What vidya has the most satisfying Critical Attack?
>start to get pissed
>about to burst when you realise your unit could die in the next battle
>pulls off a satisfying killer critical hit and survives the chapter
Feels soooo good.
the gba Fire Emblem games were amazing. Still the most satisfying combat animations.
Ys Memories of Celceta had these two features that felt so satisfying to pull off:
>block at the very last splitsecond and you do a flash guard, completely negating damage while the camera zooms in a little. If you keep blocking an ongoing attack (like a laser beam or an enemy attacking you with a string of quick attacks) you keep doing flash guards and you feel like Daigo doing Evo moment 37.
>dodge at the very last splitsecond and you do a flash move, where time slows down for 4 seconds while you move at double speed and do 100% critical rate attacks
Critical hits in Fire Emblem serve only to anger me at least two thirds of the time. I could be the one who gets crit, which sucks. I could crit and be safe because of it, which is nice although it feels like a cop out. However, the most frequent occurrence is scoring a crit for a kill on the defensive phase such that whoever got the crit now has to endure another strong attack and more often than not this results in me resetting.
>just started the game again
>Manage to get lyn and guy in a corner with several Bandits
>Both of them decide "maybe ill let this less than 30% to hit bandit put an axe in my head"
Never get a critical when i need it.
I think flash move does not give you crits, just slow motion, but the guard does give you guaranteed crits for like 3 seconds. I've been playing this game the past couple of weeks and I'm pretty certain of this. It's also why I only use flash guard.
Either Swordmaster or Berserker since they get them all the time. Although I also liked Fae's crit
>tfw Rutger gets 100%+ crit chance
How does Banner Saga stack up against Fire Emblem in terms of mechanics?
I mean pre-Awakening stuff, I didn't care for the support based "character creation" stuff with passing down skills with certain pairings.
More like, in terms of things like class variety, etc.
I know the combat system in general is a lot different. There's an armor system and your HP is also tied to your strength and there are active skills.
Not quite related, but
>opponents completely frozen during party member's ultimate attacks
>unleash frieda's attack, since hers is the longest
>use all of your most costly attacks and bring basically every boss down to near-death
>END OF THE LINE
>(level up noises)
even as i lamented how easy the game was, it never became any less awesome
Personally, I thought Banner Saga was boring and the combat was uninteresting
There are a bunch of different classes and skills but only a small handful are any fun, the combat just consists of plinking everything to death and your choices don't matter
Golden Sun, I love how heavy the attacks are in that game
Too bad they ruined the feeling in the DS sequel
Some of these fanmade animations are cool. Who here's hyped for Midnight Sun and Bloodlines?
>too heavy to lift without speed loss
>piss poor damage
>not the Durandal
>tfw max stat Lyn
>still does like 8 damage
>does shit damage to bosses
AT LEAST SHE HAS GOOD EVASION!
This might seem like a weird choice to some but I really like the way Fire Pro does it. A big flash across the screen and then the dude is just completely out.
how did such low-budget games have such nice animations
Actually just started FE7. Never played a FE game. Is there any characters I really should look out for? Only just at Chapter 3 after I got the sword so I'm still really early on but worry about permadeath.
I liked the headshots in Shadows of the Damned.
sick of this meme
there is nothing impressive about vanillaware's animation
PoR is pretty decent. I've heard RD goes full retard on the story and drops supports, but has some of the best gameplay of the series (perhaps barring Fates, but I haven't heard any direct comparisons).
i like how the the sages crit they just throw the magic crystals with such purpose, its fucken bad ass
I just started today as well. Only now finished the fifth chapter.
Word of advice from someone who is bad: the next character you get is frail as hell. Do not let her fight anyone unless you're sure it's a one-hit-kill.
I never said it's bad, it's just that people herald it as "amazing animation" when it's the same tricks canadian flash cartoons use to make shit cheap. It's just easier to mask with pixels.
The visuals themselves are great though.
Let me try that again
>answer it yourself
nice thread faggot
I played the first 8 or so chapters and dropped I learned it didn't have real supports. I'm considering playing through PoR again and continuing through RD sometime soon.
Thanks for your concern, though.
The Knights in Fates look cool as fuck at least.
Cool armor, and their crit is a shield bash followed by a stab.
Not him but I still think it should be talked about happily. What's sad is that there were people at Nintendo that needed to be taught how to do pixel art for Mario Maker because a lot of them came to them after they stopped doing it with the DS.
