in vanilla, a campaign is never truly fucked

I think I've only lost once, on Impossible, because I got an end-of-the-month bunch of abductions over countries that already had satellites (I'd launched them that month to get the sweet sweet asia bonus) so I got into an unwinnable state

you're only fucked when it actually says Game Over, the strategic layer is just a glorified difficulty menu for the tactical missions
>>
How do you start a mission? Everyone walking together out of cover little by little and overwatching? From cover to cover and hope to RNG you don't trigger 3 pods? How do you do it?
>>
>>127059892
in LW, about 7 lost countries is a good indication of having fucked up.
But you can actually win from that on lower difficulties.
on Brutal/Impossible, having lost 7 or more countries is always a disaster unless your tactical game is perfection.
on Normal/Classic, i'd say having lost 12 countries is when you should contemplate abandoning.

>move my guy closest to the skyranger as far as he can go into any sort of cover ready to rock
>if shit activates, start positioning guys to engage or flank, hopefully the squadsight snipers got a shot from the skyranger to help out
>if shit does not activate, overwatch the dude and position guys behind him

and then just sorta play it by ear from there, usually snaking around whatever building is on the map to breach it from multiple sides at once

it really depends on the map, too, there's chess-like openings that are all but guaranteed safe and will get you into a good position to engage in a few turns but they're map-specific. like how the grocery store one has that alley that is always safe all the time, or the stationery selling office/warehouse has that big wall to snake around towards the little park-y break area
>>
>>127060325
also I don't mean this as a memester "lol git gud how r u aheving probleme" but more that there's no real consequence for doing badly in the strategic layer until you actually finally lose. I think the only second wave option that really even gets close is "Results Driven" and you make so much from selling alloys and elerium and corpses that you don't really need council funding anymore after a point
>>
>>127061516
>start positioning guys to engage or flank
Trying to flank on the first pod is like begging to activate a 2nd and a 3rd.
>>
>>127062003
This is exactly why I think absolutely critical is a nice perk in LW. If you're going to be taking a huge risk in getting a flank you should be guaranteed the reward.

shit advice t_b_h_f_a_m

>>127060671
just move your assault first.

if vanilla:
pod activates
break los with assault
ow with rest
peek-breaklos until flanks
remove ayy

if longwar
break enemy ow's with scout or tanky mec
move all soldiers in position and kill as many ayys as possible, leaving everyone in good position and high cover or smoke grenaded.
suppress/flashbang/overwatch ayys in indestructible full cover.

whatever you do

DO NOT TRY TO FLANK THEM BY MOVING FORWARD.

DO NOT PUT PEOPLE ON OVERWATCH BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE A POD

ergo, do not follow this advice >>127061516
>>
>>127047343
There's really no need if you understand the flanking/step out system.
>>
>>127062484
>DO NOT PUT PEOPLE ON OVERWATCH BEFORE YOU ACTIVATE A POD

>>
>>127062003
see >>127062343 I do not play without Absolutely Critical and Damage Roulette on ever anymore. flanking is complete bullshit in base vanilla

I play incredibly aggressively though and with lots of assaults and sprinter supports so it usually works out. Run & Gun is some real nigga shit when you use it to reposition rather than just try to steamroll, and 100 Aim supports that can blue move across the map ain't nothin to fuck with

shit advice
>peek-breaklos
>you can peek around a corner and break los at the same time
memester spotted

>>127047343
no and despite what the memers will tell you, you just kinda have to hope because the flanking/LOS system is buggy as fuck

note that sometimes it'll give you the flanked bonus without actually saying they're flanked because of HUD bugs
>>
>>127062693
I think he means when you plan to activate the pod on the same turn you shouldn't do that. Probably because the AI moves to positions where they could possibly flank someone with ease. It'd suck to have someone flapping in the wind when the alien turn rolls around.
>>
>>127062693
the only scenario when overwatching before activating a pod would be useful is activating a singular muton berskerer.

every overwatch is a wasted 2 action points you could take in reaction to what the enemy does.
overwatching before activating a pod is like putting all your money on 0 in roulette
>>
>>127062846
enough with the memester bullshit, the game has bugs and iffy LOS but there are some definite rules.
>>
>>127062846
i think he meant, peek out of the cover, and if enemies are in cover/overwatch/ready for you, break los again.
if they are flanked and shit positions, move everyone up and take ez shots.

that would require three moves to first break los, peek, then re-break los

and even then, it's usually better to just keep the guy overwatching from full cover since it keeps aliens in place, and with mid-game soldiers, you can start taking 60+% laser potshots with people who weren't doing anything useful anyway (lasers and up destroy cover fairly well) and you can start feeling safe about cover actually helping when you boost it further with smoke, skeleton suits, etc

I watched all Xcom 2 videos and notice, that the Mumbai "terminal-hack" mission is classified as EASY mission. If i compare this with an easy abduction mission in Xcom: EW i get this:

Easy mission during april, normal difficulty in Xcom:EW:
2 pods, 4 aliens total
4 different enemy-types possible.

