Bisu vs EffOrt, best of 5.
For those of you in the dark, BW has been making a comeback in Korea for a while now, but this is the first English-casted finals in years (featuring pictured goofballs). If viewership is high enough tonight, it could become a regular thing. I know some of you remember the glory days.
MAKE BROOD WAR GREAT AGAIN
For those of you interested in the narrative, just recently Bisu faced off against streaming personality Terror (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbcPKaCSw7k) in a best of five match. Loser shaves their eyebrows. Obviously Terror wouldn't win in a normal match, so he was granted maphacks. What Bisu didn't count on was EffOrt coaching at Terror's side. He was defeated and as a result, any eyebrows you see tonight will be painted on.
SDM was based as fuck.
Remember when they tried to pair Tasteless with that female commentator who literally had no clue what was going on at any point in time, though? Shit sucked. You could tell that he had to try really hard sometimes not to tell her to fuck off.
Oh shit, OP here, pretty sure the finals aren't being broadcast on GSL's channel. Actual stream link:
Before LotV hit I was really close to switching back to BW, I even played some games on ICC to get into the feel again, but right now I really like LotV. Once they finally patch the dumb shit it will be by far the best iteration of SC2.
Tastless worded it well when he said that if you love one of of them you'd love the other too if you got into it.
In other words, vets should come back for LotV and newcomers should give BW a shot.
>le SC2/BW is ded gaem may may
Epic post, Anon. Now go fuck yourself.
Yeah. I really like trying hard in the games I play especially those that can played competitively. I remember playing hours of BW just so I could reach C+ on ICCup. Like upwards of 12 hours mastering builds.
>our guy JP stopped doing state of the game years ago
starcraft is much, much harder to master and offers wayyyyy more strats when you did master the race you're playing. which is logical since you don't control 1 unit but a whole bunch of them
Anybody else playing SC2 actively? What league/rank are you?
first season playing again since wol and in high diamond. decent winrate vs diamonds but most times i queue into masters i lose which can get frustrating. really enjoying it though.
>korea time with tastosis thread
i've missed this
i've never really watched brood war tho
is... is this real life? what's the meta like now? the last thing i knew was from 2011
>tfw not allowed to say savior is my favourite player anymore
Sure, he pulled a dickmove, but that doesn't change that he's THE most interesting player to watch in BW history
Bisu never switched and Effort is one of the few players who went back to BW.
SC2 has been "ded" for 4 years now, but there are still high quality tourneys all around and 300k people playing 1v1 ladder this season.
>tfw I got to B- on the back of 9 hatch 9 gas 9 pool speedling into lurkers rushes
>tfw you're a fan of humanity struggling for survival against an overwhelming alien menace
Also it's Ultralisks nowadays. I mean Brood Lords are still there but they come around way later.
this takes me back to the old days watching sc2 tournaments in the GOM tv player
>tfw I remember watching a brood war match with /v/ commentated by tasteless back in 2007
>"Apologize for playing that race"
Guess the Broodwar player.
Bases have fewer minerals per patch, forcing players to expand into half-map scenarios with higher frequency. Multi-pronged attacks/harassment is now the standard, and it feels a lot more like BW as a result. Also the new units are great. I especially like the Liberator, it's like a Valkyrie and a siege tank combined into one unit.
The economy has changed radicially, you start with 12 workers and mine out WAY faster, the result is that players need to take bases at a similar pace to BW (sometimes faster) which spreads the fighting out over the map a lot better and weakens the boring as shit turtle on 3 base type builds that were so popular during late wings and hots, the races also got a lot more tools with lotv that encourages different types of harrass and creative play. Macro mechanics also got weakened, encouraging micro.
The game is very interesting right now, and quite similar to BW with how there's constant action from a very early stage and often several fights going down at once.
We'll see how long it lasts though, SC2 pros are very coddled with the constant patching and prefer crying about balance rather than searching for a solution inside the game itself, so it's possible that blizzard ends up nerfing all the fun and interesting things, reducing the game to the bland and uninteresting crap it was in hots.
I would say Zerg is the weakest. Outside of a few players, Zerg players were always crushed and the latter stages of BW was dominated by Ts and Ps. Heck I remember OSL and MSL having top 8 which lack a single Zerg.
not really, the action in LotV is still focused on 1 spot, the drops are not as exciting because its really easy to deal with it relatively compared to BW where if you cant multitask, a multipronged drop will kill you outright
Bisu gonna get 0-3 just like the SSL11 Finals vs Hero.
