Have you upgraded yet /v/?
What, you want me to believe Linux distros devs are now on suicide watch or something? You know, I'm convinced that Unity, Unreal Engine, etc will drop their cross platform support for this shit as well.
Could the Windows monopoly kill PC gaming? I know it's possible but is it likely to happen? More than anything I want a different OS to play games on that Devs will actually develop for.
this is true though...
its not all because of microsoft though.
intel doesn't want to make drivers for "old" operating systems, so microsoft cant certify something that isnt there... thus no support.
Not going to upgrade still the end microshill and if by that time I'll need W10, I'll make sure to use an offline pirated version.
You make it sound as if there's anything more to PC gaming other than selling CPUs, GPUs, and ancient console ports.
Plus MS/Windows has controlled the PC gaming market for quite some time. Once the Xbox came out, they dropped it like a hot potato.
Windows users are just acting like they're the only thing that exists as usual. This is just the fact that Windows 7 is a legacy platform past its mainstream support date catching up to the Windows-only crowd. All new hardware will still be supported on Linux.
The recommended way to run Windows now is as the guest in a virtual machine hosted on Linux now anyway. Its the only solution that allows you to guarantee that there is no data leakage.
was looking to upgrade to skylake, new a new case to go with this, anything I should change?
Kill? No, Linux is now turning into a nice gaming platform. They could however rob us of years of progress in the PC gaming space. Microsoft is a console company first when it comes to gaming. Never forget that.
As it is now if you want to keep using a desktop version of Windows you're stuck not just with outdated APIs but also with obsolete hardware. Long term that means that we're heading into a rough transition period where learning to use compatibility layers or virtual machines will be essentially required for PC gaming.
The upside to all this? Linux is a niche platform and Microsoft's attempts to kill PC gaming will bring it out of the mainstream and we'll return to a golden age of only enthusiasts playing PC games.
>Microsoft forcing people to upgrade to a botnet OS
Nope. Not upgrading to that botnet mess of an OS which is Windows 10. I'm sticking with 7 until they remove the botnet bullshit from 10.
I upgraded from 7 to 10 just recently. The features, UI and speed is well worth the jump. I used a tool to turn off all of the invasive shit. Anyways, I can't go back to old ass OS after this. It's just way too good.
>Linux for gaming
>AMD with drivers
We're heading into a brave new world.
>forcing you to use terrible shit in the name of progress
I think this might fail.
Actually, why is there no serious commercial competition to windows? Someone who isn't a faggot would only need to design a basically similar operating system and not pull gay shit like this all the time and they could clean up.
All this means is Microsoft won't officially support those CPUs. It doesn't mean the CPU companies themselves can't provide support or that other OSes are locked out of using those CPUs. If that were the case Microsoft would get shit on by antitrust lawsuits again.
Nobody is forced to upgrade just because Microsoft doesn't officially support an OS, it just means they won't put out official bug fixes for it anymore.
So let's get this straight.
This is news published today on only one website, and products have been sold for 6 months. Is that to imply that nothing was sold and everything was returned within the first months or that there are more negative consumer reviews than positive for such products?
Nobody ever mentions that Intel actually does their own CPU driver updates, and not Microsoft? The fact if a product that relied on microsoft operation systems would just make Intel and Microsoft loose instant billions.
This is why I don't read blogs son.
Apparently AMD is doing the same thing
I fucking called this, though. I fucking knew that if MS didn't get the upgrade numbers they wanted through the ads and shit, they'd just shrug, say 'Fuck it' and force us to.
I'm still on a 3570K Ivy Bridge and it's running fine.
Literally the only thing stopping me from going full Linux is the game support. If it had that, I'd be over in a fucking heartbeat.
Who here is even going to buy Skylake early, if at all?
If you buy a chip right now, are you going to install Windows XP?
Most Skylake early adopters are already running Windows 10.1 - everyone else will be asking if they "should buy Skylake now or wait for the new ones coming out" years from now. At that point, they will all be using Windows 10 too.
Its not AMD doing it. Microsoft has decided that since 7 is in its security fixes only phase of support that means no new CPU hardware features. This shouldn't really be surprising though, Windows 7 has CPU performance bugs with AMD's bulldozer hardware that have never been properly addressed, there was no way they were going to add support for Zen.
CPUs are more fundamental to the system. AMD can't fix this on their own without Microsoft's cooperation, but their only interest is making people buy Surface tablets.
I like this virtual machine thing that one anon was speaking of. Microsoft finally pushed me over the edge this year. I don't want to use it anymore. And since the gaming industry sorta sucks right now. I don't think I'll be giving much up. (if it turns out that I have a limited selection). Has anyone else here recently switched?
For those of you who are gonna upgrade dont get the new apps and features stay with the default shit you got when asked, I rushed through the installation last year and it fucked me up, I've unistalled them tho
>upgrading to Windows 10 for old console scraps
>literally c'ucking yourself when MS will c'uck you again and keep all the other Gears Xbox exclusive
>The recommended way to run Windows now is as the guest in a virtual machine hosted on Linux now anyway. Its the only solution that allows you to guarantee that there is no data leakage.
