you can't afford multiple tentacle horrors and shit and double dar priestesses sprials out of control quickly.. In the future, don't enchant without B/U/C testing at the very least.
A lot of necromancy's power falls off in the lategame, with the exception of regen, borg's, Ddoor and necromut. All of them utility spells rather than huge damage and op summons. Haunt is great for a 5 rune and simulcra needs bodies. Passive slaying only works on the living and if you have a pain brand. Again, good for a 5 runer. Apport, blink, passage, phase shift and cblink are all top tier stuff, and singularity broke the game in half. Moreso than any other spell. Not a single enemy could figure out how to avoid getting chain singularity'd to death while you furiously channeled a staff from out of sight.
>necromany falls off except for the four best spells in the game
not him and I agree with what you're saying but the "necromancy is anything but incredibly strong" meme needs to die
You don't even need channel. Dig a killhole (or find a killhole), put a sing there, whoops, monster can't avoid it, monster can't damage it (but will try to), when it disappears pop another one until you feel more experienced. Great spell, amazing addition to Crawl, stupid shithead devs removing muh fun.
And guess what, since necromancy doesn't want me to get a level 9 spell, if I don't get DDoor or Borg's I have a ton of excess exp to dump wherever so I can for example do berserker tier damage with my great mace.
Meanwhile if I do get Borg or DDoor the game is broken in half already.
have you ever used dragon call?
because dragon call is passively summon smite targeted dragons on top of enemies and is literally the old summon dragon ball experience with none of the hassle. stupid op and absolutely brainless
only reason they removed singl instead of changing it in any way like IDK removing the fucking damage component or making monsters able to go through it is because devs are fucking lazy
That was supposed to be the kitchen, i liked it better to keep all the food to one chamber, i used Fedhas chamber to put all kinds of different ammos and shooting items.
Thanks anyway, i like how this run is turning, and it is very satisfying to organize and see your collection growing.
The junk stashing is becoming a real annoyance, but hey, i said EVERY SINGLE ITEM must fall in my clutches.
Also, how many of these little interactions are there? Aizul sleeping on the job when he was supposed to guard treasures is a nice touch.
I don't think anyone ever implied necromancy was weak. He simply made a hyperbolic statement about how necro has HUGE DAMAGE and OP SUMMONS which I thought was silly. Regen, borg's, ddoor and necromut are all incredible spells, but I wouldn't call them the best spells in the game. I'd reserve #1 for cblink easily, and the rest of the spots are pretty debatable as there are a lot of contenders. It all depends on what stage of the game you're in.
You should only be using borg or DDoor in situations where you really fucked up, or in a fucking ziggurat of all things. They're some of the best panic buttons, but I'd still rate cblink over them in terms of sheer power. And in older version of the game, if you invested more translocations after getting cblink, you got an even more powerful spell!
>have you ever used dragon call?
I've used every level 9 spell
wow what an achievement I'm so proud of myself. Dragons literally won't attack a target outside of your LoS and any enemy able of summoning will occasionally completely erase your dragon army in one turn. It's powerful, but it's nowhere near Sing.
Ehhh, Fast status is good but a lot of games have enough pots and wands to get it for all the important fights and flights. Then again, if you're already going for spells it's usually easy to get if you have the book.
Never again. I've lost allies so many times from their tendency to go full retard or find every trap my searches miss.
>The best spells in crawl are melee > haste > regen
This being factually correct is one of the reasons why crawl sucks dick. Why don't they just remove spellcasting from the game, when it's inferior to tabbing, requires more button presses and the spells are boring and have heavy limitations to prevent scummy nobrainer behavior.
This enough to farm some kind of wyrm?
Using arrowkeys instead of shift-dir or repeatedly using autoexplore is bad mmk.
To be fair I don't know why anyone would really care about singularity itself being gone when now there is a level 3 version that does the most important parts while being accessible to a ton more characters. As far as I understand it doesn't have crashing against the environment though, which was super-fun.
Then again they really like to artificially cap the ability of low-ish level spells to be useful, so I can see it having all sorts of checks that gut it for no reason.
Well it's safe to say I never want to fucking go through this again. In the end, 6 !*Healing*, 1 !Life, some !Healing and plenty of ?Genocide and ?Mass Genocide and a bit of luck not being pelted by rockets (2 rockets in a row would straight up kill me).
