What games let you shoot up medieval knights with modern firearms, or blast Industrial Revolution era forces with sci-fi weapons? The only thing that comes to mind is Darkest of Days, which didn't really take the idea far enough.
I know RTSs do it a lot, but I did mostly mean more action oriented stuff. Plus in RTSs, don't the civilisations tend to advance at simliar speeds, for the most part? That what's I found in the Age of Empire games anyway.
>Also expect .jp ultranationalism to the degree that's usually reserved for USians.
It's kind of nuts how many faggots on /a/ get triggered by this series, it's literally nothing but /pol/-esque shitposting now. If you're not still butthurt over WWII or are able to undertand that people from other nations can also have the concept of patriotism, it really shouldn't be an issue.
>Implying anyone but crossboarders complain
>Implying it's not just funposting
Though between shitposting, "Read the Non Source Material" and "I prefer the furry manga designs", Gate threads are absolute cancer.
>badly trained japanese defense force can jump into the middle of a battle with a bayonnet affixed on a rifle and kill shit tons of trained warriors with it.
the manga itself was dumb, i don' want to imagine the anime, everything they do in the manga is a decisive victory with no losses.
Gate is the kind of bullshit i imagined when i was 6 years old playing with plastic green soldiers vs medieval knights from my toy box, it's a fucking show for kids targeted at teens and older.
It's loud and people fall down in front of them in a magical way.
Unless their nervous systems is in shock after 9 years of coma the basic human instinct of flight should kick in.
I've seen good Gate threads. I'm not looking forward to the faggots complaining about the anime getting dragontits' design wrong.
It is, actually. Or are you one of those faggots who complains about modern shooters being rascist?
>badly trained japanese defense force
Palace goons who probably got out of actual warfare by smoozing with the Prince != trained warriors. You can tell that they're complete idiots from the way they attack without any coordination and get picked off one by one.
It's pretty goofy. Really, it's less about NIPPON BANZAI and more about trouncing the not-Roman Empire with modern warfare. The bit where they manage to pick off the CIA is a bit much, but then it's established that they had a massive intel advantage, which they then lose when political leverage is used against them.
And then everyone gets massacred by a loli demigoddess, because this is an LN adaptation. It's very silly.
>The bit where they manage to pick off the CIA is a bit much
nigga are you so fucking insecure about your country that you can't stand seeing murigans getting rekt in fantasy anime of all things?
jesus fuck man grow a fucking spine
Well the not-Romans also have fantasy monsters. They do start putting up a fight, but the anime hasn't gotten to that point yet.
Calm down, I'm not even an American. I don't give a shit about the politics as presented in the series (my country isn't even represented in it), but I can at least see why someone would think it was a bit much for the SDF to wipe out US troops without the slightest effort, even if it's own their own turf. Really though, it's just dumb fun, both sides should take it less seriously.
>SDF beating anybody
As an Australian I am in maximum overkek. The only part of their army that is even remotely decently sized is the navy. At least we Australian's have the Commandos and SASR.
>even if it's own their own turf
I really don't see how they possibly wouldn't be able to pull it off?
>recon blimb in the sky providing life-feed of information about burgerlanders exact position and movement
>japs were expecting them and were in position with their own special forces
>element of surprise
it would have been a bit too much if the burgerlanders somehow DIDN'T get fucked six ways to sunday and back
If you want something similar to GATE, look up Spellcross, is a old turn base game and i don't know if it works in modern systems, but the premise is modern army fighting a fantasy army
Oh I am laffin. The SDF hasn't had an actual engagement since the war. They do basic Peace Keeping stuff at a very low level. They couldn't invade the local McDonalds let alone take on the US Army.
>let alone take on the US Army.
>one team of spec ops
Oh I am laffin.
Stay salty ameriboo, muritards got FUCKED in anime AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DOOOO~~
Same as the Iraqi Army. 'Trained by' means not much. Here's some winning nations that received US Army training
Post Saddam Iraq
South Vietnam ARVN
Saudi Arabian 'Special Forces'
It's axiomatic, if a nation hasn't actually had active engagements as an army, then it's first fights are going to be shitshows as it adjusts.
There's no amount of training that can cover actual experience - primarily because the actual experience will inform training policy - see Col. John Boyd's Patterns of Conflict.
>Watch season 1 of Gate
>Fighting dragons, magic girl and Happy murder girl
>Get back to Japan and rekt journalists
>Fight the army too because why not
>Kill a bunch of retards
Sounds the same as that Kantai Collection shit where the Japs can pretend they won World War 2 with fantasy anime powers.
Though Kantai whatever is blatantly worse since it's revisionist wank.
She gets better. That's kind of the point of the next arc.
Though the best girl in the next arc is Lellei, by quite a long way.
GATE is shitty gunporn that won't keep any gun otaku for more than 10 minutes and shitty waifu bait.
It is actually amazing how it is a thing when it doesn't capitalise on anything.
>What games let you shoot up medieval knights with modern firearms, or blast Industrial Revolution era forces with sci-fi weapons?
Darkest of... well Darkest of days, that's all.
Darkest of Days is literally exactly what you want.
Nevermind you've already played it, should have finished reading your OP post.
In what ways has the anime been sanitized? It sounds great otherwise, also there is literally nothing wrong with nationalism, in fact I've been wanting to view a right wing nationalist anime for a while now. I just finished watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes and I want more political stuff. Is Gate like that?
