you do realize they originally called this the valve software showcase, right? that was before they changed the event's name.

don't expect too much though. There's a chance that they're gonna unveil Portal VR (aka Portal 3), a steam layout (a la big picture) that runs on VR, and PROBABLY an announcement that all of their source games (not just tf2) will receive VR support natively

TF2 already has VR support, but none of the other source games have it yet. Also, they'll probably announce that source 2 is gonna have native VR support as well.

Fair enough, I do remembered missing the creepy atmosphere of portal 1, it was almost like a horror game at some points with the rat man secret rooms. But portal 2 still had so genuinely funny moments, for me at least.

If they intend to reveal HL3 the story's already written. Him leaving Valve means absolutely nothing in regard to their current IP's, it's only indicative of the fact that there currently are no new IP's in early development, which knowing Valve isn't exactly a big surprise.

Half-Life's stories have never been written conventionally you know.

Half-Life 1 was already done before they got laidlaw in to write a story for it - but Laidlaw wanted to revamp a lot of aspects of the game to fit his story, namely by having the human characters be less uncanny valley.

Half-Life 2 wasn't written until the source engine was done and they already had a basic demo. Laidlaw pretty much wrote HL2 Beta entirely prior to Source, but current HL2 was written after the leak (though valve employees will tell you they did it because they thought the story didn't complement the gameplay well enough)

HL3 is in a tough spot, because they HAVE to make it a followup to Episode 2 in some way, which means they don't have the freedom to start the new game with something new and cool - so instead, it would have to somehow finish episode 2 before it could be it's own thing.

Valve really just needs to update Episode 2 and add a new chapter to it, closing that up for good. That way they won't need to waste our time in HL3 trying to wrap that up.

As much as people like to meme about it a Ricochet 2 game could actually be very interesting.
Basically make it heavily inspired by Tron and dark cyberpunk like E.Y.E, add a really interesting story and solid gameplay and you have a winner.

They didin't rewrite after the leak anon, the story is laid out nearly the same as the retail maps only prototyped. The only thing missing was the citadel, but it even had the c17 maps leading up to the gov't building and all that.
