>>323960480 If you haven't played From games before, know that the controls are probably the tightest in vidyaland, but they have to be because timing is everything. You cannot buttonmash your way out of much in these games, because every enemy is potentially lethal.
The first area of the game is very difficult because you have to wade through dozens of enemies in order to get to the first checkpoint, and then you have some more grinding to do before you can use your experience.
Just be patient. I'll predict you'll die 40 or so times before getting to the first boss, but you'll eventually settle in and learn via attrition.
>>323963518 After accumulating 12 insight, some enemies gain additional powers and attacks. It's supposed to symbolize the world changing as the knowledge of the madness reks your brain and soul. The game is very Lovecraftian
I just bought it recently and I'm not very far. After you beat a couple bosses it becomes pretty easy to get lost and not know which direction to take next. I opened like 3 new lanterns without ever finding another boss fight and each of those has multiple directions to leave from. Finally found Vicar Amelia after just picking a path and going as far as it will take me. Turns out theres a lot of optional content. The best way to fight things in this game is to just man up and go for it. You get rewarded for being as aggressive as possible. More strength means you hit harder and you heal more when you strike back fast enough. Arcane and Bloodtinged seem shitty and useless now, but I'm sure there's some really good late game items that use them.
I also just started and I'm wondering where I should put my points into as I level. I had a decent amount of blood echoes leftover after I unlocking the doll by beating that Cleric monster and I'm currently 10 vitality, 10 endurance, 17 str and 16 skill. i'm not bothering with arcane or bloodtinge
>>323963997 Choose either STR or SKL to get to 50, the other one to 25.
Get about 20-30 endurance, dump the rest into vitality.
Reason why is that most weapons scale with both strenght and skill, 25 is soft cap, 50 is hard cap. You don't need too much stamina, so 20-30 is all right depending on your weapon, and you definitely need more vit because many enemies will one hit kill you otherwise.
>>323960675 >Also, if you are having problems with bosses don't be shy and just summon people for coop. It helps a lot.
Fuck no, that's the worst thing you can tell someone new to Souls
Games for Windows Live, being the broken piece of shit it was, wouldn't let me sign into my account at any point, meaning I had to play Dark Souls offline. I was really pissed off because I was fucking awful at it and I couldn't summon anyone to help me. I eventually beat the game (which actually isn't very hard after that initial barrier of not being in the right mindset) and it was easily the best experience I've had playing a video game.
Then, I got my friend to play it by telling him how great it was. He finishes it, and I find out that he scummoned his way through the entire game, then told me the gameplay sucked and it was a bullshit game.
You can summon NPCs if you're having trouble (in some cases it can improve your experience, like everyone's bromance with Solaire), but summoning actual people can fuck your experience up, especially in Dark Souls II where there are enough players for you to co-op your way through the entire game effortlessly with 4 phantoms at once.
>>323960480 Although all Souls games suffer from it to a degree, this game has a serious issue of "surprise" enemies hiding behind corners that jump out to try and take you unaware. The trick only really works once, but be on guard. There are several in the early areas, and a few unexpected variations in later areas/DLC.
>>323966137 Sorry, I wasn't clear there. I know I have to buy the DLC to get the weapons, but do I have to actually go through the new areas for all them or do some get thrown into base game areas/shop?
Okay. Your next stop is either Yahargul or the optional Nightmare Frontier. Yahargul's down from where you teleport after killing Rom, Frontier is gotten to by getting grabbed by the Amygdla in the same room with the Tonsil stone, which sends you to the Lecture Building where you can exist to the Frontier.
You can get a key in Yahargul that opens the upper cathedral ward too.