The manga is gorier and a bit grittier, but that's mostly it, and LN wasn't really that gritty to begin with. They also changed the character designs, the girl in the OP looks older and less like an idolmaster character in the LN and manga.
>America, France, EU, makes a show celebrating their country's military
>FUCK YEAH THAT'S COOL
>Japanese or Germans do it
>HOLY SHIT WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO FUCKING NATIONLISTIC FUCKING NAZIS
>instead of gameovers/ dying and restarting if you lose a fight he shows up and saves you
Her Manga Design is Much Better JSDF
All that would need to happen is Geno's lets his guard down, like he always does.
He was actually doing well against the Sea King, he just stopped paying attention for a second.
Are you retarded? It's nothing like that
It's that their military literally can't do shit, but in gate they're the first in, no other country can do anything, and somehow regular soldiers beat American spec ops
Considering that its written that if they ever need to go to war america will handle it all, and almost all their shit is American supplied, yeah its pretty fucking retarded
>regular soldiers beat American spec ops
do they fight the American military ? or do the Americans go in first and get rekt?
>they're the first in
The Gate opens in fucking Ginza. Why would anyone else be allowed in first?
>no other country can do anything
Because the Gate is in fucking Japan.
>somehow regular soldiers beat American spec ops
A small spec op of maybe five to ten guys who were only supposed to grab the Gate-citizens and get out. Who were fucked over because of some betrayal so the entire SDF knew where they were and when they were going to strike. And also the Chinese and Russian forces struck at the same time.
Also, maybe one or two guys actually get beaten by the SDF, the remainder get killed taking out the Russian and Chinese forces or by the loli demigod.
>Considering that its written that if they ever need to go to war america will handle it all
It doesn't say, however, that the JSDF cannot act to protect the nation. And the Americans do help and supply the SDF in the manga. It's just that the US, China and Russia all try to get hold of the Gate-citizens off-record and it goes tits up because they all acted at the same time. And because one of the citizens is a superhuman monster who wasn't interested in coming along quietly.
the mc and the main girls come back to our world
while staying at a hot spring or something the u.s. , russians and chinese all send teams to kidnap the girls
the japs defend against them without losing anyone until u.s. blackmails prime minister to make them pull out then the mc and gang finishes off the teams
>the japs defend against them without losing anyone
Because they had intel which let set up well in advance with a much larger force. Also they only killed about two guys.
>then the mc and gang finishes off the teams
More like three different factions wipe each other out and the otherwordly demigod finishes off the rest. Itami and his actual team don't even act until the rest of them are already dead.
>having fictional battles with countries to make them feel better
Like no one else has ever done that.
Anyway, the Japanese have taken the piss out of their defense force since the 70s Godzilla movies. This is one of the few cases where they actually try to make them look good for something. Probably a result of feeling threatened by China and the SDF making actually making themselves useful after the 2011 tsunami and fukushima disaster.
>the only thing that's really silly is that one SDF girl killing a dozen soldier with a bayonet.
I'm pretty sure it was only supposed to be 3-5, and it was the ones who were more lightly armoured and attacked haphazardly. The proper guards stayed back and trie to surround her with shields up, which is when she started firing on them like in the OP.
Kuribayashi is also supposed to have top tier CQC skills and proper bayonet combat training, the anime kind of made it look stupid by having her roll and jump all over the place like a retarded ninja. And lastly, what wasn't shown in the anime is that Tomita was covering her, taking out anyone who managed to get to her blind spots.
Japan hasn't had proper enemies since WWII and America was an enemy back then. There are also people in Japan who don't like being America's bitch.
Honestly, I don't see the big deal. Maybe it's because I'm a Britistani and we're used to being portrayed as villains who lose to heroic underdogs, but it's better to take it in your stride. The Germans and Russians fucking thrive on this shit, too.
They have a pretty big Navy, probably the biggest in Asia.
The anime called "Zipang" sort of does this, you have a modern Japanese naval cruiser being sent back to WW2, and they try to avoid changing the course of history.
Sorry, couldn't think of games.
as a fellow brit I must point out that it is in fact the English who are portrayed as villains. We Scots are portrayed as goofy joke characters
its not that big ,but it could become a major naval power again
Because we're so used to only seeing our own country being stupidly patriotic that when someone else does it we realize how stupid it looks.
>tfw the anime got a superior muscular Idolm@ster design
I know, but it's easier to say Brit than anything else to anyone outside of Europe. Anyway, there are good Scottish villains, Macbeth is about as iconic as you can get.
>We Scots are portrayed as goofy joke characters
I guess in most fantasy scenarios anyone without a NA or home counties accent gets relegated to comic relief, and the guys with RP get to be villains and maybe royalty. Dunno why that became the standard, but there you go.
A shield is never entirely made of steel, it's usually wood with bronze or iron on the surface.
I mean Kuribayashi shot people through their wooden shields with her sidearm.
Nigger, do you think the whole shield was made of metal? No one would be able to even fucking lift the thing if it was, jesus christ why is that retards like you always try to argue when you know fuck all
AP rounds go right through steel. Google some AR500 target test videos, steel core ammo goes right through it, and I doubt some podunk fantasy fags were making steel that nice.
kinda wish there was more varied accents in games, both sci fi and fantasy. I remember dead space extraction having tone of under used accents south African and west coast Scottish. One the protagonists was English and so that was a nice change of pace
So why did she need to get her tits out in the palace scene? She seemed pretty happy with them tucked away during the siege battle.
