Why does the touch pad even exist? Is it literally only there for the possibility of Project Diva Arcade?
>>
>>323999514
>Is it literally only there for the possibility of Project Diva Arcade?
Won't even work well for that.
>>
>>323999514
I wonder if it would even be there if it weren't for the Wii U controller.
>>
Touchpad is great as just an extra couple of buttons.
>>
It has a lot of potential functions if devs would quit using it as a giant select button.

>multiple hotspots that could be assigned to menu or command shortcuts
>add gestures or multi-finger to the mix for more commands
>>
killzone used it alright if i remember right, don't think i've played another game that has used it other than a menu button
>>
>>323999514
>Why does the touch pad even exist?
so sony can JEWstify dropping DS3 Support to mandate his drones to buy new controllers
>>
>>324000770
New console means new controllers. This is how it's been since the very beginning, and yet it is only now in 2016 that you've decided to single out Sony and PS4 for it.
>>
>>324003503

what is ps move? Sony puts useless, or almost unused gimmicks in their controllers since previous gen. I hope this trend discontinues, because all these gimmicks do is raise the price.
>>
>>323999514
I wish more controllers had the back paddles from the steam controller. Pretty much the only thing I liked from that piece of shit.
>>
>>324003503
Ps1 controllers worked on ps2.
Ps3 was understandable since no ports.
Ps4 has no games, no ps3 bc, so in turn no ps3 controller despite almost being the same function, wise

The PS3 allowed me to use PS2 and PS1 pads with an adapter.

The WiiU works with all Wii controllers and even the Gamecube pad.
I use a PS2 pad on my Dreamcast.

The PS4 doesnt support anything from previous generations and Sony actively patches out adapter support, effectively treating people who want to use their old controllers and arcade sticks like pirates.

See the difference?
>>
>>323999514
>Is it literally only there for the possibility of Project Diva Arcade?
No, I think it is there is because the Vita has a touch screen and back.

Considering how Sony hyped up the PS4 and Vita connectivity, It probably is there for remote play and cross buy purposes.
>>
What's more pointless?

Touch pad or light bar
>>
>>324004158

What does the light do? Just decoration?
>>
>>323999514
For cross comparability with the Vita. Unfortunately for Sony the Vita is selling about as well a day old turd, so the touchpad turned out to be pretty useless.
>>
>>324004376
It drains your battery and reflects from your TV screen so you always gotta stare at a shitty blue light.
>>
Does the PS4 controller still have an accelerometer in it like the PS3 did?

I own a PS4 and I still don't even know.
>>
>>324004415

Would a fresh turd have sold better?
>>
>>323999514
Would've preferred just regular start & select buttons in it's place.
>>
>>324004460
I don't know about that but the gyro controls are the best I've seen.

I'm sure the culprit for the shit battery life is a combination of that and the touch pad.

Really?
>>
So you cant use your old PS3 controllers and have to buy new controllers
>>
>>324004540
You don't have to pay for overpriced memory cards to use any sort of turd, so it wouldn't surprise me if it did.
>>
>>323999514
It works as a track pad on pc so u can use it to get the cursor away from the screen without having to move the mouse :^)
>>
The touchpad is cool on PC and PSTV.
>>
>>324004651
tinfoil hat theory from /nintendogaf/ about the big bad sony boogerman
>>
>>324003927
Sony also released an addon that lets ps3 users transfer their ps2/1 memory cards saves to their ps3.

However the thing wasn't in production long and now its over 100 dollars on ebay.
>>
>>324000246
the only developers that really take advantage of its features are first party developers, which is no surprise.
third party developers dont really bother since their games, for the most part, are multiplatform games and they want to try to keep everything the same on all platforms.
so no gimmicky touch pad stuff on ps4 and no kinect stuff on xbone.

I thought so too, but it's actually not as big of a hindrance as you'd think; it's the touchpad that sucks the battery away. Both are still useless.

Screw the touchpad, let's talk about the obnoxious light under the controller

Which is worse?
>>
It works very well in Tearaway. Honestly its a neat feature that developers just are not using fully.

Hopefully thatgamecompany does something interesting with it.

