I thought about that, OP. But then I realized that it's hard for me to go back to 30 fps now that I've been exposed to 60. I'll never be able to play anything below 144hz again if I get used to that.

I respect that this is like eating shit so you don't get spoiled by good taste and flavor, but still.
>>
>>324132887
Yeah that's true. Only once you've seen 144 you start to look at 60 and go "what the fuck this isn't smooth"

144Hz is of benefit only to people running 3D shit. If you buy one of those without intending to use 3D you are no different from the morons buying 240Hz TVs.

You do not have superhuman vision or reflexes, 120Hz is overkill already, 80Hz is perfectly acceptable.

They already covered this shit a long time ago with Quake 3 and CRT monitors.

Once you hit 45 fps gaming performance to framerate ratio starts to decline. At 60fps it starts to sharply decline. At 80fps it basically stops, increasing the framerate higher resulted in pretty much no improvement.

I know, there is no excuse to not use 144hz and G-sync. It's not really worth playing anything without those two, even watching Chinese cartoons becomes better thanks to your monitor rendering the frames at a more stable rate with G-sync.

How are we on 1080p/144hz/IPS screens these days?

I still use my korean 1440p monitor, and I love it, but since my work laptop refuses to acknowledge it I wouldn't mind changing back to some legit 1080p screen if I atleast get 144hz, and possibly g-sync since that seems pretty neat too.

I just want a big curved monitor that runs at 144hz and has less than 1ms input lag, great contrast and warm colors. Preferably it needs to be OLED as well.
>>
>>324135650
>an extra 80 frames PER SECOND means faster possible reaction times from the player

As much as you want to believe your reaction times are on the scale of milliseconds they are actually on the scale of hundreds of milliseconds, far slower than even a measly 60fps. When you up the framerate all you do is up is the amount of frames that pass before you react, not increase your reaction times.
>>
>>324132339
I use a 1280x1024 monitor
>>
Most games won't be able to achieve that framerate without turning down some settings. So its usually better to get an ips 1080 or so panel with 60 hertz

at 144fps the enemies have the ability to appear 2-3 frames earlier
If you think 3 frames is irrelevant in multiplayer FPS games then I don't even know why I'm talking to you.
>>
>>324136210

>>
>>324136132
Fewer frames between you making an input and the game responding to it.

And if you are playing on a server with a lower refresh rate than you have the client side interpolation could result in enemies being visible when they wouldn't normally be. While you couldn't kill them it'd still give you information you wouldn't have otherwise.

You have absolutely no clue.

I will grant you that 120 - 144 is negligible, but the rift between 60 and 120 or even 80 to 120 is evident if you have ever used a 144hz monitor and played games with an uncapped framerate. Crystal clear, no debating it when you sit down to play, and yes it makes gameplay smoother and snappier as fuck if you have a decent mouse with high polling rate.

This feels so ridiculous having to always read shit like this online while I use a 144hz monitor to read said nonsense.

Used to have the same bullshit arguments with people saying "30 to 60 fps is negligible".

>>
>>324137683
I have 4 monitors hooked up to a rack in front of me. 144hz main monitor, 144hz above and 60hz to the sides. Simply moving the mouse cursor to the sides reveals how fucking choppy 60hz is compared to 144hz.

I never noticed it before, and you will never know until you look at it with your own eyes. Dragging a window to the 60hz monitors is jittery as fuck.

Once you see it you can't unsee it - it's like when everyone went from SD to HD television and movies. You go back to an old movie or show one day, and you look at it asking yourself how the fuck you even watched it in 4:3 or <480p. Can never be unseen.
>>
I really don't recommend buying a 144hz monitor if you cannot run newer games at least at a minimum of 144 fps which is very unlikely.

Is this that bullshit air force test again?

That has nothing to do with this. What happened there is that a single, simple black shape on a white background was flashed for a fraction of a second. It was gone long before the cells in the eyes could even begin to realize it's no longer there so the image is actually retained on the retina for far longer that it exists. The brain gets that information and registers that something was there for a flash, it doesn't know how long it was there, it just knows there was that image at that location for a "fraction of second".

That test does not translate to what we are talking about at all. On the contrary, extensive tests have shown if you try the same test except flash the image in motion footage of something or other nobody sees it at all. Even when you greatly increase the amount of time it's displayed it still doesn't register.

Don't just make shit up dude. I can play Half-Life for an hour with fps_max 80, then uncap it and immediately see and feel the difference.
And don't say 144 is the cap either. Because of the way frame latency works without vsync, there are benefits to playing at framerates above the refresh rate of your monitor. I can feel the difference between 300fps and 400fps in CSGO.
