I just don't have fun playing Smash.
Every single god damn time one of my friends comes over all he fucking wants to do is play Smash. He refuses to play any other of the real fighting games I have. And whenever I have multiple friends over I have to prepare to be bored for the next couple hours because all they want to do is play Smash.
There is no consequence for winning or losing in Smash, no mistakes are yours and none of it is real. In Street Fighter you lose when your HP reaches 0, in Smash you lose when... I don't fucking know. You lose when you are at 60%, you lose when you're at 600%, you lose when you accidentally suicide off the stage. There is no character in any real fighting game that can "suicide" except maybe like 1 character in one specific other fighting game.
You are correct, smash is more random. Try to get them into psabr its way better from a fighting gsme standpoint
>There is no character in any real fighting game that can "suicide" except maybe like 1 character in one specific other fighting game.
Every character in Soul Calibur
Every character in Virtua Fighter
Deadpool in Marvel vs Capcom 3
Yoshimitsu in Tekken
Shin in Hokuto no Ken
Faust in Guilty Gear
I have this exact experience about any other fighting game except smash. Most people i play in other fighting gamed would just mash all the buttons constantly in hope of using some crazy combo or something
Man I remember I used to think I was a great melee player until I attended a tournament.
>Guy playing sheik
>gets knocked off stage
>literally like 1 centimeter away from death
>somefuckinghow he made it back to stage
>won the game
I literally left after I saw that.
>There is no consequence for winning or losing in Smash, no mistakes are yours and none of it is real. In Street Fighter you lose when your HP reaches 0, in Smash you lose when... I don't fucking know.
You lose when you cross the blast zones
I realize you are only saying this because you suck at smash OP but lets be honest, would you have more fun getting utterly destroyed with zero chance of fighting back in a real fighting game or have a decent chance to get lucky with an item or whatever in smash?
Go pick up MVC2 or 3 and try to play it. You will get demolished for months against anyone that has played before.
Pick up USF4 and scrub out 200 losses before you figure out some mixups.
Smash is an easy to pick up "fighting game" in comparison to anything else. If you don't like it start playing something else.
> making fun of input handholding
> prefers a game with no real inputs
> abusing a fucked up physics/game engine to go fast
> NO ITEMS FINAL DESTINATION ONLY
> Fun or interestinf
Then why do you own the fucking game you retarded asshat? Throw the shit in the garbage and drink their casual tears when they find out you got rid of it. Then drop them and find new friends. Or grow up and get a job, kid.
Higher skill ceiling? Nigga wut? Yeah okay, maybe for autismos like you. You try reacting to 1 frame set ups/traps. Or learning how to do actual complicated combo set ups kid. "Press a and hold for a few seconds" is not a combo, or a skill.
>"Press a and hold for a few seconds"
How the fuck is that a combo in melee. The GCN has no negative edge btw.
>character does 1 jab
Wow, a great combo you fucking retard.
Is a basic combo for Ragna in BlazBlue. Are you telling me, that with the needed height and correct timing, this is less skill than a forward smash while jumping you autistic fox fucking piece of dogshit?
I could list you a Melee combo, but you wouldn't understand neither the terminology nor the concept of how combos in smash are not guaranteed and are DI-dependant which requires instant player reaction at every single step, unlike in most fighting games where only getting the confirm matters and fucking up is up only to the player (outside of burst and combo-breakers).
What an autistic son of a bitch. If you don't know jackshit about what you're talking about don't even try.
>using fucking BB as an example
I'm saying that the game just lets you get out of being "combod" easy as fuck. You can just float away pretty much every single time excluding the one time as one character at one percentage you can't.
> I could list a combo
> But I won't because.. uh.. FUCK YOU THERE ARE COMBOS MUH DI REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Whatever loser, play a real mans game. And are you implying BlazBlue isn't one of the most popular ACTUAL fighting games in the world? Get some skill son.
>Melee has a higher skill ceiling than USFIV
>NO THAT'S NOT TRUE, LOOK AT BLAZBLUE
I prefer GG to be honest, familia.