>Post a relevant quote and admit to not knowing anything else
>Get called retarded for no reason
Dunno why I bother, really.
To show they should not be fucked with and bring the senate to their side out of fear since now they know that if you fuck with their people they will retaliate with extreme prejudice
>So why did she need to get her tits out in the palace scene? She seemed pretty happy with them tucked away during the siege battle.
What? Thats a standard battle dress, although I forgot its name. The /ak/ translator has one of them.
cucked eurabian detected. how does it feel knowing a country that isn't even allowed to invade has a bigger defense budget than yours? maybe if your country cared more about defending its sovereignity you wouldn't be getting overrun by ahmeds.
Are you confusing me for a different poster? That quote post was my only contribution to the whole bullets vs shields discussion. Calm down.
>they already said they'd return the hostages and the emperor agreed to peace talks
I don't think they strictly agreed to that. Suguwara basically said 'find the other hostages and return them, or we'll fuck you up' and the Emperor didn't really give a clear response. The Senate building was probably just to show that they weren't fucking around.
I fucking KNEW that the shitty "MUH MANGA DESIGN" faggots were crossboarders.
I just fucking knew it.
Her anime design is LITERALLY 120% SUPERIOR.
AND PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE ELSE.
>Just below the UK
That's actually quite a bit more than I thought. Neat.
So it's just different combat gear? I assumed it was odd because someone in the /a/ threads was pointing out that she'd have difficulty using her utility belt with her massive tits in the way.
You would think that, but the Emperor had no intention of backing down even after all the allied nation armies were wiped out.
There are still heroes left in man
Yeah, they skipped her reloading before threatening the survivors.
The emperor and his empire by extension are fucktarded, though its more because this is the first time they invaded someone more advanced than them
Until the xenomorphs that is
>expect pansy ass "p-p-peace talk pls understand... give us our hostages if you are so kind..."
>"yeah nah just fucking murder everyone and recover the girl"
>fucking bloodshed accompanied to royalty getting beaten to a pulp in the king's fucking castle
My fucking sides. Even funnier than Arcane STD.
Stop spreading this bullshit.
Literally an immortal demigod goes and kick ass, unless burgers are so over their heads they think their military can kill immortal demigods that masturbate to killing people then just stop.
>So it's just different combat gear?
I'd say its a shirt you're supposed to wear under the vest, as they didn't expect to go into combat when they went to warn Piña of the impending earthquake.
I'm still catching on the LNs, I'll take your word for it.
> As they saw their comrade fall after a single shot, Zorzal’s cronies gave up their plan of flanking Kuribayashi.
>And then, in front of them was an unfettered beast.
>Kuribayashi licked her lips after making her eighth corpse and sneered, “Who’s next?” as she eyed Zorzal’s lackeys. However, none of them dared take a step forward.
>“Well, if you’re giving up, throw down your arms!”
>Zorzal’s lackeys threw down their weapons as one.
From the LN translation. Interestingly, it doesn't mention reloading. But then she wasn't the only one shooting, Tomita was also helping.
My little anon can't be this retarded
Nah, the girl in the OP and one other girl are the only characters like that, and the military dudes are the only ones who get anything important done. The MC is a slightly dorky lieutenant in his early 30s.
If I remember correctly, Kuribayashi was SF material and a test subject to the feminization of the special forces, and was looking forward facing people in battle with the toughest soldiers there are.
Instead she got Itami and Kurata singing anime openings.
What games are there where I don't play as allies and can wreck Americans?
Used to. They used the Type 64 to be specific, which got replaced by the Type 89 as the standard-issue rifle, althuogh Type 64s are still around for other roles.
That's nice and all but even a reduced-charge 7.62x51mm cartridge has a pretty hefty recoil. You'd need to be Jerry fucking Miculek to control its recoil THAT well.
I just think it's retarded how they glorify the JSDF, of all things, when it is the product of a huge defeat in ww2 and the most cucked military force in the entire planet, even shat on by japanese civilians in real life. They also conveniently brush off the fact that they aren't allowed to invade by constitution and pretend that the US can't stop them from having 100% control of the gate, despite the huge military presence of the US in Japan.
In GATE, they only sent out old shit in order to keep the costs as low as possible in case of a forced retreat to our world.
Hence the old Howa Type 64, type 74 tanks and Fantom F4s planes. The current SDF rifle is the 5.56 Howa type 89.
The anime took some serious liberties with the source material, they had her roll and jump around like a demented chimp and casually auto-fire by herself when in the LN she was using careful burst fire and and only bayonetting guys who got to close, while her partner covered her from guys who got into her blindspots.
Turkey adopted a 7,62 weapon as their new service rifle. Won't hear me saying a lot of nice things about T*rks, but their army has seen lots of live action against Kurds, and it is generally considered that they aren't complete idiots.
Mosin-Nagants and the 7.62x54mmR rounds have a bit of a reputation for dislocating shoulders. I don't claim to be %100 accurate with my claims since the gooks don't want to share their 7.62x51mm rounds or their Type 64s with others.
