Why is this game so fucking bad
>weapons are slow as fuck
>combat is just a slower version of dark souls
>have to do stupid ass animations when using literally any item
>all the monster are literally the same
>get hit once and you die
>only 3 respawns
>no item drops, only crafting
what fucking trash
Anyone with Cross interested in doing some online? I haven't done any of the online quests yet and I was wanting to start on them.
a drawfiend also made me this
I did, kind anon
and put it in a really nice wallpaper also made by him
Monster Hunter on the ps2, but I didn't really play it that much. Didn't have access to online either. I got heavily involved with freedom on the psp though.
Favorite game series.
Borrowed my friend's copy cause the cover art interested me.
My first impression was that it was one of the most difficult games i've ever played and hated it, but it warmed up on me the longer i played.
Though i would never play another MH til 3U.
3U (Only one I've played, I don't plan on playing the series on a handheld)
Why the fuck is Lucent Narga a thing? Like it was bad enough that they gave it poison spikes on every fucking move that are always active, but on top of that the fucker NEVER drops moonshards. I've gone through something like 15 since my last drop.
But the v1.1 english prepatched was made by an anon in the general
That where I got it, right after he posted it
Also piracy shit is right in the OP, fuck you
Sorry your general has been invaded by pirates
Attack numbers are scaled back, the whole game is a hell of a lot flashier, hunting arts are like abilities you can use to dodge or attack with each weapon getting different ones, and styles actually add a bit of variety to the various weapons.
Alright, cheated and got every armor, and most weapons. What are some good abilities for hunting horn?
In Portable 3rd they show the true raw damage for each weapon, so all the starter weapons all have 50 power (or whatever, I don't remember the exact number).
In all the other games the weapon power the game shows you is the weapon's true raw damage stat multiplied depending on the weapon class. It's why Greatswords and Hammers always show a high damage stat in-game; their multiplier is like x5 or something.
>Finish up my G-Rank Greatsword set
>"Oh boy now I can finally get to work on that G-Rank Lance set-"
>Needs Diablos shit for the helmet and chest armor
Nevermind upgrading all the Lances I was using in HR, fuck, time to get to work.
Ah ok, so that would make it easier to compare different types of weapons?
Seems like it'd be better to have both though, no? I would like to know how much damage I do when I hit a monster too
It's nice to have the true raw stat but neither are super helpful alone. On weapons every different attack animation has it's own 'motion value' which acts as a modifier to (usually) reduce the damage. Very few attacks have a motion value of 100% or even close. A lot of attacks only apply something like 30-40% of your true raw damage. Some weapons like switchaxe are really deceptive, they show relatively high attack stats but have pretty poor motion values on most of their attacks.
I'll play mh4u, it's still a good game it's me, anon
but I didn't spam anything like that, anon
I went through the pain thanks to you all, kind anons thank you
I'm new to the series.
Should I keep playing this or just start all over with 4U?
Quality shitposting, friend.
If it gets imported and you get a legit copy, I'd play with you. I'm fairly decent at HBG and GS.
Honestly if I'm against Azure Rath I could give a shit what the HH does as long as he keeps up Windproof.
Diablos is super fucking easy anon. If he turns to you then guard/dodge. If he digs, put up your weapon or just turtle. Literally all Diablos does is charge, sandswim, and scream. Black Diablos is a little worse since iirc she motion tracks while enraged but even then it's still survivable.
I'm still in 4U. Too much of a pussy to downgrade my N3DS for fear of bricking it.
>inb4 "Well follow the step by step guide you fucking retard."
I guess I can use one of my old 3DS's as a sacrificial lamb, but I am also too lazy to do it.
I left after the IRC started getting that superior stink to them and endorsed shitting up Jap DLC rooms.
Sorry you can't let your fellow anons be happy and enjoy Star Knight armor?
I'm only up to 4 star and:
Maccau is fun, better than the dromes for sure.
The bubble dragon made a guest appearance and completely raped me in one quest.
The lave tail blade monster was also a guest in another one but I ended up raping it, was cool
Hororo Horuru is my favorite so far, literally an owl that will induce sleep and flipflop your button inputs.