>>323960480 >half of the areas in Bloodborne were as linear as Dark Souls 2's areas, except Bb had elevators which connected the beginning, middle and end of the level, which was not in any way on par with Dark Souls 1's intertwining paths and shorcuts. >can't invade people who don't have summons with >everyone using the Chicago Blade >all armor set are either: a coat, a mess of plumes, or a tuxedo with a cape >enemies don't drop any kind of armor since enemy variety is minimal to the point where you see first level enemies all the way through to the last areas >bosses don't drop any type of "boss soul" so most of the time you get no lore for them >no wrapping between lanterns > have to return to Hunter's Dream everytime >can't rest at lanter to respawn enemies, have to die or go back to Hunter's dream again >Blood Vials don't refill evetrime you rest at a lantern, despite only being able to carry 20 (more with runes) at a time. You have to buy/farm them, so you can't endesly try to fight a boss without having to go get more vials every few attempts, which could have been fixed very easily by just always giving you 20 vials or less everytine you respawn >NCP's more forgettable than the ones in Dark Soul 2 >game is supoosed to center around the health recovery mechanic but most bosses 1-2 shoot you to death >can't look back at environment and say "wow, I remember I was there! And how I walked all the way to here! Oh look, a tower in the distance! I bet I'll eventually go there!" Since there are so much random pointy buildings and towers all around you don't even get to go inside of, you can't tell where you've been before. >"Unseen village" is lower than regular Yharnam, anyone can see it from a balcony >assets are reused AGAIN to the point where they put dog (same enemy which we have seen in literally every Souls game) heads on crows and crow heads on dogs and call it a new enemy >story more obtuse than any other soul games, no real answers for main plot elements
>>323966370 >aggressive werewolves crash through windows to wreck your shit >you can stand on the other side of doors and safely attack them while they fail to fit through the door >it's a good way to farm chucks
>mfw I realized the majority of Souls players were only able to beat the games by finding things out from other players online These games are good, but fuck if the community isn't absolute dogshit, and fuck if half of it isn't all about just knowing where to look and what item to use at the right time. Save for Bloodborne, which is so much more straightforward and why it's the best game in the series yet.
>>323968061 You mean bloody crow? Of you want to finish Eileen's quest you need to kill him, drops a very useful rune. If you mean the ones in the nightmare, yeah you can run, but I for one don't like looking over my shoulder. If you mean the trio, just run outside to separate them and take them out one at a time.
>>323967738 Whenever you see someone say something is really easy they usually have tons of experience playing Souls in general and will probably not have difficulty with most of the game, period.
Go search Yharnam for blood shards to upgrade your weapon, you get enough for +2 and can grind to get to +3 if you really need that extra damage to compensate until you master the game's mechanics.
Also keep in mind that BB has a Monster Hunter esque limb damage system where you can damage most beast bosses limbs. Try hitting the Cleric Beast's arms with your heavier attacks, and hit its head when possible, good luck!
>>323969163 >>323969239 Alright, cool. I'm using the saw spear and the kirkhammer right now, and it seemed conceptually similar to the kirkhammer with the whole "straight sword becomes huge weapon" thing. I was planning on sticking with the threaded cane for some Castlevania goodness, but its damage isn't holding up with my other weapons and hitting walls all the time is getting annoying.
>>323969421 The Forbidden Forest was honestly a mistake, not enough enemy variety in that second half, fighting sneks non stop wasn't too interesting, especially when they die in one hit and can't really hit you.
>>323969668 What's wrong with it? So far it's been doing a ton of damage and staggers everything without being too slow. My only issue with it right now is that the sword mode is so weak I never use it over hammer mode.
>>323960480 If you've played other Souls series before, don't expect it to play like them.
Some concepts are the same, but the combat is much more fast paced. I love the dodge system. There is less space for error during invincibility with dodging, but the side steps are way more precise compared to the clumsy rolling from souls games.
It pays to know when to be aggressive too. Sometimes its worth it to get hit and push on to get that health back, and sometimes its better to dodge back and heal instead. Knowing the difference will save you a lot of headache.
Check every little corner in the game too, things are well hidden.
Paying attention to enemies will do a lot for you. At first they seem unpredictable but once you look for tell-tale signs of wind-up for attacks, you can kill most things without getting touched.
Also a note about insight: You get insight for discovering things like Kin, boss battles and some significant things. It's fairly easy to come by, but don't waste it on summoning people unless you really can't beat a boss solo. The more insight you have, the more things change in the game. Whether it's seeing items that weren't there before, or areas, new enemies, and old enemies that get new attacks.
And above all: stay on your toes at all times. Things pursue you in this game way more than souls games. Many times I thought running a few rooms away was safe to bring up the item menu, only to get backstabbed by an enemy I didn't even notice, that followed me all the way there.
>>323969859 The DLC bosses will give you trouble in NG+ if you don't have prior experience with them (especially the last one), definitely do the DLC in NG for your first time.