Yeah, the anime went full-retard with that stuff. I guess it's not that unexpected since iirc JSDF had officially recognized the anime, or something along those lines, so it'd make sense for them to boast.
They've been using the G3, which is also a 7.62x51mm rifle, ever since the 50s, anon. The rifle itself is new but the round isn't for them.
>I guess it's not that unexpected since iirc JSDF had officially recognized the anime, or something along those lines, so it'd make sense for them to boast.
Honestly, you'd think they'd rather stick with the more controlled and sensible approach, if anything I'd say that that it was the studio's decision to go for a more exaggerated kung-fu movie-esque approach for the anime audience.
>Mosin-Nagants and the 7.62x54mmR rounds have a bit of a reputation for dislocating shoulders
Well this guy (my coworker from Belarus) was deaf for several days because he believed ear protection was for pussies.
Also we all got bruises from firing it, but guns+beer+hotdogs is pretty much my idea of the American Dream now.
Can't find a source now, but I think I remember reading that the army was given 5.56 rifles for field testing, and they specifically requested something closer to .308 because most of their engagements with K*rds were at a longer range.
My dad once took me hunting and he fired his 7,62x54R rifle next to me while were standing at the bottom of a small valley.
When I woke up the next morning, I swear my ears were still ringing a little. Never let me fire it though, he said as long as I don't have my licence I should stick with the shotgun ;_;
Yeah, but dumb, flashy moves appeal to much larger audiences compared to disciplined, controlled moves.
Man I know that feel. Ear protection ain't no joke.
And yep, that is indeed the American dream. And damn is it nice.
Yep, that's precisely what happened. They were originally given Mehmetcik-1 rifles, which were crappy HK416 clones, and the Army said that 5.56x45mm wasn't enough for their usual engagements. And so the MPT-76, their new rifle, which is probably a crappy HK417 clone, was born.
The Eastern region of Turkey, which is Kurd turf, is mountainous as fuck, and in that sort of region long-range firefights happen more often.
We first fired tiny .22s, and the noise was enough to get my nogun ass to put on some protection. Hollywood is bullshit.
So was screaming at him to make a fucking pizza for three days.
Tinnitus is serious shit.
>tfw I know a guy that used to be an artilleryman
The guy yells instead of talking, and you have to shout right in front of him if you want him to understand anything.
Install Age of Empires 2
Start a skirmish vs 5 hardest computers
Get 1-3 laser soldiers
>Instant imperialism, just add trans dimensional portals
The Japanese are so weird...
I'm not very well versed in an*me, but I watchinb it I was pretty convinced that the whole series was commissioned by the Jap army on the occassion that they transformed from a self-defense force to an army.
There's a Doom clone called Strife that is about advanced aliens enslaving medieval humans
Here. Let me sum up Gate.
>MUH GORIOUS EMPIRE
>JAPAN WILL RISE AGAIN
>DOWN WITH NATO
>DOWN WITH USA ESPECIALLY
>JAPAN DA BEST
>GRAND EMPIRE OF JAPAN SOON!
>MUH BEST IN THE WORLD (though this isn't actually far from the truth, Japan's special forces are quite good, but that's cause they can train constantly since they can't fight anywhere)
Etc. There. Summed it up for you. Watch it if you want to laugh at a country that thought making guns look ornate was a good idea, having machine guns with gravity fed boxes and pistols which were more dangerous to them than the guy they were firing at.
Well America is trying to get Japan to become a full army.
We want them nice and strong so they can continue to dish out more waifus
I'm fine when they're just slaughtering the fantasy world people with guns and artillery but when this bitch just runs in and solos a dozen knights with just her bayonet that's a bit too retarded.
If the guys with swords aren't even good at melee combat what's the point.
The JSDF in this anime are like the military equivalent of Saitama.
Yeh it's too overdone at this point.
>Implying America is any better
How many times have we shoved a Westerner into a pivotal position for our Samurai movies?
Wow, it's impressive how none of your green text has any relevance to Gate itself. At least most of the shitposters on /a/ make the effort to go for the whole
>Implying Japanese human rights
Actually you're completely wrong. The series does stuff like this in ebbs and waves. The next big part is the go fight (and kill) that huge fire dragon.
Too bad it kills all the dark elves first lol.
>Asks Itami to introduce her to his Spec Ops friends
>None of them are interested in her
>Gets butthurt over Tomita being with Bozes
>Gets her shit slapped by Rory for being a dick about it
No life love anywhere in sight. Truly the pinnacle of tiny military Christmas Cake.
But that is literally it. It's going "we're best and don't need anybody else, Japan great, Japan will rule all!"
>shitposters on /a/
Never been to /a/, I just know what the manga and anime is basically showing.
>hur dur shitposter
I forgot counter shitposting is a thing now. Well, here's your (You).
Looking at them both, the manga looks better because it looks different and arguably more realistic. The anime looks like easily 90% of the rest of weaboo anime bullshit.
I don't even watch that shit you cocksuckers just keep coming here.
>It's going "we're best and don't need anybody else, Japan great, Japan will rule all!"
GATE was never really made with a Western audience in mind, it's a Japanese product for a Japanese audience and any Westerners who get involved in it are doing so purely from localization so I don't see why Japan should realize they might offend people who are into those ancient cultures (in the same way America might not have realized making a Westerner the big deal in an ancient Samurai movie might offend cultural sensibilities.)
