Why did Nintendo pick such a generic cover for SM64?
Also, lore thread. Either here or >>323976520.
These are always very productive. Do Nintendo game not have an end in depth?
>Why did Nintendo pick such a generic cover for SM64?
Did it really matter back then? That shit looked amazing as a kid.
Stop talking our your ass.
tfw didn't know myself, so I did research on it.
WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAT?
SM64 HAD TWO RELEASES IN JAPAN
The jap cover is the same "mario flying with the wing cap" box art as the US version, but with a slightly different background.
The cartridge art is a different 3D render though, It's pretty boring compared to the US version to be honest
I like thie white background for some reason, and it's showcasing Mario's new ability. The blue sky without clouds also looks pretty nice
This looks worse than the other japanese one despite having bowser, i think getting rid of the blue circle ruined it for me
I like it when the art is actually art and not pre-rendered graphics
But it's lacking bowser
Look at that grotty piss stained yellow background, step your game up Nintendo.
>the cover for the second cart used the box art of the first Japanese release.
>"hmm I wonder if the DS release used the cover of the second box if they differed"
This is the worst cover of all time.
japan definitely wins this one
Shows more character
no piss background
They did this for a couple of games, including Wave Race 64. I never knew that SM64 was one of them, though. Most likely, several Japanese companies believed that the gaming market was far stronger and much more willing to spend in Japan than overseas. I remember Squaresoft / SquareEnix doing this with several of their games.
Without the white background and snazzy gold emblemed ring, without the penguin and the ice land, and with an ugly, uncentered zoom of Mario with an uglier, unnecessary red bar that looks retarded on the side.
So yeah, I guess the same. Or not, you dumb retarded queer. Why are you acting like I fucked your fat mother over box art? The NA one is shit; it's a fact.
For that matter so is the cartridge art.
>The Jap cover is stylish and has that old school Mario feel
>getting so angry you don't even reply
It's literally the same art in a different position.
Yes. You can't even fucking see Fox or most of the Arwing.
I didn't say it wasn't. I said it has no style, no proper artistic integrity. You can present the same piece of art in both great and less than stellar ways and as is typical with all of NoA's work, they fucked it up.
Remember when the original version of SM64DS, 64x4, had Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Wario all running around in the worlds simultaneously?
The spherical world's have been a thing since the mid 90s with Nintendo. Started with the 100 Marios demo that even turned into the cancelled Super Mario 128 game. That turned in Pikmin. Finally the concept finally debuted in Mario Galaxy 11 years later.
>Goku, Super Saiyan 3, Krillin is dead and he thinks his opponents each have a Dragon Ball
>Saitama, a grocery store sale ends in an hour
>Mario, thinks his opponents worked together to kidnap Peach, has 12 hours prep time to build up speed
Who would win?
I remember reading an article on how they tried making 4-player Mario games way before 3D World, like way back in the Sunshine days
they could just never get it working
Does Yoshi's Island not count as a mario game? Cause that had mario galaxy
> rumble pack
The biggest cancer in all of gaming cemented by the Xbone which makes it impossible to disable controller vibration on a system level without opening up the controller and snipping wires.
Seriously. To add fuel to the fire the annoying shaking AUTOMATICALLY DISABLE when the battery gets low, meaning there is already code written to disable vibration. It would take probably 30 minutes for them to release a patch allowing an option to disable controller vibration, but Microsoft can't be fucked. Once you're having this problem you've already bought the dawn thing.
What happened to this?
It's just an edited leftover from the Japanese release where you had to find some book for an old man or something.
The Wind Waker was also edited for the NA release. One of the Triforce Shards is supposed to troll you, by making you chase down map after map after map, to find it.
iirc, the place in that screenshot is a inside of some old man's bottle that you dive into to collect red coins or some shit.
it's a Noki Noki Bay stage or some shit, I never played the game.
maybe that'll help your search for the TRUTH.
I always liked the DS version's box art better.
When inside the Hazy Maze or at the Underground Lake, there is a layer of chant added to the beat of the music. Everywhere else, the Super Mario Bros. underground melody is added to the beat instead.
Who made the maps in Hazy Maze caves? Bowser, Peach, some other mysterious entity?
>mfw nobody knows about Marionette
Educate yourself, lore amateurs
these giant balls in hazy maze cave are actually Bowser's poops
They didn't even try to put some style in that title.
>Tfw Miyamoto is the guy that actually tries innovating but shit never gets past the others so he's stuck releasing the same shit
Kinda sucks when people blame him for nintendo releasing the same shit every year. He shows up the most in cancelled projects, always with a great idea, yet nothing ever comes from it. Speaking of which, whatever happened to project robot?
There is something beautiful about genericness and simplicity. At least, that's often the case. When people see something generic that represents the franchise, it feels rather "whole" and "pure" and for lack of a better word, very "Mario". It's comforting; it touches a psychological nerve and makes it feel like home. It seems to be saying: welcome back to the world of Mario.
When you find out that the people in charge of NoA translations are retarded, it ruins the magic of a lot of these things.
Are you retarded?
that was the boxart for USA, too
here look, here's euorpe with the same "boxart"
Japan's was fucking sick, but doesn't really match the game
There was once a lore about being off by 1.
Eye know that lore!
I haven't been on this board (or 4chan at all) in aroud 5 years.
Wtf happened to nintedo? Why are they so retarded?
>Smash bros and mario kart: the console.
>even less games
>no second analog stick
Nintendo consoles being Smash Bros and Mario Kart the system has been a thing since the Gamecube, for one
the 3DS is kind of a clusterfuck though
(also the new 3DS/XL has two analogs and it's the only model worth a shit)
>The dinosaur frightened some children
>The endless bottomless pits, drowning, being crushed and poison miasma mazes didn't
>Barney the Plesiosaur did
Kids back then sure picked and chose what to be scared of.
I remember being scared of the original dinosuar when I first saw it, it had a lot to do with that level itself being really creepy to begin with. Dark toned music and map, bottomless pits around every corner, spiders, plague doctor shyguys, fucking Indiana Jones Corneria boulders rolling at you, and then you have to take a long ass elevator ride down to the dinosaur's lair.
Although the design of the original is pretty spoopy on its own, it was more like the culmination of everything scary about that level (to a little kid). If it were in a more lighthearted level it wouldn't have been scary.
I'm replaying OOT3D when taking breaks from FE:Fates and it feels so weird playing as Link, knowing he dies in some unfortunate way.
Plus, I think the red left eye some artists give him looks kind of cool, even if it is a little edgy. I wonder how he lost his other eye, though.
I wonder where he got that armor from.
And most of all, I wonder how he died so regretfully.