That sounds unbelievable awful to live with and impossible to do anything substantial with.
>install windows 10
>turn off monitoring
i dont see the problem here?
I too recently switched to Windows 10. The fast and familiar interface coupled with that boost in performance meant I just couldn't say no! It's even designed to work with the hardware and software I already own. Recent, brilliant innovations like Cortana and Microsoft Edge complete this amazing package.
The most astonishing part is it was all FREE! I couldn't believe it!
I take each step into the future confident that Microsoft has my back. I can't wait to see all the great things I can do With Windows 10!
Personally, I love the fact that we have a direct line to MS servers we can shitpost in. Someone is bound to read this shit.
Have you used virtualization software recently? Unless you have a shitty Intel system that doesn't support the features required there's basically 0 performance penalties. Only limitation is you have to pass through your graphics card but you can run multiple guest OSes in that virtual machine so basically you have your gaming stuff isolated and you don't have to reboot.
Jokes on you, i'm doing it for Halo Wars 2 as well.
Gears holds some of the fondest memories of my adolescence. I know it won't be the same as it was back then, but I have to try.
Well, you're half right, but you should be running Linux in the virtual machine and using PuTTY to get in, not the other way around. This way you get the versatility of the Linux platform together with the stability and advanced power management features of a professional OS like Windows 10. Alternatively, you could buy a MBP. :^)
Is it worth running a Linux distro - I'm thinking the latest version of Mint - and run a virtual Windows 7 to play my games?
Only hassle is I'm pretty sure neither my laptop CPU or my old 3570K is great for virtualisation. Thoughts?
Allowing Windows direct hardware access means that you have no control over what it does with that hardware. You really don't want Windows 10 having access to the outside world without oversight.
>there's basically 0 performance penalties.
That's almost impossible considering you're emulating an entire system on top of another system.
>Only limitation is you have to pass through your graphics card but you can run multiple guest OSes in that virtual machine so basically you have your gaming stuff isolated and you don't have to reboot.
Yeah that doesn't sound fiddly, dodgy or annoying at all
You'll probably need a new system. I'm planning to build a Zen/Fury system later this year, though by that point we may have an equivalent to Gallium Nine for DX11 software and/or a lot more native Linux games which might make running a virtual environment overkill.
For Windows users who don't know, Gallium Nine is a thing for running old DX9 software better on Linux than on modern Windows.
>For current PC owners, the detail to note is that Intel's current, sixth generation processors, known as Skylake, are the first that won't support either of the older versions of Windows. (Intel and Microsoft say that the platform and Windows 10 were designed for each other.) Microsoft is phasing in the policy now.
then what does this mean then?
>The upside to all this?
>Microsoft's attempts to kill PC gaming will bring it out of the mainstream and we'll
>return to a golden age of only enthusiasts playing PC games
As if some of you faggots aren't cancerous to hell and back already.
>CPUs will now have OS DRM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO ONE IS MENTIONING THIS, THEY ARE SIDE TRACKED ABOUT WINDOWS 10 BEING BAD MEME.
CPUS NOW REQUIRE AND WILL ONLY ACCEPT CERTAIN OPERATING SYSTEM, THIS IS THE ENDDDDD MY ONLY FRIEND THE ENDDDDD
>windows 10 has 99% market share, gets updated over and over again instead of making windows 11
>windows7 users are living in the underground sewers, needing to use relays and hacks to mask their operating system as a windows10 machine on the internet or else the government tracks them down
>there's an entire hidden city somewhere under the ground like in matrix where windows7 users gather to work out new fixes making new programs run under win7 with 20 year old hardware
> emulating an entire system
No you're not. You're virtualizing it, not emulating. You aren't having to emulate an x86 cpu, you're already running it on one, and with GPU passthrough you have full speed graphics card access.
Its a lot less annoying than having an OS that you have no ability to upgrade the hardware on.
Problem is you can't "really" turn it off, those options are just placebo
>Haven't done serious gaming on PC since Battlefield 2142 was relevant.
>Friends offline and the internet make me feel awful gaming in 2014 on consoles.
>Get [email protected] meme spit at me constantly.
>Get the "hahah no mods" meme spit at me constantly.
>PClard friends hound me for months to upgrade my old rig and stop playing console games like a pleb.
>Cave to the internet and friends, buy a good PC for 2015.
>Windows 10 for DX12 and performance boosts.
>PC gaming is nothing but console ports, greenlight, and indies.
>Friends only want to play CS:GO and DOTA 2 shit.
>Slightly upset owner of a $1600 indie game machine.
>People saying 2015 was this console cycle's best year for gaming since they came out.
>mfw I can't go back to being happily ignorant on consoles because I got addicted to memes visuals and resolutions on buggy ports.
PC discussion threads kind of depress me.
>settings not turned off in group policy
Anon, W10 is being used in corporate shit where shit like this doesn't fly. This is an old gif. Use the aforementioned software listed above then make a new gif.
Except you can, record the same thing after you use spybot anti-beacon and see what happens, stop posting trash from ages ago that were made by a /g/ lincuck user.