Relax nigga, your own country probably has countless types of media like this as well.
Why should I take you seriously when you're egregiously wrong, to the point where it looks like you haven't even seen it?
>It's going "we're best and don't need anybody else, Japan great, Japan will rule all!"
That literally never happens. They're not there to rule, they're there to prevent the Empire from attacking their country again and to establish peaceful negotiations.
And why would they need anyone else against a civilization that's almost 2000 years behind the modern world?
The barbarians in question already ransacked their capital and massacred hundreds/thousands of civilians without warning. And they have no way of communicating with a nation whose language has no relation to anything found on modern Earth.
You know what, it's fine. I know when I've been rused. Time to call it a day.
The idea is similar.
>aliens come through the gate to attack us
>we fuck them up
>we go through the gate to colonize
>turns into humanitarian mission for the impoverished people on the other side
Like stargate, it's mostly about exploring this new land and trying to be peaceful with the villages they come across.
Well look at it this way, they had a bunch of civilians killed, and were attacked when establishing a foothold. Every nation would act pretty much the same and historically HAS acted the same.
At least they're not pulling an America and bombing KNOWN civilian medical centers.
Continue being an americuck
I didn't make it. I found it on /a/ months ago.
Still didn't address how they have a political figure as the supreme commander, erected warning signs in Japanese, don't even bother to have a proper translator, how excessively violent they are etc.
So the JSDF is so worthless and pathetic that they can only win fights against people still stuck in antiquity?
At least the Imperial army in Muv-Luv had to fight waifu eating rape aliens, even for power-fantasy horse shit this is fucking sad.
I think it's also the obnoxiousness of pairing up such underpowered mooks as a bunch of not legios getting gunned down. It's not exactly impressive when it's so lopsided and is 300 jingoistic tier. But yeah you're right that part of it is the shoe being on the other foot. Then again I'd be more able to take it seriously if a country of actual military power was the one doing the masturbatory fantasy - a China or Russia or Uk or France as opposed to a Japan, an Australia, a Thailand, a Indonesia. When it's some state with a small neutered military who've been peaceful and not at war for closing in on a century doing it, it tends to come across as ridiculously wish-fulfillment.
20-40 more years and Japan on the trajectory of reclaiming their testicles that Abe is putting them on and yeah I could dig it. But right now it comes across as ludicrous as if a Pajeet had their Jaeger powered by poo leading the fight against the Kaijus.
Why would you bother arming your military that well when you have literal US bases near you? Besides no matter how well armed and trained they were they couldn't do shit if China decided it was time for WW3.
Clive Barkers Jericho.
Only mentioned once in the thread, but I wanted to expand on that.
At one point you're literally fighting undead Crusaders with your modern firearms. They even throw tentacled, disemboweled child soldier crusaders at you.
Just imagine what life was like for the prior conscripted generations. I'm fucking amazed they weren't all deaf to a man.
Being reminded of Muvluv has me want to add to >>324281786 how that does a better job of presenting the Japan stronk. Since they never got bitchslapped in the first place with the alternative history a bellicose, muscular Japan makes perfect sense. Not to mention the challenge is of eldritch horrors from beyond the stars chomping waifus or backstabbing European or American dumbasses more interested in power politics than stopping said fucking betamaxes, not a bunch of ancient-medieval warriors being wasted like babby's first overpowered medieval 2 total war mod.
>Still didn't address how they have a political figure as the supreme commander
Dunno where that comes from, I'm pretty sure that's straight up made up. He's just a general.
>erected warning signs in Japanese
Better than nothing at all, they made an effort to post translations in what they could get of the local language as well.
>don't even bother to have a proper translator
Again, it's maybe a week after having discovered a nation that doesn't have any langauge like anything in Earth's history, it's amazing they managed to put up the signs in the first place. They haven't had a chance to work out who to talk to, how to talk to them, and how to broach negotiations, but after thousands of civilians have already died, why the fuck would you take any chances against an enemy that massacres without warning?
>how excessively violent they are etc.
The enemy had dragons. Fucking. Dragons. Do you really think anyone would hold back against a complete unknown enemy that has fucking fantasy monsters on their side?
WHat I find funny about this anime is how it manages to make anyone american go full autismo on it just because the japanese are doing anythign at all, in a fucking pretend story no less, this reminds me of a group of people who get absolutely buttflustered about fantasy thing happening to fantasy persons, I just can't seem to remember who this group of people were
South Korea would never do anything and North Korea might send like two boats armed with machetes. Besides the US bases are still there.
It's not like you are japanese either.
i still don't understand anime
>either too gore, too cute, too drama, or hyper-action
>always dumb, over-confident, or kawaii-desu extremist
>romance always takes the center-stage when on screen
>they don't explain jokes, but they explain long and boring plot with power-point presentations
Of the few anime i've watched and enjoyed was Kaiba, No Game No Life, TTGL, and Paranoia Agent.
can you recommend more?
If you want "serious" anime then you should watch stuff like Jin-Roh or Legend of the Galactic heroes (if you are prepared for a looooooong series) and even some of the overrated ones like death note and monster are good. Seriously though everyone should watch lotgh.
Are you trying to operate by retarde AoE and that the spearment should win against a better equiped army? Also they should just spread their legs to so some random country goes and camps inside their own nation and gets use the resources of the other dimension even though they did not help at all during the invasion?
what fucking standards do you have?
