Lots of closed doors.

>>324147046
That, too.
>>
>>324146926
It's pretty neat for the 5 minutes that it works before crashing.
>>
A must play because there's no other FPS game like this.

one of my favorite games of all time, I'm not going to lie it has a few game ending bugs but I've played through multiple times, it happened once.

pros
>great story
>atmosphere is amazing
>stays pretty close to lovecraftian mythos for fans
>some of the best action sequences in any game ( escape from fishmen, escaping in the car scene, accidently releasing monster from attic
>gunplay physics
>has some serious platforming elements at parts
>visual and auditory hallucinations when character looks at frightening things (looking down when high up, seeing dead bodies)
>character can commit suicide if he's holding a gun when too scared
>certainly the most unique healing system in any game i've ever played

cons
>game ending bugs (can be remedied by having a few saves)
>main character sounds like a retard
>crowbar from morrowwind
>>
>>324146926
It's really neat, but it's buggy as fuck.
Voice acting is pretty lame.
>>
where is that one image detailing how fucked the dev process was

I've tried to play this game multiple times but I always stop because it either bugs out or I get bored of the shitty gameplay. Shame, because it's got great atmosphere and from what I've seen of the ending that flying polyp part looks intense

Love it, favorite horror game. Just recently played Amnesia for the first time and it can't hold a candle to Dark Corners of the Earth.
>>
>>324149517
Oh come one, the Innsmouth-residents sound great.
My favourite by far is that drunken guy.
>>
>>324150046
Especially if he's just watching people he fucks play it. He should be playing with them.
>>
>>324150621
Agreed, but your character's is really bad.
That woman's at Innsmouth wasn't very good either.
>>
Fuck I'm damn afraid of horror games, and this game hit me the worst. The atmosphere was overwhelming, it was immersive as fuck and didn't let me alt-tab. I made it through the prologue somehow, but when I was fucking aroud Innsmouth and saw some scary as fuck red body in an empty window 10 meters before me I just fucking quit
>>
>>324150797
Yea, he sounds as if he sees this all day, makes it look as if the voice actor was bad too.
>>
It's great. Buggy as fuck, but also a very thorough showcase of even the more obscure Lovecraftian creatures.

What other game has let you encounter Mother Hydra, flying polyps and shoggoths in a single game?
>>
I think I'm the only person who actually liked the gunplay in DCotE. Everything felt like it had weight.
>>
IT WON'T OPEN, IT WON'T BUGDE, IT'S LOCKED: The Game
>>
>>324146926
Pretty great. A couple of the action scenes can get ridiculous and break the atmosphere a bit. But it has some fucking amazing setpieces, like a fucking scary as shit chase early in the game and some shenanigans aboard a battleship. And they're a lot more organic than in modern games.

I played the Xbox version and it runs fine. Too bad about the PC version being so buggy. It really should have been the superior version.
>>
the ending island part was insufferable and i didn't finish the game because of it

rest of the game was great once you got past the parts where it crashed
>>
>>324151683
This. Enemies didnt react to getting shot that well (no gore etc), but sawed off and rifle were super fun to use.

Amazing game.
>>
>>324151370
He sounds properly haggard in some scenes but his overall narration lacked direction.
>>
Did anyone else have to look up how to get past the Coral Reef?
>>
>>324151727
All the things that are locked are pretty realistic though. You can't just expect to barge into a town of xenophobe's houses.

Can you be more gay. Those non-subtitled subtle little things he says to himself quietly like a schizo when shit goes down is unsurpassed in vidya
>>
>>324146926
The game is a charming, hot mess that can't decide on what it wants to be. Oldskool stealth will either be great or annoying. Shooting elements are high impact and pretty unforgiving. The damage and recovery model is interesting, but underplayed. Insanity effects are pretty good.

The Lovecraft universe doesn't get a whole lot of games. Shame this one couldn't have been better.

It was clear that the designer was either reaching will out of his scope or did not have a clear vision.
The programmers just weren't up to snuff to handle rolling their own 3D engine. Sure they could techdemo and build prototypes, but the fact that game behaves differently based on resolution says that they did something wrong on a fundamental level.

inb4 somebody posts that copypasta whiteknighting the devs when they couldn't handle the Xbox. The X1 was just a closed PC.
>>
>>324152987
Average PC on DCotE release was around 8 times more powerful than xboxhueg.
>>
>>324146926
Dunno about /v/'s opinion but it's one of my favorite games of all time. The Xbox version that is. PC version is broken as shit and playing it through 360 backwards compatibility has a lot of extra minor issues that ruin the feel of the game. Like music not playing in certain levels, ect.
>>
>>324146926
Broken as shit, another game that stole money from me on Steam.
>>
>>324153286
Didn't expect Bethesda to put the game on Steam when the game has clear issues with resolution scaling.
>>
>>324149236

Why would the monster in the attic murder her own daughter?

