This game had mixed reviews when it came out on the consoles, why would anyone be surprised at the mixed reaction now? It's a fun game but by no means perfect, but for the people who it clicks with they should have plenty of enjoyment out of it.

Anyone still talking about the game recently (prior to the port announcement) would likely be the people who were/are super into it.

Anyway, as people who don't enjoy the game drop off over time, so the threads will eventually get better as only the fans remain.

On console, game reviews were mixed and mostly by incompetent jornos, the game had some performance issues on dated consoles, and that's about it.
PC has to deal with nothing of that sort.
Dragons Dogma has a pretty decent sized fan base too, many of those people now bought it on Steam.

They are optional but those are still the quests the game offers. Not like that justification was good, anyways because of you disregard the side-quests the game becomes a literal mindless killfest. At least the quests add a layer of 'roleplaying' or whatever you want to call it.

I haven't played Kingdoms or Amalur so I can't weight on how close both games are though. If both are similar I'll play Kingdoms of Amalur at some point as well since I'm liking DD a lot so far in the really small amount of time I've been playing.

The game has no lock on mechanic (except for spells I guess, haven't played an archer class yet). The game could use the option and let the players decide to use it or not.
The subtitles are a bit too intrusive.
The objects that can be picked from the ground can be a hard to see sometimes.
And the game doesn't have a dodge/roll except for that roll skill.

The only things that doesn't make much sense is the nauseating camera part and the controls being clunky.

I just uninstalled the game after 25 hours played. Got to level 27. It's just not fun for me. I'm glad other people are enjoying their dress up housefly simulator, but it just feels like there's no real progression for me when playing it.

Using the same gear since level 1 barring finding a new weapon at like level 24 because everything shops sell is shit.

Using the same skills since level 4 or so, only looking very slightly fancier.

Fighting the same mobs most of the time, yay for bandits and goblins and wolves. Only once every 2-3 hours do I seem to fight something other than them.
