THIS IS KNUCKLES AND I'M BACK I'VE BEEN AWAY FOR AWHILE BUT I'M BACK TO KICK SOME BUTT AT WILD CANYON I SHALL FIND ALL THE LOST PIECES OF THE MASTER EMERALD HERE I'M GOING TO GET THOSE FOOLS THEY WANT TO PLAY WITH MY EMERALDS THEY'RE PLAYING WITH THE WRONG GUY
>>324348406 >Shadow >Good 3D platformer Did we play the same game anon? Because it was plagued with most of the same issues as Heroes control and camera wise. The platforming was next to nonexistent in most of the levels too, especially when it came to levels like Central City and the Ark levels
Oh yeah and >implying the werehog was anything like DMC I mean, hell, Shadow as a character is halfway to being either Dante or Bayo as it is. Might as well give them the gameplay to match the abilites they have.
>>324349030 No but it sounds like you havent played it at all. The best part of shadow was that it fixed how slippery heroes felt. There was barely any camera problems, the only sonic games with camera problems are the adventure games, everything else is a meme. Cosmic fall, circus park, sky troops, lethal highway, and digital circuit are just a few examples of good 3D platforming in the game
The werehog is much closer to dmc than shadow will ever be. Why are you being so obtuse
>>324349278 >everything else is a meme. >legitimate issues are a meme
Anyway, I probably spent the most time playing Shadow over the other Sonic games I had. So I know how terrible the controls were, the only thing they fixed were the framerate and the rail mechanics so you wouldn't fly off the edge so often like the prior games. The controls were still absolute ass whenever it got too fast.
I don't even think Cosmic Fall can be considered an actual platformer unless you go by the literal definition in the sense that 90% of the level you're just jumping down to the next platform. Lethal Highway for the most part is just a straight line because you have to follow the ship for the majority of the stage. Next to no platforming literal or otherwise. Even the poles were pointless because there was always a rocket to send you up to the top anyway. I suppose the novelty of that level comes from Sonic saying something out of character like "damn".
Sky Troops is for the most part okay until you realise that the only good platforming sections occur when you're in the walker and there's only like two in the stage.
Digital Circuit has some actual platforming, but again it's of the simple variety and the light-speed circuit had the most annoying sound effect known to man.
I think Circus Park is the only level that had decent enough platforming to be expected from a Sonic game.
>>324350594 There was no frame rate problems in heroes unless you were playing the sucker edition on ps2, but shitty ps2 ports was common because of how weak it was. Shadow actually had frame rate problems with explosions
All of those are wrong except maybe ill give lethal highway. There was like 3 other levels that had good platforming but i cant remember their name
This thread is a group of people united with one similarity. Having the worst taste in any kind of audal sensory experience I have ever had the misfortune to observe. It's bad enough to like video game music. But to like sonic music? Good god, you are all just emo teenagers. Cut some fucking music appreciation into your skin next time you listen to that irredeemable boyband that concocts the sonic themes.
>>324350594 Oh and another thing about Digital Circuit >Partnered with Rouge >have to take out the Gun Beetles to advance >Stop attacking our allies! Why not just place something that wouldn't cause that prompt?
>>324351013 Every version of Heroes had frame rate issues the PS2 version had it the worst though. Either way Shadow did impove on that even on the PS2 version during the main game.
>All of those are wrong except maybe ill give lethal highway. I'll bite, why are they wrong anon?
>>324351241 I raelly dont remember frame rate problems in heroes gamecube or the first half of xbox (never beat it on that)
Its wrong because you said they all have 3d platforming but its just not done in a way that you like. Its simple but at least its varied and there in 3D and controls well enough. I cant think of one good 3D platformer from 7th gen or 8th gen so far
>>324351370 Not bait. But I am very picky about music being actually good, I'll give you that. >>324351390 >/mu/ Worse than even sonic music. The only good music is classical, and the only great music piano pieces. Orchestral music is fine but meme tier. Strings are shit. But sonic fans are literally living music embryos.
>>324351518 >Its wrong because you said they all have 3d platforming but its just not done in a way that you like. They can barely called 3D platforming due to the overwhelming lack of it in the levels anon, not because they're done in a way I don't like.
> Its simple but at least its varied The only variation is in stage design hell if it weren't for the overly large gaps in Cosmic Fall you probably wouldn't have to jump at all to make it to the end.
