>>324155193 Let's not pretend how fucking massive assholes the Taiidani were and their use of underhanded tactics and tyrannical rule >Hiigarans have claim to some worlds >Taiidani decides to assassinate and replace council members in favor of the Hiigarans so they can pretty much steal them >Hiigarans realize that the council is full of shit and dancing to the Taiidan Imperium >Stumble upon one of the 3 hyperspace cores, make a plan to strike a decisive blow to the Taiidan empire >Make a new super flagship (Sajuuk's Wrath) to carry it and their entire fleet straight on top of their capital world, ignoring all of the other civilian worlds and destroy their royal guard fleet >Rightfully lay waste to their planet >Galactic council (note, 'Taiidan' council) demands that the Hiigaran empire surrender their fleet and core >Bentusi acts as middle men and come to retrieve it >Gets a bit cocky and try their luck at galactic dominance by taking out the Bentusi >Get absolutely rekt >Go full "If we can't have it, no one can" with the core and crash Sajuuk's Wrath into the moon to destroy it >With the entirety of the Hiigaran navy destroyed the Bentusi head home >The Taiidani then decides to mobilize their entire fleet and genocide the entire Hiigaran race, system by system, leaving no survivors and stealing their planets. >The council pleaded to the Emperor to stop to no avail. >They eventually came up with a compromise and had every hiigaran make a choice, get onto a transportship and get exiled to the outer rims or get turned into slaves >Hiigarans knowing that the Taiidani were assholes, smuggled the their hyperspace core onto one of the ships which the council and taiidan thought was destroyed >fast forward some centuries and the Taiidani empire has grown even more decadent and corrupt >Hiigarans un-earth the second core and wants to go home >Taiidan finds out and genocide them once more >Hiigarans are absolutely fucking enraged and seeks righteous vengence NO, fuck you.
>>324158101 >Hiigarans tried to genocide the Taiidan >Hiigarans tried to genocide the Bentusi >Hiigarans tried to genocide each other (multiple times) The Hiigarans can't wage a no-genocidal war, and theya re suppose to be the good guys?
A game where I individually fit and retrofit every ship in my fleet. Because this is what fleet is optimizing ships for a doctrine, and trying to keep them safe. I'd be okay with standard fighters as long as they're not as expendable as they are in HW2. Actually nothing should be as expendable as they are in HW2.
>>324159146 >Implying taking out the seat of power = genocide >1 planet = the hundreds the Taiidani tore down in retaliation Nah, as for the Hiigaran violent streaks, guess it runs in them But who wouldn't be fucking pissy if your home was 90% sand
And for the bentusi attack, I guess the power got to their heads, still riding on the high of taking out their nemesis capital thinking they could do anything they wanted
>>324159586 Yup, when people ask me why I think homeworld is good, I tell them its because of the storytelling and narration, 3D RTS combat and designs comes second
>>324159842 >Anonymous 01/16/16(Sat)19:29:33 No.324159146 ▶>>324159586 >>>324158101 >>Hiigarans tried to genocide the Taiidan >>Hiigarans tried to genocide the Bentusi >>Hiigarans tried to genocide each other (multiple times) >The Hiigarans can't wage a no-genocidal war, and theya re suppose to be the good guys? >>> id like to know about the factions of this game
You're what's left of your own race, you have nothing more to your name than a mothership containing less than a million people for repopulation who will serve as your crew and some space coordinates of what once was your homeworld according to a prophecy (as in, old datacharts).
It's all based on a story that happened to a tribe in Asia, just put into space.
>>324159842 Yeah, I do have a soft spot for the Kushan/Hiigarans though. But I'd like them to explore the other races/factions as well. Like who and/or what are the T-mat? etc. Guess that's for Homeworld 3 to decide when it eventually arrives. Wasn't blackbird gonna help develop 3 with gearbox when they finished Desserts of Kharak?
>>324159963 The guy who become Taiidan Emperor became crazy brutal after the Hiigaran nuked the homeworld. Also what the Hiigarans did was basically teleporting to nuke Washington and expect nothing bad will come from it.
>>324160112 I liked the first one and each race have their gimmick when it comes to traveling space. Second had weird design decisions because the main guy didn't want to make the same game twice and game was essentially unplayable at release.
>>324160459 Yeah, but it was basically a hiroshima/nagasaki solution to prevent an all out war, nipping it in the bud The Hiigaran ancestors were dicks as well, not gonna deny that, thinking they could defeat the Bentusi
>>324160150 >It's all based on a story that happened to a tribe in Asia, just put into space.
