this is true though...

its not all because of microsoft though.

intel doesn't want to make drivers for "old" operating systems, so microsoft cant certify something that isnt there... thus no support.

You make it sound as if there's anything more to PC gaming other than selling CPUs, GPUs, and ancient console ports.

Plus MS/Windows has controlled the PC gaming market for quite some time. Once the Xbox came out, they dropped it like a hot potato.
>>
>>324453136
Windows users are just acting like they're the only thing that exists as usual. This is just the fact that Windows 7 is a legacy platform past its mainstream support date catching up to the Windows-only crowd. All new hardware will still be supported on Linux.

The recommended way to run Windows now is as the guest in a virtual machine hosted on Linux now anyway. Its the only solution that allows you to guarantee that there is no data leakage.

Kill? No, Linux is now turning into a nice gaming platform. They could however rob us of years of progress in the PC gaming space. Microsoft is a console company first when it comes to gaming. Never forget that.

As it is now if you want to keep using a desktop version of Windows you're stuck not just with outdated APIs but also with obsolete hardware. Long term that means that we're heading into a rough transition period where learning to use compatibility layers or virtual machines will be essentially required for PC gaming.

The upside to all this? Linux is a niche platform and Microsoft's attempts to kill PC gaming will bring it out of the mainstream and we'll return to a golden age of only enthusiasts playing PC games.

I upgraded from 7 to 10 just recently. The features, UI and speed is well worth the jump. I used a tool to turn off all of the invasive shit. Anyways, I can't go back to old ass OS after this. It's just way too good.

All this means is Microsoft won't officially support those CPUs. It doesn't mean the CPU companies themselves can't provide support or that other OSes are locked out of using those CPUs. If that were the case Microsoft would get shit on by antitrust lawsuits again.

>>324455407
Nobody is forced to upgrade just because Microsoft doesn't officially support an OS, it just means they won't put out official bug fixes for it anymore.

So let's get this straight.

This is news published today on only one website, and products have been sold for 6 months. Is that to imply that nothing was sold and everything was returned within the first months or that there are more negative consumer reviews than positive for such products?

Nobody ever mentions that Intel actually does their own CPU driver updates, and not Microsoft? The fact if a product that relied on microsoft operation systems would just make Intel and Microsoft loose instant billions.

This is why I don't read blogs son.
>>

Apparently AMD is doing the same thing

I fucking called this, though. I fucking knew that if MS didn't get the upgrade numbers they wanted through the ads and shit, they'd just shrug, say 'Fuck it' and force us to.

I'm still on a 3570K Ivy Bridge and it's running fine.

Literally the only thing stopping me from going full Linux is the game support. If it had that, I'd be over in a fucking heartbeat.

Who here is even going to buy Skylake early, if at all?

If you buy a chip right now, are you going to install Windows XP?

Most Skylake early adopters are already running Windows 10.1 - everyone else will be asking if they "should buy Skylake now or wait for the new ones coming out" years from now. At that point, they will all be using Windows 10 too.
>>
>>324455685
Its not AMD doing it. Microsoft has decided that since 7 is in its security fixes only phase of support that means no new CPU hardware features. This shouldn't really be surprising though, Windows 7 has CPU performance bugs with AMD's bulldozer hardware that have never been properly addressed, there was no way they were going to add support for Zen.

CPUs are more fundamental to the system. AMD can't fix this on their own without Microsoft's cooperation, but their only interest is making people buy Surface tablets.
>>
I like this virtual machine thing that one anon was speaking of. Microsoft finally pushed me over the edge this year. I don't want to use it anymore. I too recently switched to Windows 10. The fast and familiar interface coupled with that boost in performance meant I just couldn't say no! It's even designed to work with the hardware and software I already own. Recent, brilliant innovations like Cortana and Microsoft Edge complete this amazing package.

The most astonishing part is it was all FREE! I couldn't believe it!

I take each step into the future confident that Microsoft has my back. I can't wait to see all the great things I can do With Windows 10!

Have you used virtualization software recently? Unless you have a shitty Intel system that doesn't support the features required there's basically 0 performance penalties. Only limitation is you have to pass through your graphics card but you can run multiple guest OSes in that virtual machine so basically you have your gaming stuff isolated and you don't have to reboot.

