hey console guys, is MGO as good as it looks in the trailers? or does it just boil down to a boring gunfight every time?
it literally forgot about it until today, should be coming out later this month on PC
im just asking because i LITERALLY can not find real gameplay of it at all for some reason, google MGO and all i get are the faked "gameplay" videos from "official" people, and MGO videos from 2009, why the fuck
It's not very good in my opinion. There are only three game modes, and only one of them could be considered something other than a frag fest. Only a handful of maps, and most people rush, so it tends to be small and fast. People are just trying to grind as fast as possible because everything is locked behind an experience gate. And I do mean everything. It's already pretty empty on PS4 even though it's only a few months old, if that tells you anything.
All that said, give it a try since it's free. Maybe you'll like it.
Yeah, I stood on some stairs and went 22-1 because people just kept running up the stairs. It was pretty silly. Like goddamn niggers look around the corner first or something at least.
It was good after a few patches and expansions. It was pretty trash till survival came out.
I was in the beta, i do still love MGO and the threads with /v/ before the shutdown were tons of fun.
It's ok. It's got some real questionable balancing issues which just makes the game a pure frustration to play. Why the Servals have not been nerfed yet is beyond me. There is literally no way to protect yourself from those, other than cover. If it staggers you, you're dead because the firing rate will allow for successive shots before you can even retaliate.
Also, while the gunplay is fine, the CQC stuff is handled so fucking awkwardly. There is literally no way to preemptively know if you're actually going to CQC that guy or that guy is going to CQC you. Whenever CQC is thrown to the mix, the game just feels like an awkward and frustrating clusterfuck. You'll CQC a guy, then suddenly drop dead/fultoned by the guy you CQC'd.
There really seems to be some weird lag or delay going on in the game, because you'll get killed in cover by bullets that suspiciously bend around corners, or will be killed to easily by weapons that technically should not of killed you that easily where it hit you.
There isn't much motivation for long term investment due to how barebones it is. A lack of customization and game modes. The maps are generally too large or awkwardly designed which disadvantages one team or the other, whilst some Rush modes are too much of a faced paced clusterfuck to really get a grip on what's going on. The only real well designed one in both size and balance is Amber Station.
Also, don't expect a team based game. Yeah, there are teams, but everyone does their own thing rather than work as a team. Don't expect someone to shoot down that fulton balloon.
I'll give it credit for actually making the cardboard box work in a surprisingly Metal Gear-ish way. The cardboard box is great for flanking naive players.
6/10. At least its better than GTA Online, and the community isn't dogshit awful.
>community isn't dogshit awful.
On console, it's just reddit representing the west and laggy ass nipponese representing the east. I'm just glad that I'll be able to play on PC with less bullshit involved.
The porting job is just terrible.
Issues that have nothing to do with the game design:
-No push-to-talk, mic is always on
-No easy way to mute people
-Cannot easily access menus to leave matches
-Have to fucking go through MGSV first before you can fucking exit MGO
-Some fucking bug has made it so my waifu character's skin is always black. I don't mean black skin, I mean literally pitch black
-P2P with NO HOST MIGRATION
-The fact that the lag is unbearable, and CQC even in good conditions is terrible
-unbalanced as fuck
-Bounty Hunt is trash
-Comm Link is okay at best
-GRIND FOR EVERYTHING
>-Have to fucking go through MGSV first before you can fucking exit MGO
>-Bounty Hunt is trash
heck off, bounty hunt is fun, or at least it would be if 0 tickets meant no more respawns instead of "aaand now the game's over, kay"
control points IS shit though, dunno how you fuck up such a basic mode.
What's with the naming conventions, really? Instead of Heavy or Assault it's "Enforcer". Instead of TDM it's Bounty Hunter. Hey-- what's the name of the map with the big dam? Is it called "Dam"? Or "Plant"? No, it's Gray Rampart hurrr.
this is how a typical match goes for me
the difference between this and your average online shooter is the movement, the fact that 3rd person view exists and utility stuff like the cloaking and fultoning mechanic.
it has great potential imo, the core mechanics are pretty good, the netcode is from what I can see ok for this kind of game. but it needs way more content, more game modes, more variety, more stuff to unlock etc.
