You know I keep seeing this part, but I've never found a source for it. Even if Anima is the protector of the Oerba village, meaning her task is to foster humanity. Wouldn't her job also to be killing everyone to open the Gate? Now people will say that the vision shows Ragnarok as it appeared in the end, so therefore she must've wanted to save Cocoon, except that is shown nowhere and since Fal'Cie aren't omniscient (they feel despair) she can't have known that Etro would intervene. Meaning the party's focus is "destroy Cocoon." Sazh even says this at the end "That qualifies as a demolition. Focus complete." And we know this has weight, since XIII is written so badly that everything means exactly what is said and none of the villains ever lie either. Meaning this is word of God.

He never utters a single lie. The closest he comes to that is that he threatens the party that he will tell the Cavalry that Orphan is pulling the strings, which is also true. It's a half-truth, but a truth nonetheless. He consistently tells the party what he wants them to do and why. They do it, while spouting that its meaning is different even if the actions and consequences are the same.

Also Anima is not fucking benevolent. In the supplementary material she's quite uncaring and strict, although not as cruel as her priesthood.

The Cavalry thing is only a lie in the sense that the Cavalry never had a chance to win since Eden will immediately Ciethify them. He needed the attackers to be l'Cie. That's the half-truth. I disagree with all of those being lies, since their Focus was to destroy Cocoon. Except the Serah thing actually now that I rewatch it. Let me tell why Caius is the best. He won at the end of the game. Doesn't matter if you win half way, doesn't matter if you kill God, because at the end of the game, you get your shit kicked in by the good guys. Other bad guys may have won major battles, but they lost the war. Caius is the only one who wins in the end. It took a sequel for him to be beaten, and even then he could not be done so. He's the only guy that gets to float in your face because he actually won.
