Why arent mecha games more popular in the US?
>mech series comes out on consoles
>hardcore, engaging, light on story
>often brutal in gameplay
>rewarding mech customization
>little to no human interaction
>mech series comes out on consoles
>AM I KAWAII UGUU PLS DRESS ME UP IN FRILLY OUTFIT
>casualized for babies
>customization might as well be cosmetic only
>everyone has to talk about their feelings every single bloody moment
>the actual robots are basically accessories or powerups, instead of being front and center
Xenoblade X is the most blatant example of this.
It's because as a genre mech games are way too broad and yet still ironically niche. Nobody has made THE mech game and nobody can agree out of the games that are out what THE mech game is even if there is one.
The problem typically I find with mech games is they excel in one or two areas and then just flounder everywhere else.
The game gives you lots of customization but its not fun to play. The game is fun to play but it is really shallow. The game is a wide expansive persistent world but everything else around it kind of sucks. It's an isometric tactical game instead of being first or third person.
You don't see this problem with say FPS, because FPS has a formula that you can follow and then build an iterate upon and make (mostly) good games from that genre. Mech games don't exactly have hard and fast game mechanics to build upon. So while that brings you a lot of varied games only a handful of them are ever actually good and even those ones still aren't super great. Love able in the way broken games often are.
Mecha also doesn't have the broad reach you think it would though and often they are far too complicated for jimmy who buys madden every year so they sell like garbage too
>you will never spam missiles at muslims in your lifetime
>Flopped in US
Domestic gross: $101M
Foreign gross: $309M
Rating: 72% (Rotten Tomatoes); 7/10 (IMDB)
It wasn't a flop in the US, it made nearly 90% of its budget in the US alone, which is phenomenal.
I daresay Xenoblade Chronicles was the best JRPG in the last decade or so
Like, how can you keep a straight face while saying you don't like it?
>tfw you will never pilot a robot in a shape of a girl
Giant Robots are by their very nature, a bad concept. It's taking the ineffective and absurd and glorifying it for no good reason. There is no situation in which an oversized mechanical man is more effective than a flying/dynamic wheeled mobile tank/artillery.
There is literally no reason whatsoever to produce large scale mecha, ever. You want mecha without them being shit, they damn well better be exo-suits. That's the only "mecha" worth a shit because it's the only one that makes any sense. Enhancing soldiers IS something you do. Building poorly constructed humanoid vehicles with poorly designed Japanese energy swords is bad and you should feel bad for thinking it's good.
Will there ever be a gundam game that makes you feel like you're actually piloting a mobile suit? Not this shit where you run around beam sabering everything in the face because range is totally worthless.
Armored Core (pre-4) games are GOAT. They also did fairly well if I remember correctly.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is a JRPG that just happens to have mechs in it. It's not a mech game.
>nobody has made THE mech game
Armored Core series nigga.
X is better. The original had a shit story and characters. X does too, but unlike the original they aren't the focal point of X. The original had decent music and environments but was otherwise mediocre.
Not soon enough. Hopefully From goes back to the slower pace of the PS1/PS2 games and doesn't use the fatass midget mechs from V/Verdict Day.
>Will there ever be a gundam game that makes you feel like you're actually piloting a mobile suit?
Unless you pretty much build an actual mobile suit simulator, which I'm assuming will make the steel batallion controller look african-tier in complexity, I doubt there will be a game where you will feel like you're actually piloting it. Honestly, if they made a Gundam game using the mechanics and gunplay Titanfall has, it would be GOAT.
Hey don't pick on him. He's probably going to be put in charge of his countries entire military soon enough because that's the kind of guy that knows the best defense IS DEFENSE.
As long as he doesn't mix up the best offense is offense I think we got a shoe in.
Unbelievable we don't get realistic tank games, it's like they just want the terrorists to win.
Because Americans think giant robots are stupid, for some reason.
Also, Nu Gundam is sexiest Gundam.
Pic related probably is as close as we're ever going to get, unless you manage to find a place to play that Gundam game with the 360 view vr pods.
Yeah I meant the PS1/PS2-era AC gameplay. Not the AC4 fast-paced stuff. Those games were fine but felt nothing like Armored Core. If they wanted to do something in that style again I'd rather Sony have them make an Omega Boost sequel or something.
I assume you meant Kamille. I'm watching Victory right now, and while Uso is damn good, I don't think he quite rivals Kamille.
I wish they could port some AC games to PC, VD could use some graphical tweaks and better online.
Just an update for you folks: Legendary is being rescued by some Chinese company named Wanda who bought them out for a whopping 3.5 billion
You know, the same country where Pacific Rim was fucking huge and top of the box office for 3 weeks?
I wouldn't give up hope just yet
Have some sauce: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jan/12/hollywood-studio-legendary-bought-for-35-bn-in-largest-chinese-acquistion
There are timelines. You can pick whatever timeline you want and start from the beginning. It's like Final Fantasy, read about them and pick whichever sounds the most interesting.
I'm personally a UC kinda guy, and you have to watch the main series in order to understand the plot, althought you can skip ZZ if you like and jump into Char's counterattack and Unicorn
Outside that, most Gundam shows are their own thing, such as Wing Gundam, G Gundam, Gundam 00
The only other series I remember getting two shows set in the same universe is SEED and SEED Destiny
I'm just sad that FROM SOFTWARE didn't port all the AC series into the PC
I fucked up and posted the wrong one, sorry mate.