Easy mission during april, veteran difficulty in Xcom 2:
3 pods, 6 aliens total (+ possible turrets, + possible reinforcments)
6 different enemy-types known, maybe more possible.

We see, that Xcom 2 have more enemies and more diversity on the map. And more stuff can happen too. In Xcom you see on such an early easy mission at best 2 different alientypes, but in Xcom 2 you could see them all.

Not only this, in Xcom:EW the early enemies are pretty standart: Sectoids cripple themself with mind-merge, Floaters fly, Thin mans can spit poison and Seekers waste your time, most of that is pretty straight forward.
In Xcom 2, except the normal Advent soldier, all enemies have many different special abilities and roles.

At all, i like that we face more aliens on the field, than in Xcom:EW. More enemies with a lot of different abilities = more action, tactic and decisions than alpha strike anything away.

It's interesting too, that the enemies have more HP an armor, but the damage of them isn't as high like Xcom:EW . Xcom-soldiers have more HP too, in all the playthroughs i never saw some Xcom-soldier got one-shot, beside of the early build Viper binding, which got nerfed to 2 damage in a modern build anyway.

I don't think that we will see 9 crit thinman instant-kills anymore, and thats a very good sign.

>>127064517
The pod placements are fixed and never change unless you mod the game. They are designed to minimize the chance of first turn contact.
>>
>>127064653
because
if you blue move your scout and they OW
you have to yellow move your scout to break it, thus losing a soldier's potential for that turn

with moving the assault up
you can break ow with a blue move from your scout, and then have a yellow move+run and gun on your assault, and a yellow move on your scout.
Thus having all the damage potential still up.

R&G to a piece of high cover, full cover + tac sense + skeleton suit tops out at 70 defense, will probably be 65 with a typical pod of three. increase it further to 85 with a smoke grenade if you have to, or 105 with dense smoke. you can even get a shot off from that high cover and hope to at least break some cover for someone else on your team to get a free crit on an exposed ayy

maybe you should stop being mad + bad and get some reading comprehension and realize that the three people with blue moves left would be the ones to move to flank or at least get good shots, and the one already blue moved can either take a shot, fall back and break los, or activate R&G to make some real shit pop off if it's an assault

>>127063993
i'm glad pods are more diverse. so many pods in EW, especially in the first months, are just 2-4 of the same enemy which is far easier than dealing with a diverse groups. chryssalids are only dangerous when you're busy with other aliens for instance.

alien rarity also seems more enforced compared to vanilla EW where once a common enemy like Thin Men or Floaters were introduced, they'd be all over the place. Vipers seem to be pretty common, with Sectoids being more infrequent, and I only saw a single Muton in one playthrough of the Blacksite

I agree. I like the concept of that "1 Boss and his 2 minions". So not 3 aliens of the same type, but 1 strong and up to 2 weaker ones. I hope this will sacale up during the game. So for example in early game the Viper is the "Boss", but later its only a minion who follows a stronger ayy.

One article mentioned that sectoids will be more common later in the game, i hope we will see them more often, because they have an unconventional style to fight (zombies and debuffs)

>>127069037

I doubt this. Thin Mints are hated because of their incredible aim, formost if they jump on roofs and their damage and critchance in classic/ironman. Ah, and you meet them in the first two months where they one-hit your soldiers.
Unfair enemies and it make no fun to play against them, because it's only black and white, if don't kill them in one turn, they will kill you on their turn.

Snek is complete different. Her weapon aim don't seems so high (and she can't jump on roofs) and if she hit, than only for 3-5 damage. A squaddie with 6 health survive this. Her tongue-bind combo got pretty nerfed in a newer build showed 2-3 weeks ago, it only makes 2 damage. You can free a soldier if you hit her and the freed soldier have full movment after that, so he can kill the snek after that in close combat.
Posin is dangerous, but not imbalanced, she can't spam it and soldiers lose few HP during some turns.
A other important thing is, that don't get spammed with her. A early pod have maybe only 1 snek, maybe there are 2-3 on a map, but Xcom:EW council missions have tons of thin mints everywhere and they drop into everywhere too.