Didn't know that.
I liked both games, loved them back in the day, but now they feel slow. I don't even enjoy gook click crap. But damn were those games slow, would really benefit from a fast forward button like Defense Grid.
I remember my battleships could jump, not in single player I guess.
So how excited are we for Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyN-Nl-SaDA Is this gonna be like the remaster where all the old fans come out of the woodwork, play through it and then it is never discussed again ?
>>324161930 I'm pretty excited, but I hope they don't ruin it by making a cheesy over the top sci-fi, and that carrier is not promising.
The remastered would've kindled a neverending discussion if it had not removed everything that made the first game great. If it's going to be similar to remastered then I'm sure the interest will wane pretty quickly.
Also I hope they don't turn it into a story of Sjet, I don't want my favorite game series to end up like SC campaign.
>>324162198 Exactly why. They Taiidan design has this ugly utilitary toaster as flagship, fits perfectly for the guys who are starved of resources Meanwhile the Kuushan homeship is a fucking highrise with windows for the Evil Emperor to watch
>>324162992 If you play to break it, you can break every game. But it's the first time you play counts, you probably didn't even realize that they were just waiting to be captured and you tried several methods to pass them. They could've just tweaked the AI's reactions to being captured, they shouldn't have ruined the whole idea.
The real reason I'm so salty about the subject is that when I salvaged ships I actually felt like I was managing through a hard time for the exiles. Not enough resources, fleets made up of random ships stolen from enemy and such. While the second game is also enjoyable it misses the point from my view. I wanted to cry when my fighter pilot said cabin pressure dropping, I never asked for meh I'll build another squadron.
>>324153779 >Why? Because? What kind of question is "why" to a 0/1 inquiry? You can´t make your own ships because it is not in the game, because the game was not made with making your own ships in mind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztEd_p8RQG0 Will you all be getting Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. Even though it's 2D I was always shit at Homeworld anyways because of the 3D aspect. I think I much prefer incorporation depth in the game with things like Dunes and giving advantages for height.
You're the same kind of faggot that does this for any game in a progression of games aren't you? I would bet 1.5b dollar lottery money that you are the same kind of faggot if not ONE OF those faggots that constantly shits on DaSII not for any other reason than >lel DaS was better You are the kind of person that forces yourself to hate a video game for the soul purpose of spreading a meme and shitposting. So while everyone else is enjoying the game and having a good time the only people left hating it are people like yourself who get nothing but dissatisfaction and wasted money all in the name of shitposting on 4chan.
>>324163728 >why does the voice acting in an old space RTS blow away everything produced in the last 10 years? Actually, it does not. There are plenty of games with amazing voiceacting out there. In case of Homeworld, while the voiceacting is a huge part of the experience, and it is unquestionably really well done, it was more about EVERYTHING just clinking in place. This is something that happens when "all the planets align", when you get a team that is entirely on the same note and with a really good idea - something that happens less commonly nowdays, I suspect mostly because the teams tend to be bigger, and the management of the projects is more cynical.
>>324170123 >You don't see the value in mechanics, only visuals. >I'd rather be me than you. >implying
K. Even though they are releasing the patch that fixes the mechanics of HW closely alongside this games release for the HWR. But that's fine, be a bitter poorly informed neck beard who can't have fun anymore.
>>324169976 You may be right, maybe my goggles are a little to thick, but goddam. I would give so much to play HW1 again for the first time and feel that sense of exploration only to have it crushed when you jump back to the ruined scaffold. That was a level of emotion games haven't really hit lately.
Games like DA: Inquisition etc etc all reach for emotional impact and fail so hard because the characters are two dimensional and archetypal, where as a character in HW1 didn't even have to be shown and you grew attached to them.
I'll give a chance. Make an ACTUAL argument. What is your issue with them, that makes it, as you claimed, "Halo Wars: Console RTS" edition again. Because that is a really fucking weird thing to say considering that it's clearly a PC game with a PC interface and literally nothing suggesting any kind of console influence what so ever. Can you actually make a coherent argument about what you find wrong with the game at this point? I know I can, actually. But I kinda suspect that the other fella is right: you don't really have a clue why you are complaining, you just do it because that is kinda what you fucking morons do. Feel free to prove me wrong.
Also, what the fuck does >This is remastered's fualt. (ignoring the fact that you can't spell "fault") mean?
