Also---DC emulation is acceptable now-a-days. If you just want a taste, do that and save yourself 50 USD. I played through Shenmue 1 and 2 on my PC with little problem.

the basics are pretty simple: the VMU is the memory card, games are easy as fuck to pirate (though require a few custom DLLs in your ImgBurn folder to burn properly, and some games had to be a little compressed to fit on a CD), many games on DC are the best version (Ikaruga, DOA2, etc). It supports VGA with the right cables. Some really unique stuff on them too, and even legit copies of games are usually not too expensive compared to other older systems.