I have no clue, it looks fine in my folder. This only happens when I post it here. Maybe it's because of 4chan
Great animation does not preclude artists from using any specific set of materials or styles. The reason why people think Flash animation sucks is because there was so much cheap shit that used zips from pose to pose and didn't use even half of the assets that Momohime's sprite sheet has.
Warrior crit with axe always looked satisfying as fuck.
When does he show up?
Damn it now I'm scared about ever person I see. I know if it has a picture they can be recruited but I also hear about how they love walking into enemy bases and die fast.
You can use pretty much any units you come to like and you'll be fine. FE7 isn't difficult. Hard Mode only has 2 or 3 chapters that may be troublesome.
Arenas if you really want. Don't send in a heavy defense unit unless you want them taking Silver weapons to the face, though.
>still have my 7 and 8 carts and a GBA
Fuck you guys for making me want to play this again
Not to be the dota tard but Phantom Assassins crits are fantastic
Raven left such a good impression on me because of that critical animation. It's a shame he couldn't romance with Rebecca because of his butt buddy Lucius
>Brigand fucking yells during his crit
Also Mercenary's is great for that simple smugness.
You had to go all the way north until you reach a cave, on the other side there was a town under heavy snow and a serie of quest to get the potion needed to heal that fucking cunt of a tree.
Also gotta love the "Our magical power are giving us a magic shield against this cutscene tree magic bullshit, we will never talk or see something like that ever again !"
>land a critical hit against some stall faggot in Pokemon
Why would anyone use Garcia when Ross exists?
Raven wasn't related to Rebecca you dingus, that was Priscilla.
I'm gay, but i had such a boner for both Priscilla and L'Arachel, its not even funny.
I love my Valkyries.
when you crit this fat fuck
>getting cucked by your waifus brother
Ross is a better berserker. Garcia is the best warrior. Honestly I like them both and Ross is by far the best tier 0 character because he doesn't actually like an immature brat like Amelia and Ewan (even though Druid Ewan is fucking broken )
Clarine single handedly pulled me through the whole game
It's a fact that troubadours are always best girls. ALWAYS.
Awakening's animations in general were pretty bland and generic. Even the crits.
At least Fates stepped up its game in that department. It's still not GBA levels of flashy, but some of the animations are pretty neat.
L'Arachel is such a great character and a great unit
She can level up fast because of endless healing, and then promote and wreck shit up as a Mage Knight (or Valkyre who cares)
This nigga and his double magic attacks. Saved my ass many times.
You can either reset when someone dies like pretty much everyone does outside of a Ironman run or pick up one of the titles where you can turn permadeath off. Awakening and Fates are the most recent titles where you can turn permadeath off. Fates even added a Phoenix Mode where units will revive on the next turn if you're truly fucking terrible at the game.
Embrace your autism. Leave no one behind. Bait enemies (always check their attack range and move someone tanky just outside of it) and then follow up with a stronger unit. Basics.
Also, instead of thinking you need to level everyone, focus instead on Lords first, then a small select few to build an unstoppable army.
Also learn how to rescue juggle to save someone in trouble. Marcus is really good for this early game. Later on when you have flying units can fly over water making enemy melee units unable to attack them.
Most levels have a boss and you need to defeat him to advance. He awards a shit ton of experience. Have a weaker unit deliver the finishing blow. Also, if he doesn't have a ranged weapon equipped, take him out with archers or magic.
It's the other jumping animation that has Lyn's delicious 15-year old boobie jiggle.
The first two GBA games went out of their way to be colorful and flash to compensate for the original GBA's poor backlight.
You can see the different in the very next game, Sacred Stones, which is somewhat more mundane in its new animations and especially its color palette.
Since 3DS already has decent lighting, they don't need to bother making them flashy.
>using high skill/speed instead of high str/def characters with just enough skill to not miss and enough speed to not get doubled
>turn into 5 clones, teleport all around you and kill you in one hit.
>psh, Nothing personal kid
>liking that embarrassing tryhard shit that looks like it was made by an actual twelve year old
>using the trainees
>having to grind their shitty asses
>going warrior on Ross to begin with, ever
>talking shit about Garcia
WHO /ARCADE/ HERE
BEST HEADSHOT SOUND COMING THROUGH
Shittily enough, the video doesn't do it justice, and there are only so many videos of the game. The loudness and zing of it as you consecutively headshot is the most amazing feeling ever
The guys in the video have the shittiest fucking aim I swear to god
I'd rather not have to stop to grind, just use good units and move on
just like I don't use faggot flying horses that die to 1 arrow, so I don't have to reset the entirefucking chapter because I want to use some kawaii uguu grill who can't take a hit
I just want a GBA-styled FE game where we start as a bandit clan that manages to solve a civil war or something. Expand on a lot of interesting class trees
plus you could put spearmen and shamans in the party and say fuck off to cavaliers, mages and knights, hell you could even fight lords.