If you liked TTGL you (might) like kill la kill, just maybe
>couldn't penetrate a solid shield like
everyone point and laugh at this retard
i'm an americlap, we don't have standards
also, We're on a video games board, Vidya is my thing..not anime!
agreed. I should just go back and watch all the 90's-00's anime that was really popular
but i'm looking for something a little crazy that doesn't hold back and doesn't explain shit, just throws stuff constantly at you
You could make a bulletproof shield, but you'd either need modern materials or fill it with so much iron that it's too heavy for a man to lift. Those things are meant to stop arrows, not rifle rounds.
I don't give a fuck about the Nationalism crap, the MC being some autist otaku but also one of the best soldiers in the entire JSDF is what pisses me off.
>but i'm looking for something a little crazy that doesn't hold back and doesn't explain shit, just throws stuff constantly at you
BAA has a small amount of exposition but it's a character-driven action manga first and foremost. Unless you're someone who gets triggered by a female protagonist in a 90s cyberpunk manga, it should meet your expectations just fine.
Just to make a point of reference - did you like MGR Revengeance? Because if so, then definitely read BAA, it was probably one of the key inspirations for it.
It's on my to-play list after i get through the other Metal Gears but I liked what i saw
I'll give BAA a consideration when i get done eating lunch
>still using F4s in this day and age
Step it up japanpai
It's pretty on the nose, especially the fact that they make a point of him being trained by the best whilst also being a lazy fuck.
But on the other hand, are soldiers not allowed to have hobbies? Is being an otaku that surprising? I know I've seen weeb stuff being stuck to what look like deployed military vehicles in photos posted on /a/.
Well he's a Ranger and Spec Ops trained, not everyone else stationed in the Special Region is. Also he got quite a bit of reknown for taking control during the Ginza invasion. But yeah, it's a bit dumb.
Oh wow, you're so far up your own insane american rethoric that you actually believe that the countries have to bow down to yours? There is no fucking agreement anywhere in the world that allows some as exploitative as that you fucking underage jackass
You are a fucking retard. America and Japan made a fucking treaty requiring America to interject in Japan's affairs for the sake of peace and vice versa, hence why there are so many American bases in Japan. But of course you're a fucking retard who didn't know this.
He's isn't actually socially awkward though. And to be fair, only one of the 'harem' overtly has sexual or love-like feelings for him, and even then she's probably just fucking around.
He also isn't the 'best' soldier by any means, he got through spec ops and Ranger training by virtue of having one specific useful talent which was basically 'being hard to catch'. He's a joke to both departments and finished last.
can /co/ join this clusterfuck thread?
Because he made a strong impression on everyone or something.
That shit happens
Why is this anime so popular when both it and all the material associated with it are third-rate tripe?
This is like the only work I've seen where the concept seems to be the only thing carrying it's shit-tier execution.
Because, like I said, he still somehow made it through Ranger and spec op training and he made a name for being able to take control in a nightmarish situation, i.e. rescusing countless civilians from an invasion from what might as well have been Mordor.
Also, he was sent out with the Recon team to assess the Special Region and its people, he probaby has the some of the best relations and knowledge of them as a result.
>You would have liked The Crossing if it ever came out
it's *kinda* what happened with Souls games as far as fusion of single player and multiplayer is concerned
although probably not on as grand a scale as The Crossing envisioned.
But the execution is still shit tier to me. There's never any tension or conflict that seems overwhelming. The heroes are one-note and the main protagonist is just an otaku self-insert that makes me sigh. It nearly becomes a fucking harem and is filled with so much stupid anime shit that any gleams of interesting story trends are buried under the shit. It's take on military adventurism is like Starship Troopers without any self-awareness.
I have no idea how this remains popular when the only redeeming quality is like 5% of it, but I guess anime is just in such a sorry state.
Difference is most American nationalism takes the piss nowadays and exaggerates the whole "MURRICA" thing for laughs. Japanese nationalism on the other hand is completely unironic and just pathetic "NIPPON NUMBER 1 FUKKU USA"
Even fucking musket rounds went right through inch thick breastplate. Do you think that we stopped using metal armor like that because it wasn't fair? Even modern armor can only one or two shots before becoming useless
>Phrase not found
fallout new vegas, OP
>Difference is most American nationalism takes the piss nowadays and exaggerates the whole "MURRICA" thing for laughs
COD literally had to make piss-taking spinoffs to get away from the shameless glorifying American miltary bullshit. And then still make the American military glory shit anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind any of these things, but to the Japs are the only ones who do it shamelessly is ridiculous.
ILL DRINK YOUR SEMEN MIXED WITH YOUR BLOOD TONIGHT
NWN has a few mods that do this. Nobody can make them fire on automatic though.
You can be sure that no one in this thread would be complaining if Gate had been set in the US and nothing else was changed. Well, maybe make Itami a comic nerd and make the Special Region more Tolkein-esque, but that's about it.
Such an obvious case of 'it's okay when US does it' it hurts.
Not even butthurt, just pointing out the glaringly obvious.
At least my sensitivities aren't hurt when my country isn't represented the way I want it to be. Boo fucking hoo, bitch.