I spent ALL my money on gambling potions before the fight, like 2.5 million, and only got 1 !*Healing* and 2 !Healing.
Which ended up saving my life in the end, since as you can see, I'm all out of those. I'm sure he dropped all kinds of good items, but fuck that, there were dangerous things hanging about and the level was quite small, unfortunately. Why was it small? Because I had always small levels turned on like a retard. Forgot to turn it off for the serpent, I was hunting for uniques on other levels. Still somehow survived. But it was VERY close.
Chardump for now: http://pastebin.com/Y43dwd35
great reward for the fucking bandit quest
>But he's not wielding it right?
yes he is. Unnethack made a special exclusion for him. And also made him a her.
Anyway, top 25 in dynahack's main server!
Do people even win this game
>This enough to farm some kind of wyrm?
yes. Greater hell wyrms in arena 79.
I'd also like to add that the GHW drop less items than a great bile wyrm, so farming GBW is always a good idea with acid immunity.
Spoiler says great storm wyrms are on level 58, does arena have an adjustment?
No, they just *start* spawning there, but they can spawn in any level lower than that. Just spam monster detection and recall if it's not in your LOS until it is.
Also storm wyrms can't dance. Those two left feet bastards keep breathing wind at you and pushing you away. If you get two or more of them in a row the other basically blinks the first one with his breath and they can go through permawalls. They don't know how to conga at all. Also they hit like trucks even with immunity.
DON'T WORRY THORIN, YOU AREN'T GOING TO HELL ALONE!
ZILTOID, ZILTOID !
sorry i had to do that.
so is PosChengBand the current /rlg/ game ?
Original Gangster. The very first. The one that started the whole meme knight fad. I never ascended her.
Learned knocked out is a thing that I probably didn't remember from back when I read the heavily obscured manual. Probably gonna hold off on trying again until next year. 27 hours and all that jenga for every upgrade in your arbitrarily crampt house is a bit much.
Butt Eel the legendary ass bandit centipede didn't last long but others have carried on in their ancestors name. Someone will stuff the serpents head and put it under his multi-hued boots.
they were from my nightmare android RK. The problem with him was that when I put on items that broke the level count integer for androids ( the gloves were worth two million by themselves, which was about twice more than all my gear combined) my levels went down. Equipping those gloves instead of thanos put me at level 30 and when I actually wielded grond with those, so about six milion dosh, I was level 1.
Basically pants on head retarded, if I ever have the crazy idea of playing another nightmare dude I'll probably play a demigod of zeus or something.
I did 1050 damage on average with my staff of esculapius and five blows. If I put on the gloves I did something like 1600 but that was at level 30. The game refused to accept its defeat.
>if I'm reading the code right they should be able to master it?
never bothered with that since I usually find really good shields with immunities and resistances. Basically you're never going to melee anything ever after depth 90, so why bother?
>Basically you're never going to melee anything ever after depth 90, so why bother?
I get that but you're being too pragmatic about this.
Wouldn't it be cool to dual-wield Stormbringer and Ringil while flinging manastorms all over everybody's ass?
Lods of emone has made you jaded.
>Wouldn't it be cool to dual-wield Stormbringer and Ringil while flinging manastorms all over everybody's ass?
First off stormbringer is incredibly overrated unless you're sexy or you're using it against oberon/serpent. You don't want level 99 uniques awake and looking for you in a level that's not arena. Still haven't found ringil, but I got another one that was incredibly good, some weeb sword that slayed good and had an AFC.
The endgame is not about fun, it's about killing those pieces of shit everyone hates and being anally overprepared and just getting to the end of the game oh god I hate it so much
>Lods of emone has made you jaded.
Those who follow the path of the dosh become the dosh.
Cold and unloving.
Is this enough consumables to get through Oberon and big J? Last thing I remember was getting pissed off at the Norsa and another unique on the same floor along with some asshole who kept going invulnerable.
What's all the sources of permalight?
Demigod of ?
Helm of sunlight
Weapon of meltingx2
Stone fixedart (4) - Wooden torch of demeter
Lucky rolls on randarts
I wish to be as grossly incandescent as the sun and 11(?) perma light is insufficient.