Also the retard that made that probably didn't opt-out of everything when installing the OS, he went with express settings.
>inb4 le shill
Fuck no. Never.
I am going to pray for a miracle and hope that SteamOS shapes up a lot fucking better than it is and people take to it.
I don't play on PC much anymore. I prefer handhelds or WiiU with friends.
And what's your favorite Linux distro?
Linux is a system kernel.
SteamOS is Operating System Distribution comprised mainly of GNU software.
>taskbar on top
anybody know how to set windows 10 theme to classic like this???
>tfw i don't do anything illegal so i don't care about microsoft knowing what i jerk off to or what vidya i play
How can Microsoft force this? All of their corporate customers have volume licenses with downgrade rights. Intel and AMD can still release drivers for Windows 7 if they wanted to. The only thing I can think of is driver signing.
Microsoft has seriously shaken up how driver signing works starting with Windows 10. The only way to sign any new driver in a way that Windows 10 will accept is to upload it to Microsoft over the web and have them cross-sign it along with your original signature. It used to be that as long as you had a certificate which came from a root CA that was cross-signed by Microsoft then you could sign it yourself and Windows would accept it as valid.
Now Windows 10 checks the time stamp on the driver and if the time stamp is earlier than July 29th, 20015 (the date Windows 10 was released) then Windows 10 will accept the old cross-signed root CA. If its after that date then only drivers that are directly signed my Microsoft are accepted as valid by the OS.
So how does this affect Windows 7? Windows 7 will accept certificates with either SHA1 or SHA2 (aka SHA256) for USER MODE signature check (aka .exe and .dll files.) For kernel mode drivers, Windows 7 will only accept SHA1 certificates. So all it takes is for Microsoft to stop providing SHA1 hashes via their driver signing website and then you instantly lock out any new kernel mode binary from being able to load on both Windows 7 and Windows 10. That doesn't prevent someone that still has an old SHA1 code signing certificate from using it to sign Windows 7 only drivers. But most of those certificates are expiring in the next year or two, if they haven't expired already. Intel/AMD/etc could probably release drivers for maybe 1 more silicon generation before their old certificates expire and they lose the ability to release Windows 7 drivers without submitting them to Microsoft for approval.
Basically Microsoft is using code signing to create planned obsolescence for Windows 7.
Anymore I just use Ubuntu Gnome because it has the interface that I like and the most compatibility with games. Plus with the Padoka PPA its fairly trivial to get an AMD driver that actually works.
Could MS use this to essentially make Windows a walled garden for drivers where no one can make any drivers without MS' permission? Or is this already basically what Win10 is like?
You have no idea what you are talking about.
they can take my internet, they can censor my media, they can control my news, but they will never, NEVER take away my memes
good thing there aren't any new video games worth playing
>rest of world will just take it in the ass as usual
>won't be able to open files in new versions of office, so goodbye to being able to view school assignments
>tfw your memes are popular on facebook, twitter and reddit. They get diluted and spit back here.
They did something entirely far worse to your memes.
They told normies about them.
>If today's surveillance level had existed in the 1950s and 60s, homosexuality would still be illegal and homosexual people would be criminals by birth.
Is this supposed to be an argument against surveillance?
It's not a problem really. They're not going to push this stuff forward until we start seeing consoles adapt this technology. They've kinda screwed the pooch throwing them up too early. So I get the feeling even middleground hardware will be able to handle most of the stuff coming out for at least another three years. At least processor-wise.
At that point Windows 10 should be in a usable state and upgrading will come with the territory.
>HURR FUCK THE FAGGOTS AM I RIGHT?
We still don't know shit about Zen aside from the fact it's not Bulldozer based, so it could very well end up being the same as Skylake/Cabylake regarding Win7/8 support not being a priority.
> golden age
As if. More like the end times. Without thr normie crowd, PC gaming will fall back to the obscurity of 2005. It will be only shitty MMO's and MOBAs.
I don't like the Steam monopoly, but we need Gaben to step in and block Microsoft's fuckery. SteamOS has to succeed, it will be the gateway to Linux. I swear if Vulkan fails PC gaming's dead .
If you mean the telemetry stuff, go read the Windows 10 general on /g/, they detail how to block all that shit and offer a download to the Enterprise edition so you don't have automatic updates you can't disable.
>MS will do anything to push Win10
>literally even installing DRM on CPUs
>EXCEPT for bringing over their heavy hitter Xbox games to PC, and not just ancient ass console ports
I don't fucking understand Microsoft. It's not like the Xbone is actually successful.
>One good but outdated OS
>One fuckfest and failure of an OS
>One new and up-to-date OS
>Have to update/support old OS-es because people still use them even tho they made a new one
I mean, if I was the b0ss of Microsoft I'd do the same, throw everything away and focus on one project.
I literally thought this was satire until I looked up the article and read it. Even still it sounds like the author was forced to write it, and he decided to give it that ridiculous title to point out how retarded the story is.
Why the fuck do you think I mean purchasing it?
Read the fucking thread. Follow the links. The end.