>I cant think of one good 3D platformer from 7th gen or 8th gen so far That's because only Nintendo are actively making them nowadays. But Super Paper Mario, The Galaxy games and the 3D games all have good platforming. Or at the very least much better than Shadow the Shitshow because I just know you're going to get all picky about this.
>>324337694 >Why do the Sonic the Hedgehog games have such god-tier soundtracks? Honestly hasn't been a good soundtrack since Sonic Adventure. You wankers who like 21'st century Sonic music have the most shit taste.
>>324352143 Im not even surprised that youre a nintendrone. I knew in saying that it would lead you or anyone to bring up nintendo and mario. Mario galaxy has very little platforming and the 3D games are terrible fucking games with wide open spaces and no difficulty
The last game with good 3D platforming sections i can remember playing is sonic unleashed actually, the werehog, when youre not fighting, has some good moving platforms and grappling based 3D platforming and eggmanland was very difficult and full of surprises. Im sad how much sega is making sonic 2D now tbqh
>>324352529 >Im not even surprised that youre a nintendrone. This is what I meant about "getting all picky about this". You're trying to avoid actual discussion about the stages and the platforming elements by calling me a Nintendrone just because I listed the only decent 3D platformers to come out in the 7th and 8th gen, there's literally no other answer anyone can give to that question.
>Mario galaxy has very little platforming and the 3D games are terrible fucking games with wide open spaces and no difficulty And here you were trying to accuse me of not playing a game that said I'm only about 20 stars into Galaxy 1 but the game has already beaten the amount of platforming that was found within Shadow the Hedgehog by far especially since there are no redundant mechanics, all of them have a use unlike shadow's wall running which was solely there to look cool since you couldn't maintain the run without jumping to another wall.
> the werehog, when youre not fighting, has some good moving platforms and grappling based 3D platforming and eggmanland was very difficult and full of surprises. Talk about no difficulty, in both versions of the game the levels were just outright tedious than difficult. They stretched on way past the point a 3D platformer should, Eggmanland being the biggest culprit of this.
Also why would you want another 3D platformer Sonic? At their best they've been okay Generations almost got the 3D space platforming down but the Boosting games don't really have the physics to deal with that kind of movement. Sonic should really make a return to 3D instead of trying to master the impossible and translate it into 3D space while retaining the platforming. I mean, Lost World gave it a try but ultimately physics and extra gimmicks let it down again on both versions.
>>324354123 Fair point Sonic Generations Classic level design was ass and the only good Classic levels in the 3DS game were the ones that were ones that copied the Mega Drive games exactly.
That said I would miss the music. They've been the saving grace of the recent main Sonic games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdHliM2iXoE I tried learning this on bass once but I was really out of practice and couldn't keep up.
>>324353683 I really dont give a fuck what you think because i have a very specific set of standards for 3D platformers. A good amount of shadow stages had it. The fluddless levels in mario sunshine had it. Bowser castle levels in mario 64 had it. The werehog had it. Champion road, the only good level in the 3D games had it. Mario games are more about walking around than actually jumping and i notice this very very carefully so theyre by and large utter shit to me and am never touching another one after the travesty that was 3D world. There was to many gimmicks and spheres in galaxy, and mario controlled like a tank that lost all momentum when jumping but there was still a shred of decent levels in them so i beared with it. The last level in galaxy 1 in particular was really good and made up for all the shitty collecting coins, racing boos, stair hopping tier platforming, and waggling to watch mario fly through space.
98% of the platforming is done in 2D and the 3D sections, like silent forest and windy hill acts 1, have a few decent 3D sections but its mostly just a slowed down sonic that has neither speed, making it a thrilling spectacle to watch and play, or platforming that heroes and shadow had, making it a very cheap feeling game that again used 3D merely to remind the player that sonic can go fast (last seen in colors).
>>324354668 >I really dont give a fuck what you think because i have a very specific set of standards for 3D platformers. So, none? Also someone is a hypocrite, now you're berating these games with better platforming than the werehog and Shadow because they don't adhere to your own personal tastes in 3D platforming as opposed to what SHOULD be in a 3D platformer. And to think you were trying to accuse me of that here >>324351518 >Its wrong because you said they all have 3d platforming but its just not done in a way that you like.
>and mario controlled like a tank You might as well leave if you think that Mario controlled like a tank anon
>that lost all momentum when jumping Good thing Mario didn't really have any momentum to begin with in Galaxy.
You know, it would really benefit you, or rather me in this case, to actually talk about the games. I mean you're talking about the very base elements of each game that you could learn while in a single thread.