Hey now, don't make me hallucinate a bunch of carriers and make you ragequit the game.
Zerg always had someone on the top and arguably 2 of the GOATs (maybe the GOAT if you prefer Savior over Flash)
Zerg always had July, Savior, Jaedong, Effort, etc (im pretty sure Im missing 3 or 4 who were always placing in top 3 during their era)
name one good thing about broodwar
90% of the people talk about the mechanics required to play it like a good thing
any game that was released with similar features today would be an absolute joke
Fug i was too busy looking for my cd case to reinstall broodwar i missed the end
i also just realized how much shit i bought during the years i'm literally sitting on a treasure of vidyas but my bank account is empty! anyays, who won?
Why is everything in japanese? I can't read any of the signs.
Jaedong, Effort were the only top 2 zergs when I still watched BW while Protoss had the 6 dragons and Terran had Flash aka probably the best SCBW of all time in his prime at BW prime.
Nice cheese you fucking scrub. Shame Flash didn't quit SC2 sooner so we could have TvZ finals
Are you fucking kidding? Boxer at his prime won't even beat Fantasy. Boxer thrived in an age where micro was everything and macro hasn't been discovered yet. Most games were just 2 base games. The moment Macro became a thing, Boxer fell off the face of BW. Flash however was the best player ever in SCBW imo regardless of era.
I have no idea what's going on but I'm enjoying it. I hope they keep doing these.
nope boxer was a strategist, while all the amateurs are mechanically driven. Boxer easy 3-0 anyone in his prime on any of these maps.
Are you blind? Did you not see how critical every single move was? Did you not see Bisu lose control of his attacking units while the minimap showed his frantic micro at his base trying to construct a >>324946538 and micro his probes?
That was incredible and it was only a super greedy expand by protoss.
Maybe next match we will hold your hand and tell you everything that is happening faster than we can type.
To be fair Hwaseung was the equivalent of old Cleveland where it was just Jaedong carrying a bunch of fucking scrubs. Is it fucking amazing they made proleague finals as well.
But there were many more matchfixers, savior wasn't even close to the most notorious, he was a broker. He was the most famous of the matchfixers, but that's about it. Lying to his coach about his involvement was a much bigger dickmove than the minor broking he did.
>crushed the entire BW scene
Fuck no, changed it forever? Yeah. Killed? Not even close.
Exactly. He allegedly didn't fix any of his own matches (probably because he had already fallen off the face of BW by the time of the scandals and nobody bet on him anyway) and only did some minor broking. He was the most famous, but far from the worst.
I'd rather be that bitching old man. My grandpa complained about our generation's music, but because we never listened, we're now flooded in ghetto rap and dubstep.
Rest in peace, grandpa.
IS SC:BW BACK?
PLEASE GOD LET IT BE TRUE. LET IT NOT BE A SIMPLE PRANK
Hell yeah son. The high AoE, the tension when it's a long shot and it might dud
>new GSL Classic league
>all matches with english commentary and camera toward english casters
>literally bringing back the past
Yes. I can't wait
THE FUCKING DT
THIS GAME IS TOO GOOD
>that reaver micro
>killer corsair harass
>that final all-in attack
CAN'T CROSS THE TOSS
Watch the aforementioned TY vs Patience match, LotV is showing promise. Don't forget, SC1 wasn't perfect from the outset either. Blizzard released patches up to ten years later. SC2 has had six.
the starcraft scene is like the smash scene
sc1 has a MUCH higher skill cap than sc2 (similar to melee vs smash4)
after the honeymoon phase of the new game expires, it's no surprise that watching top sc1 players is way better than watching top sc2 players
meh it's match fix. They probably don't want to end in 3-0.
Effor saw the gateway opening yet he proceed to make only 2 lings. He even move the initial 2 lings toward bisu base instead of use those 2 lings to kill the initial zealot going toward his main. He could have kill the gateway and forge with his hydras since cannons are out of range but he decide not to. He didn''t even try to kill it.
THERE"s NO ZERG THAT DOES NOT DO THAT IF THEY DO HYDRA OPENING.
Then he abandon his 3rd which contain TWO of his hatchets to counter attack.