It's more like the US would actually be able to do everything Japan pretends it would be able to do in this series
>expectation: gate open on japanese soil so filthy gaijin out
>reality: LMAO stupid fucking nips move out of the way or we're withdrawing our military and financial support against china and russia
>no pureasu amerika-san u can have gaito camu back pureasu
>Japan will NEVER EVER win a war
Actually, they did. Although it was mostly due to the Russians being complete fuck-ups than anything on Japan's part. It's still pretty embarassing to lose against a country that by all rights was still recovering from being behind the rest of the world by about 300 years.
Are you really so desperate for attention that you can't stand a cartoon about a country sorting it's own shit out without needing America to fix things for them? Yeah, maybe in reality America would demand to step in and sort shit out, and maybe in reality a portal to Narnia wouldn't actually appear in the first place. Not everything is about you, you attention whore fucks.
I'm not even american fampai, but when the show attempts to place itself in a realistic simulation of the modern world, with politics represented in a realistic way, it becomes harder to suspend disbelief in the face of nipponese self-wankery.
Compare this to something like ghost in the shell, which is set in a future after two world wars. Naturally japan becomes a new global superpower and is responsible for saving everyone. But because the setting is fantastic to begin with it's easier to accept that.
Hey, guess what? It's a fantasy series. It's loosely based on the real modern world, but it has fucking dragons and elves and shit. If you can suspend disbelief for that shit, you can do it for some political tweaking.
And why would anyone want to write about how another country muscled in and took all the spoils of war from a fantasy nation that massacred their people? Not everyone is as into being kucked as Americans are.
I feel like there is potential for some interesting political intrigue with American AND japanese mililtary inside the gate
>tensions between soldiers
>"hmm what are those americans up to over there"
>nips and americans funding rival gangs in akusho
>two-sided negotiations with the empire with both sides trying to out muscle both the empire and eachother
instead of just
>japan: gaijin stay out
yeah but dragons don't dictate policy in the 'real world'. In using modern Japan as a setting they have to explain how Japan can defy a 50+ year old alliance while at the same time continue to be supplied by that alliance.
Romans were like the die-hards of history.
They fought the enemies with spears, drank in victory, de-speared the spears, put sponges of the spear tips and pissed on them and went home overnight.
Imagine doing this shit in a hyper-realistic roman conquest simulator.
The trouble is, this shit is a light novel. Japanese nerds don't give a shit about America and don't want to see them in their books or anime other than as comic relief or half-Jap girls, or preferably both.
I kind of a agree with you that it might be a bit more interesting, but that would also require the author to know more about American military practise than is easily available in Japanese. It'd be written clumsily, still be wildly inaccurate, have hilariously bad Engrish in the anime, stereotypes everywhere and everyone would STILL be complaining about the representation.
It literally never mentions the alliance existing in the first place. For all we know, it probably doesn't exist in the setting, since it would have been brought up by now.
>It literally never mentions the alliance
I think at one point the dastardly NotTrump says something like
"those japs are our allies so let's let them do all the hard work and demand a portion of the mineral rights"
It doesn't have to. If the alliance didn't exist then we wouldn't see phantoms and humvees, we'd see Jap vehicles made up or otherwise. The fact that they are using American equipment means they are getting American aid.
Maybe? If the alliance exists as stands, then the Americans would have already have sent forces through the Gate with or without Japan having a say. So it's probably a given it's not that level of a relationship in this case.
>If the alliance didn't exist then we wouldn't see phantoms and humvees
I'm pretty sure American military equipment is used by nations that aren't obliged to let the US take over as soon as war starts. I could be wrong though.
They didn't have toilets at the time, just latrines, but since they were in war they couldn't just carry a potty all around.
They were also expert spear designers. The metal tip, once the spear itself was launched, would detach after hitting the target's body.
The tip was made in such calculated and precise weight, if it wanted to be thrown again, this couldn't be done, because the spear's body was missing and it was just the right size to sustain the metal tip.
So they recovered the metal tips for later after winning, and collected the wooden spears. They then took out cut-out rectangle yellow sponges taken by the mediterranean from their camp, and stick it on top.
Placed the sponges on the wooden body, they'd piss on it; after it was absorbed, they'd empty it in a hole in the ground in which they also shat, and used leaves to clean themselves. Then filled the hole.
This is technology. It's hygienically safer than using a normal potty nowadays and more ecological.
Then it's a situation like in >>324295040. The alliance exists, but there's no obligation for Japan to let the US take over miltary affairs. It does actually say at the beginning of the series that the SDF were acceping supplies from the US in preparation for entering the Gate.
People are still upset about the other country shit?
From what I read what happens in the modern world isn't all that important to the story itself.
I thought it was pretty good
but I read the manga first it got me when they gave dark elves RPGs and they ended up killing themselves AND each other
this had to be one of the most retarded parts of the manga
>let's take a bunch of practical cave men and give them heavy explosives with minimal training
>WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG
To be fair, they were completely blindsided by the dragon. Also, they'd already taught some nobles how to use battle rifles, so it wasn't entirely unreasonable to expect them to pick up at least the most essential information on how not to kill yourselves.
Empire Earth has about 20 epochs (Equivalent to Ages in AoE) encompassing cavemen to mech-warfare, so if you advance faster than your opponents you can have a batallion of tanks blasting down Richard the Lionheart and his knights.
