Low poly+ high res textures = king
I just can't wait for 4k to become standard. Even downsampling it on my ancient 1920x1200 monitor, it still looks gorgeous. I can't imagine how much better it would look if it was native.
Can sprite art count for this thread?
Wait a minute. I just finished playing Jedi Academy and it looks NOTHING like that.
What the fuck?
Also why the fuck I can't activate the saber realism thing? No matter what method I use it never works the same way it did in Outcast.
I think developers have prioritized polycount over textures, that was the entire story of gen 7, all those blurry, awful textures.
Also lighting has taken a backseat. The first FEAR had some nice lighting, explosions making light sources shake and such looked amazing. These days it seems developers barely care about lighting at all.
I don't have the webm, but someone posted once the grenade shaking the lights in FEAR.
I look at Witcher 3 today, and you see Geralt without any shading in many pictures, which look awful.
If you complain about current gen graphics you're either a contrarian asshole or you have a shit PC
isn't that the game that is still broken on PC?
Simple, back in the day you only needed 1 texture 2 at most. Today you need 3 textures and no upper roof. It's not odd today to have around 12 different textures for a hero character. The memory needed haven't kept up with what the game developers need and want to do.
Back then all you need was one diffuse texture, you have the resources to crank it up to 512* or 1024*. Nowadays games need diffuse, normal, specular, ambient occlusion, this and that and if you toss 4K* or 8K* into the mix, a shitty little boulder would probably blow up your GPU so to speak. It just isn't worth it. I mean let's be honest, gamers want all that 8K bullshit but complain like babies when it doesn't run well.
Man I love how customizable armor and weapons are in NWN, I can't think of another game that gives so much control over their design. I wanted this to be a feature in NWN2 but, alas...
>there will never be a good star wars game for at least 10 years
>maybe not ever again
Yeah I remember people saying this, today there are way more textures onscreen, compared to the Max Payne 2 pic where it's the same texture all over the place.
Still, I would love to see a low poly with high res textures artstyle. I think it works best. Bonus points if they can throw in some extra lighting effects that games usually can't have on consoles as well.
Problem with BMS for me was the marine AI. They would instantly start shooting as soon as a sliver of you was exposed. Might as well play the original and have a better experience.
Stagnant graphics is a pretty natural phenomenon. Yes, texture quality is too goddamn low these days but as far as model detail goes, upping the number of polys doesn't actually make things look better.
Gothic 2 had better forests. Also Skyrim's world is actually pretty varied when it comes to biomes. Especially compared to Oblivion.
the trees in the distance look better than default uGrids trees at that distance in skyrim and dont even get me fucking started on the ps3 version
also gothic 3 is a good game with the community fixes, and gothic 1 and 2 are above any work bethesda has or will ever do, just some facts thrown to the wind
The leaves of trees in gothic 3 are just shitty sprites like Oblivion.
>gothic 3 is a good game
but gothic 2 is the best arpg of all time, I'm not sure if saying it has better everything is even relevant at this point
its gud with community fixes senpai, at least better than fukkin skyrim
You don't know what you're talking about. Max Payne 3 is the stylized one (neo-noir, gritty aesthetic) whereas GTA V actually has realistic colors. Go outside family.
Don't get me wrong, GTA V looks great. Just not a fan of the artstyle. There's a bunch of minor stuff that collects as a whole, like the gamma being a bit too high so it's almost like there's a white film over the game.
That's why there's stuff like VisualV that makes it look 10x better, along with removing other things like chromatic aberration, and clearing up the picture by toning down a lot of the PostFX junk.
GTAV is shit even maxed out and they still havent fixed that long distance flicker that GTA4 had so much of, plus its fucking jagged as fuck unless you use the heaviest AA options coupled with 4k DSR
However, the nvidia shadows in that game are absolutely gorgeous, especially at night
The z-fighting? I don't have that issue. But yeah, jaggies have always been a problem with GTA with all the small objects all over the place.
I've been debating between Softest shadows and the Nvidia PCSS shadows.
this fucking game man
Maybe be on the grown and at the same distance
>stronger than 360
Jesus Christ all this delusion in this thread
How do people with a straight face say these games look better than newer games?
Gothic 3 looks leagues better than Skyrim and a better game too.
I agree with your point.
That webm though, why the fuck would anyone go through the trouble of making a realistic sky/weather simulation in a game where most races are over in a few minutes?
I have this problem where no matter what DX I play there are these very low res pixellated textures for this game. I've tried a lot but can't seem to get it to change
This is a PC port of a PS3 game.
Shogun 2 still looks pretty good for a 5 year old game thanks to a solid art style. Attila does look better and doesn't suffer the same ugly LOD popin though.
A lot of these are games that came out in the past five or so years. Who's the fucking retard posting Max Payne 3, Witcher 3 etc?
If you're nostalgic about those game's "aging well" you're fucking 12