And yes the melee does have combos.
We are going through the definition of "consecutive attacks connected while the other player is in hitstun", yes?
I know, thought of a Bread and butter for the original BB, came to mind faster than one in BBCPE. but the equivilent in Overdrive would be; (OD) 22C > A+B > 5C > 5D(1) > 632146D > 623D >> 236C >> 214D > j.214B >> 214D > jc (j.C) > j.214C > 5C > 5D > 214D > 6D > delay j.D > j.214D > 214214D if I'm not mistaken.
>game is riddle with 1 frame commands with no buffer whatsoever
>what execution or timing
>fucking MASHING in melee, something used for literally nothing
Why shitpost about a game you know nothing about.
I don't pretend to be a pro on games I know jackshit about.
the most simplistic, entry level combo for ness
however, depending on the situation, it is up to the player to in an instant decide to cut that combo short or extend it or change it
ive hit a 4th f-air and got an instant KO, then recovered back tot he stage. probably one of my most proud ness moments
>however, depending on the situation, it is up to the player to in an instant decide to cut that combo short or extend it or change it
Yes, because going back to OPs point, it is completely fucking random what kinda shit your combo will do and how people will react to it. Will the combo knock out? Will they not? Who fucking knows.
The thing is that none of them are guaranteed outside very low %.
But if you want me to paint an example I can list one. This all implies that the player is succesfully reading all of the DI and reacting in time to it.
Marth on Falco.
Grab>Uthrow>Grab>Uthrow>Utilt>Grab>Uthrow>Dash Attack(sourspot)>Back Air (sourspot)>Back Air (sourspot)>F-smash
I'm leaving out the movement inputs, all the possible needed extra inputs like JC Grabs, pivots, waves, and stage awareness. The hardest part of the game is reacting to the DI.
I guess you could say that even after a combo started, the other player can always escape.
This doesn't even account for more advanced forms of DI, like SDI, ASDI, Amsah teching for survival, SDI into stage tech, and other things.
But why am I even bothering, family.
goddamn op! you made this thread because you knew these autistic smashfags would start shit flinging didnt you?
why on earth would you be proud of that? literally all ness fags do is what you just listed and its braindead easy.
and that brings back >>324350918 's point of melee having a higher skill ceiling than traditional fighters (also to >>324356457) because melee requires more player attention and reaction rather than memorizing combos and punching them in
The only things that really bother me about Smash are the way hit/blockstun works, and the way hitboxes interact. Being able to attack/grab instantly through a blocked attack just makes blocking stupidly low risk, and as for hitboxes it seems like a player on the ground is just given complete priority against someone in the air, regardless of attack timing.
>all these people arguing about combos as if they are what makes fighters hard
Holy fuck this thread is casual. Getting the muscle memory for a combo takes an hour max unless you're retarded.
Yeah, that's one of the things that has allowed melee to live so long.
Genesis 3 just ended today and people saw new shit being pulled off. The "sandbox" nature is what people like about it.
I still, despise being a huge fan of melee myself, don't consider it a fighting game and think the discussion is retarded.
Melee is too different to be considered one.
>nobody talking about neutral
Now, neutral is when the real game beings. Both smash and true fightan.
What good is it to spend 1000 hours in the lab grinding tech skill and memorized combos when you will never land a confirm with shitty fundamentals?
You know what, now that I'm watching some videos, this does seem to be a little more complicated and skilled than I believed previously. Maybe I was wrong. Is Genesis 3 a tourney? Is there recorded streams I can watch to see this higher skill ceiling?
Here's a stream archive of Genesis 3's Top 8 for Melee and Sm4sh on Twitch, /v/ thinks the link is spam so you'll have to go to twitch and paste that into the url
A real man wouldn't admit they were wrong, especially when you don't have to on a fucking internet online anonymous image board. You could have just nodded to yourself and stopped posted. You fucking gigantic pussy.
