Would this game be better if it wasn't anime?
>saying this on a polynesian smoke-signal site
>the game for being a Persona 4 clone
Wtf is every game in a school a persona 4 clone now?
It's technically not an anime, it's a game.
Kondo plans were to appeal a wider audience nowadays as an entry point to the franchine expecting they will play the older entries. I can see this failing so hard, I can probably count with my hands "new fans" trying to play older games of any franchine just because they love the latest entries. Maybe japanese are different, I dont know.
>Ys is now pretty much a clash of clans clone as well with the basebuilding in the upcoming game
Sauce on this
It's the dilemma of either having everyone in their school uniforms or no one. I can't stand the idea of having two or three characters running around in their uniform while I dress up everyone else in casual clothes.
>You can develop your ‘Drifting VIllage’ base by gathering castaways. The residential area can be defended with castaways during ‘Counter-Attack Battles’, and there are a number of attack skills that will become available.
I was pretty shocked around the end of the game.
Why didn't I hear about this until now holy shit.
I bet he won't show up either.
Yeah it's less troublesome in the sequel since they already have unique looks so it's no longer a problem.
A-at least I'll have my bluehaired w-waifu, r-right?
>high school setting
>medieval weapons like swords or a bow and arrow
>those lanky lower leg
did she skip leg day?
And Crow ditches them
Yes and no.
Yes. For PS3 owners, it's finally a real JRPG adventure game.
No. The game and its sequel use a grading system. That system revolves around hidden quests and hidden objectives, so players need to follow a guide to play the game "correctly".
Falcom had been trying to appeal to wider audiences ever since 2013
You do realize the big joke about Ys, right?
It's a "retelling" of how he writes about it years afterwards, so he always gets the girl but then inextplicably ups and leaves while she's all wet & wanting.
The reality is that Adol is an ultradork who happened to be nearby when a ton of incidents went down and he died a virgin.
Both have crossplay, and have similar gameplay post-Japanese patch. So it's really up to you. As a PS3 collector, I sure hope XSEED is able to release a second physical PS3 edition.
>mfw playing on vita
knew I should have got it on ps3
I heard someone say something about how the story is better if you have your best link with Millium in both Sen games, is this true? Can any nipfags confirm or deny that there is a difference?
>The hero of Ys I & II is actually Goban
>After his sister is killed, he has Dogi smash a hole into the tower wall, wrecks shit, and eventually gets teleported to Ys and saves everyone & marries Lilia
>Yunica's superior genes save fucking everyone centuries after the fact
Seems about right.
Towa is just a cum dump for mercenaries.
Dogi fucking when holy shit.
Not my fault she enjoys it.
TOWA IS LOVE
TOWA IS LIFE
I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL END YOU
You can't stop her from being a good cock worshipper.
As long as it's not a huge focus I'm fine with it. Could be fun too
Now, if they put dating sin elements in Ys, that's a different story
SHE'S JUST TRYING TO BE HELPFUL. SHE WORKS SO HARD THAT SHE BECOMES ABSENT MINDED AND DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE'S DOING.
MY WAIFU IS NOT EVIL OR A SLUT
Estelle > Renne > Sara > Tio > literal garbage > Kukloe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Towa
Just bought this game and just now started playing it.
What am I in for?
Literal irrelevant character.
>Sara and Tio that high
Throw it into the trash
Towa is the brown haired student council president, also known as best girl.
There's a reason why she's the only non-party member in Cold Steel 1 to get bonding events.
You shut up.
To be fair, I think the school works to as a tool to get Class VII together and set the tone for this, but yeah, you really don't spend that much time in school in this game.
A fun game where one third is about you learning about the diverse Erebonian empire and all the people in it, and see how political tensions threaten to split it in half as people plot behind the scene. Another is about helping people around you by doing odd-jobs and killing monsters and exploring old ruins. The final is hanging out with your friends, playing cards with them, becoming closer with them as you learn about their past, and go on train rides with them.
Oh well, Fie is a cutie and ALREADY I'm liking this game.
It's not really giving me a thousand fucking things to read about how to play the game.
It's just, here's some movement controls, and then a battle just came up, and it's giving me options to do things and not holding my hand.
