How did the Sonic series create a character as likable as him?
Because a fat, egg-shaped, bald scientist with stick legs, wearing a marching-band outfit with sunglasses and a Teddy Roosevelt mustache probably shouldn't be someone taken too seriously.
They forgot about this somewhere between Sonic Adventure and Sonic 06 and then promptly remembered why he was a great character around the time Sonic Colors happened. For a long time, they tried to make him "serious".
I dunno, he was pretty awesome in Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog too, over a decade before Pollock became Eggman's official VA
In fact, in retrospect, Eggman/Robotnik has pretty much been the best Sonic character in all of his appearances, aside from the ones where they try making him edgy and grimdark (SA2, Shadow, S06)
It's great because they keep introducing new friends for Sonic but nobody gives a shit because we have Robotnik.
Mike Pollock is definitely based, but I respectfully disagree
In future Sonic games, they should change the character dynamic such that Eggman and other human characters (who would be incredibly sparse) are the only characters that talk. The animals would clearly be intelligent themselves, but would speak through actions and body language a la Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Does anyone remember that one cutscene in sonic unleashed where eggman was in mazuri threatening the people, and that little black kid tossed a rock at his head and hit him dead on with a great bonk sound effect
That was the funniest shit ever and still is now. Eggman is based no matter what game hes in
Why do people like this particular Sonic cartoon series? I always hear them talk about how its the best version, but I can't stand it.
Is it the furbait?
So back in the day, there were three Sonic cartoons.
The one you posted was SATAM, that was the super serious grimdark furbait one. The robonik in that show was kinda like the bad guy from inspector gadget.
Then there was The Adventures of sonic the hedgehog which was the comedy series posted in this thread
Then finally there was Sonic underground which was complete garbage.
CREATE SLAMMER IN THE COOLER
>tfw this came on my mp3 player while I was running errends today and blasted it out of my car.
>there will never be a show that just stars Robotic and his hopeless robots.
Mike Pollock is a bad voice actor with only his Eggman voice and his regular voice, and is vomiting every word that comes out of his mouth.
His actual character just seems better than it is because he's in this stupid franchise and you're desperate for a decent character.
Ian Flynn's Eggman is the best Eggman
Prove me wrong.
Before he got lucky with Deem Bristow dying, he was scrounging around desperately for work. His biggest role was Meat there on the left, whom he generically gave his Eggman voice (the only voice he knows) like everything else despite it being a 10 year old child character who sounds like it in the Japanese.
Unrestrained characterization. He can be whatever he needs to in order to serve as an antagonist for a series as fluid as it. He can be threatening, comical, obsessed, carefree, deranged, perceptive, etc.
Since he doesn't need to be diluted to avoid outshining Sonic, as his role is to constantly shadow Sonic, he has plenty of room to be as dynamic as possible in a setting as simple as he's in. It's sort of like the chewing the scenery thing in movies where a big star knows they can get away with hamming it up since they're the only talent keeping the production running. Without Robotnik the Sonic games feel a little empty, they've tried to replace him with monsters and the like but it never feels as grandiose as his which involve a themed progression, an roller coaster tour into his ego, genius and insanity as you go from Green Hill-esque to Death Egg.
Don't really know how else to sell the idea of him to you, he is the thread that serves as the stitching for Sonic. He is the engine that drives it forward. He's as good at being bad as he is because he needs to be in order for the Sonic games to balance out.
Knuckles is pretty likeable too. Forget what everyone else says, buff dudebro Knux is way better than the old one.
practically every character in BOOM is infinitely more likable than most of their previous incarnations.
It's too bad that the games were absolute garbage, which practically forced everyone, including SEGA themselves, to abandon it as a whole. The show is pretty fucking good (especially compared to all the other times they tried a Sonic series). I just hope we can get out a few more seasons before it's axed and they go back to a shittier format to sate the autism of the fanbase.
I don't understand how people like you spend so much time trying to demerit a VA's work by parroting
>b-but only one voice!
>h-he's shit cause I said so!
Maddie Blaustein (rip), Steve Blum, Joe Dimaggio and other VA's also have "only one voice" but it's what keeps them going, and if they're good at that then moere power to them
Does anyone have that comic where he puts snivley in solitary confinement and just leaves him there?
From what I remember it was really dark.
Yeah, it sucks they made Shadow such an edgemaster in Boom
"I hate that hedgehog"
That scene was amazing.
Sonic Boom is goldmine.
>You two are the only meat-bags I tolerate...trust
I'm not sure if it's a shame or a blessing Omega showed up in time to do the unhinged machine uprising thing in Metal's own game better than him.
It is a shame however that he and Shadow are shown commandeering Metal's shell in the end and nothing came from it. There's a lot of symbolism to work with there that Sonic Team just dropped. Metal like Shadow seems not only like a dark imitation of Sonic but also both question matters of their origin and creator and how real they are. Metal of course is also an Eggman robot like Omega and one who has rebelled against him.
And then nothing.
Shehad an amazing range. Compare Lt. Surge to Meowth. They're nothing alike. I'm surprised there aren't more transgendered voice actors, considering usually they pretty much have to voice act their entire lives.
I have to agree with this guy, though I don't really like that show in general Long John Baldry's performance is so fun and enthralling it makes it all worth watching.
What is this trash? Eggman is supposed to be a hardcore humanist that doesn't associate with animal trash or nature filth.
People adore this version and bash Adventures.
But I always loved Adventures. I never read the comics either.
I think the autism from the Sonic franchise occured because of this and the comic.
To play Devil's advocate it's not the best idea to cross someone who roboticizes innocent, defenseless animals for a living (at least not without something like super speed or magic gems to save you). That alone should tell you all you need to know about his limits.
What you just said isn't even true. There's only one group of people who specifically liked SatAM more than the other as a majority: Faggots who watched the Guy With Glasses review first.
Nah, I'm one of those faggots but I greatly prefer the first series because of how wonderfully they handled Robotnik and how absurd they went with some of the plots. None are particularly good though.
This is really fucking weird. All I hear is the bad doctor serenading me. I want out.
He was always a bit comical in the genesis games when getting hit or running away but he always scared me a bit as a kid. A lot of the boss fights would make me pretty tense, especially the final boss fights.
He was def a worthy foe fa sho fampai.