The top 8 was insane and they usually upload it later on.
However I think you can watch the matches on their previous streams.
t witch tv/showdownsmash/v/36120439
Grand Finals start on 3:50
That's just plain retarded.
I always thought fighting games where all about combo memorization until I made FGC friends through smash and was introduced to them.
Soul Calibur fucking surprised me with its vast amount of attacks. Not what the game seems like on its surface at all. People learn new things all the time.
I miss the old SC
2016 is only 3 weeks old and already melee is sporting more viewers outside evo then SF4 ever managed and melee is as fucking old as SF3 so no chance is hell SFV is gonna be able to keep up
Give in capcom shills you cannot stop the immortal train
the combo wasn't one of my proudest moments
the 4 f-airs out of the combo on a new stock for an instant kill then recovering was one of my best. idk if its not that impressive and just lucky, but i haven't seen it done anywhere else before
>I miss the old SC
I miss SC in general.
When the fuck are we getting a new SC with a new, stupid guest character to get hyped about?
Doesn't even need a story mode- just a proper arcade mode
>fightan is just memorizing combos
What are fundementals you fucking sod.
Memorizing that 10 hit combo is worth Jackshit if you can't get in.
Reminds me of this
Smash is fucking minuscule in prize pools compared to SFV.
How do you think it feels to get literally NOTHING from Nintendo when SF always gets like 50k pot bonuses from Capcom?
I love smash, but I hate that Nintendo pretty much hates the competitive scene.
git gud and then you will have fun
The melee community has survived on its own for soon to be 15 fucking years after being rejected by MLG and EVO and even fucking nintendo
I dont give two asses how much money capcom has to shit into their community for it to be stable without it the FGC would be thrown back to medieval times. Melee will fucking survive on its own because its a awesome fucking game and a awesome fucking community
Yeah I'm trying to convince them to give it a shot. Hopefully they will, but I'm not holding my breath.
My buddy who's really into Smash complains that tilts are too hard, so you know.
It's a form of movement reversal which lets the Fox turn around in the air while keeping his momentum. This lets him use his back aerial which has more reach and power than his forward aerial.
Fox is running towards the ledge and wants to hit the other guy with his back air attack. so he needs to be facing away from him
you can't turn around in midair in Melee. you also can't turn around while running in Melee
but you can jump, and shoot a laser backwards, which turns you around.
run > jump > shoot laser backwards > slide off edge of stage > midair jump > back aerial attack
Ryu in Smash 4 is pretty fun.
I was actually surprised when they made Ryu have more attacks than any other character just so he could have L M H attacks.
And adding negative edge to the GCN controller? Something Smash should have add since the beginning.
I hate that only Ryu has that.
can we just go full webm discussion thread
Ah, I see. Thanks guys. I guess Armada was doing something similar with Preach's turnips?
I kinda understand him because I have trouble with tilts but that's my execution that needs work.
Yeah, Peach can use the turnips to turn around in the air.
Most characters can use some of their B-moves to turn around. A few can even turn around with other moves. Marth can use his back air to shift his facing direction.
I've played smash since I was a kid. When I got my PC the only options for Fightan were Skullgirls, an outdated version of Blazblue and GG, or SFIV. My friend hates SF so I only had one real option. That's just me though.
I actually tried to do that once, but there was a bunch of bullshit issues getting the ROMs or whatever they are called to work properly. God knows how much more difficult it would be to help my buddy set it up over skype when it took me an entire day to explain how to get a PS3 controller to work on his PC.
I don't even like fighting games but holy fuck you faggots saying Smash has a higher skill ceiling than other more dedicated ones. All the time I see this with Nintendo franchises, a desperate attempt to microanalyse everything and plumb for depth where none exists to make it seem more comlicated than it actually is, because anything else would be too hard for them beyond the simple control scheme and few moves it has.
Typically, if you got hit it means you made a mistake. It can be as simple as you using a move with a lot of recovery or as complex as allowing yourself to get forced into a situation where you can't avoid being hit.
