>>324085629 Already sick of them. In the last 6 months played Witcher 3, Fallout 4, MGSV, Mafia 2, Black Flag and probably a bunch more. Theyre nice when done well like Witcher 3 where theres interesting shit all over the map and not like any of the ass creeds where theres just collectibles and thats it. More linear experiences can be great.
What are some of your favourite recent open worlds, /v/? I really enjoyed GTA5 and Witcher 3's, they had real attention to detail, even if a lot of people didn't stop to check out the fun details in GTA.
>>324086186 I agree, I preferred MGSV's over TW3, the Open World facilitated the gameplay, it's all the about the Open Infiltration, that's what it's made for. A lot of open worlds just try and create a bit messy sandbox full of pointless shit to do.
>>324086743 The map is totally empty aside from a smattering of very discrete points of interest. The game would have been much better off as a collection of Ground Zeroes style locations. Big enough that you have freedom, but small enough that they don't waste their and your time on a bunch of sand.
>Game hinders itself incredibly just so the entire world can be seamless
There is literally nothing wrong with loading screens if your level design is good. I would rather have loading screens with dozens of diverse maps instead of uninspired feilds of nothingness without them. See SoC, I dare you to give me an open world game with cooler environments.
the maps were empty as fuck, anon. it would have been loads better if it had
>more indoor facilities to sneak around inside >innocent civilians >Factions like the Mujahideen and miltant groups in Africa >more dynamic patrols >rare SKULLS unit encounters that randomly happen outside of missions
literally nothing of value outside of Los Santos that you can't already find in the city, unless you're one of those conspiracy autists who think there's actually believes the dead end easter eggs in the game.
>>324091293 Well, one of the complaints is that there's usually a lot of nothing in there type of games. In F4 i felt like every 20 steps there was something to explore, a cave or a building or whatever.
>>324091923 Thing is though, it was ALWAYS some cave or building ALWAYS filled with enemies to kill and loot for random, often useless shit. It was shooting gallery after shooting gallery reusing the same assets and enemies. Sure it had some sort of interesting backstory or gimmick once in a while but I was still bored to shit.
>>324092373 Witcher 3 wasn't much better. It's a great game but for every place like Hindhold and Lornruk you have 10 generic copy pasted monster nests and random fucking towns with one merchant and nothing to do
>>324092975 I do agree. A lot of the Witcher 3's contracts and places of interests were uninteresting and the smuggler's caches over Skellige was fucking bullshit. I'd still take Witcher 3 over Fallout 4 any day though.
I'm playing through Saints Row 3 right now and it's a perfect example of what I hate about open world games. There's just nothing to do in the whole city but replay longer versions of main missions. And most of those aren't even fun the first time around. There are some collectables but they only give $1000 each and you make 30k every couple minutes just by leaving the game on. I did get a cool looking car/motorcycle from doing the hacking minigame but they're not any better performance wise than a lot of cars and trucks on the road after spending $200 to tune them up.
>>324086374 It seems to just be a meme thing to hate on MGSV on 4chan. Everywhere else people are praising it, especially on Steam. I watched some videos of it and I must say it is the most impressive looking game of any game I've seen released this year.
>>324093651 Saints Row 3 is a straight up downgrade/reboot of the series
>Earn territory by purchasing rather than doing the main missions >Fanfic-tier story >Lifeless Pedestrians >Unreplayable missions despite being able to using a mod >Terrible endings >Not a single reference to Dex's storyline which was focused upon in SR2 and it's dlc's
>>324095372 >It seems to just be a meme thing to hate on MGSV on 4chan
Look, I love the series, but I hate MGSV. I hated it before I came back to 4chan from my month long hiatus and I continue to hate it of my own accord. My opinions about the game are my own. The game is a disappointing turd.