You realize neither AMD or Intel are pulling this shit, right? Microsoft is refusing to write the software to support the features present in their newest CPUs in older, still supported versions of windows.
Why bother if I don't use it for games
I have absolutely no reason to upgrade to W10, I don't need any of what it offers and I am in no way dissatisfied with W8 at all. It's what I'm used to and I just don't see a need to do anything about it. Why should I? Is there any real solid reason why I should?
>It's not like the Xbone is actually successful.
Do you think kids nowadays are going over to each others houses and playing hoop on a fucking stick? No, they play Xbox. It's about as common as a DVD player by now, hell it IS some people's DVD player.
Big barbarian bubble butt is unrelated
They just cater to normies. Normies want to "keep up" with their Xbone community on Windows. No one else gives a fuck. You need to look at their decisions through a normie's eyes and they make more sense
We have. It's called OSX, and it's overpriced shit.
And the linux scene can't get over it's autism and necessity to make everything nitty gritty. You literally cannot escape the command line.
Windows outreaches it's hand to everyone. The competition does none of that. Also Windows has the most program compability and drivers. You literally cannot migrate your desktop experience without relying on shit like Wine. Every tutorial out there is geared for Windows. Every forum, every tip, every program for doing some stupid shit, Windows.
How can you compete in a market where all information is geared towards your competitor?
It takes no effort at all to push an update that IDs hashes of a ton of pirated content and then slams on the delete cmd for all of it. I'm surprised they haven't done it yet.
They have removed software before.>>324462764 Just wait till Trump/Hillary passes some law that outlaws all illegal software that MS has to comply with and they wipe everything from your drives. Good luck. We 1984 now.
>Windows outreaches it's hand to everyone.
I have upgraded actually. Don't get me wrong though, i upgraded because i had win8 so i figured that no upgrade could be worse and so i did it. I cant say im having any problem with win10 and for me it works like a charm.
95% of DOS games aren't even hardware-accelerated, any GPU that supports VESA will do fine. The real trouble is finding a modern mobo that has an ISA slot or that can properly handle IRQs and shit necessary for DOS games.
>Windows outreaches it's hand to everyone. The competition does none of that
Exactly my point when I said basically similar.
Something with a straightforward GUI, folders to store crap, internet browsers to while away hours on facebook and the ability to play video games on it. Hell, throw in video and music production and that's basically 99% of what people use computers for. How hard could it possibly be?
You can't say there is competition that does these things and then point out reasons neither of them are viable at all.
It's a problem with WPF, which is something that Windows 10 uses entirely. It's a UI system that is written in XML, basically. Microsoft has been forcing it as a standard for years, by making sure C++ or anything else using MFS is incompatible with Windows 8/10. That way they forced C# to be the future industry standard, because it's the only viable programming languange you can now use for Windows. WPF is unfortunately pretty fucking bad and the webm displays this, basically what's happening is that the controls weren't made for resizing that much because it was majorly designed for tablets who don't need a responsive UI. So some controls just stay where they are while others are being dragged.
>In Microsoft's defence, the company has long made it clear that Windows 10 updates are mandatory for Home users, and that it would also remove software that it considered "dangerous".
HAHAHAHAHAAH OHOLY SHIT
Speccy and CPU-Z are fucking "DANGEROUS" software? Are you fucking kidding me MS?
>Microsoft is focusing on Xbox
>hurr durr, you guys are making Windows, why aren't you pushing it as main gaming platform
>/g/ points out that there is free alternative that can become great independent gaming platform with a bit of effort put into it and some publicity
>hurr durr, nogaems, enjoy your indieshit, I can't think for more than 5 minutes ahead therefore I see no practical benefits of Linux being popular gaming platform
It's like army of valvedrones only uses GabeN as meme, but when dude makes good suggestion about how gaming platform should work, he gets ignored completely.
I know, it's mostly Valve's fault when it comes to shit hardware selection (awful price/performance ratio), but I expected /v/ to be at least somewhat enthusiastic about SteamOS
The PS4 only has a 15 million unit lead and that gap has been slowly closing over the last 2 years by the end of this gen it will most likely be almost even.
The same thing happened last gen with the PS3/360. At the start of the gen The Wii and 360 completely destroyed the PS3 but by the end the PS3 actually out sold the 360 by 1 million units. Neither came close to the Wii but thats not really the point.
That's a nice cat m8, can i save it?
So then when I get the money to finally build my serious gaming machine, I'll just throw together the most cutting edge shit that was out before they went all "10 ONLY"
the newest game I'm playing on PC is FFXIV, I don't give a shit about "new" "AAA" games.
>Thinking /v/ still has the same love affair with Valve.
You been gone a while? GabeN is basically a fallen hero here and loathed. Steam is a joke and gets you laughed at by GoGfags and anything made by valve has a dozen memes attached to it at least.
How the hell can anyone be excited for SteamOS with Valve behind the wheel?
Watch /g/, this is gonna be a news article in 5 years
>Microsoft remotely disables all copies of Windows 7 and 8 and gives a complimentary upgrade to Windows 10
>mfw several people have already been arrested for just having lolicon on their harddrives
T-Thanks microsoft. At least google only reports it if you share it via email.