HR3 or anything Low Rank MonHun X room:
I downgraded mine, which was sinple enough i guess, but i have zero idea what to do now. And honestly im sarisfied with just sitting on the thing until i have a better idea. Anyway, the room is
Password is 2233
Is there seriously no way to get to the blacksmith on MHX's gathering hall?
>they brought him back
>they actually brought him back
>they actually fucking brought him back
>they literally, actually fucking brought him back
>holy fucking shit, they literally, actually fucking brought him back
If he comes back in 5 I'm literally, actually going to bust a fucking nut.
>they brought plesioth back
>they brought land-only plesioth back
>one of the required Arena Quests is fighting it near naked
Why? It makes it super simple. It's always had good gunner armor since the skill system was implemented so I've farmed him pretty much every fucking game. I'd honestly rate Diablos as pretty comfy.
>they brought lavasioth back
>and improved him in ways that Frontier can't ever manage
Compare to MHX Lavasioth to the Frontier HC version.
Simple, sure, but aggravating to have to spend over half the fight stunned by roars, chasing a Diablos that decided to charge halfway across the area when I'm 10 feet from its face, or waiting for it to come out from underground only to have him teleport underneath me and stun me with tremors so I can get buttfucked extra hard. It's just a drawn-out, irritating piece of shit monster to fight for me.
>Talking about Lavasioth
>One of the few monsters to have nearly no big AOE attacks
Red only has his one big one when leaving the lava too.
Even the gold and silver wonder twins don't have too many under their belts.
They are just goofy fishes that flop all over the place, spew rocks like mad, and racecar squiggle.
Don't have any idea what the fuck you're talking about Lavasioth is a cunt as usual whose only saving grace is pitiful HP.
But nothing, NOTHING can prepare you for the new Plessy in MHX.
I'll admit, the big chubby face of Lavasioth looks
>all this Lavasioth talk
>no one mentions Agnaktor
My understand is that he's a glorious retard.
I mean, his signature attack is jumping straight up then flopping down so hard even he falls over.
So the dopey face works.
Mine was Tri, I love this series so much. Every game is an improvement, and I'm never disappointing. I just wish sony hadn't fucked up with P3rd and lost them, I want one on vita so fucking bad,
>a huge majority of the monsters encountered so far in MonHun4U are wyverns
I'm loving the game and I just beat Megablocks, but Jesus...
That's 1st Gen monster roster for ya.
It was unique for its time, but now it aged like milk. I say that 2nd Gen was where monster designs start getting good as they diversify the roster with crabs, monkeys, quadruped wyverns and an octopus.
Lagiacrus' roar lasts like 6 seconds when you're on his back. If he does it twice, you're fucked.
Shit ever since Dos, the only time he was an actual threat because you weren't swimming in items.
Monster Hunter 1.
Picked it up too late for the online play sadly.
I love the franchise to death and back, but I feel that the recent titles are giving way too much power to the hunters without giving a corresponding boost to the monsters over a gradual pace.
So you go through low rank, high rank, starter G rank with everything pretty easy, then BOOM suddenly everything ratchet ups to crazy levels and suddenly 140s.
Also, totally not the games fault but I'm not a fan of the general trend of "You aren't using *insert set here* then you are worthless".
Especially when the people who say that are usually the ones who fail more often.
>They took away the teleport counter-attack in MHX.
I don't know how they would make it gradual, either you're getting your ass kicked or you're not.
4U is now what MHFU was when 3U was out, it has unique content and is one of the best but it's not the latest.
I keep telling them to stop ruining the game for themselves. Stop playing online, stop using the weapons the tier lists tell you to use and for god's sake, stop grinding the monster you don't feel like fighting.
Ehhh it wasn't that so much as people just split off into camps and spent the entire threads shitposting each other instead of playing the game. The help a newb could get was also pretty varied, some days you could get legit helpful advice and people willing to help you will req quests, other days you'd get "LOL YOUR SKILLS A SHIT, GO SOLO ENTIRE GAME FAGGOT"
Name one quest you have to do twice to progress.
>tfw no mainline crossplat multiplayer release on PC with these visuals
Slowness is an integral part.
Monster Hunter isn't a fast-action button masher. It's about economy of movement, recognizing the time various moves take and calculating what is best for the situation. Mastery of said system let's you do things like a full Greatsword charge on a monster that isn't stunned.
