I don't know how long I have waited to make a proper log cabin in minecraft.
Though I think I should have looked at some pics of actual log cabins before I started though, this doesn't look right.

The taiga problem is most likely vanilla's fault, you know well how ucked up 1.7 generation is. At least the upcoming RTG version will have compatibility with Climate Control so you'll be able to tweak climate zones so they aren't as huge as they are by default.

Hey guys, I've figured out the origin of the wierd map from earlier: it's from an old dungeon map generator thingamagig that I had at one point a couple computers ago and somehow the map managed to survive. Unfortunately, upon digging through the magical city, a creeper ambushed poor Dai and blew her into Sei, but that's okay because now I can churn these maps out ad-infinum! How many fairies does it take to conqure the dungeon challange, you reckon?
Lets find out! Alloting some 146 bullets to her after the previous dozen attempts of just rushing in with nothing led in tradgedy (not like they'll help: most of the deaths have been lava-related.)
And off to a good start: this part of the dungeon contains an iron boomerand and wing set from one of my ill-fated cohorts who perished to the spiders. Since the save is backed up after this point, it's become something of a side-objective to get the boomerang for a reusable weapon, though I've lost about five Dais getting stuck in the webs.
Note that it took a gorillaton of bullets just to kill a silverfish getting in here: think I'll just save them for actually scary things. Like spiders.

They appear with or without BoP. That's a swampland north of the village. Only mushroom islands are disabled by default.

I think it's because there are about 50 million different taiga biomes in vanilla, and all of them have a mutation. I don't think RTG bothers differentiating the mutations because of how fucking retarded the whole base biome ID + 127 thing vanilla uses is, so it just picks the mutations as if they're their own unique biomes.
But yeah, the whole thing could be fixed by them just making the default biome weights more sensible in the config.
While the spider rooms are always bad news, I've lost most of my saves trying to pass through these infernal lava rooms: when Daiyousei hits the ceiling, she rebounds down a bit, which can lead to her hitting her head and falling into a pit of lava. This is most prominent in the sand rooms full of triggers that cause all the sand to fall to reveal lava when stepped on.
Yee, the mediocre armour room. Not someplace I've been to a dozen times defore (though it should be noted that landmine rooms like the one before it are one of the easiest to clear with gliding.)
Dang it, a stupid maid detonated that lava-sand room! Since it leads to the next area, I'll need to find the nearby sand-room and fill it in to pass.
On an aside, the axe I have is found in a specific quarter of the dungeon behind a landmine room and a smaller lava-sand room: if I had to guess it's the best weapon this place has to offer, and it'll be handy in setting up a base assuming I manage to make it out of this place while carrying it with my current life.
And I mistep and fall into the lava, /again/.
One more attempt for the night before I call it a new year. I'll cut down on the skim and only update to the parts you haven't already witnessed.

Doing so is a workaround for some bugs. For example, large minetweaker scripts will take a while to run, and when starting the game normally (where the server and client threads are in the same process), minetweaker will run on both threads, blah blah blah, and then any mod crafting tables like auto workbenches, LP auto crafting tables or forestry worktables will lose all of their recipes.

IC2 died and spawned an infinite amount of "industrial" mods. Some of which I like are EnderIO, Immersive Engineering and Rotarycraft.
RP is dead too, but there's Redlogic to replace circuitry and logic parts of it.

And before you say anything, that system does work on any other castable metal. You do not need to use the TiC spouts, and you can even use TiC spouts as a cheap alternative to Fluid Transposers if you only need to run them with a right click.

I quite like the Dwellers from that mod - I set them to spawn in ocean biomes, since it adds a bit of danger to underwater exploration.
I don't know of any other mods that actually add threatening underwater enemies so Lycanite's will have to do.
the full stone slabs recipe is actually added by gregtech. I know of several mods that add that convenience recipe.
I don't use minetweak because once you start you never stop. I end up changing every single recipe to fit in with gregtech.
the emblem is a raden charm from AMT2, used for fast travel. you can use them as items or embed them in blocks to make static teleporters.