Well, you're half right, but you should be running Linux in the virtual machine and using PuTTY to get in, not the other way around. This way you get the versatility of the Linux platform together with the stability and advanced power management features of a professional OS like Windows 10. Alternatively, you could buy a MBP. :^)
>>
>>324457217
Its better than 7 for sure, but when it comes to Windows 10 you cant really compare them because you have 50/50 chance of getting a working OS when you install Windows 10.

>>
>>324457559
Allowing Windows direct hardware access means that you have no control over what it does with that hardware. You really don't want Windows 10 having access to the outside world without oversight.
>>
>>324457114
>there's basically 0 performance penalties.
That's almost impossible considering you're emulating an entire system on top of another system.

You'll probably need a new system. I'm planning to build a Zen/Fury system later this year, though by that point we may have an equivalent to Gallium Nine for DX11 software and/or a lot more native Linux games which might make running a virtual environment overkill.

For Windows users who don't know, Gallium Nine is a thing for running old DX9 software better on Linux than on modern Windows.

No you're not. You're virtualizing it, not emulating. You aren't having to emulate an x86 cpu, you're already running it on one, and with GPU passthrough you have full speed graphics card access.

How can Microsoft force this? All of their corporate customers have volume licenses with downgrade rights. Intel and AMD can still release drivers for Windows 7 if they wanted to. The only thing I can think of is driver signing.

Microsoft has seriously shaken up how driver signing works starting with Windows 10. The only way to sign any new driver in a way that Windows 10 will accept is to upload it to Microsoft over the web and have them cross-sign it along with your original signature. It used to be that as long as you had a certificate which came from a root CA that was cross-signed by Microsoft then you could sign it yourself and Windows would accept it as valid.

Now Windows 10 checks the time stamp on the driver and if the time stamp is earlier than July 29th, 20015 (the date Windows 10 was released) then Windows 10 will accept the old cross-signed root CA. If its after that date then only drivers that are directly signed my Microsoft are accepted as valid by the OS.

So how does this affect Windows 7? Windows 7 will accept certificates with either SHA1 or SHA2 (aka SHA256) for USER MODE signature check (aka .exe and .dll files.) For kernel mode drivers, Windows 7 will only accept SHA1 certificates. So all it takes is for Microsoft to stop providing SHA1 hashes via their driver signing website and then you instantly lock out any new kernel mode binary from being able to load on both Windows 7 and Windows 10. That doesn't prevent someone that still has an old SHA1 code signing certificate from using it to sign Windows 7 only drivers. But most of those certificates are expiring in the next year or two, if they haven't expired already. Intel/AMD/etc could probably release drivers for maybe 1 more silicon generation before their old certificates expire and they lose the ability to release Windows 7 drivers without submitting them to Microsoft for approval.

Basically Microsoft is using code signing to create planned obsolescence for Windows 7.

It's not a problem really. They're not going to push this stuff forward until we start seeing consoles adapt this technology. They've kinda screwed the pooch throwing them up too early. So I get the feeling even middleground hardware will be able to handle most of the stuff coming out for at least another three years. At least processor-wise.

At that point Windows 10 should be in a usable state and upgrading will come with the territory.

Exactly my point when I said basically similar.

Something with a straightforward GUI, folders to store crap, internet browsers to while away hours on facebook and the ability to play video games on it. Hell, throw in video and music production and that's basically 99% of what people use computers for. How hard could it possibly be?

You can't say there is competition that does these things and then point out reasons neither of them are viable at all.

It's a problem with WPF, which is something that Windows 10 uses entirely. It's a UI system that is written in XML, basically. Microsoft has been forcing it as a standard for years, by making sure C++ or anything else using MFS is incompatible with Windows 8/10. That way they forced C# to be the future industry standard, because it's the only viable programming languange you can now use for Windows. WPF is unfortunately pretty fucking bad and the webm displays this, basically what's happening is that the controls weren't made for resizing that much because it was majorly designed for tablets who don't need a responsive UI. So some controls just stay where they are while others are being dragged.

No. It was dead in 2005.

Dead as a doornail. Up until 2010, PC was an afterthought in everything, assuming it even got ports. Look at all the games getting PC releases from that time suddenly.

Just because PC gaming had a few gems in the rough since everything else was so shit, doesn't mean it was healthy. Dreamcast also had good games. WiiU also has good games. Are they healthy? Fuck no.