Pretty lame. I know they want the get as much sponsor exposure as possible but eh.
>sair reaver into lot archon with some dts
>normal pvz in sc2
Higher skill cap? Because the game is just old and shity? Watching this last game, it didn't appear that they did anything special. Some decent micro, but i'd argue it was better done in sc2.
its true though
Boxer was a pioneer but his play was really subpar compared to the real Bonjwas
Savior is pretty much the most dominant player in the history (Flash is a choker), he dominated as Zerg when no Zerg was in the top 10
I just don't want you guys to push the muh amazing, microable, greatest game of all time, honorable broodwar here. A player of Effort caliber would not make those mistakes. he could have make initial 6 lings and win the game there.
You are clearly just blind then.
>but i'd argue it was better done in sc2.
You mean it was done more easily, since micro is a complete joke in sc2 due to MBS, clumping, better AI, unlimited unit selection, etc.
what? do you even watch gls? phoenixes into taking 3rd and dts is common in zvp. its just that protoss have more options now in sc2. they can go immortals, distruptors, colosssus, void rays or dts.
and in bw you just have to go reavers which is basically same thing as distruptors
Warp is buffed even more than before due to warp prism, so gateway units have to be shit tier and protoss has no defender's advantage. Every other P game is all-in.
No. Dreamhack had great viewership earlier today. The casuals are definitely all gone though.
It has been for a while. Barely gets 5k viewers for it's biggest tournaments these days.
>Higher skill cap? Because the game is just old and shity? Watching this last game, it didn't appear that they did anything special. Some decent micro, but i'd argue it was better done in sc2.
this must be bait. no one would ever argue against the fact that sc1 has a higher skill cap than sc2
>not watching korean stream whether you understand it or not
I guess i became a fan out of necessity. I remember tasteless GOM days and how refreshing it was to understand commentary. Still..Korean announcers get so hyped up.
You are delusional if you think that effor does not notice the dt killing his worker when he only has 3 base to manage. 4 or more I'll believe it but when he has only 3 base, he definite knows but let it happen.
Yes, what's your point? Are you saying because it's Bisu, Effort suddenly got scare and decide not to attack his gateway and forge like he did on the 1st game?
I don't need to hide that glorious toss victory.
>that moment when you remember how much you hate idra fans
He WILL come back to SC, just you wait
>they have to explain everything in terms of SC2
>YOU HAVE TO TELL THE DRONES TO MINE
>YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE OVERLORD AWAY
>HOLY SHIT GUYS THEY ARE ON FIRE RIGHT NOW
About to switch over to Korea fun stream 2bh
>fe into stargate into templar archives
>bw has one "best build" for a couple years
>its really good why do anything other than the best!!!!!
>literally any other game does something the same for sixth months
>omg stale meta this is pathetic this game is shit
>dragoons vs hydralisks
WOW GUYS THIS SURE IS AN EBIN META
However, after much speculation surrounding his return for Heroes of the Storm, Evil Geniuses confirmed that they were resigning him as part of their HotS team to compete at BlizzCon 2014 alongside LzGaMeR and newcomers John Peacock (Chillatech), Guillaume Ouellet (Keylax), and Kayla Murray (Faye
>>omg stale meta this is pathetic this game is shit
Because there's more to the game then just builds? There's deviation after the fast expand, then there's the micro and mistakes and how far can the player push their race. Meta is stale for the last few years after sc2 was introduce but people still play it for those factors.
Your chess opening prepare for all response and opening from your opponent, the same reason why protoss use those opening because it prepare their race for whatever their opponent will do.
hey sc2 fags, when was the last time you saw bases get taken up like this?
>Arguing Starcraft vs Starcraft
Literally unending autism.
BW is harder mechanically. SC2 is faster paced.
BW has harder army movement and coordination. SC2 has more split second micro.
BW builds are harder to execute. SC2 builds are easier to punish if scouted, therefore mindgames are a lot more important.
BW has more multitasking. SC2 is more punishing.
etc etc etc
Both games are fucking hard. Both games are fucking amazing.
One is the mother of E-sports, the other is the current king of it in terms of skill ceiling and blows other games out of the water. Both are Starcraft.
>One is the mother of E-sports, the other is the current king of it in terms of skill ceiling and blows other games out of the water.
But that is all broodwar, so what is sc2 then?