>Boot up VD
>Get seriously distracted during assembly, I don't know what to roll
>remember it's one of the simpler AC titles
Christ. I think I can understand why these games don't click with normalfags very well.
The Unicorn was just a psychoframe to channel his newtype hax in the end.
He was stalling fleets of mobile suits by waving at them and basically trascended his human form and turned into liquid newtype LCL in the end.
Get on my level grandpa
I got the game on dreamcast ages ago so I couldn't tell you. You might have an easier time getting the Blue Destiny games to work on a Saturn emulator. They're the predecessors to Sidestory 0079 and are also first-person, but they're way more arcade-y in terms of missions structure and gameplay.
Because Harmony Gold still owns the rights to Macross in the US. Once their Robotech tyranny is ended it will be a glorious mecha revolution!
Pic related, glorious perfect waifu.
To add to these charts, if you go into early UC I recommend watching 0080 (War in the pocket) and 0083 (Stardust Memory) right after 0079. There's some stuff in Zeta that isn't explained too well, and these two shows help smooth the transition.
I forgot about that dismissive 'Everyone is peace' wave.
Can you explain Newtype. Or have link. I remember it being the next step in human evolution to communicate to each other through the vastness of space or some shit. But it seems to have gone off the rails now.
I swear Tomino said once that Kamille was supposed to be the strongest newtype in UC (Psychoframe BS notwithstanding). He wasn't the best pilot though, not certainly compared to the bullshit Uso was pulling out.
>tfw no series with Kamille getting an F91
>Skip ZZ if you like
Why would you skip the Purus
And that baller Dublin Drop arc?
I have Armored Core 3 for my PS2. I really like mechs and all (Although I prefer Evangelion and Zone of the Enders type mechs more), but I cannot, for the life of me, get into this game. Any general tips to an absolute fucking newbie to Armored Core?
I remember money being a huge issue while I was playing, too. Any help is really appreciated, because holy butt is that game something, even when I had a mech that was the equivalent of my first car with some neon spray paint on it.
I want Sharon to electrocute me!
Simply, newtypes are space psychics. Soemthing about being in space requires humans to have better empathy, so they can communicate and shit.
Here is the problem
Most gundam and similar anime is way too... Japanese. The only Gundam series that could make it in the West would be something similar to 08th MS and War in the Pocket, but even both of those didn't do so well because of generic gay anime shit getting in the way. In 08th, there was the soundtrack and the badly forced relationship with Shiro and Eina on top of some generic anime moments like when Shiro's crew reacted to Shiro using the Ez8's arm to fight Norris. Honestly, the only reason Wing did as well as it did here was because of all the action, explosions, emo (hurr serious) characters and lack of ugukawaii moments that plague most anime. Basically the same reasons Attack on Titan has done so well in the west. Basically grit. Anime in general lacks grit on top of pacing, there is also the issue of unnecessary fan service. Cowboy Bebop did well in the west, but what is the average complaint about Bebop? Ed. Think about it. Maybe someone can forward a similar message to the people in charge of localization.
Heightened awareness caused by being in space, spacially and emotionally. Psychic powerups and telepathy in high level newtype cases. Supposedly the next step in human evolution, but we see Newtypes are still the vast minority by the time of Victory Gundam, really late UC.
>lack of ugukawaii moments that plague most anime
What about the fact that Quarter was a total moe fucktoy? Or maybe it was the selling point for all the impressionable teenagers?
Also what about Relena's entire outro in the first half? That was p-uguu/kawaii
I didn't skip ZZ, but I think it's skippable if you just wanna go 0079, Zeta, then CCA
It's been a while since I saw Unicorn. I thought Sleeves was it's own movement, or is there something beyond "Neo-Zeon" that viewers would need to know that I missed or forgot?
Use Energy weapons to save cash. Arena missions help too. IIRC the briefing will usually tell you what you're up against so build an AC to counter it's shit.
Tank AC with the LIC 10 shot cannon is broken as fuckOnce you get OP-Intensify, you're set.>>324328342
Thanks, anon. >>324328565
Director died during production so that's why it's such a jarring jump in it's themes.
Calling VII moeshit
That is some Third Reich shit there. Kohei Is a pretty good composer.
>>putting up with Kamille
He's hardly on screen you massive homo, which is more of a bad thing than good thing.
Also did you just miss the rest of UC or something? Why would you go 8th>0083>ZZ?
Do you have brain problems? Just because you are an idiot doesn't mean you should recommend everyone else to be one.
I think most people in this board care too much and are really self-conscious about things being perceived as anime. Shit, Persona is way too fucking popular and that shit is ANIME as fuck compared to mainline games.
Ask any normi who liked Wing about Sandrock. I dare you. Likely answers will be along the lines of "The one piloted by that fag?" or "Who?"
>Relena's entire outro
Same as above. No one gave a fuck about her. As far as the western audience goes, the majority wanted more Deathscythe and Wing Zero.
-Save often. I would save after every successful mission. If you fail a mission then reload instead of eating the money.
-I forget if 3 had any good energy arm weapons in the early stages, but if it does I would recommend using them. Energy weapons means not having to pay for ammo.
-Get used to the controls. The older games use an unconventional scheme but it works well once you're used to it.
-Get used to dodging missles. Pretty self explanatory. Boost is your friend here.
-Be smart with your ammo. Every shot costs money so try to be frugal.
-Experiment. One of my favorite things about the games is you can sell parts for the same prices you paid for them. This allows you to mess around with a bunch of different configurations until you find one that works for you, either as an all-purpose mech or just for a single mission.