Probably the first one, and just specialize.
Pretty sure in most games you can eventually just power your way through a weapon disadvantage anyway,
Looks cool, but damn why did they have to do this to Elevator action? Such a classic game.
I fucking love the young lord Hector animation where he just throws the axe on his shoulder and smirks before going into it. It makes it seem like there's so much weight in the strike.
All three of them are broken as fuck.
Amelia as a general gets the benefit of max speed max Def and max strength
Ross gets to turn into a berserker, which is good as it is.
Ewan gets to become a fucking druid in a game with only one other extremely shitty druid.
Amelia and Ewan are pretty much unusable without some kind of grinding, which makes them both garbage.
A lance fighter with 6 con and 4 strength at chapter 9 doesn't contribute to your team in any way. You're better off feeding kills to units who are already good.
It is amazing because it is a trick that works fucking great.
Stanley Kubrick did the space scenes in 2001 with a black cloth with little holes for a background and made one of the best movies ever. No autist ever came up to say 'UUHRR IT'S JUST A CLOTH GUIS HE DIDN'T ACTUALLY FILM IT IN SPACE STOP PRAISING IT SO MUCH"
>get bored on Hoshido/Hard at around chapter 21
>start up Nohr/Hard
>holy shit this is awesome
the quality gap in map design between the two campaigns is ridiculous. chapter 10 of Nohr was pretty fucking wild; why couldn't they design cool maps like this for the weeb side instead of shitty Awakening 1.5 maps?
the lack of grinding also means they actually had to try balancing it so it wasn't retarded like Awakening Lunatic
Took me waaay too long to find you, EarthBro.
In a similar fashion, nothing quite compares to a sweet-spotted, fully-charged Smash attack in Smash Bros. That, or a PK Thunder II into the other three combatants with five seconds left in the match.
I can concede to Amelia, even though you're still giving up literally the best general.
But Ewan can at least snipe kills from afar, and easily level up that way. Dark magic is strong, and knorr has god awful luck and god awful stats, meaning Ewan is the best druid in the game as well (and literally the only other one)
I like the baseball bat's sound effect, but the Earthbound crit-hit sounds so savage.
In terms of sound, that wooshy noise in early Pokemon games was great. You knew the fucker's HP would bottom out after a single hit.
Not really a critical hit, but Paper Jam's new attack's are fucking brutal and satisfying to pull off
I can't find the full animation, but in the Giant Luigi Bro's Move, Luigi runs and hammers the enemies and Mario into the air
And then Mario basically GRINDS THE FUCK OUT OF THEM, to the fucking ground on landing
Like holy shit that's satisfying
Is it more satisfying than the giant bird fight where Luigi basically pulls down on the birds legs, then basically fucking slams him into the ground to get him to stop flying? That shit was satisfying as fuck.
Spoilers for future units names I guess, but every named unit in the game that isn't a boss is generally recruit able, so not really spoilers
Both Hector and Canas can carry the fuck out of the run, especially on the final level
Since you're new, units that generally turn out great are Sain, Kent, Raven, and Oswin. They're all gonna be very survivable and easy to use.
There are squishier units like all the Pegasus units, Heath, and Guy; though they will take more care to keep safe. If you can get them going they turn out pretty well too.
Pretty much pick anyone you like or who starts getting good levels ups and you'll be fine. Most prepromotes are gonna end up weaker, so it's better if you have units from early on to keep leveling.
Only use Marcus as a lifesaver
>Playing Shadow Dragon
>You have to let one of your companions die
>Play FE8 on hard
>Second to last chapter
>Every time at least one character dies to horde of undeads (cause he can't stop critting)
>Say fuck it and try the chapter with pic related alone
>Unleash of the allmight
>Run out of tomes halfway through.
Love the artwork of the gba titles too.
>enemy attacks you with an accuracy of 40% or less
>you attack with an accuracy of 80% or more
>you level up because of the 1 exp you just got
>nothing increases and level up window closes
Ryouma is so OP it's a little fucked up.
Also, ever notice how Bishops pray for forgiveness for wrecking somebody so hard when they crit?
God I genuinely miss these Fire Emblem titles.
That said, the new games (Fates in particular) have wonderful battlefields and sprite design, but the 3D models are arse.
End my suffering as an European waiting for the inevitable later launch date
