Fire Emblem was MADE to be the first Fire Emblem you play since it was the first one released in the west.

It's completely arguable which one of them is best but the gameplay is pretty much exactly the same in both, except Fire Emblem comes with a fucklong tutorial and is less complicated. Play that first.

Both are some of the easiest games in the series. Start with FE, play Sacred Stones if you liked it

Start with Fire Emblem. It's literally made to be the first one you play. The first arc of the game is a tutorial. Even if characters die in that section, they come back later to join you as Eliwood. That said, they're both great and if you like strategy RPGs, you'll probably like FE and buy SS later.

Sacred Stones is a better intro.

Advanced Wars sucks in comparison, the story and the units, meh. Advanced Wars gets mundane really quickly. I was obsessed with that game for about a month and then got bored and haven't picked it up since, except getting the second installment and getting bored within the first hour.

Never have tired of Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem is objectively better on all fronts.

Genealogy of the Holy War on SNES.

Both are great, Sacred Stones is a little more open because you can move around an overworld map, grind some levels if you want, and go to shops to buy things. I think it makes for a better entry point into the series for those reasons.

Speaking of FE, I'm playing Awakening right now. Just to be clear, all that children inheritance stuff is aimed for the PvP, isn't it? I can ignore all that altogether if I plan just to play the campaign, can't I?

FE6 is more of the same, but the RNG is more unforgiving (lower numbers have better odds and higher numbers had lower odds) so that might trip you up.

FE13 is still worth playing at least once. If you dive deep into FE you'll probably end up hating it, but you should at least hate it not just because some strangers on the internet told you to.

FE9 is pretty much all around great. FE10 has some noticeable flaws, but is still liked.

FE11 isn't great but is better than the original in every way. FE12 is better, but has some weird things that it added. Both of these are remakes.

FE2 is not worth playing.

FE4 is good if you really want to dive deep into unit individuality. No trading, everyone has their own gold pool, relationships where characters pass on weapons to their children. Not crazy difficult, but not the easiest. Crazy long maps and you can save and the beginning of every turn.

FE5 is the hardest and likes to fuck with you. Go for this one last if at all.

Every game after FE5, starting FE6 uses true hit, stop spreading misinformation. People speak as if FE6's is different because they miss more often, this only happens because all weapons that aren't swords, Fire and Excalibur have shitty hit rate and enemies actually have competent stats and Luck for dodging.
