ITT: shitty party members
I'll start with this overrated trash
>choosing healing over big damage and megaelixers
>Marle specializes in healing
>Only has single heals
>Frog and Robo both have full party heals on their own
>Lucca only deals damage and nothing else
>Every other character has better utility and can deal damage just as well (except Marle)
It feels like the creators forgot about balancing the base party to fit in with the new members.
Marle is by far the weakest character in the game
Haste is made redundant by items/omen tabs
Healing is not needed one you have the speed
She does pathetic damage
Boney is the item user. Because of his speed he'll always be your first character to move, which makes him perfect for emergency heals, using offensive items, or removing enemy shields. Each character in Mother 3 has a role and they're all useful in their own way aside from some of the one-off characters.
Now if you'd posted Poo from Earthbound, then I would've agreed.
>healing is not needed
Poo is better than Paula though. PK Freeze and whatnot is redundant when Starstorm exists. That, and being able to recover most of his PP with just a single bottle of water is pretty great.
He would be great if he was actually present in your party for once, he will inevitably fall behind in levels
also you get PK Starstorm 2 when it doesnt matter anymore since almost all enemies that are left have reflect on by default
Frog's MT heal is better than Robo's for a long time because his magic stat is way higher. When you pump Robo's magic stat, then yeah, he heals better.
But early game, you need Frog's heals more, and if you have Ayla in your party, you're taking advantage of Slurp Kiss to heal HP as well as status effects. But yeah, by the end of the game, Robo is better than Frog.
>He would be great if he was actually present in your party for once, he will inevitably fall behind in levels
He doesn't need levels when he has Starstorm and decent HP and speed.
>also you get PK Starstorm 2 when it doesnt matter anymore since almost all enemies that are left have reflect on by default
So what if they have reflect? Neutralizer exists, you know.
Did anyone actually level her?
>Cool looking pirate guy joins the party
>He is just a shit tier version of Tyrell
Useless party member thread?
At least she had
>Fastest party member
>In a game where every spell comes in item form and heals are set numbers
>Learns AOE skills that can be used turn 1 of fights
As cool as Gilder is, he's the most useless.
>speed is inconsistent
>items are better than magic
>her aoe is usually the worst thing ever/most enemies are immune to magic
Gilder has tons more survivability/damage as well as a protection of all status effects (exhaust from black looper farming)
You might as well just post pic related.
In a game where 90% of the party members are awful, this guy takes the cake for being the worst. He's so bad it almost feels like the devs put him in as a joke since he is the most difficult member to recruit
Dropped him as soon as I could.
Are there any good native archers in RPGs?
It's not that inconsistent, Aika will move first 99% of the time.
Items being better than magic is what i meant. Her stats don't mean shit when she can through out a sacrum crystal first.
There are barely any enemies immune to magic in SoA, which doesnt even matter as Aikas skills aren't even magic.
She's a buff/heal character as most fast ones are. Curing exhaust is barely a set back
I don't think I've ever seen anyone use her.
Technically none of the loopers are completely magic immune.
There are 2 loopers that aren't immune to fire attacks.
Still, that's because of the fire element resistance and not because her skill is magic. S.Moves don't count as the magic.
To deal damage with this man, you have to wait an absurd amount of time to charge him up. Even then, his damage is average. Overall, he's a waste of time and space.
Amelia is fucking top tier
Franz is alright if you meant him but not by any means terrible
if you're going for a low-turn-count run, or a S rank run, Nino obviously is worthless, but since I cleared all the maps out and did all the bonus maps every time I always ended up with a squad of Lv.20/20 dudes even if I babied Nino
This. Thief should have been able to steal spells or something to make himself useful. Like, make his advanced job able to steal enemy turns or abilities so he has a unique and useful mechanic. Shit woulda been cool as fuck if he could rob Chaos of spells/turns thereby giving the party ample opportunities to heal/fight. Ninja is a shit.
why do people complain about Zelos but not Kratos?
they play exactly the same
comparing to the the two of them, Sheena is beyond useless have no damage output and having no variety of moves
Collett is also shit until endgame where she can just spam spells with Genis and Raine
I am so fucking disappointed there hasn't been a turn based game that does this. I swear I've seen shit like that in Mario RPGs where characters that are considered crooks or thieves can steal your ability to attack or use items but that isn't allowed to be a skill on a thief party member. Even Bravely Default, the game that has like 20 different ways to break it, features this
I want a thief where they can steal fucking anything instead of "fast guy with knife that sometimes steals something"
>why do people complain about Zelos but not Kratos?