> not pirating wangblows
I've got pirated Win7 and Win8.1, and they were both giving me the OK to upgrade to a legit copy of 10.
It's only a matter of time until 10 is fully cracked anyway, if it isn't already.
> tfw a cracked Windows 10 will be a godsend as all phone-homes would be disabled
>there are people here who don't pirate windows
Thats because its all fear mongering by retards who didnt bother to read carefully and allowed win10 to snoop on their shit even though you have the option for the most part to stop them form doing so. And even if win10 did send out your data what makes you think cops are going to show up? Why do you think pirating is a thing, leterally no police force in the world cares unless you've got some seriously fucked up shit tha is def illegal
That's because it's a long juristic process at your authorities, they could raid you in two years because of it.
Unless you're in the US, lolicon is perfectly legal there. But in the rest of the world it's the equivalent of real child pornography.
Because the old OSes do not behave in ways that the CPU expects and the CPU is not designed in such a way that the old OSes expect. Try installing Windows 98 or 95 on your modern PC. Just try it. What do you think will happen? Do you actually think it will work?
Honestly I actually have no idea, it's just that the xbox is a console that I've had more interactions with than anything. And I don't mean that as I had an xbox all my life, it's just that when I was younger nobody really had Playstation stuff in their homes, it was always Xbox. The people that DID have Playstations were the kind of people that only bought sports games and strictly that. It's just a matter of perspective I guess
Microsoft is moving Windows over to the subscription model.
Before too long you are going to have to manually download cracked updates and patches every week or run a vulnerable and buggy pirated Windows 10.
Those aren't really games or media though. It's going to be hard for them to outright remove media, since proving that it's pirated isn't as easy as it sounds.
You'd have to have a license for fucking everything if that were the case, which is impossible for older games and software.
I already have W10 and have no problems with it. Save for the fact that Steam BP mode doesn't work properly and I can't figure out why the fucking Xbox button is connected to an app that I have DISABLED FUCKER LET ME USE THE CONTROLLER
Modern CPU features like multiple cores, new instruction sets, SpeedStep, etc. can cause all sorts of hell on an old OS, or the old OS will ignore the new CPU features. Newer OSes can make use of the new features allowing the CPU to be optimally used.
What the fuck are you talking about lol
>Try installing Windows 98 or 95 on your modern PC. Just try it.
It works, albeit of course it will not recognize the amount of RAM because it's a 32bit system.
The only real issue you have is that you will not be able to find drivers.
Except i didnt say that at all. I said the people who are complaining about privacy are the ones too stupid to deactivate the ""features"" that enable this privacy breach. Why do you think the anon i replied to hasnt gotten in trouble yet other fags say people got arrested for loli con? Because some people were too dense to read what was on their screen
>Unless you're in the US, lolicon is perfectly legal there.
It actually depends on the state. In most of them it's a gray area, but I think there's a couple where it's definitely illegal and a couple where it's probably legal.
No. It was dead in 2005.
Dead as a doornail. Up until 2010, PC was an afterthought in everything, assuming it even got ports. Look at all the games getting PC releases from that time suddenly.
Just because PC gaming had a few gems in the rough since everything else was so shit, doesn't mean it was healthy. Dreamcast also had good games. WiiU also has good games. Are they healthy? Fuck no.
PC golden age is still ongoing and it's going strong. AMD stopped being shit. Games are upping the ante in the graphics department, PC is getting almost immediate support and is seen as a gaming platform, it's being sponsored and backed by multiple strong companies, games are being developed with PC in mind. Hell, for the first time in... Ever, the jap market reaches it's hand to PC.
Disgaea on PC? Metal Gear? Final Fantasy? Castlevania? Valkyrie Chronicles? Platinum games? Holy hell.
You can just google it, there are thousands of cases and even Interpol uses it to fuel their international witch hunt
I have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.
I've done the legit upgrade on my laptop, because that had a legit 8.1 pre-installed. But I'm happy sticking with my pirated 8.1 on my media and gaming PCs.
>And even if win10 did send out your data what makes you think cops are going to show up? Why do you think pirating is a thing, leterally no police force in the world cares unless you've got some seriously fucked up shit tha is def illegal
>PC golden age is still ongoing and it's going strong
>Games are upping the ante in the graphics department
People like you are the reason we get disappointments like Star Wars Battlefront
i used to really care about all this stuff. i was really worried about all my pirated vidya and stuff becoming obsolete overnight, and i championed linux and other things because of that.
then i graduated college, got a good job, and had disposable income so i could just buy my vidya and buy windows and buy everything i used to pirate in the past becuase i was a poorfag college kid. i now realize that none of this stuff really matters to me. i was just angsty because i wasn't going to be able to continue poorfagging my way through life.
that still doesnt support what you said. If you read carefully you would tell that im saying no police ever would care that you have drawings of little girls getting fucked or a video of a dude stapling his balls or whatever videos you have. No police force is ever going to waste money on capturing a dude with shady videos that would still be considered legal.