Not him, or anyone who's played with the mod, but even if they aren't you can use MorePlayerModels and use literally any NPC model installed in your pack as your player model.
I figured out how I killed the serb. I put an EIO Item Buffer next to an Agricraft Seed Storage, and EIO crashes when it tries to check for items to pull. Deleting the buffer or the storage should fix the crashes.
Not sure how you are going to delete it though. Maybe the server's crash reports have the coordinates of the item buffer, and you can delete it with MCEdit?
Looks like whoever made Chisel just ripped the textures from Painterly and didn't even bother to check if they actually looked like the blocks they're meant to be.
And finally, after another bleeding attempt, I am past the spider rooms, the terrible lava, and the gotdamn SAND. Too bad I all managed to get out of this run was some food and a couple crappy pieces of leather armour.

After moving through another lava room, we come across this doozy: these brick rooms have a ceiling of lava and a bunch of pistons underneath which randomly go off to push an unfortunate soul into them.
Another type of sand room: if you somehow manage to arm yourself with a weapon that can destroy blocks, or are in the company of a creeper, these things become a giant hazard. With neither of those, they're just scenery.

Notch made the right choice for himself, but he sure as hell didn't make the right choice for Minecraft. This game is going to going nowhere and we all know it. It's going to go nowhere fast if the dinner and forge can't sync with each other and not release a version that breaks everything.
Also, the Touhou posters and their MMD rips remind me of very early Minecraft when Notch used quake models to showcase the entity system (which is naturally impossible to find because Notch closed his old account). I'm surprised it took that long for someone to remember that the game is not in fact limited to rendering things in sharp polygonal models.

Weird, I came here tonight to look for the answer to that same question, but without planning on actually asking it. It's a shame no one answered. To try to answer it myself, the only one that's been recommended to me is railcraft & and a small mod that makes railcraft compatible with TFC. Apparently railcraft is the mod that adds trains, so I'm looking into how that works now. I'll most likely add it to the /mcg/ TFC server to help players settle down far away in a wide variety of areas
Archimedes updated? That's wonderful news, though I recalled older versions had optional (a bit VERY glitchy) mobility on-vessel. Not sure if I'm refering to the same mod, but I think at one point it had functional redstone as well, which was a godsend for my tank models. I've not used Gaia in a couple versions but it's a breddy gud mod from what I've seen; adds some flavour to the game's overworld.

I use StartingInventory. You just pack up your stuff, save everything in your inventory with the proper command, then start a new world and you should start up with the items.
It's basically normal minecraft, except you need to have like ten times the materials. It's not fun. Instead of spending 20 minutes mining, you just have to spend 3 hours. That's literally the only difference.
Except maybe the whole 'creative items can be made!' which can be done with minetweaker anyway.
If performance is your goal, yeah, every older version of mc runs better than any newer version, just about. It's more about quality/quantity of mods than performance for most people making the choice.

Do Mystcraft worlds run like shit for anyone else. I have loaded up about 8 ages and my game lags the fuck out everytime I try to go into them. I thought it might have just been the chunks loading in the new age. But the lag doesn't go away until I restart minecraft.

What's in your ages? I know when I'd accidentally make an RFTools dim with something that doesn't play nice, like Fluid taint or Liquid Poison, everything goes to hell in a handbasket and I have to restart Infinity to try to get out.