I like Fie because I saw her sleeping on the bench in the opening and I was like "yes I relate to this one very much so"
oh so it's like persona but with an interesting story and a pretty fantasy setting? Sweet! (not saying persona doesn't have a good story btw. I enjoyed the shit out of 3)
Thank you everyone!
Yeah, the game really doesn't bother with tutorials, they just explains things really fast and move you along.
>>oh so it's like persona but with an interesting story and a pretty fantasy setting?
The coolest thing about the game is the setting. Not just the deep lore, or the world building, but actually how NPC's feel alive since they have small character arcs that change as time passes.
Also the setting is not a standard medival fantasy setting, instead it's set in the awkward period right after an industrial revolution, so we find ourselves in a world where knights and people with swords and magic can fight alongside airships, tanks and guns, and it somehow works very well.
Fie behaves very much like a cat. She also joins the gardening club at one point.
I see /v/ praises this game and that one on steam a lot. I'm a sucker for JRPG's but i'm not sure on this one.
What's exactly good about them or what's the most similar game to them? I want to have an idea before i buy any of them.
>what's the most similar game to them?
Grandia is my favorite comparison because they're similar somewhat in combat (although Cold Steel's combat is much better) and have a similar feel throughout.
>What's exactly good about them
The strengths of Trails games is writing and dialogue, and they usually have pretty interesting and well-developed characters. For Cold Steel in particular, I really like the voice acting, combat, and the overall plot.
The real question is, will we get to kiss Towa's belly in Sen III?
The gameplay definitely feels like SMT and Persona and I'm LOVING IT AAAAA
The character models look nice too and the interface doesn't look trash either. Looks pretty nice.
And yeah the setting is pretty fuckin' cool so far.
>Fie behaves very much like a cat.
P U R E
By like halfway through Cold Steel 1 (the second motorcycle test) Angelica admits that Rean and Towa would make a cute couple, and then she barely, if ever, hits on her for the rest of the game.
She may be keeping up the act, but she knows she's lost.
Also if I remember correctly from the polls some anon posted in here yesterday, Towa was voted the most popular girl in Sen, so making her canon would be the wise decision.
What's good about them? Well, I wrote this post that describes the feeling >>323951505 of the game. The best thing about the game is the writting, it somehow manages to make the world feel very alive since it has some very solid world building, some great characters (including random NPCs who have small character arcs) and a plot that surprisingly is deeper than what you think for a game set in highschool.
The gameplay is pretty fun too, since it feels nuanced enough without making things too complex and you can customize your characters in a ton of ways.
Good, I hope more people soon learn that Fie is the cutest girl, and forget about that useless Towa.
LORD HAVE MERCY
Fie is a cute. A C U T E
play the PSP version on my Vita or PC version /v/?
Towa isn't better than anyone, she's a pointless character who never should have even been made. If Falcom ever makes her the canon love interest then I am never buying another falcom game again. PERIOD.
2018 is early estimate, most likely 2019/2020.
Fie is one of the characters that can reach a 100% dodge rate for all physical attacks in both games. In CSII, she can also counter attack from ANYWHERE. I'll let that sink in for a second.
This to be honest, familyman.
How sad, good thing there's way more Towa fans than Alisa fans to make up for your lost sales.
Dude, it's a dating game so Falcom would be stupid to make anyone a canon love interest, much less a side character like Towa, so calm down. If anything, the one closest to being the main love interest will be Alisa, who will probably be the protagonist for Cold Steel 3.
Oh so they incorporate her guns into her counter attacks? It kind of felt lame how her standard attacks only used the knife part of her weapon while Machias could always use a gun.
>it's a dating game
What the fuck?
No it isn't.
Fuck off with your shitty bait
Okay, fine, it's a game with a relationship values mechanic, which implies you get to choose which girl is the love interest, so I doubt they will force one to be the chosen one.
I guess you haven't gotten the straight line craft that inflicts faint/death yet.
Fie also happens to have the highest speed out of all the characters. Toss on some speed accessories, buff her speed, and watch her run circles around everyone else. She has some amazing delay crafts as well.
Do you think they'll have to call in the big guns?
If he's playing on anything but nightmare, Moebius won't have that much use for him. Also, Murakumo becomes much more useful in CSII, where you can finally get accessories and equipment that boost crit rate.
Crow is literally albino Jesus. You heard it here first.