I'm always on the fence about EE, it's magnitude of scale is unique from my experience of the RTS genre but I can't help shake off there's so much wasted potential, especially when taking the sequels into consideration.
What I find painful in Gate
Beside harem and otaku shit.
The Battle of the hill(the first one where allied armies get massacred)
- no one cared for wounded or survivors. They just massacred them(they could use POV and translators to negotiate with them or force them to surrender).
Also nobody bother about biothreat. Its other planet/world full of unknown shit and nobody run in biohazard suit.
Fuck earth politics - just close the gate tight. Who knows what sort of virus/disease can come to us. Sure fortify other side and man it with volunteers(In will expect many old people - like in Fukushima accident) to defend other side.
Which could be interesting.
Sure its important but they would call for a joint operation rather than nuking themselves - because it will be cooperation or total war.
So letting stupid Japs test waters and do dirt work wouldn't be a bad idea. I could see Russia to help Nips to cockblock China or USA.
New scramble for Africa the only problem is that Gate is in Japan and can be unstable.
>(they could use POV and translators to negotiate with them or force them to surrender).
Literally less than a week after being invaded, why would they have anyone on hand who could speak the language anywhere near well enough?
>Also nobody bother about biothreat. Its other planet/world full of unknown shit and nobody run in biohazard suit.
You literally see Lellei in one of the biosuits they brought over. It's right fucking there.
>Fuck earth politics - just close the gate tight. Who knows what sort of virus/disease can come to us. Sure fortify other side and man it with volunteers(In will expect many old people - like in Fukushima accident) to defend other side.
The idea is mentioned almost immediately. It's shot down simply because a) they don't know how it opened in the first place, b) they don't know if it could be properly sealed and c) for all they know another one could just open up elsewhere with even worse results.
Less than a week.
Don't joke. How fast do you think they can gather the vassal forces?
It would take months at best.
And yet they allow free flow of air, loot and people from Other world to Nippon.
Sure but seal the fucking place with air lock. >imo glorious nippon tech
Your post is so poorly written, I can barely understand it.
>Don't joke. How fast do you think they can gather the vassal forces?
Maybe a week is an exaggeration, but it's clearly established that before getting hold of te refusgees they'd had no success in making communications with the locals. That's the reason Recon 3 were sent out in the first place.
>And yet they allow free flow of air, loot and people from Other world to Nippon.
Clearly because they established that the environement isn't dangerous to live in as it stands. And both ends of the Gate ARE sealed, but maybe not as airtight as they could be.
Traditional all-out warfare from different eras tends to be extremely one sided. That's why asymmetric conflicts usually are guerrilla style insurgencies rather than all out battles.
Well we don't really know what would happen because gates don't exist, though I guess U.S would be more involved if there were any more GATE invasions.
Nobody else really knows what's on the other side iirc
>translators to negotiate
They didn't understand the language until they reached that first village. And Lelei was vital for them understanding the world so quickly. They still learned it a bit too fast imo. Like they learned a new language in just a few months.
>mfw all the normalfags here
>"hurr why this isn't exactly what I wanted!"
>They then get surprised when western videogames are all the same, and probably like it even
What exactly were you expecting? The guy hasn't had to fight or suffer a day in his life and probably doesn't even know what a punch feels like. In the anime he misses his first swing that amateur he clearly is and pays for it. In the manga he's already cowering on the floor, he didn't even get a chance to defend himself.
>you will never have a mahou shoujo gently hold your nose as she sets you down on an aircraft carrier
My flaps were going dokidoki at this scene
Are you serious? He's a prince of the entire nation he may be an insufferable faggot but they ARE trained from a very young age in ALL kingdoms. In fact he probably had far more hand to hand training than some spec ops wanna be since they tend to spread it out to long range combat most of the time.
I never got the complaints against that. Tom Cruise wasn't a samurai who just happened to be white, he was an American who became a samurai. How would he not be white? How would that make any sense in the story?
Is vividbutts worth watching? I like butts.
Training with wooden swords whilst superior soldiers are forced to go easy on him isn't going to be better combat than what modern armed forces teach, especially when it comes to unarmed combat. Like fuck anyone taught him how to take a punch. The late Roman Imperial family were inbred corpulent fucks who literally couldn't defend themselves to save their lives, it's kind of miraculous that he's in decent shape but I doubt he could find hand to hand properly.
well here's a big statement a70+ lb difference is a huge factor training or no he could just body the girl but japs always have this strong female image to uphold especially harem concubines
That plane is indeed blushing.
I'm not sure what to say to this.
>F-35 the trillion dollar failure
>loli's riding on them half naked
this is retarded on so many levels I can't stomach this, I know anime can be off the wall, but this just fuckin retarded with no chance of redemption
It's more anger towards this series trying to make a serious attempt at interactions between a medevil world and a modern society in the beginning and instead just pandering to otaku tropes at the end of the day.
That's not half naked, son. This is tho.
There was this tiny sumo wrestler some years back, can't remember the name, but he was pretty famous at the time. Still managed to beat guys twice his size and probably his weight. It's really not unheard of at all for someone more skilled to punch out their weight class, and that would certainly apply here.
Snake remember the basics of CQC
>Anime and manga is so stupid, those japanese are fucked up! lol
>They literally don't anything different than american cartoons and comics except the MC are japanese
>its ok when america #1 USA USA does it