But 4 of them have been floating island worlds that gave potion debuffs [hunger/poison/slowness], 1 of them was a caveworld that had a perma storm up top, 1 was entirely sandstone with no debuffs. and the last 1 was normal world gen but with pink clouds and burning debuff. Every single time it was almost unplayable inside the age and merely very laggy in the overworld until I restarded minecraft.
I disabled the hunger/poison/slowness/burning/etc instability modifiers. Left on the storms, meteors, and stuff like that, because those are fun. Being unable to see because the world is wobbling too much is no fun at all.
I don't mind the effects terribly. But I still wonder if it is mystcraft causing the lag, or something interacting with it that's causing it. For now I think I will remove mystcraft. Super sad though since it's one of my favorite mods.
Man I remember when that place had actual factions fighting for control now you need to go out 5k to even find relative peace. It is pretty amazing . I still get on just to explore battle and grief sites

If I had an easier way to get my hands on lava/netherrack/netherbrick I wouldn't have made the first post, or replied to the other post the way I did. I did think thought this through. The less convoluted ways of getting my hands on the stuff are digging in the same direction for ages in hope of a natural y=11 cave or collecting the handful of lava sources that generate in Twilight Forest Minotaur Labyrinths.
I mean, if more than two or three sources spawned in a single Labyrinth that would actually be a very neat way to gate progression, but even if the dead end with lava actually generates I'd need more than just one.

When you're underground, keep checking JourneyMap for nearby lightsources, especially ravines. It's cheaty, but it's an option.
If you've already found a number of villages, you can find two lava blocks in a Blacksmith villager house.
Otherwise, digging at y=11 or just going caving until you get down to that level is your best option.

I've found three villages, none of them spawned a Blacksmith unfortunately.
I'm still digging. Maybe I'd be better off using those Thaumcraft desert plants to craft Blaze Powder, use those to craft Eyes of Ender, and then use those to find the stronghold. The portal room has a good number of lava sources, doesn't it?

you will need at least 10 for a nether portal
since you have thaumcraft, you might have some of the addons. Do you have the option to make a liquification focus? it can turn stone into lava.
Thaumcraft and its addons are pretty much 90% of my pack, and that includes Thaumic Horizons, so yes, I do have that! I would've never remembered about this focus. Thanks anon, you're a life saver.

It's one of the oldest mods to still be updated and it kind of shows. It's not a bad mod by any means, but other mods do most of the things it does better, and most people have used it so much that they stopped using it out of boredom with it.
multimc is a cock about building a modpack from an archive.
however, magitech's download is packaged in a way that all you have to do is extract the archive directly into your instances folder and it'll work right out of the box.

its easy. toolbar at the top has everything you need to make instances and shit.
when you select an instance you get a bunch of bullshit on the right; to actually install forge you Edit Instance -> Version -> Install Forge button.
adding mods is in the Loader Mods section.
'Settings' is where you set your memory allocations, make sure you actually set those if you use Java 7.
and make sure your permgen is at least 256mb
everything else is either somewhat intuitive or stuff you can figure out by tinkering.

That's the instance set up. Run it once, for good measure. You should see it boot up without issue, and it will display that 3 mods are loaded (Forge core shit, don't freak out that you didn't install anything yet). To get mods:

>scroll down and look for some mods that catch your interest (feel free to ask for guidance here too depending on what you want out of modded), then download the .jar files

I used to have an issue where as I kept playing MC, the game got more and more laggy, and I was forced to close the game and reopen it whenever it got to that point. I think it was Java or something taking a lot of data or some shit. Don't know the exact reason. I hope changing the permgen shit helps.

Depends what kind of toaster you're running. 512mb is a good minimum, but your max should be roughly half of your total physical RAM. So, if you've only got 2gb in your machine, then that's fine, yeah. 4gb you'd be better off with 2048mb, etc.

Nope, FastCraft is working just fine. The console spits out a lot of garbage while booting up, but you can safely ignore all of it unless you're getting severe lag or crashes.

I'm afraid that won't work out, unless you're planning to host one on your own. A client and server need to have (more or less) all the same mods in order for it to work right. A premade pack would probably be your best bet if your aim is multiplayer; /mcg/ has a few servers up that you can get to by downloading their pack. Generally, /mcg/'s custom packs are uploaded as MultiMC instances; you just extract the contents of the .zip into MMC's Instances folder and it should appear in your list.