Chalice Dungeons do not scale with your NG status, they have a flat difficulty regardless of how many times you've beaten the game. Low-level chalices will always be easy, and endgame chalices will always be "lol my basic attack does 90% of your hp".
I tend to be pretty good at games overall, and never really had any difficulties in the souls series at all. Until the frozen wastes.
I had lost internet due to a snowstorm at the time and had to do the place solo, and I tackled it a little too early, and I also specialized in melee/faith build, which wasn't helping my case with this area. It's the only area in a souls game where I was actually stuck and died more than a handful of times. It's also the only time I put the game down and decided to come back to it later.
I got internet back later that night and decided to summon a generic NPC and an actual player. The player was absolutely one-shotting just about everything and pretty much rolled his way to the boss room. I had trouble with those fucking cats alone, but his damage was out of this world and he had almost killed the first cat before the second jumped down.
I thought to myself: No this is too cheap, I don't even feel good about this win. So I dropped connection and hard reset the game.
Went back and tried a few more times and was finally able to solo the whole area. The sense of accomplishment and relief was unrivaled from anything else I've played in games to date, and I've been playing games since the early 80s.
Summoning people to do the work for you is really the shittiest way to ruin things for yourself.
It's great though, it keeps up with other skill weapons in damage and has great range and can be used in Arcane builds too! It's nice to have for crowd control needs, and it has versatility in its moveset with the ability to do holy and serrated damage. pls no bully cane
>>323970537 I didn't mean "meme weapon" as a bad thing, Ludwig's is arguably the best weapon for super-high-level builds because of its EZ-mode quality scaling. I used the phrase "meme weapon" because it's a well-known weapon that a TON of people use to carry them through the game.
>>323970734 Similar deal for me. Bloodborne was my first souls game and I summoned on most bosses (except Amelia which I miraculously first tried). But my internet was out when I reached Shadows of Yharnam. It took me 20-something attempts to finally kill them (zero blood vials left) and it was the greatest feeling in the world because *I* did it. From then on I always beat a boss myself before summoning in subsequent playthroughs.
>>323971024 You have to keep in mind that most people who naturally encounter him are low-leveled and don't have a well-upgraded weapon. Also consider that they've never seen his enemy type or his moveset before. To them, he's a huge issue and they would have a hard time taking him on.
>>323969549 Of course, it's gotten to the point where it all doesn't fit in one post tho, so rather that posting all in two posts one after the other I choose the best points and only post the rest if peole call it a pasta.
>>323972495 Optimization is not a magic spell that you cast and everything just works suddenly, there are limits to what certain hardware can do. It's true that promotional videos look better than the final product, that's a common practice among publishers, including Sony. After some patches BB is running at stable 30 fps which is pretty good for a From game.
>>323972495 >Instead of optimising Anon, there's a limit to what you can do with shit hardware. Add to that the fact that Souls games have never had awesome graphics, just "good enough". BB is carried by its art direction.
>>323972746 >drink a lead elixir and/or equip the wooden shield >BoM fags instantly btfo
The BoM is a neat weapon, but it has so many hard counters and its repeated nerfs have only made it lag behind in comparison to other weapons. I much rather have a harder-hitting weapon with more reach, preferably one that I can buff.
I beat bloodborne today after playing it for 3 weeks. It was a good game. Nice level design. But I dunno if I'll play it again. The weapons feel too similar to me. I want more long range weapons. The spear is ass and it's more mid range than long range.
>>323973226 There was one time when the game slowed down to a crawl for me, a literal slide show. A lot of people have experienced that too, I think it's completely random. Scared the shit out of me though, I thought the ps4 was as good as dead.
As for the fps, It's been awhile since I launched the game and I've been under the impression that they have actually made it stable with the latest patches. Shame if this is not the case.
The randomness too. Literally NOTHING was happening, no fights, no fire, no sparkly shit. The game just became a powerpoint presentation.
I never played the pre-patched game though, so I don't know how worse the framerate was, nor the ridiculous 40-60 seconds loading times. I still can't believe it takes 5-20 seconds to load, can't imagine more.
>>323973463 The DLC has plenty of longer-reaching weapons (Magic tentacles, Pick, Beast-Cutter, Saw-on-a-stick, literal bow, GIANT BLOOD MACE). The Beast Cutter's R2 is particularly long-range, it has INSANE reach.