It's impossible to get them all in your first run technically. In some free days there are like 4 or 5 characters that get note updates from hanging out with them and they only give you 3 or 4 points to waste. Don't worry.
>tfw you will never be able to romance any of the other school girls
Mint is cute.
The school time is like persona, the combat system is like Grandia, and the politics is like Suikoden. There, happy.
The best thing this game ever did was making so many cute girls all around the campus. I bet that everybody that plays the game will end up with a favorite NPC or two.
>The school time is like persona, the combat system is like Grandia, and the politics is like Suikoden.
None of these are true, particularly the Grandia comparison.
I honestly don't know what's worse, some idiot thinking the combat is like Grandia or thinking it's like SMT.
It's not that bad saying the combat system is similar to Grandia. You have positional combat, delaying/interrupting casting, customizable magic, etc. Of course, one has a real-time system where the other has a more static turn based one, but they're still fairly similar.
>one has a real-time system
Neither of them have real-time combat.
They are very similar. Cold Steel has things that Grandia doesn't, of course, but it's not that different at all.
This guy saying the comparison is moron is, well..a moron, to say the least
They're not similar at all. It's closer to Arc the Lad than fucking Grandia.
Absolutely nothing to do with the combat system, and is present in several JRPGs.
Should I make a gallery of whenever Gaius mentions muh wind or did some Anon do something similar already?
The basic concept behind Trails combat is very similar to that of Grandia combat. Trails combat is better, of course, but the comparison is apt.
I bet you're just an assblasted nostalgiafag who is upset that we're drawing comparisons to his favorite games. Fuck off kiddo.
You can try if you want, but that's going to be a lot of screenshots.
Grandia is built around canceling enemy attacks and combos. Those are the core concepts of Grandia's combat, and they aren't present in these games.
Even Neptunia is closer to these games than Grandia.
>HEY A STRONG ATTACK IS COMING YOU SHOULD CANCEL IT WITH A CRITICAL
>The game literally tells you if you should cancel with a crit or a special move every time your turn comes when an enemy is readying an attack
>It does this through the whole fucking game
I could understand a little hand holding in the first hour or so, but jesus fuck. I'm not that stupid, game.
It is fundamentally impossible to have Grandia style combos, and only crafts/arts can be cancelled as opposed to everything in Grandia.
It is a core part of the combat with several bosses throughout the series testing your knowledge/skill with the mechanic. The combat would literally be broken without it.
It's not nearly as important as you claim it is. I've beaten both Grandia I and II without giving a single fuck about trying to cancel anyone's attack. If it happens, it happens, but I never prioritized or thought about it.
More Crossbell shit
>All this meaningless dialogue
Oh my, I wonder what could have caused this.
What could she be talking about?
Then what are you waiting for? The games are already ou- oh wait, not in english
Someone please explain how I should start with this series, preferably on PSP/Vita? I have no idea what I'm doing.
mfw Osbourne is voiced by Jouji Nakata, seems kinda fitting. Shame he didn't say REJOICE
So I should avoid the original trilogy on PSP? I really prefer playing JRPGs in a portable manner but if the PC version added boats load of content then I'd be willing to play them instead.
I personally think so.
Though I don't know a western video game that really takes its time and shows off the characters doing lots of pointless stuff to flesh out their characters the fact that there are so many stereotypical anime tropes shamelessly used just feels annoying.
If the style of the game meets up with somewhat better writing that doesn't use the same old tropes then it would be great. As it is its enjoyable but there are obvious annoying shit in it.
It's the other way around regarding content, the psp versions are updated but look like total garbage. There's also the issue of censorship of The 3rd on the PSP.
If you're playing in english is best to play on the PC as well, the translation has been updated multiple times for consistency, something that isn't possible with the PSP versions
Hir face tatoo combined with his red eyes and white hair transformation was ugly but hell I wanted to fight him again with his sword and to be an actual challenge. Pretty much like when you got an archievement for defeating Arianhord in Ao no Kiseki even though the requirement was to lose. You even get an special dialogue where she praise your awesome strenght.
He mentioned Campanalla once or twice but I dont remember what he said. He did mention Lowe and Sara reacted, like Lowe was such a big deal when alive the everyone important knew him. Dubarry wanted to surpass him too.
