I think the thing with Saya no Uta is that it's a rare example of overlap between a VN containing things normies find innately disturbing and a VN normies have heard of.

Saya looks pretty young, that alone made some people I know who've played the game very uncomfortable.


Personally I rate it as one of my favourite VNs, very atmospheric.

Eh, it's okay. The one thing I feel it does really well is creating a sense of dread or paranoia. The kind of mentally screwed protagonist combined with the sudden changes in tone keep you off-balance while you're reading it, and it does a nice job of building up the mystery/suspense early in the game.

Unfortunately the story gets pretty dumb as it goes on, almost every character is unlikable as hell (especially the protagonist), and the pacing isn't very good, so I find it a bit hard to recommend. If you're really in the mood for a VN there are definitely worse things to read, but I sometimes had a hard time getting through it.

I'm told the anime is garbage but personally never saw it so I don't know if it's just one of those cases where VNfags are being super autistic about necessary changes/omissions or whether it's actually a bad adaptation.

The second mission in Hitman Contracts when you find the girl you have to rescue dead and she's all mutilated in a creepy ass room. Only thing in a game that's ever skeeved me out.