I think it helps it appeal to more people, since everything isn't twitch-button gameplay it's more accessible to new players.
There is no MH game where both the visuals and the gameplay are good.
You either get the good mainline ones we have with subpar visuals, or you get the stunning CryEngine visuals with recycled broke ass 1st-gen gameplay + MMO elements in addition to pay2quest.
Easy - They release one MH game per year. If the development cycle was every 4 years they could make one game where every aspect is top notch, personally I prefer the DCSS approach to things and giving nothing but content at a frequent basis.
I don't wanna import the game just so I'm not behind...
When do you think English release?
>G-rank garuga guild quests
It's bad enough in g-rank, but having to fight it apex is new levels of bullshit that I didn't think were possible.
Anon, it kept giving me that "unkown time remaining" bullshit.
I even sat there and waited until it said 1.5 gigs were downloaded, only for it to say 0%.
Do I have to use chrome?
what the fuck are you talking about? also
>give some ... take some
Do you know what a changelog is? What am I saying, of course you don't. Well, you see, a changelog is where they list all the changes they have made to the game. If you take a look at the changelogs, you will realize that they remove quadruple the content they add, on average. This dates back to about 0.6
When will mainline have animation as good as MHO's?
Tri as well
I've played Tri, 4U, and I'm currently playing X but I can never manage to get into the series enough to get to G rank.
On top of that, early game is a drag. It's there to help you get your inventory established for the later quests, as well as to serve as a tutorial for newcomers, and I can't really fault them much for that. But at the same time, when you've already played the previous entries in the series, having to go through 1* and 2* quests is a drag when you know the real meat only begins much, much later.
I only keep coming back because
who doesn't enjoy hitting big things with a large weapon
>Graphics is all that game has going for it.
I hear that a lot. But at least in motion it looks to be the same experience. Is something wrong with it mechanically compared to the mainline games?
A ton but unless you're a series veteran you probably won't understand why they're bad. I can list a few at least.
>grindier than regular games
>freemium stamina "pay to not wait" system
>inventory size locked behind paywall
>everything worth a shit behind paywalls
>Enemy AI downright awful
>on screen numeric damage indicator (a huge no-no)
And that's enough.
>having to go through 1* and 2* quests is a drag when you know the real meat only begins much, much later.
Its painful in MH1 because the real meat is locked behind egg quests.
It's mechanically somewhere between MHG and MHFU, plus some MMOlike elements like damage numbers.
The game has pay to win consumables.
Also, daily quest limit (of 10). To play more, you have to pay.
SnS is so broken in MHX
>roundhouse slash hunter art that makes you invincible and can save you from nearly anything and is literally the best hunter art in the game
>shoryuken that stuns better than a hammer and is also good at breaking parts
>flurry slash that is quick and does a ton of damage and also breaks parts too very easily
>striker style allows you to have all three of these hunter arts at the same time and charge them quickly
>coating for affinity
>coating for mind's eye
>coating for increased stagger rates
>coating for exhaust
Basically, being an SnS user means that you no longer need Mind's Eye or Earplugs/HGE. Because the Mind's Eye coating means you'll never bounce. And the roundhouse slash can negate all monster roars.
Wait a fucking minute. You can go online even with pirated game?
THAT IS LIKE DREAMS COME TRUE.
Time to steal 3DS from those kids in the park.
Yeah you can.
These pirates did a fucking amazing job.
Don't play with Japs though, play with /v/ or /vg/. If they see somebody acting non-Japanese they will report you and ban you.
Roundhouse Slash is literally Compass Slash
and I love it
>tfw big fan of Monhun since 2G
>try out MHX
>its not that fun
I dont know if the new style stuff is little too overwhelming or I am still burn out from Rajang hunting
and fuck I hate hobo phase in monhun
Fuck off, my point was that they can't even join the quests where the game gets fun. I'm not spending another minute in low rank.
IKTF, but don't worry, when MHX gets rolling it goes full Uragaan
No its not true
and thanks for making me laugh
FUUUUCKKKK when will monster hunter come to the ps4 I can't stand playing this shit on 3ds. I give up man
Where's the lock on and zones should be open world are the only two I agree with.