Dialogue/Cutscenes - This game has awful, absolutely awful dialogues and cutscenes. Even though almost everything is voiced over the dialogue, (they have some parts that are pure text) it is as if the writers are 10 years old. Their humor is the most laughable thing ever and is the last thing from funny. I suppose if you're 8 you would actually laugh and find most of the humor funny, other than that it's laughably pathetic. This wasn't a con to me but this game has a LOT of talking in it, so if dialogue is a turn off for a game then avoid this game. The animations themselves in the cutscenes seem so forced and unsmooth it's awkward at times. It's like watching a poorly animated school project video made for art class at times; for example, seeing an airliner move frame by frame and seemingly float in the air, completely out of place. I understand this game is a port and somewhat old, but other games from this time had better animations than this.
Thats gaming journalist. In fact Kotaku started with Persona meet Suikoden comparison and picture related took them far enough to add two more.
Characters - You may think this is a weird con but let me explain. This is one of the worst aspects of the games, absolute worst. Before I make any statements on it, think back to when you were 13 years old and had 'great' ideas for video games that were RPGs and thought of these great characters, that's how these writers were. Take any Schwarzenegger film and you can apply the characters to his movies. Estelle is a complete dumbass, and is clear through the dialogue that she is as smart as a 6 year old or at least is severely mentally at the age of 16; however, she inherents the skill of using a stave like from her father. Estelle will irritate you beyond belief with her stupidity, the writers just try too hard to create comedic effect with this stupidity, mind you. Furthermore, she cannot pick up on innuendos, at all, like any other 6 year old kid. Remember that one kid in your class that you wish would just shut the up and if they didn't you would freak out? That's Estelle in a nutshell. Her character is shallow and easily predictable, like every other character in the game. Moving on to Joshua, he's not nearly as bad; however, he is just as predictable. He comes off as a secretive and depressed kid, or at least traumatized as a child (which he is). He is smart (in terms of this game at least, considering everybody has the logic and thought process of a 10 year old) and quick-witted and can decipher a crime scene with ease and pick up on trends or piece things together like any normal adult. He has his moments of depression that generally goes into a romantic cutscene with Estelle, with a kidish twist of silly humor and 'cheer me up' laughs and giggles. These 'Bracers' are 16, not 12 and going through puberty like middle school kids; however, that's how their romance progresses and is actually cringe-worthy if you think about this enough. Those are the two main characters that actually matter.
tl;dr: If you have the mindset and intelligence of a 12 year old with 8 year old humor then you will absolutely love this game. Let's put it this way, if you remember playing games like Dragon Quest as a kid, loved them, and then played this you would get a nice feeling of nostalgia followed by pure boredom and realization of how mediocre this game really is.
Well said brother.
I was kinda surprised with Zero/Ao setting, its by far the most advanced looking city in the whole franchine in fact Tio one of your member its a hacker and you use modern technology like in our world. The city Crossbell its similar to one of ours in some ways, its was based in NewYork and part of Hong Kong aparentely. There are some drug lords and the beggining of Zero too, while the main characters know about them they cannot do anything because they maintain the status quo.
A bit of all this. Fact is he joined the idea with the promise that rewriting the history will help Crossbell and cure his daughter along the way. He shared the dream of Dieter for independence of Crossbell too.
They were desesperate to show their powerful weapons. They could have won easily but utlimately Ouroboros ditch him, left Crossbell defenseless and divided. Easy for anyone to invade.
I think the true villains aside from society are Osborne and whatever dude its controlling Calvard. Rocksmith didnt look like douche to me but maybe he has ulterior motive to act friendly to Libern and Crossbell, word is that while making peace with everyone they take part of their economy and Osborne know that somehow their military streght of Calvard its getting bigger. Ultimately I think if their goverment its somehow evil Kilika might be an antagonist.
Not him, but how long are we talking here?
20-30 minutes with constant summons and waiting for enemy turns if you don't kill fast enough. This doesn't sound bad but there's another boss after which will take another 20-30 minutes.
I never used Machias before that fight so he was with his default setup.
Elliot is good for panic heals during C's fight. That and Claihm Solais spam to dwindle down everyone's health/get rid of C's bombs.
Rean, Angelica, Fie, and Alisa were all I needed. Rean and Fie could dodge C easily while Alisa was there to both heal and boost CP. I also gave her Moebius to mass revive when he used his S-Craft or whatever his X-Blade attack was.