Im sorry that I got into gundam late in the game and bounced around series. I hope this lessens the pain I bestowed on your anus.
Kamille can eat dicks and die. Shiro, Norris, and Bernie are the most /m/anliest men there could ever be, Banagher is a fag, and Riddhe would have been a far more interesting main.
While I disagree on Kamille, you got pretty good taste on everything else. Have a picture of a cute grill.
>doesn't mean that Wing isn't filled with Jap as fuck moments.
Ill give you that since at the time of loving Wing, I was in the 3rd grade and hyped on DBZ. All I wanted was more explosions and giant robot fights. At the time, I was easily the typical western audience. I still somewhat am the typical western audience as I hardly try and dive into anime. My most recent "dive" would probably be with One Punch Man which was great, and that garbage Cross Ange. Couldn't make it passed the 5th episode, or whichever episode Coco dies.
>Kamille can eat dicks and die
Kamille was baller as fuck and didn't take shit from nobody. First thing he does is sucker punch a dude and steal a car. Kids a psycho, and he's probably my favorite character in the franchise.
The only people that complain about Ed are the same ones that think the lobster in the fridge and the mushrooms in the desert episodes are "too goofy."
In short, people who hate fun.
I don't have an appropriate reaction image, so have this. Enjoy.
What is your favorite OG mecha, and why isn't it from the R-Series?
He got so mad about someone calling him a girl that he jumped a ticket booth to punch the person. He sounds more like Tumblr personified than anything else.
As someone who hates Ed, I can say that I loved both those episodes. The fridge one so much that I actually, as a kid, put a shrimp in a Tupperware and buried it in my back yard with the intent to dig it up in 3 years and see what would happen. I never found the damn thing and it's likely still deep somewhere in my mothers back yard.
Do you know what I've always wanted?
Just a super robot game where you get to fight the kaiju of the week with all sorts of cool shit and maybe even giant ass guns from the military.
I'm well aware that R.A.D. exists, but I really want another one like it.
Because we're so fucking advanced robots aren't a big deal to us anymore
haven't seen a lot of Gundam but heard it has a war is hell focus and all that
just wondering has a villain or so in that series figured out you can build a thousand drones for the cost of one mecha and used it?
I just meant Gundams specifically, but I don't think anyone can deny the raw sex appeal of the Qubeley.
Gundam Thunderbolt? Yes sir. As far as I know, only one episode is out right now. I saw it on BanDai's official youtube channel, but I think it has been made private or something since. Shit was good. Kidna reminded me of the mian characters from Phantom Dust.
How did Spike deal with it again? Blew it out the airlock right? Yea. Sorry guys, but I fucked all of us.
>tfw your favourite Gundam shows were Build Fighters and G, followed by 0079 and War in the Pocket
>tfw you didn't like Zeta or CCA
I don't even know what kind of Gundam fan I'm supposed to be
>There's a create-a-super mode
>You get to choose from several types of supers
>Your basic "Regular" super robot (Mazinger/Getter)
>Your slow clunky but high-defensive super robot (Giant Robo/The Big O)
>A combining robot with the gimmick to split between 3-5 vehicles controlled by you and the AI
>A Brave-like mode where you are the robot instead of just a pilot in a bot
>An unlockable Kaiju mode where you fight against other kaiju/super robots
>Can throw all kinds of weapons here and there, from your standard swords, chest beams and rocket punches to crazy shit like drill knees, electromagnetic yoyos, and black hole launchers.
Mecha games have an audience problem, either they go the sim route and risk having their audience being way too small because normies don't want to deal with that shit, of they go the arcadey route and normies will just ignore them because they would basically be playing any other third person shooter except clunkier to emulate the "feel" of a mech.
You're the kind of fan who likes fun things, AKA someone who
should be watching Super Robot shows and not gundam
>you can build a thousand drones
In the UC timeline minovsky physics make remote control a problem because the radiation from the fusion generators block most em bands, and the fact is used militarily. Shit like drones called funnels do exist, which are psychically controlled mobile beam cannons, but for most newtypes controlling more than a few is difficult.
Find a High Grade of a design you like. You're better off if it's a more recent kit, so try something from at least Gundam 00 and on. Then grab your basic tools. An X-acto and a pair of nippers are all you really need (I recommend Xuron nippers) but sandpaper is useful too (Make sure it's a high grit though, nothing too rough).
Then just build the thing. The instructions are as easy as building a Lego, with the only difference is instead of having bags where you need to find that fucking piece in you just go cut the piece from a runner when you need it. Also read the guides in the gunpla generals on /m/ and /toy/.
It definitely does the best job of exploring Gundam's anti-war themes. The attempts in most of the other series are laughable by comparison. And Bernie is a bro
Al is an annoying little shit though, but he's necessary for the theme of the show and six episodes isn't long enough for him to seriously get on my nerves anyway.
>going to /m/'s gunpla threads
Then again this is /v/ so fast paced but ultimately shit threads with recurring spammers must be familiar to everyone
Its funny to me how every /toy/ gunpla thread has that one post that's like
>I asked this in the /m/ thread but they where in the middle of shitposting or where just unhelpful cunts, so can anyone help me with...
followed by someone actually helping them
>no armored 6 for PS4 expanding on the 4/FA style games with next gen hardware
>no armored core vita bringing back the classic armored core style gameplay considering it emulates so well
>no armored core PS2 collection for PS4/vita
>no armored core on pc, very unlikely it'll ever happen
>no armored core rhythm game for vita featuring remixes aswell as unused original songs from kota hoshino
>no armored core x kantai collection
They have so many things they could do with this series but instead they're left making souls games
>Doesn't have a bullet dodging main
>Doesn't end with punch from half a gundam into the cockpit of a giant doomsday machine
>Doesn't have a main that can out do a Zaku in a Ball
But seriously, 08th MS and War in the Pocket are my top two picks. I can't decide between the two for so many reasons. I love them both!