>they play exactly the same
Zelos has the worst personality, a shit personality, and the worst reasons to betray the party (llolololo I am joining the winning side. My reaction "join them in hell")
Thieves in Tactics Advance can steal abilities and it's hardly excting.
What you are describing sounds like a very restricted variation of blue magic
or Vampire's genome drain from Bravely Default.
also Gar and Nina from Breath of Fire 3
anyone who says Donald in KH1 is terrible is a shitter that's too lazy to customize Donald's attack settings, give him spare equipment or probably was retarded enough to give him the staffs that lower MP
It might not be the most efficient way but it made every fight trivial by doing
Haste on everyone -> attack with everyone -> heal everyone to full after enemy has attacked -> repeat until enemy is dead
You wont even run out of mana because lmaoGoldStud
Every fight in the game is trivial with any party setup as long as you're not legally brain dead. This is why discussions about character tiers in the game are dumb: it doesn't fucking matter who you use.
>Ever doing things casual and lazy like and never aiming for the most optimal and precise way to victory
Do you ever win at anything you do? No, of course not. You're just trying to feel good about yourself while being a failure and the only way you can really try to take the high ground is to try to make it out like there's a greater meaning to taking it easy, when in reality you're just a lazy ass who gets attached to things that aren't real and is chances are a wage slave wishing he could win the lottery to escape. It's that kind of thinking that ensures you'll never be the 1%
Marle is the worst party member in the game. Her focus on healing techs only is overkill when you could use a generalist like Frog or Robo who can do good damage and also have healing techs.
In fact, Crono + Marle + Frog is probably the worst party in the game.
> Waste of time and space.
Not really. He has the best STR rating in the game, so keep raising that with espers and when you get the illumina, give him that by using the merit award + black belt + back row. In 2/3 party dungeons, have Terra/Celes/Cyan as your Illumina users, Edgar/Mog = dragoon, Locke/Setzer = offering setups.
By doing this you can leave behind Gau and Umaro. Gau can be okay but takes an absurd amount of time to build up late-game and isn't controllable, and Umaro is just uncontrollable garbage.
That is unless you are a faggot who just gives ultima to everyone, then your party doesn't matter.
Chrono Trigger character rankings:
Crono > Ayla > Robo = Frog > Lucca > Magus > Marle
Yes, Magus is shit. No dual techs and needs to use an accessory to do triple techs. His shadow magic damage is underwhelming, fire/ice/lightning 2 are garbage by the time you get him, and he has low physical attack.
> Ruined RE5
Bitch is useless. Wish the game didn't require a shitty computer controlled partner all the time.
Why is Lucca that low? She's the most effective character for cleaning up weak enemies with high magic and fire 2. The high magic stat also makes her really useful for powerful dual/triple techs.
> cleaning up weak enemies
Why do you need to 'clean up weak enemies?' How is that at all useful?
She's that low because she has low physical attack like Marle. She has ok to good magic damage so long as the enemy is weak to fire, but has really poor physical attack capabilities and has no healing magic to compensate.
Frog and Robo are jacks-of-all-trades with both good physical and healing attacks, and they work well with complementing Ayla.
Physical skills were severely downgraded from Nocturne, too. You were better off giving one or two physical attacks to jack-of-all-trades characters like Serph or Gale than using a specialist.
Still, he's a shit-ton more useful than Cielo was in the first game.
These fuckers right here, every time I run into one they don't know what their doing. Even if they did their damage is shit since their playing a hard scaling % based classes without a +12 or higher.
>implying I don't know magus is shit
>implying I won't use him anyways
He can spam the tier 2 spells a whole bunch which is something I guess.
she really turns into a useless piece of shit later on in the game, chrom's better
This old fart.