>>127070073
This. If she tongue-bind a soldier he lose 2 HP. Than you have whole turn to hit (not kill) her to free the soldier who set up the revange.
Snek seems more of an save bet for a bit damage, because of 100% poison aim & damage and a high chance of the tonguepull who do 2 damage. But after that, there isn't much.
But the Viper is still dangerous. If she is behind full cover and tongued a soldier you have a hard time to hit her. And she have grace too, what makes her harder to kill if you don't use explosives. She also make almost always damage if she didn't move in a turn, because tonguemiss and posion spit is possible in a turn. And her bind is always annoying, because you must care about her, what make other aliens in that time more dangerous.
Overall a good support unit but not a killing machine i think.

I wonder why people want a infiltrator class in Xcom 2. EW had a spy, but it wasn't a class.
And with Xcom we got a battlefield infiltrator unit, the Ranger with his scout build who is designed to infiltrate the enemy lines and kill big aliens out from his stealth.
We have already the stealthy scout perk for the ranger.

I don't understand this game. If you move your character twice per round, you risk running discovering enemies at the end of your turn and your character gets fucked up because he can't do anything. I played Enemy Unknown first so it was annoying, but whatever, you just have to go slower. Now that I'm on Enemy Within I have to worry about meld containers and basically have to play recklessly and risk my characters getting blown the fuck up because I had to dash towards the meld containers. Why?
>>
>>127075642

>>127075865
Meld can be collected at the end of a successful mission provided it isn't destroyed. Alien pods have a tendency to be nearby meld containers so suspect they could be a trap. Ultimately meld is only used for MECs and gene mods so you don't need to get a ton of it.

Yes, cryssalids are only scary if you never saw them before or on the first terror mission on higher difficulty.
But...
...in Xcom 2 things can change. I not talk about the 3 chryssalids from a coccon or that they can bury themself.
I bet they can melee attack after a dash like the Ranger and the Stunlancer... and that would be really scary.

Ready for that alien invasion in April?
>>
>>127076441
I disagree with this.
The offensive marauder setup is kinda stupid, here's why:
You will almost always want to get a CE shot every turn. You will be running out of ammo every other turn if you use RF.
If this is the case, CCS makes no sense at all.
On a marauder you should get either CCS or RF. Never both. Wasted perk.
The defensive marauder looks okay.

Jaegers. These were always a problem.
There is no "perfect balance" of offense and defense here. That's what you need for a jaeger to be truly useful and not die if something goes bad.
Obviously you can get tactical sensors, but that barely helps.

Squadsight is absolutely useless, because you will be flanking aliens.

an Absorption Field Jaeger won't get the kills you really need and let you down
a LnL/VPT Jaeger die instantly IF it doesn't get the kills you need.
It really is a trap. Snipers are too good of a class to chop up. They can do whatever a jaeger can, aside from the bonus 2-3 damage from MEC weapon.

The rest of the MEC builds look good.

maybe they would be a captured ayy that you remove their chip and they become awakened that the Ethereals basically made them slaves for their cause.

So, what's the general consensus of Long War here? I just got Enemy Within, and really want to start a new campaign. My main issue with the original XCOM: EU is that the game becomes too easy near the end. Difficult at first, and even through the mid part of the game, but once you near fully upgraded and have good troops, the difficulty plateaus rather than throwing new challenges at you.

I read the feature list on Long War, but it seems like I'd both love and hate some of their changes.

As a whole though, would you agree that it's worth the download, or should I just stick to EW?
>>
>>127110312
I do recommend at least trying it. You're either going to love it or you're going to hate it.
But it would still be a good idea to do a vanilla EW campaign just so you can get familiar how MELD changes your play style a little and how MECs work.
>>
>>127110529

it will be happening, either officially or a mod, easiest solution will be she can't equip armor (perhaps have a research project to upgrade the stats) and can only use bind on Advent,

all the other abilities should work with Ayy models and i'm assuming the weapon she uses is not part of her model.

then it is just a matter of building a progression tree that doesn't require special animations, a sniper/assault tree should work.