Knew it wouldn't be long before /k/ showed up.
>Every mech thread on /v/
>Mechs are cool
>Uhh no realistically they would just be destroyed by a single peasant with a potato gun because terrain/joints/it's unstable as fuck
>Tank would win in every scenario ever
Thoughts on this game?
I heard the PvP is incredibly good in this game, to the point where there are plenty of arcade tournaments in Japan.
I already said this earlier, but while they weren't bad they didn't seem like Armored Core games. They are the Metal Gear Rising of the series. They're also proof that Miyazaki needs to be kept away from the franchise.
I get not liking 4/FA compared to 1 (and its spinoffs)/2 (and another age)/3. Personally, I really like all of these games and I still play them all on/off to this day, but people who hate 4/FA more than Silent Line/Last Raven/V baffle me to be honest.
Never played VD because of how much I absolutely disliked V.
>FF7 or Armored Core
It wasn't exactly popular, was it? I'm pretty sure AC2 is the best selling one, both worldwide and specifically in the west. AC4/FA are more like the FFXIII of the series.
Mecha games aren't popular anywhere, for that matter. Though you could argue that the Americans have made a considerable number of Mech games, especially when they include mech sections in other games (like Saints Row 4).
I never said I disliked 4/FA. I just don't want any more like that. Also what's wrong with the three you mentioned? Ninebreaker and the PSP one (that wasn't a port) were the only bad ones IMO.
So basically, neither of you guys have any idea of what you're talking about?
And its funny to say AC4 doesn't feel like an Armored Core game when ACVD is way worse.
literally just watch production order, particularly for anything in UC
drop anything you don't like while watching (although give it a few episodes to get back on track just in case, almost dropped Zeta half way but that would have been a mistake, Zeta is great)
you can watch non-UC stuff whenever, but production order is still a pretty good way to watch it, and you'll get all of the references/allusions/etc to series made up to that point (namely, watch Turn A after watching everything before it)
Gundam has a lot of grit. Really, I dunno how it doesn't succeed in the west, it's a pretty decent series that makes a solid attempt at depicting war and cool ass robots.
>tfw if you re-released 0079 as is, except replace all the mobile suits with VTOL spaceships, it might be accepted better in the west because there seems to be some sort of robot stigma
fucking loved this about Kamille
>punches a military officer
>punches another officer as he's getting bailed out
>fucking steals a gundam
>defects to the enemy because why not
he's a crazy unstable maniac with too much damn pride and daddy issues at the start of Zeta
Kamille is great. I love how fucking nuts the kid was.
All the PS1 games emulate well.
The PSP games should emulate fine too, but I haven't tried them in PPSSPP.
I like fast robots, but I kind of liked the older, heavier feeling AC games.
man, I wish Sega would make another Virtual On, Gundam Vs. scratches my itch, but it plays so damn differently, and no one wants to play VOOT even though it's amazing
EXVS is a great fucking game (but I'm bad)
AC pre 4 are what everyone thinks should be an AC game
and they are fucking right
your game is like AC, but with SPEED, which ruins it. like the other anon said, it'd be fine with it being its own new game.
i like my AC games with strategy and building my mech, not zooming all over the fucking place like its ZoE.
AC best game list?
It's an artistic representation of warfare
>inb4 huur weeaboo
>defects to the enemy because why not
Honestly watching the first 2 episodes of Zeta with a friend was amazing. It was such a clusterfuck and we had no idea who was supposed to be the bad guy.
Up until Bask's cronies started beating the shit out of Bright that is.
>Xenoblade Chronicles X is a JRPG that just happens to have mechs in it. It's not a mech game.
Have you played the game? Skells are a huge part of the game. You literally can't finish the story without having a Skell.
>idols in space
I hope you mean "so bad it's good". I'll stick to the more mature mecha anime Gundam series that depict war as realistic and brutal, thank you very much.
No it doesn't. It's faster and you can fly but it still holds the basic principles of all AC games. (ac building, full customization, ect)
ACVD plays completely different from every AC game in that it adds rock-paper-scissor defense and not to mention wall jumping or scan mode.
>the only reason Wing did as well as it did here was because of all the action, explosions, emo (hurr serious) characters and lack of ugukawaii moments that plague most anime.
No, the reason it did well was because it came out of left field and shocked audiences by being something different, the same with dbz. Dragonball is arguably better, and dbgt was the same shit, yet neither of those did anywhere near as good. Wing came in and swept audiences and gave them their fill then they were done with the genre.
MS Gundam comes out in 1979.
Influences the creation of Macross.
Macross influences Zeta Gundam.
Zeta Gundam is the precursor to all modern military mecha from Japan.
Macross influences Battletech. Battletech becomes Mech Warrior.
Macross influences all western mecha.
Macross is the grand daddy of all mecha, and you're a pissant plebian.
Fuck off with all these Gundam shit. Here, have one of the best mech games ever made.
But the best game to offer that is from the US
Hey guys who wants to play front mission evolved?
No one. The answer is no one.