>Doesn't excel in damage
>Cecil and I believe Yang have higher health than him
>Has 0 MP, so that cuts his options down further if you were planning to give him some Augments in the DS version
>Only saving grace is the ability to Analyze all enemies at once
If you think Edward's bad, that's kind of unfair considering how long you get him for. Cid is just a filler party member that sucks at everything.
As shit as Chie is at least she has some use until you get Kanji.
Marle has Haste and insanely powerful Dual Techs. Frog is legitimately the worst because he's a jack of all trades and master of none. Second worst is Lucca because she brings nothing to the team other than fire damage.
>get them early on in the game
>no magic and only a couple mediocre special techniques
>assumed they were supposed to be the heavy-hitter, but they had less abilities and weaker stats than Cray
>when I got to Woren, put them on Una so that she could boost their physical stats, their magical abilities were non-existant, so I didn't care about the magic stats decreasing
>still pretty useless, and their actual physical attacks miss too often to be useful
>later on in the game, recieves a massive buff from a storyline event
>because I made their master Una, their actual Wisdom stat sucks and doesn't even have enough AP to cast anything
>put them off Una as soon as I realized, but the damage had already been done
>now stuck in a purgatory between being too weak for physical attacks, but being too lame for magical
>tfw permanent backseat
Fuck Ershin. They literally have no point whatsoever in the game.
If I wanted to hit hard, I would use Cray. If I prefer magic, then I would use Nina/Ursula. If I wanted a mixture of both, I would use Ryu/Scias.
Ershin has no point other than to be a permanent EXP leech the whole game.
>In fact, Crono + Marle + Frog is probably the worst party in the game.
That's the party I use most of the time (re: when I'm not forced to use Ayla to steal missables) and the game is still piss easy.
You don't know SHIT about useless characters.
>first real boss who can fuck you up
>game saddles you with a shitty character
Kongol was fine, he was just slow as fuck. And you need to go out your way to actually get his Dragoon spirit earlier or he's always lagging behind. Just put a speed accessory on him and you have a tough as nails tank.
So you can get his wife later on and so they can produce one of the best spear wielders in the series overall come Suikoden 3.
He's good enough to still be overpowered. A lot of the other cast is just better though. He's a good character stuck in a game filled with overpowered characters. If you really want a crappy character in a game filled with overpowered party members look at Garr from BoF 4. He's utterly useless. The only thing that's decent about him is that he gets his most powerful weapon a lot earlier than anyone else. But it drains your life and Momo will still hit harder with a regular attack, not to mention with with shadowwalk which makes her attacks hit 100% of the time.
Nina's more like the Frog of BoF 3 though. She's an average party member stuck in a game filled with OP party members. Although even then, the contrast between her and every other party member besides Garr is still more jarring than comparing Frog to Crono or Robo.
Be careful not to slip on all that shit shitposter.
>Can Max every stat except HP
>Can learn the strongest magic available in the game
>She doesn't depend fusion unlike every other character
I am such an RP fag that I was constantly swapping my party members around so they all got an equal share of the action...in theory.
In reality, It was close, but I never used Jacob, he was just too overshadowed by the rest. He should have been able to use rifles and shotguns, as he is a defensive biotic and could have held a position very well.
I also never used Kasumi and Liara in 2 because I caught onto the Mass Effect train two years after 3 came out.
I don't really "like" Yosuke but Garudyne has the fastest animation to any top level AoE elemental spell.
Combine that with his Wind Boost and Wind Amp skills and the battles seem to end in seconds.
At least she doesn't stay shit from the very beginning like a certain someone
they added a new dungeon in the GBA version on Mt Ordeals dude to the game allowing Yang, Cid, Edward, and the twins to join the final battle.
So this new dungeon has their really good equipment on par with the moon stuff for everyone else
Ershin can be used as a Transfer tank for Ryu since it has the highest Concentration points
it regens 20+ AP on the backrow every turn for crying out loud
best Ershin is HP+DEF+AP tank Ershin
The characters in P3/4 who focus on Hama or Mudo attacks (Koro, Ken, Naoto) are generally more useless. If that focus towards insta deaths moves were put towards literally anything else they would be more useful, as they skills are just generally not of use in Persona or even SMT as a whole in my experience.
