The games are stay a bit on the expensive side.
If you're a new buyer, it's either the 2DS or a "New" 3DS.
2DS if you're strapped on money.
N3DS if you want stuff to load moderately faster. Just note with the N3DS there's no charger that comes with it.
If you got young ones that pry over your shoulder, go with the N3DSXL.

eventually they'll patch it so you can't do it if you update to the latest firmware, but if you've already downgraded you're golden.

Once you've downgraded, you'll use an emunand. Nintendo can't tell the difference, and the emunand can upgrade or go online like normal

I know that people on here say that Vita has not games and 3DS has a shit ton, but I'm not sure I feel that way entirely. I don't really give a fuck about Mario, Zelda and the rest of the first parties. That may be what keeps me from fully liking the 3DS over the Vita, but there's also the graphics and using the stylus. With Monhon4, I like the game, but hate the controls. It just makes me wish for it to be on a console. Same with Xenoblade. I don't get that with the Vita unless the game is trying to utilize backpads. The memory cards are a jew from hell and back on the Vita, though. There's no excuse for it and it's really insulting to consumers. It's hard to look at the price of them and know that they have actually been CUT from what they used to be. Most of the Vita sales on games are digital (of-fucking-course), so you have to delete your games a lot unless you get a big card for a large chunk of money.

People always post the thing where Sony CEO says that they aren't doing Vita games anymore or whatever. But that's only for FIRST party titles and AAA shit. Like, you'll still get weebshit, indies and maybe small budget first party. I like the weebshit, but I don't know any Japanese at all. So anything I get has to be localized or whatever. People also complain about "ports", but there are some of them that are ports from PSP. I never owned one, so that doesn't bother me. I also like having the option of playing something like Hotline Miami 2 on a mobile platform instead of console if I so choose. That's one thing with 3DS. If there is an indie game that I want that is coming out, I pretty well can *expect* (within reason) that it'll come out on Vita around the same time as the PS4. 3DS seems to get them a lot later or never.

I like a lot of the games it has, even though some of them are ports (but really good ports, though). Not only that, but PS1 and PSP games are godlike on the Vita because of the customization options. It puts the 3DS to shame because Nintendo only has NES, GB/GBC and the Sega 3D Classics on the eShop and doesn't bother to put anything else on there. I don't hate the 3DS, but I feel it's pretty lacking compared to the DS. Most of Nintendo's output have been lazy sequels and remakes. Only thing I'm really looking forward to is the Dragon Quest VII remake.