>>324005109
I kind of like that the light changes based on certain occasion. Like in amplitude it changes color based on the ship color you pick.
>>
>>324005001
Share is actually a decent addition. Can take screenshots & video then transfer to PC. You may not like that sort of thing, but this forum itself is proof that a large majority of people do. :^)
>>
I know EDF uses it as a quick-access for different shouts.
>>
>>324005163
Nah mate, I want no glare on the screen. It's cool if you like that, but don't force that shit on me.
>>
>>324004651
Yep. Shit like the Brook adapter suddenly stopped working after a Firmware update.

Now they work again, but thats just because they found a way to bypass Sonys bullshit.

Sony only wants you to use verified PS4 controllers.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/197708/brook-ps4-xboxone-controller-converters/p10
>Guys.. It's confirmed the 3.11 update reverts the adapters back to 8minute timeout.

one fanbase defends their gimmicks no matter how shitty it is.
the other admits their gimmicks are shit.

its kinda obvious nintendrones are the worst.
>>
I've got the feeling that they tried to fit in it most of the vita's features so they could easily port the good games to the PS4
>>
>>324004158
pretty cool how it changes color for different characters in GTAV and flashes red and blue when the cops chase you though.
>>
I think it's a cool idea but since it isn't a universal option it will never be utilized in an interesting way.

the touchpad does drain much either between both of them they actually dont use much at all. if you really want to save battery turn of vibration. those motor suck up more juice than anything

>>

> they actually dont use much at all.
So why is the battery life so much worse compared to the PS3 pad?
>>
>>323999514
In some mmo´s you can use it as a mouse cursor which is pretty handy.
>>
>>323999514
When connected over bluetooth I can control the mouse cursor on my pc with the touchpad which makes lying bed and browsing shit a dream
>>
>Press the touchpad to start

I dont even know why the bother with this any more. It made sense when it was called the start button, but now.

I'm considering one of those for that instead.

Typing on a pad sucks.
PS4 pad could be alright for switching games in emulators I guess.
>>
>>323999514
I'm sure tearaway used it pretty well.
>>
>>324004376
Ideally, it sets up ambient lighting when you're playing in a dark room. Most people just find this distracting but it can be a nice subtle effect if you don't focus on it, like in Outlast it would go green when you activate night vision and flashing red when you're near death. Most games don't use it well at all, though.
>>
touchpad has the potential to be good because well it's just a functional touchpad with extra buttons. The issue is it's underused or even worse misused
>>
>>324009038

It's 2 big ass fucking comfy buttons

How is it pointless in any way?

Ît literally does 0 harm to have the touch featture. Everyone is free to use it or ignore it. It doesn't take away the fact that it's still 2 extra buttons

Touch pads on controllers are the worst idea it was shit on the Vita too.

The touch screen on the Vita was also pointless as hell.

Please, Sony! I really want to touch the screen, smudge it to death so it needs cleaning constantly and risk scratching it. That's what I want in a handheld!
>>
The touchpad is a mouse on my PC, together with it being wireless makes it a pretty good remote control to be honest. Great for home theatre setups.
>>

The light bar is for VR.

Since they were unable to actually talk about it till the announcement they couldn't actually say what it was for but after the engineers let it be known.
>>
>>324004457

>pointing left stick right and right stick left makes the tip of my thumb slide a bit across the touch pad

It'd be fine if you could turn it off. Also,if you're wondering what game,GTA V. I kept switching weapons without wanting to.
>>
Touchpad is great for navigating menus, webpages and shit

I don't think it was really intended to be used as a button in games
>>
I'm playing Second Son currently and the touchpad controls aren't that bad, actually.

Sliding to open cages or hold up those generators feels pretty natural.

>>323999630
Arcade has a slide input

>>324004376
PlayStation Eye uses it.

But it's mostly decoration. It changes color contextually with the game.
Best use I've seen is Amplitude, where the light changes to the color of the lane you're on.

>>324004457
Set the light to dim.

>>324010290
>pointing left stick right and right stick left makes the tip of my thumb slide a bit across the touch pad
Literally how
The sticks are so far away and they're RAISED
