Hi /v/ wondering if getting a 3ds is worth it. I had the original ds when it first came out and I stopped using it after ~5yrs of having it and never got back into handhelds. A lot of the games look really good but I want to hear your opinions. Don't have a Wii u and always liked Nintendo.
I see it generally for $150 for regular and $180 for xl. Is xl worth it? Also any good sites to buy this?
The games are stay a bit on the expensive side.
If you're a new buyer, it's either the 2DS or a "New" 3DS.
2DS if you're strapped on money.
N3DS if you want stuff to load moderately faster. Just note with the N3DS there's no charger that comes with it.
If you got young ones that pry over your shoulder, go with the N3DSXL.
>Is that something where Nintendo can patch it so it doesn't work? Would online still work?
eventually they'll patch it so you can't do it if you update to the latest firmware, but if you've already downgraded you're golden.
Once you've downgraded, you'll use an emunand. Nintendo can't tell the difference, and the emunand can upgrade or go online like normal
So you have to buy a charger as well?
I see it for $125 refurbished. That moderate? Also any sites worth checking other than like amazon or just going to my local vidya store?
Only for the N3DS. Ninty's logic is that everyone already has the original, so there's no point in adding it. In other words, they wanna Jew you even more.
You could also find one on craigslist with a charger for less.
The rest of the games I'm interested in are DS games or some shit. Like the Ace Attorney games and so forth. I kind of regret buying the New 3DS. I really just wish Vita didn't have jewy memory cards and more weeb games.
Idk, man. They both kinda suck in their own little ways to me. lol.
I know that people on here say that Vita has not games and 3DS has a shit ton, but I'm not sure I feel that way entirely. I don't really give a fuck about Mario, Zelda and the rest of the first parties. That may be what keeps me from fully liking the 3DS over the Vita, but there's also the graphics and using the stylus. With Monhon4, I like the game, but hate the controls. It just makes me wish for it to be on a console. Same with Xenoblade. I don't get that with the Vita unless the game is trying to utilize backpads. The memory cards are a jew from hell and back on the Vita, though. There's no excuse for it and it's really insulting to consumers. It's hard to look at the price of them and know that they have actually been CUT from what they used to be. Most of the Vita sales on games are digital (of-fucking-course), so you have to delete your games a lot unless you get a big card for a large chunk of money.
why would someone go out and buy a 3DS for GBA games if they have a computer, smartphone or tablet they could easily play them on?
Why would I buy a 3DS if I could buy a DS and a flashcart if I wanted to play GBA games?
Why are you so retarded?
3DS owner here
the "3DS has games" comes from the following titles:
>Pushmo, Crashmo & Stretchmo
There's Kid Icarus too but I am absolutely positive that it's just a meme because it has the worst controls of any rail shooter i've seen
People always post the thing where Sony CEO says that they aren't doing Vita games anymore or whatever. But that's only for FIRST party titles and AAA shit. Like, you'll still get weebshit, indies and maybe small budget first party. I like the weebshit, but I don't know any Japanese at all. So anything I get has to be localized or whatever. People also complain about "ports", but there are some of them that are ports from PSP. I never owned one, so that doesn't bother me. I also like having the option of playing something like Hotline Miami 2 on a mobile platform instead of console if I so choose. That's one thing with 3DS. If there is an indie game that I want that is coming out, I pretty well can *expect* (within reason) that it'll come out on Vita around the same time as the PS4. 3DS seems to get them a lot later or never.
>Why would I buy a 3DS if I could buy a DS and a flashcart if I wanted to play GBA games?
Well, I didn't know about chink spyware cards until later in having the NEW 3DS and I didn't think that I'd care more about DS games. Thought 3DS was going to have a bunch of games that I'd like coming out.
Not really into any of those except Monhon. Mario Kart was fun for a little while on Wii U. Never played the *mo's though.
Vita sucks mainly because of the memory cards and no recognizable games for the masses aside from ports. There's no advertising for the west other than websites.
3DS peaked when 2014 came. After that, nothing else that I cared for came to the system other than Mirai DX. Hacked the 2DS so I wouldn't deal with the region lock.
I was going to prove you wrong but the only big ticket game of 2015 was MH4U.
The rest of the releases were ports/remakes (Majora's Mask, Xenoblade), mobile freemium trash (Pokemon Shuffle, Jew Bunny Arcade) or shovelware (Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Codename Meme)
>mobile freemium trash (Pokemon Shuffle, Jew Bunny Arcade) or shovelware
Not the person you're talking to, but what the fuck is up with that? If I wanted to play that shit, then I'd just use my phone. Shit is garb.
>what's your reason
I like a lot of the games it has, even though some of them are ports (but really good ports, though). Not only that, but PS1 and PSP games are godlike on the Vita because of the customization options. It puts the 3DS to shame because Nintendo only has NES, GB/GBC and the Sega 3D Classics on the eShop and doesn't bother to put anything else on there. I don't hate the 3DS, but I feel it's pretty lacking compared to the DS. Most of Nintendo's output have been lazy sequels and remakes. Only thing I'm really looking forward to is the Dragon Quest VII remake.
>is a 3ds worth it?
Yes. Just the Dragon Quest games alone.