>the air game is absolute shit

There's loads of little gripes like that which just make the game worse to play

I'd say the biggest major flaw is the mission length, they massively up the number of enemy spawns and enemy resistances meaning that every single mission takes ages to beat
And in the early game this is amplified further by having dogshit long war rookies, at least later on you get your own troops who are overpowered to speed things up

It's trying to almost directly ape UFO but it's forgetting that ufo was a game that most players won by standing on top of the skyranger whilst using a rookie to scout

I'd wager that a lot of the biggest LW shouters are relatively young, and to whom modding games is fairly new. They just dont have the experience in big mods to look at it from an outside perspective.
That's also why they cant hear someone criticizing it. A lot of younger folks have a habit of categorizing games into "good" and "bad".
Good games are great and any critic against them is either irrelevant or wrong in their opinion.
Bad games meanwhile are garbage, and any good parts aren't worth talking about or are somehow deeply flawed.

While we, more experienced people understand that quality isn't so black and white, some people just haven't had the time to gather that experience.

So in the end, its best to just ignore or be professional about it. Those people who shout "git gud LW is a masterpiece" will grow up in time and realize their errors on their own.

So I had an exalt mission and confounding light at the same time. I did the exalt one first since I had less time to complete it. After I finished it, during the flight back to base, I was notified that confounding light was ending soon. A few seconds later at base, I saw that it was no longer available. I'm not sure how much time was remaining for confounding light, but I do know that I didn't take into account how much time passes during flight to missions. Anyways, a few days later at the council report it said I completed a council mission. I didn't see any significant changes in panic levels for countries either, so I'm assuming the game just did t register confounding light? Can't remember if I had another one earlier in the month, but you only get one council mission per month, right? I guess I just want to know what happened. Was this a bug? Don't know how I feel about the lucky break, it really out me ahead with soldier fatigue. Feels like I cheated.

>>
>>127115590

That being the case, maybe what we need is a modpack for LW that focuses on addressing its biggest and most widely-criticised flaws. Those who don't see them as flaws needn't use the pack, but those who can't stand the air game, think rocket scatter is bullshit, and so forth will get the quality of life improvements they feel LW needs. Indeed, the first Lightning Reflexes dodge only being 90% stands out as being a big one for me.

Eventually, this pack could re-rebalance the whole mod so it's not retardedly long anymore, but that'd be a final stop after fixing all the smaller stuff. Maybe call it "No-So-Long War" or something like that.
>>
>>127115825
>everyone who disagrees is a boor
Ah mate, could you have missed the point harder?
It was basically that games can and should be analyzed critically, and every game has faults. Shouting meaningless "LW is shit" or "LW is great" is worth absolutely nothing.
Backing your opinions up with at least a bit of explanation is the basis of any discussion, and younger people (and shitposters) have a habit of responding to others with anger and simple "youre fucking retarded" etc.
>>
>>127115903

>>
>>127115903
>Indeed, the first Lightning Reflexes dodge only being 90% stands out as being a big one for me.
Yeah, how dare a perk completely nullify overwatch 100% of the time.

>>127116001
Didn't you know? Rockets go where you point them 100% of the time without fail!
>>
>>127116078
>how dare a perk completely nullify overwatch 100% of the time.

Lightning Reflexes is literally designed to counter overwatch. It is the only purpose of that skill. The mechanic where the follow up shots are easier to hit for the enemies is legit, but throwing an arbitrary RNG twist on what is a tool is stupid.
LR first shot should be 100%, the rest can be 70%.

But whatever, that is only my opinion on the matter, and I can change it in the ini if I so desire.

But again. Your passive-aggressive responses are getting pretty annoying. We get it. You love and adore LW. No need to comment on every post with that same thing.
>>
>>127116078

Considering that the inbuilt unreliability of the perk (something no amount of player skill can compensate for, I should stress) is such that I've seen people happily choosing to play through long war with zero scouts on their roster? But again, this is why I'm proposing a separate quality of life pack you could choose to DL and add to LW, rather than making changes to base LW itself. That way, the people who want accurate rockets, 100% first-dodge LW, easier air game, and so forth can have it, and those who prefer LW as it is now aren't affected.
>>
>>127115903
I can understand not really liking the air game, but rocket scatter isn't really as much of a problem as people make it out to be. You can build around it really easily, and the trade-off between mobility and accuracy is pretty important given how strong rockets are.
>>
>>127115992
Your post would've been a lot better if its main point wasnt relegated to two sentences surrounded by lowlevel argumentation tactics like implying that the reader would have to admit they're stupid if they disagree with you, and if it didn't end on the note of
>Those people who shout "git gud LW is a masterpiece" will grow up in time and realize their errors on their own.
instead of what is supposed to be your main point,
>quality isn't so black and white
>>
Why are there even classes in this game? It doesn't make sense especially if I can't pick who gets what job. It feels more restricted than the original XCOM where I could hand out arbitrary classes.