The statement was always that you can't install it on modern hardware, not that you can't emulate it on modern hardware. By install I literally mean pop a Win98 CD into your drive and try to install it.
>If you read carefully you would tell that im saying no police ever would care that you have drawings of little girls getting fucked or a video of a dude stapling his balls or whatever videos you have. No police force is ever going to waste money on capturing a dude with shady videos that would still be considered legal.
>I can predict what happens 5 years down the road
>They have don't have such a police force
>They won't have the thought police in the future
Naive as fuck thinking.
>By install I literally mean pop a Win98 CD into your drive and try to install it.
Which the person in the video clearly did without problems.
Why do you try so hard? Does this somehow get you mad that you otherwise can't justify having CPU's locked to OS'?
Who would have thought that a curry nigger didn't know that no means no
this isn't true.
Only OEM versions of windows 10 are.
So if you were a retard who had his W7/8 PC built for him, then upgrading the MOBO fucks you over.
If you weren't retarded you have a full version of W10 which can be transferred to different hardware configurations.
This includes people who bought W8 when it was only $15.
The first step is establishing a global network of monitoring before you start enforcing anything. All that shows is they have the capabilities to do so because if they don't do it today, they definitely won't do it in the future.
>what is pirating?
why do you think you didnt get arrested for pirating? because its such a petty crime that no one will go after you, the most that will happen is you getting a notification from your ISP and even that isnt as common as you'd think. Trust me man, no one is going to spend tax payer money to capture a guy with drawings of little girls.
>why do you think you didnt get arrested for pirating?
>This isn't happening now means it won't happen in the future
Like I said, Orwell worst nightmare is people like you that cede their rights.
>Have KMS Pre-Activated Windows 8.1
>Decide to upgrade to 10
>Everything goes smoothly
>Opt-out of everything when installing
>Turn everything off in Privacy Settings
>Disable Windows Defender in GPEDIT
>Disable Windows Update in Services and then activate it manually when I want to update
>Uninstall all pre-installed bloat "apps"
>Use spybot anti-beacon to disable botnet leftovers
>Get the same shit OS that Windows 7 was
>Everything works as good as it did on Windows 7
>Install Windows 7
>Everything works as good as it did on Windows 7
All I'm saying is they won't implement subscription into the OS. Windows hasn't been their cash cow for a while now, they want the piece of the app revenue pie. Subscription would be suicide.
So you're whole argument is basically that it MIGHT happen in the future, so what are the odds that i MIGHT not be ok with that happening in the future. I'm saying win10 does snoop in your shit and youre not going to get arrested, sure anything MIGHT happen but that applies to everything that its not even a legit criticism anymore. Why shower when showering MIGHT become unacceptable in the future? Why buy food now when someone MIGHT give you food later for free? and so on, you get the point
Vista was so terrible for gaming. I had nothing but problem after fucking endless problem from it.
XP Pro was fucking phenomenal for gaming.
Windows 7 is amazing for gaming, while I read nothing but problem after fucking endless problem from Windows 10 users.
Windows 10 is the fucking console port of operating systems. It is literally a smart phone/tablet operating system that has been shovelwared and shoehorned onto PC's.
Why the fuck can't you make an operating system that is deigned around video games as a top priority, with jerking off to trap porn as a close secondary option?
Huh Microsoft? Do you fucking hate video games?
Think about the companies name.
It is literally the Kuck of corporations.
this would be fine if it weren't for the fact that 7 is way behind in terms of performance.
Seems stupid to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a gaming PC and then limiting your performance by choosing an OS that your anonymous internet friends think is cooler.
Are you fucking retarded? By letting them snoop in all your stuff now, it gives them power to access your stuff for illegal stuff in the future. Or are you fucking retarded that you cannot see the link?
>valve just wants to line their pockets and haven't released anything decent since LFD2
>blizzard just release casual shit with the intention of milking the playerbase dry before moving on to their next release
>microsoft shoving their botnet OS down everyones throat
>nvidia actively sabotaging amd and their own customers
>amd CPUs are shit so intel can charge out the ass for 10% performance increases
>piracy is a crapshoot and you need to check every torrent for miners/malware
>shitty f2p games are all the rage
>early access garbage where devs have no intention of finishing their games
>AAA releases are usually buggy as fuck
>there's only 2-3 games worth playing every year
where did it all go so wrong
To avoid the 2km of command line arguments you can get GUI frontend for qemu.
It should work fine from USB.
I find VirtualBox easier to use, if you don't mind Oracle pissing in your Stallman-approved 100% free OS build.
W7fags are literally consolefags though.
Almost every one of them are delusional fanboys who just take whatever they hear on faith rather than actually having an understanding of the system on any technical level.
Except i never said it was good to get snooped on. my original argument was that only retards who didnt disable all the spyware shit are getting snooped on and "arrested" for having loli con. When some anon asked me why he wasnt arrsted i told him because he actually read what the settings meant. I dont know how this Orwellian shit got involved through that.
