Is it so fucking hard to get a good stealth game? I'm supposed to pay 60 bucks for a game with only 2 fucking levels? I really wanted this game to be good and I knew Square Enix would fuck it up, just not this badly.

Pre-order fucking dropped.

Neither books nor film always tie up overarching plotlines in a single volume/episode, why do games need to be any different?

If the game has tight gameplay and a tolerable plot, while being optimized for PC at a reasonable price point for the length of each segment (with you paying the same amount over time vs a single purchase at the end), why would you mad? Being impatient isn't a valid argument.
>>
Nothing has really changed other than the fact that they're releasing less content in the initial version so they can get it out the door faster.

We knew the game wasn't being released in a complete state since June.
>>
>>323984928

So you'd be fine buying a book chapter by chapter or a film scene by scene? Cause that's what you just said about videogames. Fuck off reddit.

An episode that takes several hours of gameplay to complete is not necessarily the same as a single chapter of a book nor a single scene in a film.

You are damning this game to fail before we've even seen any actual gameplay/info on it beyond the episodic model.

At the end of the day it is impossible to know how it will do until we actually see the damn thing. It could very well be shit, but I am not convinced that being episodic makes a game bad by itself

The last time Hitman tried to have a story it fucking sucked, the fuck is this shit? This is just giving us less shit spread out over a longer period of time. Blood money had all the fucking missions at launch and it's still the best in the series.

Episodic games are the "safest" make the first 3 hour episode as good as you want. If it flop, make the sequels as cheap as possible.

You know if a game flops or not using, like, 30% of the production value
>>

Literally just

>>323984152
>>323985756
Well, for one, it will not be as coherent or well-thought out a product as it would have been if it were worked on until it was 100% complete. A TV show, for example, doesn't make one episode at a time then move onto the next, they plan and generally film and produce them all before the first episode even airs.

When you make a game episodic, you can't go back and revise earlier parts of the game to make the story/gameplay/whatever better or more engaging because you already released that content. You're basically setting the tone and general plot for the whole game much, much earlier than you normally would, you're writing and coding yourself into a corner and you have no other alternatives. You can't really edit or change anything.
>>
>>323990918
>When you make a game episodic, you can't go back and revise earlier parts
you absolutely can. updates
>>
>>323982212
Ubisoft should've done that with Splinter Cell. They almost managed to do it with Double Agent, but then they fucked up by adding the double agent missions
>>
>>323982025
But that's wrong. 60 bucks gets you all the shit as it releases. Think of it as one of those "season passes" that have become the norm in recent years.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsfHIH-Nk0c
>>
>>323990918
Plenty of TV shows only plan an episode or two ahead.
>>
Why are we getting back to episodic gaming? It failed a decade ago.
>>
this just means I have to torrent more than once for the entire game.
>>
>>323991295

>>
>>323980265

>>
>>323980265
I'll wait to see the payment structure but Im not holding my breath
Game industry is already the largest in the world and the rise of digital sales in the market has only helped this. They cant go claiming that the upper development costs demand upper pricing
>>
>>323991248
No, updates do not completely change core gameplay mechanics, characters, entire settings, story arcs, etc. and even if they did that is a waste of time and resources, release the game when it's done.

Once you release the first episode, that first ~20% of your game, all that is more or less set in stone as opposed to it not being final until the game is almost entirely complete. I'm talking basic design-stage stuff, not small tweaks/updates once that's all been decided upon. When you work on and release something, regardless of what it is, piecemeal, working one piece of content at a time, it will generally end up being a less-focused product.
>>
>>323991606
Most do not.
>>
>>323991336
>>60 bucks gets you all the shit as it releases.
So you're paying full price for an incomplete game with periodic releases that the consumer base has to wait for because marketing. That's fucking stupid and a terrible business model that only works if your customers have sufficient reason to buy your product in parts. Stretching it out after paying full price makes no sense.
And season passes have generally been for multiplayer content and have had no bearing on singleplayer campaigns.
>>
The way they use the word "locale" makes me think the game will just be a small amount of levels repeated with slightly different objectives or community made objectives instead of a decent number of unique and well designed levels like Blood Money.
Hope I'm wrong but the developer literally hasn't released a good game in over 10 years.
>>
Didn't this all get announced months ago?

Man. I really wanted this game to be good and sell well, I really did.

But shit like this? Why? They are going to just confuse people, they have changed their mind about the business model like 3 times now. This is going to bomb, and it's all going to be because of this stupid model that make people confused instead of hype.

The last thing you want on release is anger and confusion. For fuck's sake Square, delay the game, sell it whole. You're shooting yourself in the foot.
