How are the older games? I haven't played any of these games yet. I figure I should try the Trails series eventually, but I'm autistic or something and usually start a franchise from the beginning even if they have no story connection (I did that with Dragon Quest last year and I'm glad I did, it was a lot of fun). Though I'm willing to skip some games if need be. So how are the older games in the series? I've heard the remakes generally suck so I'll just play the original PC versions if I play them at all. Also, I've heard that the Steam/GoG version of Trails in the Sky is some remaster, though there's no Japanese version. Does it add much aside from somewhat nicer visuals? If not, then I'll probably just play the old version since I know I can buy a Japanese version. If it adds some significant things then I'll consider playing it if I can somehow mod Japanese text in.

I think the Sora FC and SC remakes are fine but the ost and art is different. I like the evo version more mostly because of 5x speed for combat.

Zero and Ao evo are good aside from ost changes in zero evo but the voice acting actually improve a lot of scenes so you should get the evo version if you can.

nope. it's even worse. not only do you have the book set that allows you to upgrade to ultimate weapon, it also has missable accessory sets that you have to buy at specific points or you lose another ultimate weapon upgrade. fishing and recipes give important rewards and they're mostly missable. talking to NPC's at school to fill the notes also give rewards. and there are hidden quests that require you to go to places you've been to but not required by the plot at the moment they can be triggered.

Something else you should keep in mind while playing is there's a trophy you can unlock for each character toward the end of the game (the dance event), but it requires a certain amount of link exp + another requirement for it to become available to you. For a first playthrough you probably want to focus your efforts on raising the link on maybe 3-4 characters, then carry your links over to NG+ and get the rest there.

you get to have Domination in chapter 6 so Rean can just end any battle in one Gale. having Machias also means that instead of focusing on one enemy, you can weaken many enemies and Machias can finish many with his AoE normal attack or even larger AoE craft. one quest would also give you a free weapon with attack power above what they sell in Roer so have Machias use that.

Personally, it's a little silly, but I really love Phantom Raid. The Ouroboros symbol shattering in the background is really meaningful and gives me a chill every time. Joshua's line is nice, too: "I will... run no more." It's all very cliche but also very heroic.

problem with Emma for Sen is that she is restricted and has to hide the truth. in Sen 2, there are just so many characters. and Falcom likes their Alisa no matter how irrelevant she is at the overall plot of things, unlike Emma who is a necessary character for the trial and awakening.
plus the Rean and Emma pair is a parallel to the boss combi of Crow and Vita.
I also don't think that it's a coincidence that the Azure Abyss helped Crow to awaken Ordine which is blue; while Valimar which is gray or silver is awakened by Rean with the help of Emma whose main element is mirage or silver. each Raiser has their corresponding knight god and witch

Powerlevel wise, out of the playable Crossbell cast sans Arios, who'd be strongest to weakest story wise?

Combat system is fun and fast, just play on hard if you want it to be challenging.

Also yes, you can make parties of 6 characters, with 2 in reserve who level up alongside the guys who fight. The rest of the characters that are not used are leveled up in the background, so no one really falls that behind.
