>>324285117 It's quite fun, just don't treat it like any other normal shooter. If you need to be that guy who has to do the boring but important job like mining shit off or repairing buildings and repelling off SBHs, do it.
>>324285117 You can always play against bots to get the feeling of how game works. Bots aim quite well, but they lack strategy and coordination that you would see when playing with people. sadly some people on public servers play worse than bots would Or you can even remove bots and just explore the map to get familiar with terrain.
>>324286143 How do we kill EA? Consolefags and dudebros are keeping it alive and well. I would say that *whole* C&C community has to get together and demand EA releases C&C IP to some trusted developer/publisher or even to public. If that fails, we pull pic related on EA top executives.
>>324288818 Not as good as Tiberian Sun but showed that if EA cared enough, they could make a decent C&C game despite killing off Westwood. Them trying to push it as esports was kinda cancerous though.
>tfw you'll never have to submit your letter home to your folks through the GDI censor board. >tfw they'll never be blissfully ignorant of how bad the Tiberium infestation of the world is, or the creatures that lurk in the dead places of the world. >tfw you'll never be the only survivor in your platoon when a NOD Hunter Killer drone hits the APC while you're out taking a leak. >tfw you'll never be captured by NOD Terrorists, and brought back to be harvested for Cyborg production.
>>324288594 agree, EA aren't going to self-destruct themselves. They are pushing limits about how much can they exploit normies (when did we start shortening "normalfag"), but not to the point of any serious money income decline.
I would really like to see all C&C sub-communities start coming together, making a unified vision of what to happen with C&C in the future, and then get enough vocal about it to get response out of EA.
I do however fear that EA will start to think "O shit, even though we completely fucked up C&C there is still fanbase that we can exploit further"
>>324289335 CNCNet has a few links on there for singleplayer and configured to work mostly with modern systems. RA2 isn't there simply because EA didn't release it as freeware but you could just torrent that shit anyway.
>>324291885 It should be illegal to have so small playerbase for so great game. Why isn't this shit more popular? Is it too complex for normies to comprehend? mfw I would apply whole new layer of complexity onto existing one by adding base-building mechanics similar to Savage / Savage 2
>>324292552 Keep in mind how tough it is to attract new players to a game where their first match could: A) Last 230 minutes in an endless stalemate B) Last 10 minutes before getting crushed by the other team.
It also doesn't have the tactical gun mechanics everybody expects from shooters nowadays. It's an arcade shooter inside an RTS.
>>324292552 The initial publicity when it went public didn't help. It ran like shit and there were some serious bugs.
The aesthetic didn't appeal to people either, Tiberian Dawn and Renegade by extension, made it look like a generic shooter with its modern weaponry when it's really anything but that.
On top of that, how the game works is too abstract for many to comprehend. Things like mining buildings or keeping buildings up or repairing other player's vehicles or APC rushes didn't sit well with a lot of people.
Then you had people complain about "balance issues" like how they thought GDI was overpowered simply because they had stronger vehicles like mammoth tanks.
What >>324293338 said and lots of lots of shitposting and misinformation.
>>324293338 >It also doesn't have the tactical gun mechanics everybody expects from shooters nowadays. It's an arcade shooter inside an RTS. Dunno, I consider the gun mechanics quite enjoyable, just like good old fps.
>>324294054 Yeah, plus the DDOS frenzy that took down 3/4 of the servers (that was to be expected though. This game was easy prey). The community really has been fighting an uphill battle just to keep the game existing, nevermind populated.
But hell it is so worth it. I just had a match where I single-handedly C4d two enemy buildings to death after getting knocked down to one last structure and still lost the match when the enemy did a mass APC rush. You just never know what to expect in this game.
>>324294379 I mean things like aim bobbing for snipers, the fact that you can turn and strafe on a dime, and the fact that units can survive multiple headshots from most weapons. It is very enjoyable, especially in a classic fps sense, but a lot of people get put off by the thought of headshots being anything less than instant kills.
>>324295347 >headshots not being instant kills Well, headshots are still very important in Renegade X, especially with stuff like the pistol and rifle. But yeah Renegade X is fun as fuck, I remember the good times of turtling as nod and then sending out three infiltrators with nuke beacons >NUCLEAR STR- >NUCLEAR STR- >NUCLEAR STRIKE IMMINENT
>>324301345 You mean the original Renegade as opposed to RenX? As far as I'm concerned Renegade died when the guys behind RenGuard gave all units infinite ammo. Though the singleplayer campaign still has some great moments.
>>324302150 Fuck, original Renegade was something unique and fun even back then. It's too bad it died, along with any Renegade mods like A Path Beyond and whatever they called that Tiberian Sun mod. RenX is the only thing that's alive and even that's struggling very hard.
>>324302150 >it was my first online game ever, Mine too! Weird. Probably because it was one of the first online games that didn't make you go through a lot of BS setting up ports and stuff to play online.
RenX has about 100 regular players, about 40 playing on a full server most of the day. Only one or two servers are left but at least they're populated enough to give you a decent game.
>game start >loading a bunch of APCs with engineers and driving into the enemy power plant/watch tower ALLAHU ACKBAR I need to reinstall renegade X Such a good game that really focuses on team work where you really need to play the objective instead of just get kills.
>>324304720 >>324306407 >Back when Renegade just launched and servers still enabled friendly fire. >"NUCLEAR STRIKE BEACON DEPLOYED" >OH FUCK WHERE WHERE WHERE >Scour base, can't find a thing. >"NOD AIRSTRIP DESTROYED BY DUMBASS" >"Dumbass: You can nuke your own buildings?" >"Dumbass: gay gay gay gay gay" >"Dumbass has left the game"
It's not dead, it's just that very few companies still make any. And the fans for once are in fact to blame, because it just stopped being popular as a genre. Same thing happened to point-n-click adventure games
>>324311487 The same way things like Company of Heroes do it (or try to). Hard counters, etc.
If someone builds a huge blob of tanks you should just call in an artillery/air strike that wipes the whole thing. A more diverse and spread out mass of units would take much less damage for game reasons.
>>324312117 >They make an actually good game and you think "oh hey maybe they'll treat it right". C&C3 Mass Effect 2 Dead Space 2 System Shock 2 I liked all of those games and they're all EA. Then they betray me for trusting them.
>>324312117 You forgot Generals, which was just basically a no-name RTS that EA slapped the C&C name on for marketing purposes. It doesn't change that it was a really good game and got even better with the expansion.
>>324310050 I don't think the maps can get much bigger. As far as Unreal 3 maps go, they're massive. Plus when you lose all vehicles and have to make it to the enemy base on foot, you're pretty thankful it's a short hike.
>>324311487 Because units should be balanced, they should countered by other units. Hard counters in C&C were not that hard. To be fair it is still much better than blizzard games which are the worst when it comes to this, you literally always build a giant blob of zealots or huntresses or whatever and just throw them at the enemy and micro them. Not all old rts did this, for example aoe2 is a game that is unbalanced when it comes to civilization choice but when it comes to units it is fair. You will never get away with a deathball of cavalry for free against a competent player because halberdier destroy them.
What's everyone opinion on some of the newer RTS games? I absolutly loved planetary annihilation Play and beat gray goo, had loads of fun but the units felt way too same-y between factions I have next to no idea what I'm doing in act of agression Only played a tiny bit of etherium on a shitty laptop at sub 30FPS Having loads of fun with ashes of the singularity
