You're not going to be a filthy westacuck in 2016, right anon? Lots of new JRPGs are coming out this year. You should try them out.
>still playing JRPG/WRPG
from gen 7 and foward all of them are trash
Yeah you go kill that goblin, kill it good
It's actually a good word for japanese devs who do their best to imitate western style, I just hate when people use it in this board to refer to other posters (not to even mention westacuck, the most retarded word in existence).
Being allowed 2-3 routes is better than being forced on one, like JRPGs do. And because Japan doesn't understand RPGs, no other aspect of the game is made serviceable to delivering an RPG experience in the slightest.
>Being allowed 2-3 routes is better than being forced on one
It's the same shit, you just get to be the 2nd coming of Jesus or a cynical dipshit
At the end of the day you are still forced down the path the game wants you to go
Most of the games on the west are boring brown and bloom Skyrim clones. Most of the games on the right are the exact same kawaii anime garbage repeated ad nauseum. Only a few exceptions exist, like maybe Paper Mario and Earthbound. But nothing else.
>I'm gonna save the world with love and friendship hurr durr!
I've seen better writing in Undertale, and that's kinda sad.
>being an indecisive faggot
Stop pretending you are better than others and pick a fucking side. Personally I consider all who enjoy western games stupid westacucks.
See, I don't see myself as indescive, because I don't think there ARE two sides. People can pretend there is and rally against eachother, or maybe instead they can play and enjoy games. The sides to pick here is more between pissy bitch and someone that can enjoy multiple things, than between J and W
>he tries to justify playing westshit
Western RPG's haven't been good for over a decade. They've lost the great character building, roleplaying, immersive worlds and good quests that made them good, so now you're left with dumb action games with open worlds. And japs do those sorts of games far better than the west ever could because the west sucks ass at action games.
Don't you dare talk shit about my Path of exile, you gookshit.
I was asking because I didn't know, baits always give good replies.
> Kingdom Come Deliverance
looks cool, pretty hyped. Earlier editions looked like a Sherlock Holmes game more than a RPG but i'll wait and see.
>Divinity Original Sin 2
first game was OK, second game could be better.
> Banner Lord
That games combat is boring as fuck.
WAAAAY to easy to get broken abilities and strategies and just wreck. At least when I played.
Did they patch out the spinning blade infinite mana build?
>implying that westshit is worth playing
Like I said, pleb. Pleb westacuck.
Precisely. That's the same boring, pretentious theme that 99% of RPGs share these days, eastern or western. it's gotta be about the cinematic journey, or love, or working together as a team, like this is an ABC special running after school. And there's nothing inherently wrong with the idea, but it's just been overdone and underutilized, not only that but it drains out other potential ideas.
As an example, I'll point you to pic related. Notice how all the western and eastern high profile RPGs are down in the lower ranks? That's because they're shallow and all about the spectacle, instead of having substance. The best RPG of that given year was a very simple one, that didn't try to push some garbage message, or preach to you, or bore you with cinematics, or some cheesy romance. It actually had FUN gameplay.
Even though this is a bait thread it does kind of raise a good point.
Why do western developers have such a hard on for generic high fantasy settings when it comes to RPGs?
Is it because of Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings?
Why does it seem like there is so much more variety in settings with JRPGs as opposed to WRPGs?
The way I see it, the age we live in there is always going to be games of X genre being made, as there is enough wanna be game devs out there, with increasing accessibility to decent tools.
Now, doesn't mean we're going to get works of art GOAT releases for every genre regularly, but as long as we keep our eyes out the occasional gem should show up.
The list in general is my picks for "best game of 2012". Apologies, I forgot to trim the non-RPGs from it. Let me trim it down real quick.
>Desolate Hope in 8/10
>Hyperdimension Neptunia and Dust in 5/10
>Xenoblade in 4/10
>FF13, Paper Mario and Kingdom Hearts in 3/10
As a general note, the less story your RPG has, the higher it ranks. Why? Well, RPGs have always been inherently flawed by relying so much on a heavy story. Xenoblade in particular has 10 hours of cutscenes, what the heck man. And no, there's no amount of gameplay that can justify that. It's inconceivable why someone would do that.
An RPG that can be interesting without a bunch of garbage story is one noteworthy of praise.
That's a silly argument from my view. When people within that culture make a game in a way that goes against the tropes of the culture, you still get people that judge it purely from where it came from. So if the W vs J argument was within the lines of what you stated, it may have some worth, but reality doesn't represent that very often at all.