I'll keep looking on ddg. I've found some, but they come off as hieroglyphics sometimes. /flt/ will sometimes bite your head off for not having 20 years of FOSS contributions.
are you really going to make me bring out the Toms Hardware and Anandtech links again?
Everytime I do 7fags just deny it and post some shoddy Russian benchmark they cherry picked off google images.
W8 gave minor performance improvements in several games and W10 improves further, WDDM2.0 has made open-world games like GTAV and TW3 run noticibly smoother on mid-high end machines.
It's not by much, still less than 10fps and usually more like 2~ average fps but it's enough to make it seem dumb to go back to 7 after all these years.
W7fags are basically the same people who still use utorrent and VLC, they just stick with what they're used because that's all they know.
>He actually thinks MS will allow you to just buy an OS once and keep installing it on every PC you own
Shit, why doesn't everyone just give away their Win7 key to everyone? I mean just say you own all those PCs. Come on, anon, think.
This thread is now /g/ embassy.

The angel from my nightmare,
The shadow in the background of the morgue.
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley.
We can live like Jack and Sally
If we want.
Where you can always find me
And we'll have Halloween on Christmas.
And in the night we'll wish this never ends,
We'll wish this never ends.
Where are you?
And I'm so sorry.
I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight.
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time.
And as I stared I counted
The webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides.
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason.
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight?
Stop this pain tonight.
Don't waste your time on me.
You're already the voice inside my head.
Not only that, but you have to give up your ability to run older pc games and apps well, too. It's already a pain in the ass to run some older pc games in 7 relative to xp and it gets harder with every new version of windows. Why would 2 fps be worth it when 7 is the least bad middle ground?
are you implying it's not?
I could be an fanboy and lie about "W10 IS SO GOOD I GOT LIKE 20+FPS IN STAR CITIZEN" but that's beneath me.
You're getting performance with no cost of new hardware, people already pay an extra $50~ for that GPU that's just a tiny bit better as it is, even if the performance doesn't scale that much.
Marginal benefits are still benefits.
Just getting rid of the annoying micro-stutter I was experiencing in GTAV has made it satisfying for me alone, even forgetting the quality of life improvements W10 has.
7 isn't a middle-ground.
8 ran all the games 7 did and performed mildly better, so 8 is the middleground.
10 has run everything I've thrown at it, even obscure old jap porn games.
There are a few I've heard of that need wrappers, such as the original Abe's Odyssey, besides that it's solid.
GOG is officially supporting the OS too, so the library of old games you're going to hold on to is pretty secure.
Alright guys, my love of vidya has trumped my burning hatred for Microsoft thus far but no more. Switching over to linux and playing all my vidya through a vm from now on in guest mode. MS needs to fade into irrelevancy and their fucking popups can go with them.
Not him, but swap to Linux.
Linux game library is growing by the year, as is virtualisation stability and performance. Any games that I want to play that aren't on Linux can be virtualised. No wukkas.
Good for you, but most everyone else out there has done at least one or two things that could get them into serious trouble if the authorities knew about it. The growth of the surveillance state is a bad thing and needs to be opposed by anyone who values civil liberties.
go fuck yourself 7tard.
You literally just disregarded my post to do you shill meme.
You did not have a point, you gave a 6 word sarcastic response.
There is no deal, you don't have to give Microshit anything and you get a tiny performance boost.
If you're paranoid you can literally block all of their servers from your router.
The truth is people like you are just fixated on that shitty glossy 2007 aesthetic because it makes you feel safe.
>Constantly be paranoid for MS spying on you
>Constantly have to worry about shit like http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/11/02/microsoft-confirms-unstoppable-windows-10-tracking/#2715e4857a0b6d14edec2f4a
ALL FOR WHAT? 2 FPS?
why wouldn't you wait for pascael? the last 4 years have been stagnant as shit with p.c tech, the only games i'm missing out on with my 2012 gaming laptop (lenovo y580) is i won't be able to play doom 4 or witcher 3.
I was lowballing it because you fags always lose your shit over this fact.
Also no, why would you expect W8 to be literally exactly between W7 and 10 in terms of performance on every game?
It doesn't just linearly scale, the performance increases in W8 and 10 are based on actual improvements.
Want a more significant benchmark?
now call me out for cherrypicking.
No it just wont have all the updates which are 95% useless anyway. They said the skylake cpus will only get critical updates.
I haven't updated in a longg time anyway due to all the win10 update notification shit anyway.
Skylake offers jack fucking shit over anything Haswell or higher. Literal cuck if you buy one.
No, dude, shit like Blade of Severance is gonna give you trouble if you run anything after xp, and the trouble magnifies the newer your OS is. Fuck, even Crysis will give you shit in 8. I am actively going back and playing lots of these older games I missed out on and I'm not going to opt for even more of a hassle than 7 can give you.
you mean the botched game that shat on Nvidia's older cards? Or the one AMD exposed as gimping their cards? Sounds legit bro.
I definitely trust your benchmarking instead of one like this http://www.techspot.com/review/1042-windows-10-vs-windows-8-vs-windows-7/page6.html where they test it across multiple games
Cool. Encourage the hackers to make kernel-level mods to Windows so I won't have to worry about botnet/activation/adsourcing ever again
>posting a Forbes article
you aren't too bright are you.