Heavy Gear is criminally underappreciated
man, Gundam is great
but hot damn, I want a new VO so fucking badly
failing that, I kind of just wish I could play VOOT with more than a tiny handful of friends
>tfw almost everyone I played oratan with moved away
It's bland to it's very core. Take any Mecha/robot game you like and remove like 70% of whatever it is you like about it. Also it is a third person shooter sequel to a traditionally turn based strategy game. That would be ok if it wasn't so poorly done.
Anon, the windmill is necessary so the Gundam can keep cool!
it's mostly your standard fare shooter and not in a good way. I really didn't mind they had some on-foot section since Front Mission 3 had those as well but it was poorly executed. The currency (shop) system doesn't make sense. You have to constantly refund and buy stuff for newer parts and weapons. No messing around and tuning your wanzer.
Also the story is average at best
Anyone ever play this shit? Looks like a boring old FPS dressed up as a "mech game" to me. Probably nobody left playing it, anyway.
i thought that was the blue LED's
on a /g/ related note, i found a MASSIVE computer case at my trash dump.
scary thing was, it was filled with tech from the Pentium 2 days. also, massive as fuck fans, one of which was the entire side of the case.
This shit right here. This game had so much potential. But it was overly-complex, frustrating, super slow-paced, completely dull presentation, and grindy.
Still, it's probably the best mecha game ever made.
>you will never play a mecha game where you dont use a mecha to take down mechs
liking mecha/robot shit above the age of 12 is embarrassing. Grow up, faggots.
>you don't get to play as/pilot any of them
It's like somebody handed them a 500 page document on Front mission and what it is supposed to be.
They flipped open the first page saw the first two words were "Giant Robots" then said "Ok I think we got this" then threw the entire thing in the trash and made a terrible third person shooter then slapped FRONT MISSION on the front because they had the license, flipped you the double bird, and then asked for $60.
Theres M.A.V., which is a Chrome Hounds clone, but its taking ages for anything to get done because its literally just one guy working on it.
Turn A was the oddest show.
It was a show where the non-combat scenes were carrying it, but had the worst production. Contrast this with the other Tomino shows where the non-combat scenes are terrible, and the combat scenes are what carry the show, but have the worst production quality.
So in a sense; Turn A had fantastic combat scenes, with incredible production, but were short, and few in number. You could have a Turn A episode without a combat scene because it wasn't a toy commercial.
>but had the worst production
I assume you meant to say it had the best production? But yes, the reason why Turn-A is great whereas something like Zeta is terrible is because Tomino's storytelling sensibilities don't work in a format where you have to have at least one battle scene every 20 minutes. God, I could write a fucking essay about precisely why Zeta is shit.
>TFW will never get a game that plays like how the Armored Core intros looked
I believe you misunderstand.
The non-combat scenes in Turn A were riddled with QUALITY until a combat scene occurred, and the show ramped up the production quality.
This is contrast with every other Tomino Gundam series which had horribly drawn combat scenes filled with QUALITY but the non-combat scenes did not.
Which is a tragedy because Turn A was carried by it's non-combat scenes which were well done story-wise, but poorly done production-wise.
>tfw games are still getting dumbed down interms of gameplay because hardware can't handle it
The game Hawken was originally supposed to have pretty much completely destructible terrain yet it was all cut because it would be nvidia only / most consumers wouldn't be able to run it properly
I dunno, I don't remember taking issue with the visuals in Turn-A at any point. It looked leagues better than stuff like Wing. It also had possibly the best soundtrack in all of anime, which probably didn't come cheap.
If hawken had kept that environment destruction, and had cool looking mechs, the game would have been so much better off.
Nobody wants to pilot a fucking dishwasher on legs, and only have 2 weapons on their giant robot with no melee attacks.
That was the amino domini timeline not UC.
I don't even remember what they said the powersource was in UC in the original gundam the RX78 was unique because it was constructed of Gundanium and it's rifle was constantly running out of power that's why he'd start with a bazooka, dump that for the rifle, then go to the energy blade. Same thing happened in Zeta. Haven't got into ZZ or anything after that though found most of ZZ's cast annoying in dynasty warriors gundam.
Oh goodness I love AC and Souls but I can't see them working together at all. I loved my moonlight but backstabbing critical please no.
Dark Souls just made me renew my faith From will make another kickass AC game again.
The RX78 was made of lunar titanium. And it definitely was powered by a fusion reactor.
The beam rifle ran out of juice because it wasn't powered by the suit itself. It had it's own separate energy source
Amuro was a psychopath. Uso was creative.
He also got all the bitches. Even got felt up by the girls trying to save him from hypothermia right after he was nearly molested by an amazon. This is all after women were throwing their lives away to save him.
Uso was prime alpha male.
>It looks like Crackdown on the Xbone might be able to top it
The Xbone cant even handle the terrain destruction for Crackdown. All the destruction data is processed by a seperate fucking server and sent back to the Xbone to render on your screen. Or at least for multiplayer it is.
Its fucking hilarious that they had to do it that way.
>I read somewhere that Miyazaki wants to make a new Armored Core with "Souls DNA". Thoughts on this?
He didnt say that ever. He said alot of people have been asking FROM for a new Armored Core, and his response was telling fans that they need to go ask Bamco, because Bamco owns FROM now.
Bamcos going to force FROM to be a Darksouls factory for as long as its profitable.
It also doesnt help that AC5 and Verdict Day did fucking awful in sales. Even worse than what AC games regularly get. I personally couldnt stand playing AC5 or VD.
Lunar Titanium became Gundarium after the One Year War.
Everything was made of Gundarium after that. That's why machine guns fell out of favor in place of beam weapons.