>play time: 77:05
remember that your forms are going to be a waste of mana since oberon and J can and will dispel them the moment you cast them. Speed too, so I'd advise you to get more speed, about 40 in total so oberon won't be able to do doublemove on you. Also get the trump card in your light slot AND become a living trump capable of teleportation ( low chance when using your power, mostly it's just gonna be "you teleport at random" )at will so oberon won't be able to teleport you away.
But yeeah technically you have enough potions. I'd advise you to wyrm conga more until you get more speed.
>How does melee win and do shit past depth 90 then?
they end up grinding for a lot more *healing* than anyone else would and that is boring and stupid and why isn't there a healing potion shop because that shit is retarded.
Also most of those dudes don't win.
basically the bad thing of PCB is that classes that can cast herbal healing are going to spend 40 hours less than any other class grinding for *healing* or just runecheese it and gamble a shitload of those and that is stupid and wrong.
Also the dispel spell is the worst possible spell in PCB. I'd rather play furyband than kill the serpent with any kind of combo again.
I have another 100 or so speed potions in my house. Is this what you meant about being a trump? I think I'll do some wyrm conga for funsies and see if I can't get some better boots. I need to get comfortable with the controls again as well.
yes that's the one.
Honestly don't know what I'd do if I splatted an 80 hour dude so don't start a mass shooting if that happens okay anon
I won't splat her. She is /rlg/ history and will ascend so that she might spend eternity with her doshed out memeknight children. This war princess will fire her intergalactic deathray right into big J's asshole. I just need to re acclimate.
I dunno how you could hit a 77 hour run and all the splats it took to get that good without reaching some degree of inner peace for its inevitable death somewhere in the game be it angband 126, heaven, hell, or just killing yourself cause you've killed everything in the game.
I've learned my inner peace from years of crawlin'. I'm actually not all that great at poscheng. Much of that time was spent figuring out the most effective ways to cheese and which runes did what for that shitty guide. I will begin grinding again posthaste.
All that time spent and I still got some of them wrong too.
What's something fun for a scrub? Chris apparently sees no problem with grinding and views learning how to speedrun as part of PCB but I can't take the earlygame. I've spent like, 300 hours in dungeons 0-40 before I get fukken told like some punk ass bitch.
Could I survive the elven halls?
I'm thinking with all this magic resist I could do it.
I wouldn't if at all possible cause your defenses are mediocre and health is kind of eh in the event of noise blowing you the fuck out.. You could maybe do the first floor and dip the second if you pick up rF+ in your z slot but you wont benefit from it. You don't need ego long blades or ego bucklers.
Older version. Grind deeper and pray for a staff of mana storm with the power, capacity, or regen ego or just flat out a stronger device power to getm orem ilage out of it.
For characters with good aptitudes like Mi, you usually don't need to enter Elf. The risk of getting swarmed by LCS/master archers/blademasters just isn't usually worth the potential gains of maybe a couple shops and the Elf:$ vault.
Could you do Elf with that character? Yeah, probably. Would I? Probably not.
I had a lot of fun with the demigod archers. They're really strong and simple. I only died to Habu because I was dipping into dragon at level 31. I also fought him instead of running immediately too. When in doubt, just go with the rune knight though. There is a reason why everyone found it fun.
No healing. Only curing, *healing*, life and those staves. I'll probably grind a good amount for more loot.
Even a Minotaur can benefir from and elf clear some time around when he's clearing elf. While uncommon, they can get useful rods and randarts. Especially randart jewelry. It can also be your last hope to get rcorr, rmutand other key resists before abandoning doing slime/abyss/extended.
MEant when clearing Zot sorry,.
I didn't say that he couldn't benefit from it, I said that it's usually not worth the risk. There's a difference.
Elf is overly dangerous for the reward it offers on just about any character, and the only reason to ever go there is if your combo is *really* struggling and you know exactly what you're doing and your character needs the boost before tackling lairbranch endvaults.