>>323974679 Just keep in mind that it feels a little unwieldy when you first get it. You need to learn to naturally incorporate the longer-reaching attacks into your close-range strategy. Don't let the long-reaching R2 become a crutch, because it alone simply won't get the job done.
>>323975369 Copies of weapons you own that have different gem slots (Lost and Uncanny weapons), Bosses not found in main story, best gems to grind for, also theyre required to platinum the game (Queen boss at the end of last depth premade dungeon).
All at the cost of doing aome pretty boring dungeons and some extremely irritating enemies at times (bell spider swarms).
Fuck Gilbert. Did nobody read the Clawmark rune? Does nobody else realize that you don't just find Flamesprayers? He was a fucking HUNTER.
A Hunter who signed a contract just like your character and he goes and bars himself indoors on the night of the hunt. He lies to himself and says that he won't be of any use in the hunt when in reality he's just a coward. He claims that he takes solace in being able to die human and yet you find him cursing the heavens. Then you find him as a Beast from which you pick up a Clawmark rune which implies he willingly turned as a means of saving his pathetic life.
>>323967565 >>enemies don't drop any kind of armor since enemy variety is minimal to the point where you see first level enemies all the way through to the last areas >>bosses don't drop any type of "boss soul" so most of the time you get no lore for them Those two are honestly just saying its not like the old games so I hate it. Nothing wrong with either.
>>323977113 >cursing the heavens He begs the gods to help him >Hunter So are the mobs you find in the first area, they don't have a contract, just random yharnamites brought into the hunt by tbe church >flamesprayer Claimed to never have used it Every was ill, be came to yharnam looking for a cure, same as you, it was just too late for him.
>>323977113 He locked himself up so he would not rape the town like gascoigne did. It didn't work but he tired. >>323977520 >So are the mobs you find in the first area, they don't have a contract, just random yharnamites brought into the hunt by tbe church They are not true hunters though they are like vigilantes who are not properly equipped
Gilbert is a foreigner just like your character. He has received blood, just like your character. He somehow has access to a hunter weapon from the Healing Church workshop while the native hunters are swinging around axes, torches, cleavers and pitchforks.
He's a Hunter just like the player character. The presence of Clawmark implies that he was willingly seduced by beasthood. He's a goddamn shit.
>>323965090 what about mgsv? assuming you skip the bullshit, like cutscenes and missions (which aren't bad on first play through anyway) it's a really fun game to fuck around in, seriously, put over 200 hours in free roam alone
>>323969548 that's really more a leveling thing than actual game design, by the time i got there i could barely do any damage and i was only ten levels from what i fought mergo at >grinded like a faggot for the last hunter tho
>>323978051 I dont know how you come to the conclusion that hes a shit when he is the first NPC that aids you on more than one occasion. The guy didnt even know you and theres nothing saying he did so as a plot against you.
>>323969809 ludwig's is fucking beast, you can set it up for only thrust's and it works perfect for the rest of the game, only thing is can't really use it on gerhman because you pretty much need visceral attacks if you don't want to just bet him at level cap
>>323978046 And? The men in wheelchairs have flamesprayers, bell faggots too. He claimed never to have used his flamesprayer, and the church doesn't do sick days, that is, if he is cooped up inside it must means he really is no use. >seduced by beasthood How?
>>Runesmith Caryll describes the "Beast" as a horrific and unwelcome instinct deep within the hearts of men, while "Clawmark" is an alluring invitation to accept this very nature.
We last see him begging the gods for help from his debilitating sickness. We take the Clawmark from him when he's dead. The Great Ones are sympathetic in spirit as we know from the Moon rune. He willingly became a beast.
>>323982794 The same way you beat every shitty big monster boss:
1. Never lock on, it sucks. 2. Dodge into and through its attacks. It swings from the direction it moves its head. 3. Always hit ths same leg. 4. Don't get greedy, one or two hits, then roll away like a coward.
Hot dog has his vomit attack which takes forever and lets you get a bunch of free hits. People are going to recommend breaking his face, but I'm guessing you're talking about Defiled hot dog where he'll one shot you if he breathes the wrong way, so I think the leg is safer.
