Let's talk about Resident Evil 0 instead. Been years since I played it. I remember liking it and I remember my friends hating them because they had mostly test-subject-animals as enemies.

Leech Zombies genuinely scared me because of the music that plays when they appear and they always jump out from some place outside of the camera, really effective.
Then I accidently got eaten by a frog (Lurker) which is really hard to do because they are normally shiteasy to avoid, but it happened and the death scene was fucking horrorfying for some reason.

they generally have really good atmospheres meanwhile as it balances the game controls from RE4 with added vulnerability to the characters - it is very easy to get hit once, almost die and immeaditaly need to use a herb.

They make me feel enthusiastic with every new revelations entry because they are furthering the new-and-old-formula and the results are pretty pleasing. I really enjoyed Revelations 2. It even had key-item-scavenging hunting and a few puzzles.

Common enemies are not bad, just more varied than in the first game.

Where the game falls short is the bosses department: they're extremely forgettable and most of them seem very out of place, as if they were put in just to fill a quota. And the main villain is lame.

However there are certain things that require both characters to be present. I don't think they make it significantly harder. Several zombies are pretty easy to dodge. For the ones that aren't, just make sure you either blow their heads off or burn their bodies if they're in an area you'll be coming back to a lot, such as stairways and certain corridors.

RE 6, upon reflecting on the experience, was a lot of good and interesting mechanics in a genre and series where it didn't belong.

It also incorporated (I remember seeing a dev say they wanted the COD audience before release and anticipating the game being bad) a lot of dumb set pieces you'd find in COD, QTEs that were fucking awfully implemented. Stupid story and writing can be forgiven I guess as they're series staples practically.

The game's mechanics were just all over the place, some even worked against each other. The whole machine felt dysfunctional.

But for all that being said, it was a great looking game, animations were top notch. The amount of control you had over characters (the diving, shooting from prone, etc.) was great, but combined with low FOV (for some, I think you can crank it up on PC) it was nauseating at times. And while there's a lot of content, a lot of it just goes on and on, for much too long.

Regarding release order, sort of. Resi 1 can be completely skipped in favour of REmake and Zero can be played after it, but after that it's advisable to play in release order.

Revelations is pretty good, imo. Outbreak is amazing, but I don't know if you can still play online. Think you can emulate it and set something up, but I'm not sure.

6 is trash. I played through it completely and enjoyed it, but it's not only a bad RE game, it's hands-down a bad game. It has decent gunplay mechanics and raid mode is kinda neat, but other than that there's no point in playing it unless you've got time to kill with a friend
