It's because as a genre mech games are way too broad and yet still ironically niche. Nobody has made THE mech game and nobody can agree out of the games that are out what THE mech game is even if there is one.

The problem typically I find with mech games is they excel in one or two areas and then just flounder everywhere else.

The game gives you lots of customization but its not fun to play. The game is fun to play but it is really shallow. The game is a wide expansive persistent world but everything else around it kind of sucks. It's an isometric tactical game instead of being first or third person.

You don't see this problem with say FPS, because FPS has a formula that you can follow and then build an iterate upon and make (mostly) good games from that genre. Mech games don't exactly have hard and fast game mechanics to build upon. So while that brings you a lot of varied games only a handful of them are ever actually good and even those ones still aren't super great. Love able in the way broken games often are.

Mecha also doesn't have the broad reach you think it would though and often they are far too complicated for jimmy who buys madden every year so they sell like garbage too

Giant Robots are by their very nature, a bad concept. It's taking the ineffective and absurd and glorifying it for no good reason. There is no situation in which an oversized mechanical man is more effective than a flying/dynamic wheeled mobile tank/artillery.

There is literally no reason whatsoever to produce large scale mecha, ever. You want mecha without them being shit, they damn well better be exo-suits. That's the only "mecha" worth a shit because it's the only one that makes any sense. Enhancing soldiers IS something you do. Building poorly constructed humanoid vehicles with poorly designed Japanese energy swords is bad and you should feel bad for thinking it's good.

I got the game on dreamcast ages ago so I couldn't tell you. You might have an easier time getting the Blue Destiny games to work on a Saturn emulator. They're the predecessors to Sidestory 0079 and are also first-person, but they're way more arcade-y in terms of missions structure and gameplay.

I have Armored Core 3 for my PS2. I really like mechs and all (Although I prefer Evangelion and Zone of the Enders type mechs more), but I cannot, for the life of me, get into this game. Any general tips to an absolute fucking newbie to Armored Core?
I remember money being a huge issue while I was playing, too. Any help is really appreciated, because holy butt is that game something, even when I had a mech that was the equivalent of my first car with some neon spray paint on it.

Here is the problem

Most gundam and similar anime is way too... Japanese. The only Gundam series that could make it in the West would be something similar to 08th MS and War in the Pocket, but even both of those didn't do so well because of generic gay anime shit getting in the way. In 08th, there was the soundtrack and the badly forced relationship with Shiro and Eina on top of some generic anime moments like when Shiro's crew reacted to Shiro using the Ez8's arm to fight Norris. Honestly, the only reason Wing did as well as it did here was because of all the action, explosions, emo (hurr serious) characters and lack of ugukawaii moments that plague most anime. Basically the same reasons Attack on Titan has done so well in the west. Basically grit. Anime in general lacks grit on top of pacing, there is also the issue of unnecessary fan service. Cowboy Bebop did well in the west, but what is the average complaint about Bebop? Ed. Think about it. Maybe someone can forward a similar message to the people in charge of localization.

Ill give you that since at the time of loving Wing, I was in the 3rd grade and hyped on DBZ. All I wanted was more explosions and giant robot fights. At the time, I was easily the typical western audience. I still somewhat am the typical western audience as I hardly try and dive into anime. My most recent "dive" would probably be with One Punch Man which was great, and that garbage Cross Ange. Couldn't make it passed the 5th episode, or whichever episode Coco dies.

Find a High Grade of a design you like. You're better off if it's a more recent kit, so try something from at least Gundam 00 and on. Then grab your basic tools. An X-acto and a pair of nippers are all you really need (I recommend Xuron nippers) but sandpaper is useful too (Make sure it's a high grit though, nothing too rough).

Then just build the thing. The instructions are as easy as building a Lego, with the only difference is instead of having bags where you need to find that fucking piece in you just go cut the piece from a runner when you need it. Also read the guides in the gunpla generals on /m/ and /toy/.

It was a show where the non-combat scenes were carrying it, but had the worst production. Contrast this with the other Tomino shows where the non-combat scenes are terrible, and the combat scenes are what carry the show, but have the worst production quality.

The non-combat scenes in Turn A were riddled with QUALITY until a combat scene occurred, and the show ramped up the production quality.

This is contrast with every other Tomino Gundam series which had horribly drawn combat scenes filled with QUALITY but the non-combat scenes did not.

It's not bad, but like all multiplayer games if you play more than 2 matches a day you start noticing typical online stuff like why is this 60km speed mech moving as fast or faster than my 100km, blasting like 60 damage into one mech part look at the hud and see their armor is yellow check mechlab/store and see it has like 30 armor total in that area. I fucking adore Zeta so far, it's so weird and whacky but also gets grim and dark at points. The music's top notch and while there's stock footage littered about it's actually got good animation at times. Any time Kamille pulls the saber from his shoulder and like pre-ignites it so it has a curve, god dayum its sexy. I just hope the titans or Feds get some cool suits, the Hizacks cool but everything otherwise has been shite. Psyco gundam is retarded. Good on Kamille for trying to crush that crazy newtype puss though.
I love the weird bastard and the amount of bitch slaps and full decks to the face is incredible. What an insane ride. Best OP.

Yeah I found it. Took me an hour to configure the damn thing. Had to disable some "accuracy" thing to get rid of some slow down. Now I can play it at 1080 with at 60fps. Set up the controls just for this so I can play it like an FPS.

Actually on second thought, if you never played Front Mission and want to play a gundam 00 game, you'll get the riser system in a front mission looking mech. Some people might like that. If it's on sale and you hate having money it's worth it.

Oh right been a while since I watched it never got caught up in the power sources. The only reason the RX78 was different that other mobile suits was the armor though. I know it became standard though after it but it's the reason why amuro didn't die when he first got in the suit and was trying to get it to work. The armor started to get standard around zeta or something then stuff like the hyaku shiki stood out with some antibeam coating material while zeta had the transformer thing going on and a high power rifle.

It also had a learning computer (though its never really explained through the show) and a much more powerful reactor than the zaku, which is why it could use the beam sabers. However iirc the Dom was on equal terms power-wise, and the Gelgoog was technically a superior machine in all aspects.

The learning computer was kind of the bigger deal with the RX78 initially. It was what made up for Amuro being a scrub pilot at first.

One of the things I thought was cool about 0079 was how it went from Amuro being a shitty pilot who wins because his MS is amazing compared to the early Zeon suits, to a God-tier pilot who wins in spite of his MS being technically inferior to the later Zeon suits.