The entire premise of the game was that Dagon wanted the frogmen to interbreed with humans.
>>
>>324154519
Because it was no longer her mother.

That part of the game was straight out taken from Colour Out of Space.
>>
>>324146926

the chase scene when ur in the hotel is the best part

How many big bugs did you encounter during the game?

My game kept crashing on one part where I had to push the bookshelf until I crouched

If you read The Shadow Over Innsmouth, the guy voice acting Zodak Allen in the game literally sounds how Lovecraft wrote his dialogue in the story.

in the inventory screen there's a matrix of body parts as columns and medical supplies / tools as rows.

there are a number if injuries you can sustain, for example if you fall you can fracture your leg or break it, causing your character to limp in agony.

so the screen you'll be able to apply a splint to the affected leg, and your character will bend down and take a fair amount of time to actually perform the action, which means if you're being chased it's not really a realistic action to take. so in that situation you could quickly inject yourself with morphine to mitigate being slowed by the broken limb to help you escape.

but taking morphine will give you a bunch of visual and auditory hallucinations
>>
>>324159134
Basically when you get hit you really get hit. Theres no bullshit COD mechanic where you slowly get your health back - if you break your leg its broken unless you get a medpac and patch it up. You'd also walk slower, unless you take a shot of morphine (which fucks with insanity and makes you dizzy)

if you hurt your arm your down the sights aiming gets harder, etc etc

shame this game sold like shit, people wonder why they keep getting the same crap rehashed all the time and they only need to look at this game's sales to figure out why

>>324161596
This, the game would be silly if the protagonist didn't try to use any of the guns laying around, the guns don't really make you too powerfull either.
>>
>>324146926
I've wanted to play it since Spoony recommended it. Is it on Steam?
>>
>>324162227
Yes, but you'd be funding Bethesda who didn't bother fixing bugs and denied the devs any possibility to fix them. It is morally right to simply pirate it.
>>

>>324163535
My only criticism would be at times when things are really tense, Jack is whispering to himself, and the mood is high but then you'll interact with something and he'll speak in his normal confident voice. It's a video game and these things happen but it's a wee bit immersion breaking.
>>
>Get Steam Version
>literally three bugs the whole way through
>>Jumping into the refinery conveyor hopper at one point caused a crash
>>The lights on the beach not rendering (had to get a fix for that)
>>Resolution bug

Nothing major, tbhwyl.

10/10 atmosphere. Gunplay was acceptable. I didn't like J. Edgar Hoover slapping my shit, stealing my lucky charms, and telling me to man the fuck up though. Eat a dick, Edgar. Monsters good. Horror good. Graphics entirely acceptable. Always running out of sutures.
Fuck the goddamn truck. Fuck it right to hell. Even the refinery chase was way better.

You mean when trying to climb the ladders? Because that's probably one of the few ones that will fuck it up for EVERYONE.
You need to just jump down the ladders though to prevent that from happening.
>>
>>324167971
No I think it was when I was going into this room or hallway behind a wardrobe, and the game crashes as soon as I step inside. I tried it like 10 times, installed a community patch, uninstalled the patch, used different compatability settings, ran it in windowed, anything I could think of. No dice. Running Win 8.1, if that helps.
>>
>>324155506

>>
Never played this game, but it looks like it's infested by bugs. What should I download to make the game playable on a modern rig?
>>
>>324169053
Just google "Call of Cthulhu Patch" and you'll find pretty much the only thing you'll need to play it.
>>
>>324170115
Cool, thanks.
>>
>>324170321
Oh and also during the prologue remember to jump down the ladders, during the esace from the fishmen in the warehouse there's a savepoint behind a bookcase which you shouldn't touch and during the final escape your FPS needs to be 30 or you won't have enough time to finish it.
Those are the most common problems which the patch won't fix.
>>
>>324170662
>your FPS needs to be 30

How can I do that?
>>
>>324170812
Usually Nvidian and AMD both have their own programs that allow you to tweak such things to certain degree.
If not then you can just use something like FRAPS to restrict it.
Someone might have better solution though.
>>
>>324170812
FPS doesn't matter, IIRC. It's resolution.
If you're playing with it widescreened on high resolution, you die in chase sequences because you effectively move slower. Therefore, if you're having trouble, scale it down to 800x600 and you shouldn't have too much issue.