I've always been a unique individual and the mere fact that Frog was "cool" at all, that people liked him? Made me shy away from him. Chrono Trigger is a hard game to like anyway because it's so popular and I want to be interesting, people meme all over Robo, the ultra weebs like Magus, and the perverts like Ayla. The safe options are Marle and Lucca, but people will think I like them because they're cute instead of because they're the least popular.
Edward is my favourite character in the GBA version. He goes so fast that in the time Cecil takes to get one turn, he'll get 2 and a bit. It's ridiculous. His Hide is great, because it he's fast enough to quickly duck out of an incoming attack if you time it right. He does ludicrous damage to most enemies in the Moon, because he gets multipliers on them. He'll probably deal more than Cecil in there. It's pretty fun. Also he can get 99 in all stats.
He's a bit less fun in After Years unfortunately, but who isn't?
I played with Crono, Robo, and Frog. They had good healing and they are the only characters I noticed who gave me triple tech. Though later the triple tech wasn't very useful as frenzy+rapid punch took off more damage in a turn. While Frog took decent damage though considerably less with aerial strike. Also frog was my favorite character.
Angelo has Multiheal and Twin Falcon Slash, he's great. If you go Bows he gets an All Enemy attack. Yangus is actually the weakest overall party member in the game, Hero beats his strength at later levels and Angelo and Jessica are both better in boss fights, and his healing and attack options are both worse than them. He's still the best character in the game though, and he's one of the two characters who get critical hit moves for Metal Slime hunting.
naoto was far from useless though. In the original she handled trashmobs like nothing and the dungeon right after you get her is riddled with dark/light weak mobs that are immune to everything else, give her the sp half accessory and she made dungeons obsolete. She was a bit mediocre in boss fights but MC could more than make up for that and she could still spam megido spells while having no weakness. In golden she was by far the best party member hands down and in PersonaQ she was even more broken.
She's not useless, but overrated indeed.
She has average stats before level 50, and the game usually ends at levels 35-45 of your party. She's good because she starts at 35 while your party is 20 so her stats are automatically better than anyone's and that there are Death, Might, Exit and Warp among her spells. But it won't take long until other characters reach her experience. Either, not every time you will wipe entire groups with offensive magic, you will have to buff your teammates. Let alone she can't do shit against bosses but buff and heal. Her damage to bosses with spells isn't comparable to what Ryu does with dragons/physicals and Katt with physicals while buffed. She falls apart once shaman Katt, shaman Sten and shaman Jean are available, who can rush through the last dungeon without any casualties if used correctly.
Bosses are really the only thing you have to worry about in Persona anyway, the dungeons are easy no matter who use. I played the original however, if I ever play Golden I will give her another try, as well as when I play q, as the dungeons probably will be more difficult in that game than in the Personas.
I never got why so many people recommend him. Cid I get, he's great, but Vincent did more to hinder your progress than anything else with his stupid limit breaks. I guess FFVII really did attract edgy teens when it came out.
>even his ultimate form is weak to the final boss
>Bosses are really the only thing you have to worry about in Persona anyway
Sure but trashmobs make up a much much much larger part of the game and naotos instakill moves sped up that part considerably in the original, so much that her somewhat lower boss DPS was an ok tradeoff (you only needed good MC personas for that anyway)
In golden naoto is strong because she can learn elemental dyne spells, gets heat riser, mind charge and invigorate 3 while still no weakness in sight.
PersonaQ in general makes instakill moves stupid good and naoto has both high speed and high luck making her the best character in the game by a good amount.
>get to final boss
>You and me, we are different from your friends, we are gods!
>nobody mentions Ershin is a god too
I was about to say that Fou Lu didn't know about Deis' existence, but then I remembered that Fou Lu DID look into Ryu's memories
so maybe, Fou Lu ignored Deis because her summoning was incomplete?
Not even trying.
This nigga gets it.
>implying Frog with masamune isn't the best damage dealer right after Crono
ToS has literally two characters I like. Him and Sheena.
He was a good fighter if equipped accordingly. And he's one of the most interesting party members.
>Frog with Masamune
>Not Robo with Crisis Arm
>or Apocalypse Arm