Funny thing about the RX78 was that it had less thrust than a GM.
Minovsky particles are definitely from UC, and they mention it by name multiple times in the original series. Also you confuse Gundanium (Wing) with Gundarium, which was originally called luna titanium.
>>no armored core on pc, very unlikely it'll ever happen
It's not bad, but like all multiplayer games if you play more than 2 matches a day you start noticing typical online stuff like why is this 60km speed mech moving as fast or faster than my 100km, blasting like 60 damage into one mech part look at the hud and see their armor is yellow check mechlab/store and see it has like 30 armor total in that area. Stuff like that.
Honestly this game just made me question if Double Helix has even played a video game before making it let alone a Front Mission. Fucking losing mech parts when you upgrade in the store. Just so much wrong with that game.
I fucking adore Zeta so far, it's so weird and whacky but also gets grim and dark at points. The music's top notch and while there's stock footage littered about it's actually got good animation at times. Any time Kamille pulls the saber from his shoulder and like pre-ignites it so it has a curve, god dayum its sexy. I just hope the titans or Feds get some cool suits, the Hizacks cool but everything otherwise has been shite. Psyco gundam is retarded. Good on Kamille for trying to crush that crazy newtype puss though.
I love the weird bastard and the amount of bitch slaps and full decks to the face is incredible. What an insane ride. Best OP.
I also think I love Quattro, in a gay way.
>Heavy Gear Assault may or may not be the game Ive been waiting for
>3rd person and 1st person mech shennanagins
>can get out of your mech and run around on foot
>can climb into empty mechs and later on other shit they will add to maps like turrets, cranes, vehicles
>will have fully customizable melee moves you can macro up yourself like a fucking gundam
>will have lots of melee weapons, and special melee only modes
>people will be able to host their own servers
>will be able to grab terrain items and use them like weapons
>grab lamp post and beat some dude over the head with it
>pick up fence and throw it at other mech
>dev said he wants to ability to pick up an arm you just blew off some other guy and give you the ability to either keep it for yourself and run back to your garage to store it, or take it and use it as a melee weapon and club the guy with it
>moving around on skates lets you actually fall over if you run into walls or collide with other mechs
In its current state its pretty bleh and needs a ton of work, but it could be really good if they pull through on all the shit they said they would. They also said they have single player stuff planned after they get the main multiplayer stuff going.
Yeah I found it. Took me an hour to configure the damn thing. Had to disable some "accuracy" thing to get rid of some slow down. Now I can play it at 1080 with at 60fps. Set up the controls just for this so I can play it like an FPS.
That sorta sucks, I've seen a few that I like though. But it wont deter me too much. And if that's true I fucking love that decision actually. I hope 83 Stardust is good because I cant wait to get to that after Zeta. I want some Zeek wank. And it's the only UC OVA/movie I haven't seen.
>Honestly this game just made me question if Double Helix has even played a video game before making it let alone a Front Mission.
Actually on second thought, if you never played Front Mission and want to play a gundam 00 game, you'll get the riser system in a front mission looking mech. Some people might like that. If it's on sale and you hate having money it's worth it.
>Front Mission 5 never came to the west
Oh right been a while since I watched it never got caught up in the power sources. The only reason the RX78 was different that other mobile suits was the armor though. I know it became standard though after it but it's the reason why amuro didn't die when he first got in the suit and was trying to get it to work. The armor started to get standard around zeta or something then stuff like the hyaku shiki stood out with some antibeam coating material while zeta had the transformer thing going on and a high power rifle.
08th MS team.
That's good to hear all around then. Seems I'm gonna have a godo time.
Damn I wish War in the pocket gave the Kampfer a bit more screentime, that thing was so awesome.
There's a variant of the Kampfer in Build Fighters that gets more screentime and some pretty cool moments.
Build Fighters is obviously a pretty different show though.
>The only reason the RX78 was different that other mobile suits was the armor though
It also had a learning computer (though its never really explained through the show) and a much more powerful reactor than the zaku, which is why it could use the beam sabers. However iirc the Dom was on equal terms power-wise, and the Gelgoog was technically a superior machine in all aspects.
Technically the rifle could be powered by the suit. It used a capacitor instead of an actual power source and was charged by white base's reactor before a sortie, and it could if needed be charged by the suits reactor.
The learning computer was kind of the bigger deal with the RX78 initially. It was what made up for Amuro being a scrub pilot at first.
One of the things I thought was cool about 0079 was how it went from Amuro being a shitty pilot who wins because his MS is amazing compared to the early Zeon suits, to a God-tier pilot who wins in spite of his MS being technically inferior to the later Zeon suits.
In fairness the first few episodes of ZZ are pretty stupid and it turns a lot of people off. Though those same people really should shut their mouths if they haven't watched it all and are trying to give advice on it.
That's easy, because they're fucking stupid.
It's a perfectly idiotic concept that somehow became an iconic toy for Japanese children. Now it's a self perpetuating nostalgia cycle.
I think the show did mention the computer. Didn't know about the reactor just that there was a charging thing for the sabers when they are stored in its back. Dom was practically a match for it but I think the gelgoog was barely a step up from a zaku and was really mostly only as good as it was when Char was in one.
EXVS is really fucking fun. You could still play online I'm sure there are some nips still playing. You'll probably have connection issues though. There used to be organized lobbies on /m/ and elsewhere for us westerners; not so sure about now.
You'll probably have to wait for the next iteration to come out if you feel like importing it.
>He didnt say that ever.