Eh just post your highscores when you get time. It amounts to learn to gauge your effective strength to handle the power curve of vamp bat pack/ogre, dar blademaster, ogre shaman/wraith, and so on before they pop up. Using malpots, traps, deep water, chasms when possible to save enchantment. Not using staff charges frivolously and limping by with your crappy floor drop armor/weapons to make sure your staff can hold out. On average, by around d:8 you've gotten enough floor drops and vaults to give you a coherent kit and a couple items that had enchantments. If you're having trouble with putting a kit together cause you don't know, you can use the seed catalog to try items out to see how well stuff plays out. If someone reposting the 80k seed catalog you can get a lot of shit like +4 armor/weapons, +3 runics, +5 rings/staves, and the occasional seed with dom/plenty.
>mfw I can just play centaur with a spear and run away + evoke
>yfw hasted+swiftness bardiche stabbing melee fo' days without getting a single scratch
>yfw deflect missiles is up
>yfw the skeleton/zombie/simac halocaust
You guys sure it not worth doing elf?
I just got a +2 boots of rF+. Do I need poison resist on elf:2/3?
I could have rF+++, rC++, rElec, rN+++. But, I would have a crappy war axe that is antimagic.
He's what happens. You tab into a bunch of elves and everything is fine one moment. The next a door opens you're getting engulfed by firebalsl and obliterated by blinkspam arrows and every teleport repeats the cycle until you can't quaff heal wounds fast enough and you die or you escaped after wasting precious consumables for nothing of value. Blade in elf:2 is even worse because they're very fast, durable, hit crazy hard, are quite accurate and then add in their egos on top of that. The once you head to either third you're 1 shout away from getting slammed by spells and arrows as protection and elecrtrocution scimitars carve a new anus into your chest. Do it later when your defenses aren't 20/17.
Yes you do need rpois, those faggot summoners shit out a lot.
Elf is extremely deadly, even more so for melee characters. Casters can do it with planning and a few creative spell uses like freezing cloud etc, but as a minotaur you're going to have to facetank hasted elf blademasters and hordes of DE annihilators pelting you with LCS
also summoners are going to constantly gangbang you the whole way through with demons, you can probably handle it but E:3 kills a lot more people than Z:5
amusing tale of woe :<
I read the earlier posts too I just don't want my post to be a huge line of quotes
Whoo congrats on the win!
>always small levels serpent fight
jeez anon that's a pretty lucky thing to survive
nice randart thorin
rip :< and yeah stunning is awful, a single !CCW will clear it though
I do, but I ain't gonna do it at xL:18 with only 20/17/0 defenses, ~160 hp, on a non-steath run with no spells incl haste/silence, launcher, and likely insufficient evo and golf bag of devices. It's just unecessary risk for little to nothing in elf 1. Elf 2 is more likely to kill him or at least burn a heap of consumables before he can potentially get an exec axe or some decent swap axes out of it. Tackling elf:3 that early as he was would drain the heck out of his consumables for shit he'd have little use for. It's not going anywhere, he can tackle blade after he finishes swamp if he can, dungeon, and dip vaults before hoping for a good weapon to +9.
Monster memory says hell wyrms carry up to 12 good objects, while bile wyrms only up to 7.
Ice wyrms are probably the most efficient, up to 10 items and the lowest hp of the elemental wyrms.
Am I retarded and knocked out was covered in the manual and I just forgot? Near as I could tell up till that knockout it was just increasing my device fail rate.
Freeze/burn destroying items is what I think he means.
>falling for the potentially dangerous spellset meme
After burying enough runs you learn around elves watch yourselves.
fkjashdkshkjfahs rlg kurwa blac i wanted to wish you best but for whateeer err fucking reason I fucking ocudnlrt ourwaaaa and i mean sooo I LOVE YOU EHM askdajkhgaskjdas i odninttn know what tosayu
After burying enough elves there's no reason to watch yourself.
I'm trying to do my first 15 rune, just cleared Tomb and Slime, where should I go now? Or does it really not matter in what order I do things. Besides this weapon I also have a +9 holy eudemon blade.
Abyss is generally easier than the hells. The hells are generally easier to get safe and rest in than pan, although some of the hells have very dangerous floors.
You probably want do to abyss first, assuming that you've already cleared depths and zot.
