As with most bosses in the game, to trick is to keep him inflicted with as many status conditions as possible.
Despite what the guy beside him says, he doesn't actually have any weaknesses to fire. So don't waste all your firebombs, just enough to get him burned. Use Nern or Terry to make him pissed/crying, knock him down or stun him with Brad (just fireball if he's got withdrawal, since it uses SpA) and possibly poison with Olan. Then just lay into him with your most powerful attacks
Why do Joy Mutants make so uncomfortable? I've played many horror games but these guys always get me. Fuck.
> I only have Terry, though
then fucking look for more party members
how in the shit did you even get through the desert with just Brad and Terry?
I bet you're this guy
>poison does percent based damage
>only a few bosses are immune to it
im not even sure if this is a good or a bad thing
poison ticks almost always dealt more damage to bosses than all my crews attacks combined
4th cave, kill Rando guys in order to open the way to the engine, then make a couple firebombs.
Try to keep him disabled, beating bosses in Lisa is all about stacking status effects.
If you're interested in the game, and haven't beaten it get the fuck out of this thread until you finish it.
how much did you cry at the end? My party was Bo, Shocklord and Harvey. The whole party fight had me in tears "Bo plays a familiar song"
Painful ending was depressing as fuck but Joyful got me much harder
Party member fight wasnt that bad for me either, I had Ajeet, Birdie and Olan so 2 drunkards and a man with no remorse were relatively easy to dispose of Brads skills eventually turning more and more into joy mutant skillset was a very nice touch
> leave him alone
I had to lie down for a few minutes after that
On my first playthrough, I went with Hard mode.
I had Birdie, Mad Dog and Rage by the end. I didn't really get in tears for the party fight since Brad wanted to be alone since the beginning and never trusted anyone. I felt mostly like shit for Brad, and hesitantly gave him a hug. Joyful through? God damn my tears were flowing when fighting Brad.
Wally. This fucker actually made me ragequit on my first playthrough.
I am. Ninja Tears or whatever? I'm hoping for good stuff but I honestly don't think it will be more depressing than Lisa.
"One last drink for the working man."
"Guys I don't want to fight Brad!"
"Brad, the day I met you was the best day in my life."
>mfw that last one
>mfw the "depression" note in Joyful
Nah, I just felt really sad. I thought I got the bad ending, then I learned that
there are no good endings. Just endings that aren't as bad as the others
The whole bit right while you're fighting the army and Brad's shit changes up was disturbing though. Suddenly he goes from a calculated fighter to an animal, and there's nothing you can do.
Also when you learn that Rando is his son it's a bit feelsy
In fact, the feelsy bits came when you find Buddy for the first time and you get the impression that she doesn't want to be taken home.
>When Brad finds him he was standing on a cliff
>He had already traveled the world and stopped there
>He put a ballon on the cliff to stop people from jumping
>He always tries to help people even in his darkest moments
When I worked it out I got sad as fuck
Meeting Brad really WAS the best day of his life
>yfw the music changes from this
Why couldn't Dingaling just throw Brad a fucking bone in Joyful, man? Instead he has him tortured as a goddamn mutant by Buzzo for the entire goddamn game
Ugh, that thing fucked me up bad.
Made me super nervous of all the cave areas after that.
>"Oh shit this is my jam!"
>"Hold on doesn't this play when you fight joy m-"
>tfw you know where it's going
Kinda wished there was another game around Lisa herself.
She was a right piece of work.
Well, Brad didnt exactly raise her to be a proper lady and spending your whole childhood locked up with a violent drug addict might do something to your psyche
Brad did the right thing though, only thing he and Buddy both did wrong was not trusting Rando more
>Follow anon's tips
>Finally defeat boss
>Get bike and go back
>Get kill by snek
She still is flashing her chest.
Do the campfire rng factors change during the game by the way? At the start of the game I lost a guy almost every time I slept at a campfire but towards the end all I got was creeps farting on me and even a gift
It doesnt really add anything to the big picture other than explaining who Lisa and Marty are and is more of an ambiguous exploration game
Try it if youre curious about the series, its free after all and only takes a couple of hours to complete
all you need to know is
Lisa is the little girl you see hanging on the title screen. She is Brad's sister and was abused and raped by her father Marty until she commits suicide.
Yeah, it's like an hour long.