Hey, I'm just going by what people said in response to >>127114167 . IMO, I actually agree that rocket scatter isn't such a big problem with LW compared to some of the other issues, but a quality of life minimod pack would be intended to address the most common raft of complaints. I suppose more controversial ones could be relegated to second wave options, but both you and >>127116372 are both kind of missing the overall point. Regardless of what specific changes were made, I think the idea of a minimod pack that address the "20% of shit changes" outlined in >>127110762 instead of agitating for making these changes part of core LW is a good idea, because that way you're giving people the option to either make those changes to their LW experience or not.

The problem is you're conflating flaw with design decision you disagree with. The only point you've raised that could actually be argued as a flaw is the air game, but that isn't because of difficulty, it's because it's a shallow income sink.

Rocket scatter, LR nerfs, and the length aren't "flaws", they're conscious design decisions fulfilling their intended effect.
>>
>>127117410

I'm only giving examples of what could conceivably be changed. Although personally I still think LR 90% first dodge is an outright flaw because it makes scouts RNG enough that some people refuse to use them at all. There's no way the player can ensure they will actually be able to do their job, in other words, whereas you can skill your way into making any of the other seven classes do what they're supposed to reliably (including rocketeers, more-or-less).

But in any case, for this hypothetical modpack what I'd probably do (although feel free to suggest a better way of determining what should be changed) is put what ought to be changed and what ought not to be down on the basis of popular consensus. That seems like the sensible way to do it given that the pack would be intended for people who like LW but are part of the group who have commonly-cited gripes with it.

>never preorder
God damn it they are forcing me to pirate again!
>>
>>127117824
>There's no way the player can ensure they will actually be able to do their job
chameleon suit

Also, I find tradeoffs that are complicated enough to avoid common consensus are exactly what makes interesting balancing, if we all agreed on every build it would make for a pretty boring meta. If some people refuse to use scouts that only increases my opinion of LR, although I doubt there's a significant contingent of non-baddies holding that opinionm

>>
>>127120781
> Does Long War change something about it?
the answer to that question is almost always yes

LW uses the genemod models for light armors, fluffed as providing much less protection but giving mobility instead.
>>
>>127120781
Long war splits the gene mod versions of the different armor suits into a "lighter" version of the main armor suits. So carapace armor has +5 health +1 mobility and sleeves, while the gene mod model is renamed phalanx armor and gvies +3 health and +2 mob. This is consistent across the entire line of armor suits, and helps keep low mobility troops who aren't often in the line of fire keep up.

Gives a Will boost alongside the ability, and it's useful in the early game for preventing panic chaining.
You can use the Alien Trophy, but that hurts more for item slots until you get Tactical Rigging, and you normally want a flashbang.

My problem with flying enemies like Drones and Seekers is that they are just annoying. Not challenging or interesting, since their damage is dogshit and their strategies are so simple. They are just a very uninteresting enemy to fight, and in LW that is amped to the maximum.

>rocketeers are gods when they are max rank and with blaster launchers
Gee, did I disagree with that? However they are very annoying to level up.

Oh but you already said it
>you can remove via ini filies
Well fucking thank you for this insight!

Anyways. I did a Brutal Bronzeman campaign back in B14 days and haven't felt the need to return. While there are a lot of good things, there are a lot of fucking awful things that just serve to grind the player down with repetition and filler.

Like, I do not hate the mod. I think its a good mod for those who got bored of vanilla and wanted to amp the experience up. However I think there are a lot of balance concerns and design decisions that just serve to annoy the player.
If you enjoy it so much that you defend it with your life then good for you mate. I can't be arsed to fight with you.

>>
>>127124949
>Not challenging or interesting, since their damage is dogshit and their strategies are so simple

Seekers are designed to be insanely annoying and hard IF you're fiighting other pods.

Drones are designed to be supporting units for big mechanical units, like mechtoids, cyberdiscs and sectopods.
They shouldn't be a problem alone.

>They are just a very uninteresting enemy to fight, and in LW that is amped to the maximum.

Complaining like this just screams about the minimal experience you have with long war.

>However they are very annoying to level up.
Oh, you just hate the leveling up part then?
That's atleast 1/3 of the fun, but whatever.

If you're too lazy to level up your soldiers and micromanage them, you might as well stick to the overly simplified games.

>Like, I do not hate the mod. I think its a good mod for those who got bored of vanilla and wanted to amp the experience up. However I think there are a lot of balance concerns and design decisions that just serve to annoy the player.