Yeah I was trying to remember where I saw the "Souls DNA" thing and it was here: http://armoredcore.org/index.php?topic=273.0
>The good news is that Miyazaki Hidetaka, the creative mind behind the Souls and Bloodborne series, has teased the possibility of a new Armored Core edition with, in his words, "Souls DNA."
I could've sworn the guy had a source but when I double checked it turns out he didn't. So false alarm.
Amuro had really awesome character development. I really can't think of any other show where the character went through a change like that. Was really dark for a kids show like he had PTSD or some shit.
>What did you think of 4 and For Answer?
I actually liked them. I own every armored core game. Ive been playing them since that first fucking Armored Core demo on the very first Play Station demo disc with PSM.
My favorite games are the AC3 era games, but AC4 and FA was a nice change of pace form the usual slide and hop style of previous games.
When i first heard AC5 was going back to a slower plastyle with big chunky mechs i was excited. Then i actually saw it in motion and got to play it myself and it was still AC4/FA with people quickboosting all over the fucking place at 1000kmh, but now it had a worse frame rate, everything was brown, all the parts were shitty copy pasted versions of eachother, only ONE good core to use in the game, and the shitty rock/paper/scissors damage system. It was all trash.
If they make another game Id rather see it go back to being more like the AC3 games, but all fancy looking with HD textures and shit, and then borrowing cool stuff from FA like special cores with their own unique Over Boosts.
The one only thing I did like about AC5 was the Over Weapons. They were pretty awesome, but they really needed to be made into much weaker weapons that just had an ammo count, instead of being a shitty one time use, one hit KO weapon.
> this anime was so bad they had to rehash elements from previous series because they lacked any sort of creativity or understanding regarding what made the previous installments successful
i got as far as when glasses got it then i just stopped watching and deleted the series
Because only a handful of mecha franchises are popular in the west
Nobody cares about Macross
Nobody cares about Xabungle
Nobody cares about L-Gaim
Nobody cares about Patlabor
Can't bring SRW games to the west because licensing issues
"why do you watch a Transformer rip-off, anon?" said my friend
There's a whole episode in Build Fighters dedicated to a Kampfer vs. GM Sniper K9 battle like this guy says >>324346125
Even if you don't like setting the fight is worth watching. It's episode 18 I think.
> He got so mad about someone calling him a girl that he jumped a ticket booth to punch the ranking officer of a military organization known to commit atrocities in order to maintain their tyrannical dominion over all of humanity
i heard some rumblings that we were going to get SRW Alpha back in the day to test the market or something. i never heard anything about it though, im keeping it in my rumor bin until otherwise noted.
It was super popular and an easy way to sell more slightly modified pre-existing kits alongside new ones. At least Try didn't really touch anything GBF resolved, assimilation was dumb though, I hope they don't bring it up if they decide to follow up again.
*why they had to make GBF TRY shit
And because MORE KITBASHES OF OLD SHIT WE CAN SELL
MORE ADDICTS REELED IN THROUGH YOUTUBE
PRAISE BE TO PLASTIC
I AM THE BANE OF MY WALLET
POLYCAPS IS MY BODY AND RUNNERS IS MY BLOOD
I HAVE CREATED OVER A THOUSAND NUBS
totally okay and I hope you enjoy it. For as much as GBF is sheer advertising and new merch hawking, it's also a fun celebration of why people like to gunpla. And some fanwank fantasy bullshit. And it has Ramba Ral, it's great.
>MORE KITBASHES OF OLD SHIT WE CAN SELL
>MORE ADDICTS REELED IN THROUGH YOUTUBE
Kinda worked on me with GBF, though I bought old models that I thought looked cool, and kept streaming through jewtube for that delicious flamenco music
>meijin will never make gunpla while playing with your nipples while flamenco music plays
This game would have had such a wonderful campy following if they bothered releasing it anywhere that mattered on a console that wasn't shit.
>FromSoftware is too ashamed of it
>they thought we'd hate it
>make THE most American game possible
>more American than any American can make
>thought AMERICANS would hate it
I don't understand Japanese people sometimes.
I mean, Matt and Pat are there at least. He's mostly there to translate the weeb shit and play the game since he's actually good at it.
For the shit given to him, I like that he's usually actually good at the games they play.
the worst part is, MS cancelled it because of the then upcoming 360 launch that Nov in 2005.
the only thing we got was a demo on the vol. 39 XBM disc and they made it A HIDDEN GAME!
i'd fucking hate that meme YT people got me my game instead of me voicing my opinion like i have for the last decade and getting nothing.
also, the game is pretty fucking expensive now
Metal Wolf Chaos 2
the first game is on a bonus disc and works on PS4/Xbone
Nah m8s the real question is season 3 when? Try was shit because of threeway battles
and chicken soul shitbut the show had some good scenes like the whole TRYON-3 fight, Red Warrior Amazing, Domonbeing Sekai's trainer and shit. The ending even was a huge cliffhanger with the world tournament stuff and none of the shit from S1 was explained.
Aside from Lin, no it wasn't censored in the U.S
Every generation has their own mech animu interests anon
>60's Born = Superhero/Saving the day plot
>70's Born = Dark and twisted plot
>80's Born = More`action than story plot
>90's Born = Slice of Life plot
It's just a cultural thing. Robot fiction in Japan generally revolves around the hero piloting a giant robot meanwhile in America our robot fiction is about sentient robots that are usually evil the human heroes must stop.