Man, why can't more games do it like the homeworld devs? >See fucking huge floating ship carcass in distant space. >Using relative reasoning, that hunk of metal is 100x larger than your ship >your ships has millions of people on it already >God only knows who/what build that planet sized monstrosity and for what
And it needed no exposition. Didn't need any words about it anywhere. It was there and it made you wander and added to the atmosphere and beautiful explorative feeling.
>>324173598 >Its a neat prequel to give us more insight about kharak itself and its history. Actually, no. It isn't. Because they are butchering the original lore, which was one of the best things about the game, to shoehorn the Homeworld iconography into it. Despite the fact that actual story pitch for the original Hardware actually sounded far more interesting.
I'm still curious about the game, and I'm definitely not rulling out the possibility that it will be a neat game after all. But the fact that they set it into the Kharak history was dumb idea on so many levels it's not even fun. And between this decision, and the story of HW2, I'm really starting to doubt that these people know what they are doing, and Homeworld 1 was not just a fucking lucky break.
I can tell you that nothing would make me more happy than being proven wrong and having to take back everything I just said. But from where I'm standing, it looks like one of the most awful ideas in the history of the franchise.
>>324174657 >and? Well, when you have a good thing, shitting all over it for the purpose of making more bucks is generally not a good thing to do.
>Whether the original lore is good or not is subjective anyways. First of all, it isn't. Second of all: what kind of fucking argument is this? >We found some shit in the desert >everyone was fighting >finding this shit brought us together >only because we held on to it And is exactly NOT what happened. Which what made the fucking lore interesting. You literally don't know a THING about the fucking story, do you?
>>324175091 Asteroids are fine if you know what to do. I stopped playing in fucking graveyard mission. I remember completely cheezing it when I played the original, but apparently they patched that at some point.
>>324175549 It's not what's written in manual. You know, the primary source on this? Have you not fucking read that thing?
>>324175727 >Have you not fucking read that thing? I mean, I assume you have but your condescending tone tells me you either glanced at it and deemed it the Jesus of video game story or you never read it and someone told you about it so you can act like a tool on the internet.
>>324176216 >I played HW1 & 2 but missed cataclysm, what did I miss? Mostly really shitty gameplay that lacks a UI (you seriously build ships out of a pause menu and research as well) but you also missed some cool story kind of.
>>324175892 For starters, point to me the part where they say "everybody was fighting". Because the religious conflict has actually ended two hundred years before the discovery of Khar-Toba. You know, the Tor entry (A3) talking about "begging of the age of reason"? Literally second page of the manual? The "everybody was fighting" literally ended up when gunpowder was discovered. Kharak was united and peaceful LONG before the theory of xenogensis was actually even considered as a scientific possibility.
So no: everybody was NOT fighting, and they the journey to Khar-Toba was NOT bringing everyone together. Literally everything you stated about that past the "we discovered shit in desert" is wrong. Blue on whine. On the fucking link you gave me. So my question is: Do you have any actual medical condition that would somehow explain this incomprehensible level of stupidity? And if not: WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?
Homeworld Remastered ruins Homeworld by changing it to the Homeworld 2 engine, which fucks up a lot of things.
Relic's history is of making an awesome game that did everything differently, and then steadily ruining every game since by copying more and more from other RTS games instead of sticking to their own thing.
>Want to play Cataclysm >Want a remaster I believe the lost source code is a load of shit and one of them has it. I know for sure Paul Ruskay has the audio. Deserts of Kharak looks good and I hope it does well so we can have Homeworld 3.
>>324178117 It's not the formations that I miss, it's the A.I. and hit detection in general. Each unit acting as an individual rather than all of them governed by shared A.I., their ability to target different targets, and finally the projectile-based hit detection.
The final part of the three is maybe least gameplay-effecting, but I really miss the spectacle that thing brought up, like watching a Scout accidentally fly into a path of Heavy Cruiser cannon.
>>324178689 >hiigaran space boat What? >>324178836 >Its a crossover with that shipgrill japanese game I know, It's called Kancolle irc, but seriously, it looks like they barely even tried to get the Homeworld feel in
To be hones it doesn't looks like that feel can be captured in that particular theme anyway
>>324170316 >K. Even though they are releasing the patch that fixes the mechanics of HW closely alongside this games release for the HWR. But that's fine, be a bitter poorly informed neck beard who can't have fun anymore.
Gearbox has been updating HWR, but at a glacial rate. Their last update was fucking August 20th 2015. Their last update for the official balance mod was September 2015.
