What does /v/ think of this game?

It's a good game. Should get a sequel though.

Boring, no one gives a fuck about anything in Star Wars beyond the Jedi/Sith

It gave me PTSD

I had only played the demo as a kid and I played the full game like last month or so.

It's very basic mechanic wise, clunky, and super short and boring. The squad leader idea is pretty cool and your mates are great but overall the game is just not that good. Plus it ends so fucking abruptly.
The red dude was literally the only cool thing about the whole game desu.

Republic Commando is one of the only good decisions George Lucas ever had. He loved the game and is responsible for the Clones having different armour designs.

For its time it was a reasonably good entry, most of the praise it receives comes from its own sort of cult following. The clunkiness probably comes mostly from the fact that it's a console game that didn't have aim assist, plus a few other smaller factors. It had a ton of potential, if we took all the refinements that modern shooters have made and applied them to a new entry while still being able to keep the core aspect intact (command a deadly team of super-soldiers with an emphasis on squad-based tactics) then it could easily be the best shooter we've seen in a long time. The problem is that EA has the license for Star Wars games for something like 10 years now, so we're probably never going to see the Imperial Commando that we want to see.

COD4 mechanics before COD4 existed. Cool squad stuff. Found it really difficult as a kid, not so much as an adult. Still enjoyed it though.

Its short and the ending sucks but still a cool game.

Too bad most Star Wars stuff couldn't be as good as this.

Don't like the bullet sponge enemies but 7/10 game overall. Star Wars games are always fun with the exception of Force Unleashed II

It was awesome back when I was 14 or whatever when it came out. Doesn't really hold up well though.

That part where you have to defend the ship hangar and then the bridge from a CIS attack is great.

Loved this game when it came out and have played it quite a few times since then, still holds up decently. Only major annoyance to me are the geonosians.
The multi was fun too.

what made you feel more like a clone trooper /v/ battlefront 2 or republic commando

Elite geonosians and super battle droid spam got annoying really quick. Ammo distribution didn't seem to be balanced well with those spammy encounters. Ending was total blue balls.

Had fun though; No sequel is total bullshit.

I really like it for the most part, but I'd agree with everyone saying the guns all feel weak and shitty. When your entire game is moving from combat arena to combat arena your shooting has to feel good.
Also I would say that most of the levels are too linear for you to really make use of advanced squad maneuvers. And even then if I set up one guy at a sniping position and the other two to defend him while I move ahead on my own, more often than not I'd be fine while all 3 of them would be dead.

There's literally nothing else worth talking about with it. It's a generic military shooter with a Star Wars skin.

I always find it strange that imperial ship shoot green laser and red for rebel

It was pretty mediocre to be honest. It had some nice ideas (like the screen wiper effect) and some atmospheric levels (that abandoned ship with the trandoshans and the hidden lightsaber), but it was also pretty short and linear, and the squad mechanics felt pretty gimmicky at times.

But it's one of these games, like SWBF2, that people have a ridiculous amount of nostalgia for for some reason.