>Not playing painful on painful mode
1st crossroads: Rest at the tent after Columbo, you will lose some SP and luck once but isn't important
2nd crossroads: Inn, costs 10 mags, you can get that by beating a single shadow, also you can get a party member by resting there 4 times.
3rd crossroads: Rest at the EWC for free
i picked pain mode when i first played and boy did i feel stupid
i still beat it but FUCK walking off a cliff and losing like 2 and 1/2 hours of shit.
once I got the keys i just backtracked to the inns that are safe.
LISA had some pretty cool music and tones.
To be fair, if you was raped on a daily base and had a brother who didnt do anything, you would be messed up mentally and psychologically too.
>YOU CAN'T BE A DAD ALL OF THE SUDDEN
Fuck you, Buddy. I protected you from the entire horny world, I lost both of my arms, I was forced to eat joy, had to kill my horny pals, all of this so I could protect you from everyone wanting to rape you.
>I'm going to miss drinking with ya.
>One last drink for the workin' man
>Goodnight, dear friend.
>Olan spends several turns crying
>Birdie is the last one alive because he only attacked me like twice for less than 200, his main move was 'Birdie Hall doesn't want to do this'
>fuck up doing the army fight so have to fight them again
>Mad Dog is crying deeply
>Olan Hoyt doesn't want to do this
Yeah, certain enemies can permakill anyone who isn't Brad. And theres no real way to stop it so you either just reload or go on without that person.
For me as long as it wasn't Terry Id just keep going.
>Brad, when I met you it was the best day of my life...
>I wanted her since the beginning, what did you expect from us Brad?
>.... .... Brad....
Second playthrough (to get kind of selfish ending) and it still hurts erry time.
I know a girl who suffered the same as Lisa, had to even get stitches, and didn't turn out into the crazy suicidal mess Lisa did. She just didn't have a brother - it was her mother who did nothing.
During the Satan fight I only lost Birdie so I had to reload, fuck that shit I ain't leaving the most OP character to rot in a man named Mike's truck. Managed to beat him second time party unharmed (not dead at least)
Anyone who isn't Brad will die forever if hit by one. If you're fighting a Joy Mutant, Fatal Chomp will bite their head off and kill them unless it's Brad or Buckets, but IIRC Buckets is still able to be permadeath'd by Satan.
>no choice end up sleeping at campfire
>bike gang steals mah bro
>try to go ransom him, happened earlier with Birdie so if it's mags we cool
>everyone is dead
>rex thunderstorm holding his motorcycle
>party member has been reduced to hunk of meat
>can't save them EVER if kidnapped by bike gang
Was about to post this.
Body horror is really freaky and in Lisa they're twisted and morphed in a way that's not too far but just far enough to be disconcerting. Plus you don't know what's going on with them unless you figure it out because it's kind of obvious.
Suits has a reference to both LISA and OFF
Its actually pretty crap sadly.
I finished LISA and holy shit. That game is an experience. Now I'm playing The Joyful. I saw that Joy makes the game easier and if you don't use it it's much harder but I don't want Buddy to turn into a mutant. No spoilers pls.
I discovered it by myself. It's great, because riding the bike while entering homes and during important scenes look absolutely ridiculous, not to mention for Brad to be the only guy in a bike in save states.
He doesn't jump when I do it.
I like to classify Joy Mutants as "silly putty humans" since unlike other mutants in games, they don't grow new limbs or things like that, but instead they bloat out or stretch in ways the human body shouldn't go.
ANother thing that I find creepy is how they take turns to scream or cry, as if they're aware of what they've become.
The final "boss" of Joyful really got to me.
I was hoping to fight Buzzo in the end for all he did in Painful. But because of his regrets about what happened, the heavy implications that Lisa's influence drove him made, and that he mutated, gave me a sort of "This isn't how I wanted to win" sort of feeling.
If Brad wasn't a shit he could have given Buddy to Rando and joyned up and been leader of the army, had a good life, saved the world, ensured Buddy's safety, and gone unchallenged for the rest of his life
You mean, break your neck, right?
Spoony Sidewalk Vee is the guy who can do it even on Normal Mode, along with the Joy Mutant Peter on Snowy Mountain. Peter is also the only Joy Mutant with TWO insta-kill moves, so he is going to use those often.
If you sold out Terry Hintz at the start, he will also make use of Neck Breaker in his boss fight.