PC golden age is still ongoing and it's going strong. AMD stopped being shit. Games are upping the ante in the graphics department, PC is getting almost immediate support and is seen as a gaming platform, it's being sponsored and backed by multiple strong companies, games are being developed with PC in mind. Hell, for the first time in... Ever, the jap market reaches it's hand to PC.

Disgaea on PC? Metal Gear? Final Fantasy? Castlevania? Valkyrie Chronicles? Platinum games? Holy hell.

Everytime I do 7fags just deny it and post some shoddy Russian benchmark they cherry picked off google images.

W8 gave minor performance improvements in several games and W10 improves further, WDDM2.0 has made open-world games like GTAV and TW3 run noticibly smoother on mid-high end machines.

It's not by much, still less than 10fps and usually more like 2~ average fps but it's enough to make it seem dumb to go back to 7 after all these years.

Hello there,
The angel from my nightmare,
The shadow in the background of the morgue.
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley.
We can live like Jack and Sally
If we want.
Where you can always find me
And we'll have Halloween on Christmas.
And in the night we'll wish this never ends,
We'll wish this never ends.
Where are you?
And I'm so sorry.
I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight.
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time.
And as I stared I counted
The webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides.
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason.
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight?
Stop this pain tonight.
Don't waste your time on me.
You're already the voice inside my head.

.

Not only that, but you have to give up your ability to run older pc games and apps well, too. It's already a pain in the ass to run some older pc games in 7 relative to xp and it gets harder with every new version of windows. Why would 2 fps be worth it when 7 is the least bad middle ground?

are you implying it's not?
I could be an fanboy and lie about "W10 IS SO GOOD I GOT LIKE 20+FPS IN STAR CITIZEN" but that's beneath me.
You're getting performance with no cost of new hardware, people already pay an extra $50~ for that GPU that's just a tiny bit better as it is, even if the performance doesn't scale that much.
Marginal benefits are still benefits.
Just getting rid of the annoying micro-stutter I was experiencing in GTAV has made it satisfying for me alone, even forgetting the quality of life improvements W10 has.

7 isn't a middle-ground.
8 ran all the games 7 did and performed mildly better, so 8 is the middleground.
10 has run everything I've thrown at it, even obscure old jap porn games.
There are a few I've heard of that need wrappers, such as the original Abe's Odyssey, besides that it's solid.
GOG is officially supporting the OS too, so the library of old games you're going to hold on to is pretty secure.

you aren't too bright are you.
You're a sensationalist following other sensationalists, typical.
MS's telemetry was debunked pretty heavily as harmless.
But I agree it's bullshit that they tried to force it on us.
It can be disabled pretty thoroughly though, and I even blacklisted them in my router just incase the botnet was too strong.

But if you are so paranoid that even a router blacklist won't stop it, why the fuck are you using windows?
If you use a closed, non-free OS how the fuck do you know they aren't spying on you already?
And for another thing, Steam is already using telemetry to monitor your behaviour, even if you aren't playing a game.
Really, go check the IPs your PC is accessing if you don't believe me, Valve has several that I've been blocking that aren't related to steam community, updates, steam's games or any other benefit to myself.

But really, just trust the clickbait articles and the memes and don't question your beloved W7 or Steam.

Corporations will NOT let this shit fly.

Google, IBM, etc.

China will not like, etc.

Money talks. Microsoft will backpedal when everyone says fuck off to Windows 10 when it comes to even close to trying to replace Win 7 in their Enterprise environments.

Also, if you DO have to switch to Windows 10 guys?

Install the _Enterprise_N edition! WHAT'S THAT? The N means no frills edition (look it up, removes a lot of MS bullshit), and Enterprise will eventually remove all the telemetry bullshit that MS put in it (because again, those corporations are bitching hardcore and refusing to update).

So when it comes time to upgrade? I'll be fine, I'll pirate the Enterprise N edition.

I can certainly see an advantage in it. The OS overhead is much less than in Win7, so games can run better. Other than that, I'm not noticing much of a difference beyond some cosmetic stuff.