It desperately needs new game modes. Cloak and Dagger is pretty much the only mode that puts most of the mechanics the game has to use. Every time I try to play the other modes everyone just plays it like third person CoD.
There's only three modes.
1:Bounty which is pretty much team death match
2:Cloak and Dagger which is a stealth based mode where one team sneaks in to steal intel while the other defends it.
3:Comm Control which is just your standard capture point mode.
just played it for 20 minutes
i'm not sure what I expected but its still a letdown.
the lag was awful and I ended up getting locked in place near a wall for half the match while my teammates kept kicking me for some reason.
>run around in the jungle for 20 minutes
>hear people dying all around me
>can't see enemies or any shit for that matter
>invisible man taps me on the shoulder and I backflip and crack my head against a rock
>neck snaps from G force as a balloon takes me to death's sweet, sweet embrace
I suck at this
>having a bad day
>stuck with idiots who can't aim
>the other team is taking a shit on us
>whatever, I'll just finish this game to collect the exp and dosh
>3/4 through the second match
>the host leaves
WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT P2P WAS ACCEPTABLE IN A GAME RELEASED IN 2015? I AM SO FUCKING MAD RIGHT NOW.
don't worry guys the door is okay he fixed it
the worst shit is the CQC
I get CQC'd in so many fucked up situations where it shouldn't happen because of how far away I am
>tfw camping in building after I get 8+ kills because I can't count on my team to save me if I get knocked out and fultoned
>having a bad day
>playing online multiplayer
I feel for your anguish but you really should know better.
Mechanically, I like this better than any of the others. Controls, engine, map design, etc. etc.
But all that fucking loading to get into the god damned server browser... no custom server descriptions... no fucking PING listings... no push to talk or custom voice settings (have to manually mute everyone if you don't want voice, have to switch your default microphone in god damned windows if you wanna stay in a skype/voice call while playing)... Nothing you expect out of a PC shooter or even a shitty p2p matchmaking game
It's like the Japs just fucking discovered online multiplayer. Again.
Love the game. Hate everything I have to go through to play it. Can't recommend unless you already own MGSV
Playing Infiltrator is the most fun i had in MP since playing The Last Of Us MP.
Infiltrator is like playing as a hunter of sorts, you need to be patient, look for patterns in the enemy players, like what path is the most used by the other team, then depending on your loadout, you use your tactics to even up the game.
Example, if i see that a corner is used up by a lot of players running around like idiots, high bounty and all that, i put traps there to fulton them.
If i see a lone sniper, i sneak my way into him, interrogate his ass and if i see no one near i fulton his ass.
Cloak & Dagger is a fuck ton more of fun, real stealth shit.
I actually had a pretty positive experience
Playing scout is pretty fun. It's a good feeling when you toss a tracking ball down a corridor and the entire hallway lights up with enemies
I felt like there was some cheese in regards to how many shots it takes to fucking kill a person while you drop in .562 seconds if he aims anywhere near your head. The damage gap seems a little weird
I also had an issue where I joined a match and the round started and all I could see was a black screen. no menus or anything.
I'd probably play it again. It's a nice time waster
I got him back after. He still killed me again though. Good thing only going for fultons is pretty safe to do.
Honestly, I just hate three things:
-no text chat
-most maps are fucking trash
-and it lacks charm of the older games, but phantom pain itself is lacking that in single player so it doesn't matter that much.
Also no stealth deathmatch is a negative.
It might be better if I played with /v/ like when MGO2 was shutting down, fucking loved that game then.
PS3 one was fun because there were lots of codec options and there were a lot of unique and funny voices. Maps were pretty good too. I feel like the new one is missing a lot of the soul from the previous iteration.
>not playing as Based Alligator
I miss playing it with /v/ in 2012 with all the dlc.
Aw shit, you reminded me how I was kinda mad that I paid for the DLC when it was bundled together back in 2009 or so, only for it to be free 3 years later.
Ah, but then again, that Haunted House map and playing as Raiden were pretty cool.
Thanks. The one thing I do say that kinda ruined the game for me would've been shit like the auto counter on CQC EX and lagswitching.
Regardless, it was fun, and I'm mad as shit that MGO3 couldn't live up to what was liked about 2.