You're a sensationalist following other sensationalists, typical.
MS's telemetry was debunked pretty heavily as harmless.
But I agree it's bullshit that they tried to force it on us.
It can be disabled pretty thoroughly though, and I even blacklisted them in my router just incase the botnet was too strong.
But if you are so paranoid that even a router blacklist won't stop it, why the fuck are you using windows?
If you use a closed, non-free OS how the fuck do you know they aren't spying on you already?
And for another thing, Steam is already using telemetry to monitor your behaviour, even if you aren't playing a game.
Really, go check the IPs your PC is accessing if you don't believe me, Valve has several that I've been blocking that aren't related to steam community, updates, steam's games or any other benefit to myself.
But really, just trust the clickbait articles and the memes and don't question your beloved W7 or Steam.
Corporations will NOT let this shit fly.
Google, IBM, etc.
China will not like, etc.
Money talks. Microsoft will backpedal when everyone says fuck off to Windows 10 when it comes to even close to trying to replace Win 7 in their Enterprise environments.
Also, if you DO have to switch to Windows 10 guys?
Install the _Enterprise_N edition! WHAT'S THAT? The N means no frills edition (look it up, removes a lot of MS bullshit), and Enterprise will eventually remove all the telemetry bullshit that MS put in it (because again, those corporations are bitching hardcore and refusing to update).
So when it comes time to upgrade? I'll be fine, I'll pirate the Enterprise N edition.
Im also sure this probably violates some sort of anti-trust laws as well, on the government level, whether it be the USA or EU.
I upgraded from Win7 over the weekend. I've yet to properly all the stuff that calls home to Microsoft and such. But I'll get to that soon enough.
I can certainly see an advantage in it. The OS overhead is much less than in Win7, so games can run better. Other than that, I'm not noticing much of a difference beyond some cosmetic stuff.
>Microsoft cares about your CP and loli you don't distribute with other people
>Microsoft cares about your pirated vidya folders
Even if you get cucked into W10, I still don't understand why this is a problem. More companies use Telemetry on you daily without you knowing it than Windows could ever hope to by itself. More than half you fucks probably use a Windows with the telemetry updates on it right now.
>Don't trust Forbes
>This is his argument
>Who would have thought that a curry nigger didn't know that no means no
>Live in Australia, Data retention plan is active
>Use Google Chrome because Firefox gets really weird with plugins and hogs abnormal amounts of RAM for some reason
>No intention to ever use TOR, 90% sure it's illegal to have exit-nodes in Australia, 90% sure that if anyone found out I was using TOR people would call me a pedophile and a junkie
Is there any reason I shouldn't update to Windows 10? I'm already 100% fucked botnet-wise anyhow
Does it get much worse if I upgrade?
>More companies use Telemetry on you daily without you knowing it
No, I'm sorry, that's wrong, fuck off kike.
I also run NoScript and randomize my computer spec headers to websites.
Fucking please, I'm not a Chrome using w10 faggot like you.
>>>Use Google Chrome because Firefox gets really weird with plugins and hogs abnormal amounts of RAM for some reason
>you mean the botched game that shat on Nvidia's older cards?
even The Witcher 3 did that, Nvidia is just a shit.
Also yes those benches are in favour of W10, however I would consider checking Tom's Hardware and Anantech as well.
Trusting any one benchmarker is just cherrypicking.
fuck off memers.
Forbes turned to shit.
If you actually READ the article you posted you would have read
>By default Windows 10 Home is allowed to control your bandwidth usage, install any software it wants whenever it wants (without providing detailed information on what these updates do), display ads in the Start Menu (currently it has been limited to app advertisements), send your hardware details and any changes you make to Microsoft and even log your browser history and keystrokes which the Windows End User Licence Agreement (EULA) states you allow Microsoft to use for analysis.
It links to the data
which just talks about Cortana's process connecting to MS even if it's disabled.
If you're not a retard you'd know you can remove Cortana completely, in fact even just deleting the .exe stops it from launching after reboot, Windows isn't smart about fixing this easy workaround.
You would also know that the shitty telemetry it's doing as detailed in the article can be simply blocked. Either through an IP blocking list on your PC or better yet your router.
Also using Window 10 Home is fucking stupid.
Once you strip away the memes it's very obvious you guys are ignorant.
You can disable it in the settings, but it doesn't completely disable it. You need to either edit the hosts file yourself, or download a program that does it for you.
I think there might be a program that does it on Bleeping Computer.
why the fuck would you trust Forbes?
you literally didn't even read the article and you trust them.
if you are using steam, they are using telemetry right now on your PC without you knowing it.
you even agreed to it in the EULA.
There's 3 reasons I haven't upgraded yet, and I don't know the status of these issues since I haven't looked into them.
>No AppLocale, so I can play JP games
>Excessive spying on personal information boogeyman
>App style start menu instead of the simple and aesthetically pleasing one from 7
This is all the reasoning I don't upgrade yet. Has all of this been fixed yet?