On Painful Mode, some of the earlier boss fights also have a fatal Neck Breaker move. Those include Crack Ripper, both those Indian guys after the first Crossroads, and both of the Reds after the first Crossroads as well if their HP gets too low for all of those bosses in Painful Mode.
I thought it was interesting how the mutants give in to their deepest, often violent desires when mutating
Gives some context to why some mutants seem sated after killing their fair share of people, since they might have been people the mutant hated when they werent mutated yet. Also explains why
mutated Brad is seen trying to hopelessly escape captivity to save Buddy instead of trying to kill his jailor
It's not like she said to him "torture my brother until he breaks and beyond". Yeah, it was instrumental for his Bradhate and his chopping limbs fetish, but se didn't orchestrate the whole thing.
It was Buzzo who said that he only hated and hurt Brad because he wanted someone to blame that wasn't himself. Marty wasn't really available so Brad became his target.
It's better to not know who Lisa was and be confused through the game until you play the First in my opinion. Even though it's obvious that that girl is Lisa you don't know what happened to her.
That makes sense. I interpreted that scene as being a bunch of memories from when they were kids.
You could argue that the item pool belonged to the whole group and was necessary for their survival or something like that.
Terry left my party in my game. I believe it was for the best, better than killing him by the end or losing him midway to some mutant or a nasty foul. I believe he regained his purpose after spending time with Brad and the others and went on to leave hints through out the land.
Farewell, my friend. You don't know how right was your choice to take distance from the party. I pity him discovering everything later, but at least he gets to take Buddy out from the killing cycle by distracting her with a game and giving her closure.
>flashback at the end of pain mode
>brad just leaves after seeing dusty sitting there
>Holy shit Tiger Man is too powerful. I'll come back when I'm stronger
>Aw man I don't have enough to buy the map from that guy's yard sale. I'll come back later.
What I never understood is why did Brad basically disown Rando? We know he was Rando's surrogate father for a while, but after the face cutting incident it seems he basically decided to deny that he ever knew Rando.
He even tells Buddy when asked that he never had a son.
>Check guide to see if I missed something during my second playtrough
>Guy that wrote the guide said there is a rumor about Brad being able to overcome his joy addiction
Is this true, bros? Seems like one of those "that kid" stories. After all this game has been datamined already, there can't be secret stuff left.
Rick, Cheeks and Sticky are the best uncles ever.
Guys, this is getting too spoilery, I'm off. Thanks for the tips.
Yeah, but he just acts so cold about it. He didn't do anything for Rando after it happened. He didn't comfort him or say anything. He just walked out. I almost got the feeling that he was ashamed of Rando for letting it happen
What did Brad do to Buddy that was so awful other than giving her people to kill which is pretty bad but in the beginning when Buddy is painting their faces she seemed happy enough though that was before. Keeping her in the house sucks but it's not the worst thing ever.
damn nigga, how long have you been here?
shoulda left after the first few posts
Well he was pretty unavailable to her during his drug binges. We don't know exactly how he treated her while high but we do see her crying in the basement while hes doing Joy, so it probably wasn't that well.
But man, she's the only girl alive in a world of perverts and assholes.
He did it for her.
She became an insufferable cunt, even to Rando, for no real reason.
If there is something I got about Brad is that he blames himself for everything. That's what happens when you have a father like Marty.
He is cold about it because that's the only way he manages to deal with everything, he wants to stay alone, blaming himself. I'm sure he doesn't blame Rando nor he hates him. Brad hates himself and he probably thought that Rando would have been safer without him around.
After the shit she went through, as like a 10-ish year old girl, is it that hard to believe that she would be an asshole to people?
>Forced to live in a basement for your entire life
>Gotta do it with your dad getting high all the time and being negligent
>Finally get to escape only to find everybody wants to use you for something
>Most want to rape you
>One guy cuts off your hits you and cuts off your nipple just to spite your dad you ran away from
>Another guy cuts out your eyeball
>You put your trust in one guy that he wants to help you
>Some dudes lock you into another room while wanting to use you for something (might as well be living under your house again)
>Turns out your friend was in on it
She had a lot of reasons to be bitchy
Sure some of it isn't reasonable, but once again she is like a 10 year old girl. 10 year olds aren't exactly well known for being super reasonable.
What's the point of Peter even having so many instant kill attacks? You're like 20 minutes from the end of the game at that point and they gotta punch me in the dick by taking away my bros I spent the whole game with? I wasn't even aware they had instant kill attacks until that point either.