>Somehow end up with nowilderness birth option despite not choosing it
>Keep getting it and no more choice when making a new char
>Splat 2 trump rogues
>Speed, blessing, mon conf
>Conf doesn't stick, of fucking course it doesn't
>Get torn apart
>Phase door away
>Use my only healing pot, a serious wounds
>About to consider honorabru seppuku rather than be killed
>Well might as well roll the spider trump dice an...
>Mob of cave spiders tears hobbes apart
Did not see that coming at all.
yeah apparently yeeks are the only non-monster race that gets a racial immunity.
Warlocks also get fire immunity at level 50.
monster race balrogs get fire immunity and charge drain resistance at level 40, which is nothing to sneeze at if they weren't a monster race and inherently sucked because they have to grind to get *healing*.
Conclusion: PCB is the only game in which yeeks are strangely overpowered.
>stats aren't that bad
>acid immunity at level 20 means acid will never destroy items or degrade armor (there's a chance even with >75% resistance) and acid will not hurt you, ever
>ridiculously low xp penalty
>wanted to do a super low xp rate run as a gimmick cause pcb is suffering
>Take munchkin snotling tourist to get all them lowest modifiers
>Munchkin gave a bunch of broken shit and high stats which ruined the otherwise cool 50%, 45%, 70% xp rate
Be a hell of a drug to be level 50 by like, camelot.
PCB is way the hell longer than normal Angband right? Because my Angband guys take weeks
to loseand I can't figure out how anyone who has a job and/or other hobbies would ever beat this damn thing.
>Your HP is low and shit.
say that to my face and not online, see what happens.
no but seriously they're not that bad. If you have 100 AC and a decent vampiric weapon you should be good with just a staff of healing when they get a lucky shot. None of my yeeks, even the monk of nature one, ever died when doing the conga.
Their HP is really not that bad. At level 50 I usually have 900 HP.
> and I can't figure out how anyone who has a job and/or other hobbies would ever beat this damn thing.
20 hours, even counting grinding for *healing*, is an average timecount for winning PCB.
I just sit down and play my roguelikes for two hours each night when I come back from work.
>20 hours, even counting grinding for *healing*, is an average timecount for winning PCB.
*an* average, or your average?
I'm pretty sure I'm slow as shit in any roguelike anyway, too much second guessing or mild retardation or whatever.
Well, this looks balanced. He even resists time.
I'll recommend Bast as another cool form. +20 innate speed, nearly 300 AC, very high stealth and device skill, healing spell, and
Could I survive vault:5?
The problem is I could either teleport, but I would have to get rid of my MR++ ring.
I'm thinking if I drink a potion of might, potion of agility, potion of speed, trog hand and then go down I could kill everyone and not need to teleport.
praise the sun
weird. You're SURE your birth options list (which you can reference but not change after spawning) didn't appear during chargen and didn't let you change wilderness mode? Try getting a fresh copy of poscheng perhaps. Again, weird.
lol, that image captures the sentiment so nicely
well, you can compile from source though obviously that means a bit of fighting with your computer to get it to actually build. I do that even on windows.
that's not bad damage! It's not one of chris' legendary endgame joke poses that could kill the serpent in 7 rounds but it's playable.
No, this is Locke.
Bast hits for 12d12, 2d12, 10d5, 15d1 (plus some status effects that don't matter because everything resists them), which sounds good until you realize that you don't get the +dam or slays from a weapon.
I was thinking more in the Monk terms, since I'm not going to be using any weapons that might increase blows and stuff.
God fucking damnit I promised myself to stop playing PCB for awhile after that harrowing possessor experience.
And here I am starting up a Tonberry monk of nature.
Why is this game literal crack
Watch the MuMo videos to see how to play cautiously, then do that.
Walking away is the most powerful ability in DCSS. Never engage any fight that you don't know 100% you will win.
If you've already engaged on something, use whatever abilities your character has to stop it from dealing damage to you. Throw rocks, use needles, nets, wands, magic spells, whatever your character has to mitigate the threat *before* your HP gets low. If your HP is less than 100%, you should already be looking for a way to escape. Stairs, scrolls of teleport or blink or fear, haste, swiftness, fog, whatever you have.
If you play like your character is an abject coward at all times you tend to do pretty well in this genre.
I've already started on normal
But if I splat, I'm gonna do nightmare. Which might be unwinnable as that combo.