If you actually READ the article you posted you would have read
>By default Windows 10 Home is allowed to control your bandwidth usage, install any software it wants whenever it wants (without providing detailed information on what these updates do), display ads in the Start Menu (currently it has been limited to app advertisements), send your hardware details and any changes you make to Microsoft and even log your browser history and keystrokes which the Windows End User Licence Agreement (EULA) states you allow Microsoft to use for analysis.
It links to the data
http://arstechnica.co.uk/information-technology/2015/08/even-when-told-not-to-windows-10-just-cant-stop-talking-to-microsoft/
which just talks about Cortana's process connecting to MS even if it's disabled.

If you're not a retard you'd know you can remove Cortana completely, in fact even just deleting the .exe stops it from launching after reboot, Windows isn't smart about fixing this easy workaround.

You would also know that the shitty telemetry it's doing as detailed in the article can be simply blocked. Either through an IP blocking list on your PC or better yet your router.

Also using Window 10 Home is fucking stupid.

Yeah no, you're getting spied on. You're browsing 4chan right now, you probably go on twitch, use google, use youtube etc. You have a profile and your information is being tracked. Unless you literally use linux and run through a bunch of proxies you can't hide.

I made my friend's PC a few months ago with a skylake CPU. For some reason I couldn't get W7 to run on it. Shit was weird. Like it started up but then had a disc read error or something.
I gave up and tried W10 and it worked right away.

Maybe it happens depending on the MOBO and CPU. I don't know.
But I can confirm it didn't work for my friend's skylake cpu. And I am too dumb/lazy to find a work around.

this is retarded reasoning.
How come with W10 firewall isn't enough for the botnet but somehow wit W7 it is?
It's a closed operating system, you don't know what they're doing with your machine.

I'm sure comcast respects your rights and your firewall permissions when they get off the phone with the NSA
>>
>>324469468
I don't really care if they know what I view on twitch or youtube. I use alternative search engines rather than google.
>>
>>324469030
The problem is that they're good people, it's just that they strongly believe in the whole "If you're not guilty you should have nothing to hide" bullshit.

But yeah, I don't know maybe you're right regardless
>>
>>324469681
If you don't care about that then why do you care about windows 10 because it's literally no different.
>>
>>324469752
Because files you have on your PC are a lot more personal than knowing I watched Northernlion HeeEEEYYY EVERYBODY his way through The Binding of Isaac 4 years ago

Well we all know nothing can stop the National Stasi Administration. We're just trying to stop corporate spying.
>>
>>324465934
this is neo-/v/ anon, if the best game ever was indie and/or had retro graphics neo-/v/ would call it shit
>>
>>324469876
They already track that shit though, if you download a torrent it's tracked, save a picture you can guarantee that information is cached on a server and also in your browser information, you just have the illusion of it being safer even though they already know what you're doing. It's the reality of the times we're in, if you aren't fapping to illegal shit then you shouldn't even care.
>>
>>324469951
MS is one of the first companies to work with the NSA. If they want to corporate spy, they can justify it with natural security interests for special treatment.

Which they get in spades.

>I don't have anything to hide!
then why care about W10?
See how this all sounds hypcritical?
The argument "you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide" is used to rob us of freedoms and privacy.
It's the whole reason why people are scared of W10, because it measures useless data like how you like to use the start menu and how many times you ask Cortana to get Pizza Hut in order to profile you, most likely for marketing purposes.
People don't like this because a harmless invasion of privacy is still invasion of privacy.
e.g I don't want strangers looking into my back yard, even though it's not like I hang around my back yard naked.

Twitch and Youtube is used to measure and profile you just as much, youtube is a part of google and twitch is a part of Amazon.
Google and Amazon are the two biggest offenders at profiling users silently for marketing purposes, they care that you watched that video even if you don't.

Also I hope that google alternative isn't Duckduckgo, they were revealed to send user search data to Amazon too.
>>
>>324466135
those programs that cover the entire fucking screen and can't be changed size are fucking mobile shit cancer
fuck why did they made W10 instead of just updating W8? it's almost the same

>save a picture you can guarantee that information is cached on a server and also in your browser information,
You're telling me 4chin saves a record of every image I download off here with my browser footprint? Really? I barely download pics off any other website but 4chan

what shit programs are those
you mean the ones that come with the OS that only retards use? wow strong argument against windows
>>
>>324470183
Anon, my point is, the things I have to hide aren't what vids I watch on Youtube or Twitch.
>>
>>324469876
The telemetry W10 does isn't actually even for your local files, it's your behaviour.
They use it to improve the OS's usability and market to users.