Well I mean you are kind of drowning in alternate party members, most of whom are viable on some level, so unless you just get really fucked by RNG you shouldn't have a situation where its impossible to proceed.
> if you sell Joy to the merchant with the cupboard on his back
he turns into a mutant
Not to mention that half of that happens when she has ultra military grade drugs flowing through her veins. All the gore and mutilated corpses probably weren't good for her psychi either, especially seeing her armless father descend into an unfathomable rage and literally slaughter an entire army before having a fist fight with his adopted son.
No, I meant Toby is still in your inventory after you recruit Crisp.
And I believe he even had a price under the sell menu at stores but I never did it, so I just wondered if something happens if you do
Holy shit really?
Well theres the end of the Painful where we see mutant Brad moving towards a sleeping Buddy slowly with the implications hes gonna try to kill her.
Without the Joyful expansion its a pretty grim ending
>A game where you can flash your loli chest with one missing nipple possibly to people and get them flustered
>Letting Buddy get her nipple cut off
Anyways. Also do they ever say how old buddy is? I mean if she has the Rando mask or any other mask for that matter how do the enemy get flustered? Unless she had noticeable mounds
Satan is not a warlord, he just wants to be left alone in his truck, not rule the wastes. But people keep hearing about "The Devils Machine" thinking their badass enough to take on whatever monster is in there.
I never though of it this way, still I think Joyful should've last longer to made Buddy's development more believable, since you turn invincible thanks to selfheal + group poison attack
This line gets me every time.
BURN IN HELL
not really, don't care for college sports
>hear the music
>suddenly see Brad
>see him with the makeup Buddy put on him and tries to hug you
>feel nothing but complete sadness as the whole thing went on
no I mean theres a part near the beginning where terry asks you which difficulty setting you want. i chose pain. and although i dont need it yet im wondering if theres a way to change it to normal if i wanted?
>Playing as slut Buddy
Anything in the game that has to do with corrupting Buddy's purity makes the game significantly easier.
You're not casual slut, are you anon?
> The Nobody is a failure
> The Nobody hates himself
> The Nobody hits himself
He just wanted Lisa's sweet puss puss.
I'm playing Lisa the First right now. Pretty crazy shit, creepy exploration game.
It's confusing though, I don't know what to do. Explored everything, found a bunch of things and dunno what to do with them.
I wasn't a fan of how Buddy developed in the Joyful, but the final sequence against Rando and Brad got to me
Hard to imagine it topping how far the Lisa series went, but I've heard it'll have its own taboos and themes to explore.
This guy scared the fuck out of me when he popped up and gave me anxiety for the next hour.
I would have been more fine with Buddy's descent into a murder frenzy if she hadn't started out berating Rando and killing a pacifist leader with zero hesitation or remorse.
It's just a jarring leap from how she was during The Painful.
Yeah, I played Painful first before Lisa, so at that point I retracted since I was in front of Buddy.
I killed the Uncles, killed three of my teammates instead of letting her nipple go, and pretty much went for what Brad thought was right to protect Buddy.
If I actually knew about the first game, I would have killed the bastard as well
Holy fucking shit, somebody saved my image
from the OG Lisa generals
Today is a good day
>thought Dingaling was a Kamiya-tier dick after hearing that he talked shit about some of the backer characters
>check his Twitter
>he's actually a really nice person
What a pleasant surprise.
>Playing The Joyful
>Find Terry's home
>In The Painful my Terry got abducted and I didn't know how to save him
>He's gone, possibly dead, and his team didn't come for him
>His only friend
>that whole scene where Buddy confronts her memories of Brad
He fucked up, but he always loved her from the bottom of his heart.
>The Nobody hates himself.
God damn it.
I'm still really upset at how much more popular Undertale is
Just because you like something doesn't mean the rest of the world should. I learned this with my group of friends. A lot of what I like is totally lost on them, so I just learned to keep it dear to myself. What does it matter if they don't like it like I do? What's important is that I love it.
While I would agree that Lisa's underrated, it's probably to be expected that a game exploring the psychological themes of rape, drug abuse, and body horror, probably isn't going to garner the same style of mainstream attention that a feel-good game like Undertale is going to.
>Doing second run of Lisa
>Stuck on the Roulette
Fuck this RNG shit. I don't want to lose more than 3 members but it keeps deciding to fuck my shit up. Everything was fine on my first run, why can't I repeat my luck this time?