I don't think "drones are annoying" is a balance issue. Unless you think they're weak, which IMO they aren't, because they take a shitload of ammo to kill. Easy to kill if fighting just one pod, as with any ayy, but if sectoids wander in when your entire squad is depleted from killing one drone..

The only issues of LW are the too small maps and maybe the grindy midgame. You are wrong in this belief.

While the vanilla curve is exactly like that, I heavily disagree with your LW curve. Operation Spectral Empire has so far been an success, over 2 hours of sitting like ducks waiting for ayys to come and eat bullets. My scout has had the luck of gods on his side when dodging bullets and baiting ayys. Super engineer has been vital in thinning their number so big ones can be focused. I killed most of my confirmed pods and strugglers yet I keep hearing more sounds than just the Frisbee I have in my sights, Outsider are a highly probable.

Some statistics.
No soldiers dead.
All but my sniper have wounds.
One alien grenade left.
MVP is my Engineer/Scout.

Ayyy pods killed thus far:
1x Double Sectopod toy collection with a leader.
1x Mechtoid leader and his pit stop crew
1x Frisbee leader, his little brother and their friends
1x Pack of Mints
1x Futbol Team with an angry leader
1x SectoPod with a guest floater to record carnage.
1x Reserve Futbol Team

Ayyy pods still at large:
?x ???
1x Possible Outsider pod

Miscellaneous ayys:
1x Now found off course Frisbee Jr

Mission has not been a disaster.
>>

>>

>>
>>127130651
Does it get better?

I got bored after each mission took so long, I was always using rookies too because of fatigue

The only difficulty element that seemed unfair was the Outsider regening and panicking half my army with every shot
Nothing else seemed unfair, just massively biased towards a slow approach
>>
>>127130891
It gets better, honestly the early game is just a chore in LW.

The game becomes interesting once you hit laser weapons and have enough soldiers to actually use strategies other than breaking los into ogrewatch.

>>
>>127141508
Look, I've had my fair share of vanilla and long war.
I clocked 1000 hours in this shitty fucking single player game because I'm THAT autistic.

Vanilla has an inverted difficulty curve.

It gets insanely boring after you get lasers and plasma. The tactical missions are boring, and you have all the sats so panic is nothing interesting either.

The only worthy part of vanilla is the early game, until you get your sats and lasers.

Long war is the opposite.
Early game is a breeze and feels very fucking boring, without any sense of difficulty.

But then there's a bump in difficulty when the 10+ HP mutons show up.

That's when people used to vanilla ezpz midgame say that LW is bullshit and ragequit. They were obviously playing on impossible and got squadwiped by mutons about 4 times.

definitely do the research for supercapacitors but gauss should suffice, even though it'll get pretty weak if you play careful it should be good
>>
>>127148345
It's cheaper and easier to produce than plasma, but does 1 less damage.

If you're drowining in elerium and alien weapons from your captures, skipping pulse is the best choice. But if you have barely any elerium and barely any captures, get pulse.
>>
>>127148345
I almost always skip pulse, because gauss is great. The +1 ammo and DR reduction makes gauss on par with pulse.

However, there's a foundry research named supercapacitors that gives your airgame an insane boost, but you need to research pulse for it,
you will also need pulse for EMP and fusion weapons, such as blaster launcher.

They get free steadfast with the psi boosting item they all carry late game. Steadfast is good on medic only because the alternative are garbage. I don't take it with Assaults because its in competition with CCS.

S N E K T I T S
>>
>>127156014

It's not great with an assault rifle and no ammo boosting items or perks. I like my medics to carry medkits, chem, and dank smoke, so I get limited value from suppression. More or less similar effects effects can be granted via psi or chem or smoke and I can reserve my bullets for killing things in a pinch.

If you like suppression medics with lock and load go ahead with it. I think they're strictly inferior to overwatch infantry and support and psi medics.
>>
>>127156545
why do medics need mobility

i make the mobile guys engineers and everyone else medic because their job is to keep those medkits safe and maybe shoot if there's spare cover after the infantry, gunner, rocketeer and everyone else takes their spots

I always take General Van Doorn & Glenn Friendly on the same mission, ALWAYS. They are a power duo for me, Van Doorn (Gunner) whipping with LMG & Friendly (Sniper) with Sniper Rifle.

Terror mission, sweeping the last of lids.
Mission was a pain in the ass even though aliens had no big hitters, just lots of Chryssalids, some Thinmints & Frisbees.