You get three ultimate weapons per run if you collect the books you can craft one off the bat, the others are quest and story related. After beating the game once you can exchange U-materials for shards.
>Damn, that's just a perfect quartz for Laura, buff her up, then wait and look for a critical hit to s-break with her.
You don't even have to get a crit, just equip the Vermillion master quartz, buff her STR stat, then use her 200CP S-Craft to hit the damage limit.
This is the fastest I've seen anyone complete this fight. It usually takes about 2-3x the time done here.
Mariabell's is about half of that.
Speed Quartz is good since it gives a permanent 10% boost to evasion when maxed.
Max out Mobius since single target items now target a small area and this means you give everyone max CP from one Zeram Capsule.
Vermillion on Laura
Juggler on Machias
Moebius/Falco on Fie
Criminal on Emma, give her Fire Bell too for extra fast.
Force is good on Rean, you can give him Orochi or Tauros.
Megalith gets passed around between fights to refill CP.
>not knowing about the 1HP meme strat
I still don't get why she smiles here.
On your first run? Tio is a must. It also requires a perfect evasion tank, and you have to push Arianrhod into a corner so that she doesn't kill your casters with her normal crafts. She can move 8-9 spaces I think. Also, when her mask breaks, her stats skyrocket.
Use food items to bring a character to 1hp. Equip the master quartz that boosts damage by a factor dependant on how low your hp is. Wazy's S-craft does so much damage, the game can't display the fuckhuge number.
A boy falls in love with a boy.
Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with his sempai's arcus number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the boy, he only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the boy he called is not the same sempai he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. He is his sempai's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of his crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.
Speaking of silver hair, we need more Altina in 3. God damn.
Well, /v/? Why aren't you playing Mishy Panic RIGHT NOW?
Jaegar never looked dangerous to me in the trilogy even though some bracers told you they were a big deal outside Libern. Ao no Kiseki showed me why now, I had my expectation for Zephyr in CS2 but I got dissapointed and pretty much like McBurn when they got on serious mode the fight was interrupted. I wonder if there isnt another Zephyr general out there aside from those three in Cold Steel.
You seem to forget that you don't get much in the way of equipment or quartz early on. Spamming S-crafts early in boss fights leads to a large delay for your characters, leaving bosses free to total your ass with no resistance.
ESPECIALLY ON NIGHTMARE.
Probably fairly decently for a PS3/Vita game.
It's also one that is mostly known from spreading through word of mouth, so sales will be a slow trickle. The mainstream gaming sites aren't covering the game at all, like IGN or Gamespot, probably because it's PS3/Vita only and it's a longass JRPG (they do cover other Japanese games fairly often). Kotaku is probably the only mainstream site to advocate for this game (along with Trails in the Sky)
3rd confirmed when?
.btw that guy who worked on SC still has kevin as his avatar on twitter, not sure if he just really likes that character or what. He's been using ut since SC release iirc
Who watching this everyday?
You mean from Carpe Fulgur? As much as I'd like that to mean that SOMEONE is working on The Third, Carpe Fulgur is dead to XSEED after the whole SC fiasco, so I doubt that means much outside of him liking the character. I mean, who doesn't like Kevin?
I wonder how 'dandy' you'd need to be to get a classy lady like Sara?
To start off, Type-0 completes its story in one game while Cold Steel ends on a cliffhanger. If I had to summarize what the game is about, it would be about seeing the start of a civil war/revolution. A lot of it takes place in a military academy that's more reminiscent of a normal high school, but the game skips over most of the boring parts of it and focuses more on the "field studies" that take place each month. During these trips, they go to different towns across the country and learn about the current state of things, like about political factions rising up and what's going on around them.
It's interesting, but if you want to get the most out of the story, you'd want to start with the Trails in the Sky games considering they're the start of this series. A few important characters are introduced and developed in those games that also appear in Cold Steel, so it's highly recommended to play the Sky games before this one.
Not a single line including 可能性.
>Final move has a breaker at the end
>never gives up speeches
>gets determined by his aniki's never giving up
>get sent to prison by his friend
>breaks out of prison with guy he put in jail
The skirts are absurdly short in this game. I wonder how much time they spent in ensuring you can't see any pantyshots.