Being able to play on PC/Wii U would be nice for bigger screen but I can deal, and portable is nice.
Go 4U because the weapon trees/key quest lists/wyporium upgrades/etc are on the web and in english. It's not about what's prettier, X really is better when you've gotten other MH games under your belt.
Lock On makes these types of games too easy
The idea behind the maps isn't a "world" per say, so much as each area is a unique arena where you fight the monster. Open world would ruin the game.
Basically, fuck you. I wrote the OP as bait anyways. You people need to stop falling for it
Who thought this was a good idea? Who the fuck thought that shit was in any way good for a fight?
Dark Souls relies very heavily on blocking everything or phasing through attacks. MH relies more on positioning, so a lock-on would actually be detrimental since it's much, much hard to gauge distance and target specific parts.
It's less a problem now but when the games were on PSP, or pre CPP, the camera was ass and lock on would've been amazing. It's not like your character would necessarily have to strafe with lock on, just to keep the camera on him.
It would fundamentally change the game, but it could use some mixing up at this point and it would make you feel more like your hunting monsters
Backstabs are king in Dark Souls
Not locking on makes it a thousand times easier to quickly roll behind things to backstab them. Plus it's better for dealing with multiple enemies at once than locking on is, you can angle your swings to stagger multiple enemies easier.
>it would make you feel more like your hunting monsters
>make you feel more like your hunting monsters
>MH games have significant issues and some of these are actually true
>people still think the games are good
I mean, if you like grinding for new armour and shit and don't mind the slow combat or lack of proper lock-on I guess its good considering how well it emulates actual hunting, but I don't like it.
I'll take Freedom Wars or other MH-clones that aren't MH any day.
Help me out here.
I'm currently at the 2* high rank in mh4u on my old 3ds. Should I hack it and get mhx or should I finish mh4u? I'm an offline player mostly because of poor batterie life.
When you kill a monster, you should be able to choose to be rewarded in monster parts rather than the money bounty.
So if the bounty is 5000z, you can either get 5000z or you can select up to 5000z's worth of monster parts to take.
"Rare" parts would obviously be more expensive, regular mats (like monster bone and ores) would be inexpensive.
This would completely replace the random drop system, so you don't get any random drops in your quest rewards. You CAN still carve, though. although doing so decreases your bounty as you aren't delivering a complete carcass.
On the other side of the fence, after capturing a particular monster, its parts should be able to be purchased from vendors in the future (assuming the Guild carts them off and sets up a breeding program for infinite mats). The particular pieces available here would be random, but they'd be available nonetheless.
So with this system there would be virtually no fighting the RNG, while still maintaining the incentive to fight the same monster multiple times. It would keep the "grind" elements but make you feel like you're actually working towards a goal, not just bashing your head against a wall until what you want drops out.
If they made this one change then MH games would be GOAT.
They weren't hard, they were just a pain to solo since Hades had so much HP. If you weren't hitting his face 100% of the time with the most broken set in the world you'd time out.
The hardest quest is still MH2's Yama. Without bring Frontier's retarded Redjang into it.
>This is my new OC, EvilSSJ8DarkRath
>She has absorbed all 7 chaos beryls and is x100 times stronger than white fatalis. She can spit poison fire
No she cannot, you're thinking of Espinas. At least shitpost right guy.
r8 my OC
>She can spit poison fire
Hey I did that first
>Black Ian goes around and takes a bunch of the best moves from other monsters
>Then uses them all together
She's just the monster version of a mix set.
If hunters can do it, so can monsters.
Are you triggered son? By a fiction?
Learning MH was such a pain in the ass
Why do I want to go back to that time before I was gud
Absolutely love it but with every new installment i'm always slightly disappointed that they are adding new things but never address ages old issues like weapon balancing or how elements work. And if they do, they usually do the opposite of what is needed, that is, they just nerf everything that's not, like, 3 pure raw GSs into the ground and call it a good work. Camera would really like to get some damn rework. A bunch of other nitpicks, but no use talking about them anyway
He got mixed up with Producer for the Director.
Come to think of it, Fujioka went off to make Monster Eggs.
The best MH games were all directed by Ichinose.
Monster Hunter, just come back to your origins please.
>all those kiddie Japs getting raped by Ember Dinovaldo for the first time
