>mfw people hate the power of friendship in vidya and prefer edgy shit
>preferring friendship in vidya
>not superior edgy shit
>game has both power of friendship and edgy shit
>the power of friendship
What is this gay man talking about? What is the "power of friendship" and how does one harness it?
you said it yourself bitch
we're the guardians of the galaxy
>the power of friendship is strong
> friendship it's almost magical.
can we have both friendship and edgy shit?
But what about the first part of the question?
It's all about the presentation anon. Take Metal Gear Solid and Xenoblade for example, two games that either focus on edgy murder and violence, or kiddy garbage and love and friendship.
See, they both fail because they're nothing more than cinematic experiences. The story isn't woven into the gameplay, but rather, it constantly interrupts the gameplay ever 5 seconds so you can be told what emotion to feel, or who to hate, and the game never lets you think for yourself. It's an abhorrent practice that only holds back the industry.
>mfw people defend games with 10+ hours of cutscenes
>Power of friendship is represented by literal sources of power or manifests as some kind of energy beam attack
>Power of friendship isn't demonstrated by party members supporting you with larger variety of skills and abilities
What are some games that actually use "The Power of Friendship", and not just determination or conviction or willpower?
>the power of friendship nearly got the world destroyed
Kingdom Hearts has metaphysical concepts become reality and affect thus. This is why determination and "I fight for my friends" works--especially true when you wield a magical weapon whose sole power relies on you having ties with others and gaining determination for their sake as well as yours.
Power of friendship makes perfect sense in settings where it actually affects shit and isn't some contrived asspull powerup at the last second. See the Persona series for another good example, where the entire point of the game is to gain power from social links.
Of course, it usually is done incredibly hamfistedly, so that's why it's panned universally unless done in a well-executed manner.
That's right. You got a problem with that, fag?
This nigga doesnt know the power of friendship
It's a shame people fucking drove the power of friendship into the dirt with decades of shitty kids shows. When it's done well then it's the coolest shit.
Tier list is
Good Power of Friendship>Good Edge>Shit Edge>Shit Power of Friendship.
>tfw prefer happy, cheerful stories over ones with deep intrigue and despair (don't mind sadness but there gotta be some joy at the end of the story)
>still like Tolkien style high fantasies, elves being uppity faggots and dwarves being bros typical shit but don't mind a few twists
I must be the most boring man ever.
If you do power of friendship you better defy the laws of the universe gurren lagann style, not "the power of friendship is just good enough to barely beat some boring faggot."
Like wonderful101 did it pretty well
>he doesn't like My Little Pony
>he loves edgy shit because he's a dirty ape that solves everything through violence
If you've spent a lot of time here and still stick by those tastes then you're far from boring. Alternative is the norm on /v/ -- liking Persona is ironically more boring than liking CoD.
Love is for homos anon, are you a homo?
>Villain is defeated by the power of friendship
>Returns and question how he lost
>Learns about the power
>Gets his own friends and uses the power against the protagonists
Why has this never happened?
There are a lot of ways to use your friends for power.
>final boss wasn't evil at all
>he had tons of friends and believed in justice
>but then you came
>kill all of the boss's friends, family, guards, workers, random passerbys etc
>defeat the boss
>"No! If you kill him you'll become like him!"
Persona 4 has the biggest power of friendship asspull. Persona 4 MC literally cannot do shit without his friends, and that's canon. Narukami is afraid of being alone and the idea of it causes him to breakdown
P3MC has the power of friendship but MC doesn't rely on them, he just knows they're important and values them, but he doesn't fear being alone. Movie touches on this more since they actually gave him a personality. Well it's just not the power of friendship, but the power of the whole universe
>"If you kill me you'll be just like me"
>Persona 4 has the biggest power of friendship asspull. Persona 4 MC literally cannot do shit without his friends, and that's canon. Narukami is afraid of being alone and the idea of it causes him to breakdown
Where does this come from?
Is it true ending? because my dumbass thought disco eyeball was the final boss and started NG+ before realizing I could've gone further
It's from the anime, golden, and the arena series.
In arena he goes on and on about how much his friends mean to him, and he hates being alone
in the OVA in the anime he loses the will to fight when he realizes he has to go back to the city and leave everyone
>The story isn't woven into the gameplay, but rather, it constantly interrupts the gameplay ever 5 seconds so you can be told what emotion to feel, or who to hate, and the game never lets you think for yourself. It's an abhorrent practice that only holds back the industry
>psycho-mantis' entire life is based around knowing what people are going to do
>when you break his predictions he's roughly as powerful as a normie
>grey fox tells snake he's not just a tool to be used by other people just before he's crushed by REX
>when you command snake to blow up grey fox with a stinger he refuses your order telling you it's wrong
>the entirety of mgs2 where there's more narrative in the gameplay than in codecs
>villain tells protag that he's a lazy faggot
>villain talks about how he's worked his ass off his entire life to get to his position and it's complete bullshit that a gaggle of faggots that got together last week are trying to stop his life's work
It didn't have the over the top powers of the other games and wasn't as colorful, I can see why people didn't like it. I'd like to see them do an advance wars 2 style system again but with the DoR piloting system, all the other CO power stuff after super CO powers got way out of hand. DoR I think also suffed from too much overlap in CO abilities, Tabitha and Lin served a somewhat similar role as the "strong CO zone but has to build it up" characters, Isabella overlapped with both Will and Gage, etc.