Also you're not anonymous when you download files, even if you jump through hoops using VPNs, TOR, HTTPS, etc.
There's always a trail.
>>
>>324470325
But who has the trail? A ton of silly companies depending on what websites the files were downloaded off of and the like. Not MACROSOFT, THE BIGGEST DICK IN THE ROOM.
>>
>>324470227
It's all saved in an archive, you know that right, I can search old posts in an archive. You're internet footprint lasts a long time, it doesn't take a lot of data to cache a bit of information or assign an IP to an archive that could contain illegal content. You're being very hypocritical, you're being tracked now and you realize that and somehow you defend one tracking system over another, there's literally no way to not get tracked these days unless you take extreme measures. The reality is I don't give a fuck if microsoft and google know I fapped to a certain pornstar, I don't give a shit if they know if I accessed a specific program 100 times in a week, they pretty much already know that. The thing is i'm not important and you aren't either, nobody gives a single fuck who you are or what you do, you aren't a special snowflake, these companies are literally just trying to build a profile for you so they can target advertisements towards you.
>>
>>324470303
https://grepular.com/DuckDuckGo_Searches_Are_Not_Anonymous
DDGO apologized but I would not trust them, the owner is also pretty shady.
>>324470324
Your porn?
Put it in an encrypted volume, I do it anyway just so I don't have to sweat when someone wants to use my desktop to try what their PS4 hasn't got.
W10 doesn't search your actual files, it uses telemetry to profile you.
>>
>>324470428
ISPs, Google, Amazon, russian nobody, it's all the same if you actually have something to hide.
>>

Anon, 4chan archives don't save a record of what pics you downloaded off a page, they just save the pics you upload to the page.
>>
>>324470573
Pretty sure google won't have it if you don't use their search engine to get there and block their google+ and social integration bullshit that is in almost every site now, although they may get you with captcha for 4chan posts.

>>324470494
>problem has been fixed over five years ago
wew lad
>>
>>324470727
There is a digital footprint of it though, the authorities can access it if they want, 4chan servers aren't constantly flashed. Again, literally nobody gives a fuck about you. If you're actually fine with being tracked in literally every way except the way windows 10 does it you're a fucking idiot.
>>
>>324470494
How can they profile you without knowledge of your files? They know that I put my mouse over a link for 3 seconds longer than the average human so my brain processing speed must be 3 seconds slower than the average human or something?
>>
>tfw have loli folder literally 2 clicks away from desktop for almost 3 years, and still nobody has found out, and W10
i'm pretty lucky to not be in jail desu
>>
>>324470727
your ISP knows what pics you saved, anything with access to your browser temp files or cache also knows.
>>324470810
you are really under-estimating google if you think only google owned sites like G+ and youtube are the problem.
Google analytics is one of the infamous ones but it goes deeper.
>>324470841
>trust me, I'm a duck!
no thanks.
>>324470901
They profile user behavior.
Anything you do though Cortana, anything to do with Skype or Onedrive or Outlook or your MS account, etc.

The whole "I'm watching you fap" thing came from PhotoDNA, which isn't even part of Windows 10.
People saw "Microsoft PhotoDNA" and assumed W10 looks through your pictures, without even reading what it is.
It's a service MS developed for other companies so they could identify CP on their servers based on the hash.
>>
>>324470901
They dont need knowledge of what's on your computer to know you used Cortana only 5 times this month
>>
>>324470850
Your OS is a very private thing, anon, it is like a part of your body. It's like MS is looking at my ponos.
>>
>>324470915
contrary to memes W10 doesn't look through, identify and send data of your images to MS (that is unless you literally upload them to Onedrive)
>>
>>324471119
If you're browsing porn online they already know what you're fapping to, you sound like an in denial pedophile
>>
>>324471070

>They dont need knowledge of what's on your computer to know you used Cortana only 5 times this month

But I don't use Cortana, Skype, Onedrive, Outlook or have an MS account...
>>
>>324471246
then you're probably fine, and any telemetry they send (assuming you don't block traffic) is that you don't use those things and maybe that you favour regular applications over apps, etc.
>>
>>324471160
good thing i'm not that retarded
but some anon on /b/ once shared a link to CP in Onedrive if i remember correctly, probably in jail now