Well the issue isn't really western developers but western development (american not european).
So many kids have gone through uni and got 'Game Development Degree's' and have got WAAAAAAAAY to large. There's two major issues with this. Firstly it's harder to change ideas with a larger team. So it's hard to add or change features past the beggining of the development cycle. Secondly western dev teams are sometimes in the hundreds they have to pay these people and thus are forced to make a game that will sell, not one with creative or developed ideas. They bet on games that have large appeal, which are generally games which are easily marketable. These tend to be large games that include a bit of everything but unfortunately nothing worth while after the first 20-30 hours or so.
Until there's a huge collaspe in the AAA western industry, we will still be getting over hyped extremely average games that don't excel at any one area.
Honestly OP, i just recently played my first jrpg, Tales of zestiria. Shit was so fucking awesome, its the first time in a very lont time that i want to play a gamen when im at work. I dont remember feeling like this since idk, when i was addicted to cs, maybe?
Yeah, i am gonna play more jrpgs in 2016. Already bought fary fencer F
I think that highlighting differences in development culture is completely valid, anon, but western devs can produce trash just the same as eastern ones.
Being predisposed to hating a game for the sole reason of its country of origin though is completely garbage.
How is it retarded? You like to be cucked by Western devs who pander to SJWs instead of working on proving the thing which Western games lack the most, which is gameplay.
>ot to even mention westacuck, the most retarded word in existence
But it suits you westshit eating faggots so well.
> note my opinions on these things
> these are now unarguable facts
all I can tell from this is that you don't like RPG's. You don't like cutscenes in games. Sure that's an opinion but that in no way is a fact that extends to other people.
You should have noticed that when people on /v/ run out of things to argue about, they have to create artificial issues and divides to get themselves mad over. No way to fix it, unless mods start cleaning this sub from blatant flamewarring shitpostfests like this.
I'm not claiming my opinion to be fact, but what I AM doing is basing my findings on sound reasoning. Now, tell me if I'm wrong here:
>a video game should involve you playing the game
>a game with a heavy emphasis on story involves you NOT playing the game, but instead watching the game as it plays a fancy cgi cutscene every 5 minutes
>erego, a good game will never waste your time with more story than necessary
Is this wrong? And if you would argue that "it lasts a long time, so the cutscenes are worth it!" let me remind you that, again, xenoblade has not one, not two, but TEN HOURS of story. Honestly, the game could have 1000+ hours of replayability, but that wouldn't justify a cutscene every single moment of the game.
Okay, I'll admit that I've been away from 4chan for a long while since I spent some time in prison but what the fuck is this shit? Cuck cuck cuck? When did chickenposting become a thing?
If you don't like it then don't fucking play it. Some people like story heavy games and there's no problem with that. There are plenty of games out there and not all of them are going to cater to your tastes.
>Demonic entity that for some reason steals thoughts and memories of all the people that have ever existed, apparently it has taken a psych evaluation that has classified it as insane , also by the way it's the most powerful enemy you've ever faced, because I said so
You do realise that the first description is almost as shit as the second one, right? It's filled with over the top, disconnected attributes that in no way, shape or form create a coherent image of a character, it's on par with something pre-pubescent children usually come up with.
>Possibly an Elder Scrolls Game
>Shadow Warrior 2
>Siege of Dragonspear
Thanks. I will stick with my Western Stuff. Have fun with your stuff though OP, I hear the new FF game is gonna be great!
Hiroshimoot most likely just forgot that filter on accidentally.
It's the hottest epin meme now, you win arguments instantly if you call someone a cuck. Simply eric.
I can skip the cutscenes in TLOU, The Order 1886, and Final Fantasy 13, right? Does that make them any less cinematic, or fix the issue that they spent WAY too much money on CGI graphics and cutscenes?
I'm not saying the game shouldn't exist. I'm just critically analyzing it. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's immune to criticism, otherwise any thread arguing against the PS4, or Fallout, would be met with a ban, wouldn't it? I think we should freely have the right to discuss such matters.
>finished Atelier Sophie earlier
These niggas better show up in the sequel. Homies 4 life.
I do enjoy FF 12, but it's a very hate or love game along with FF 13. If you try 12 and like it, try Xenoblade Chronicles. They both have similar combat systems, but xenoblade chronicles feels grander in scale if that makes sense