I mainly started this one because I can't get the gloves of master tonberry out of my head. I need this in my life.
>I can't get the gloves of master tonberry out of my head.
I am so sorry, anon.
>Trump rogue round three
>Still on no wilderness birth cause I can't figure out how to undo it now that it's no longer prompting me for this shit
>Rogue reward is a fucking sling
>Can't get an exceptional weapon near my use class
>Not even a good
>Think most of my nons capped at beginner instead of skilled and didn't look cause ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>Broke as fuck cause the clas and realm is ass and if mine to crutch the start one more time I'm going to kill myself and have my hand cut off then sent to chris
>Everything cursed to heck and back cause of crypt creeps combined with chris' decision that having more than 2 remove curse scrolls in levels 1-30 is !FUN AND INTERESTING SITUATIONS!!
>Unskilled dual wield gains fall apart almost immediately but if you don't scrimp every tiny little gain I'll get assfucked in the midgame forced to not dw or dive until lack of OP gear kills me just to be able to hit the broad side of a barn
>Can't hit anything for shit anymore even if hell freezes over and I land a hit
>Spiders going full retard and getting all fucked up
>Have to try and teleport my way out
>Bad room after bad room
>Cat party room
I feel like a battered house wife. It gives me nothing but grief, it's completely not worth it but I keep coming back.
Can you share a quick text file of what forms you found useful when? It'd help a lot
Son of a bitch, it was his new faggot race pick maze I mean menu doing it. That explains it.
Try using a different savefile and see if it still doesn't give you options at birth. I mean there's literally no reason it doesn't.
Are you sure you're not skipping the prompt?
I had almost forgot this part about nghtmare mode, the OOD spaws.
Meanwhile, in Tonberry land
MY FUCKING BOOK YOU MOTHERFUCKER
Oh now I'm mad. I'm gonna beat him into a pulp.
ouch, that really hurt!
Well, you DID hit him in the groin with your knee.
nightmare, among other things, gives all enemies +10 speed. Note earlier the kobold double-moving him in >>127242794
I sure have.
It's funny how the message about the thief fleeing displays after he died.
RUN LITTLE GHOST
>tfw you find an atomic coffeemaker in the first house you raid
This thing is op as hell and makes no sense, but I love it anyway.
Any one of those 5 but the orc would have been an instand leave in that sitch, and if you ran into them in a hall the priests/centaur would get a curare and the wiz needles. Be less aggressive and know how much damage they can do using the wiki.
yeah that's an ancient bug in the *bands. There's actually a post on the official forums bug thread for Vanilla complaining about it. Presumably something to do with the recursive nature of effects and the message system that causes the status-effecty-type-thing (e.g. "stolen") to print after the resolution of death.
The classic example from many *bands comes from fighting melee statdrainers:
>It hits you.
>You feel very stupid.
It's not like it's incredibly challenging to go smash 2 ovens, make a brazier and smash a living room to be able to cook and read all night is oh so challenging or a limited resource. Don't get me started on using your first 50 duct take to put a trunk or cargo carrier on a wood frame so you can haul a full seasons worth of wood from 2 hours of logging in one trip.
That thing is so fucking retarded I swear to god. It also counts as a permanently lit hotplate so you can craft with it.
I mean of course, what would anyone expect from Rivet?
Jesus christ how horrifying. Nope around the corner and hope they come your way to stab them up.
If you can't learn from all the times they annihilated you ass, you get put in timeout in the spoiler corner. :^)
i ran past them to this hallway because its the only route towards the staircase. hopefully i dont end up having to do something loud and aggro them
you just needed to break LoS with a corner so if one shouted you wouldn't instantly get shot at by 5 dudes. You'd be able to stab 1-4 of them then calm mind to restealth and stab the rest for a ton of ammo and maybe a +2 dagger. Speaking of, if you have the level 2 stealth feat just go stap the fuckers
Yeek dude, we became the same for a moment here as the Variant Mantainer polymorphed me.
>permanently lit hotplate
I need to find this this ASAP.
Also finding no and using the atomic nightlight has made me want to have one irl. It's like a forever lasting glow stick.
>armour shops in both Outpost and Morivant are 5k
Just strike me down where I stand.