>half of those game are popular in the east
Japanese style mech content in general isn't really that popular outside of Japan. Do you really think that many people are even aware of the Gundam franchise as opposed to something like Transformers and BattleBots? If Gundam was that popular, maybe we have gotten all the Japanese exclusive games.
In regards to American TV, there aren't that many channels that bothers to air any kind of anime. Most of us who weren't old enough to import our own anime merchandise likely saw it air on Cartoon Network and not everyone had cable or satellite tv with access to it.
Patrician tier mech game coming through
mmm I love me some Elsa, gotta get back to my replay of FM4
biggest issue anyone will throw at you that skill linking is blatantly OP, other than that it's got a good story going for it, and lots of customization
if you're emulating I got the codes for all parts, including the Zaftran parts
I can post the codes for a second run through, no guarantee there'll be another chance
the lack of front mission r34, namely Elsa is criminal
gametitle=Front Mission 4 [SLUS 20888] [EB3AC800]
comment=patches by Bagus
//Elsa Div Parts//
All Body Part
All Left Arm Part
All Right Arm Part
All Leg Part
All Backpack Part
All Hand Weapon
All Shoulder Weapon
That covers Elsa's part of the story, I'll get the other half of it
I just wanted to help anon
Here's the Darril halve of it, standard pnach code, pre filtered, the filename will be EB3AC800.pnach - be advised it gives you 99 of every part because I didn't go and tinker with the values, but for seeing all the wanzer parts it's magical
Darril's Wanzer Setup Code:
All Body Part
All Left Arm Part
All Right Arm Part
All Leg Part
All Backpack Part
All Hand Weapon
All Shoulder Weapon
But WHAT are good mecha games?
Steel battalion ( thanks to their controllers )
Fron mission 3
Only played one Armored core to the PSP. so im kinda lost in that series
What is a good fun mecha game list?
surely there must be good mods out there no?
Skill linking is OP as fuck if you do it right, and enemies are annoying as fuck later in the game because they always show up with like 4 guys boating missiles on the other side of the map and their little scout guys with radars get close to you which lets the missile guys target you.
Its like as soon as some guys with that radar backpack show up you have to kill them ASAP or you get fucked. It was really annoying.
Also the whole switching between two teams thing. The whole games story is following two teams of people in different parts of the world. So as soon as you get your team of guys all decked out with good shit, the next mission is LOL the other team, and you are stuck with them for the next few missions. And then as soon as you get used to those guys and have their team setup, you get put with the other team again. I hated it.
shit my bad that's the raw gameshark code
//Darril's Wanzer Setup Code:
//All Body Part
//All Left Arm Part
//All Right Arm Part
//All Leg Part
//All Backpack Part
//All Hand Weapon
//All Shoulder Weapon
THERE is the pnach code
the trick to contering the radar bubs is plain ole' cover tactics, enemies only ever use average track missiles, which can't turn fast enough after clearing a building roof
I think the final boss uses excellent missiles, but that's like the only enemy
but yes gangrape the radar guys and it's all good
>the next macross will probably have some vr tie-in game after that aquarion x 0048 VR thing they tried
It could happen anon
I had to drop Frontier. Insufferable characters and vomit inducing CGI up the ass.
>tfw I used to legit luv Transformers and collected some figures for myself
>tfw I hate it now because it's stuck between the brainless moviegoer fans and the tumblrina "robot husbando" fans
>"why do you watch a Transformer rip-off, anon?" said my friend
>The PSP games should emulate fine too, but I haven't tried them in PPSSPP.
A few missions have crashing issues. You can easily fix it (it's just a single line of code that needs to be added to a file), but you're going to have to build it yourself, and you're going to need a computer with at least more than 2 GB of RAM.
I know because I tried to build it on Linux, and it kept on running out of memory.
i like that this anon was probably thinking about a destroid while making this post and thinking "japan will never design something like this"
Anon, there are still people who use shitty computers from pre-2010. They most likely won't be browsing /v/, but they exist.
I only have this piece of shit because I'm currently in the process of moving, and I'm a giant jew.
And nobody mentioned Metal Fatigue...
Seriously, it deserves a sequel or at least a spiritual successor. Or at least to be on GOG. That whole voting it to be on GOG is taking too long.
Don't be rude Anon, Transformers and Mech fans can coexist in peace.
Lack of exposure in the US is a major factor. Remember the boom that was created when Toonami started airing Marcoss and Gundam? Gundam was the one that really took off, spawning a number of video games and, most importantly to the networks, toys.
That was the caveat, if your show couldn't sell toys in the 80's 90's or early 2000's, it didn't stay on the air long. Nowadays, as long as the show can push some kind of merch, it stays. The creators of those shows then get to have one or two pet projects as long as the network can milk their "masterpiece".
When it comes to video games, we're hitting a point where video games are no longer being designed for younger age groups as much as they used to. All that effort is going into mobile games which, more often than not, are just ripoffs of other mobile games.
Outside the TV/vidya struggle, we mainly don't get any of the "good" mecha games being produced because they don't get a US release and only a small handful of people are going to buy a nip PS4 and learn to read moon runes just to play a few vidya.
>Mfw playing the entire front mission franchise for the first time
Holy shit, turn based mecha combat is the best thing ever since blowjobs. Why arent we making more of these?
Kawamori will make anime real
nice kawamori ripoff bro i'm really proud of you
Never reply to me again unless you're contributing to the thread
The guys behind the Shadowrun games?
Wow, what yer saying is legit. Just checked their page, they are doing a turn-based Battletech game.
Will be looking forward to this.
