DRAGON'S DOGMA PLAYERS I SEEK KNOWLEDGE

>If making a loli, does the size of your companion affect anything? Carry weight/health/attack power? Does character creation have an affect on gameplay?
>What is the armour variation like? Is there plenty of cool weapons and shit?
>To the piratefags: Does it run well?
>Are there different difficulties and do they add any differences other than adding HP or attack power to enemies?
>>
>>323933784
Yes it affects a lot of things.

Small characters actually fit in certain holes in dungeons and shit. While taller characters can climb higher ledges.
>>
>>323934058
>Holes and higher ledges

Oh, is this an actual feature? I thought it was just a funny side-affect.

>>323934137
Nope, there are some areas with holes that smaller characters can fit through, including a Goblin lair and broken walls.
>>
>>323934138
Sounds like the perfect game for pedophiles then.
>>
>>323933784
Yes, size and build effect base stats, carry weight, and have many other consequences (small characters may end up submerging their lantern in water when crossing rivers, they can be more easily picked up by harpies or eaten by larger monsters, and only small characters can enter troll nests)

Armor variation is quite good. Pawn fashion is serious business.

It's MT Framework, it runs fantastically. It does require a modern CPU, however, a phenom II probably isn't going to cut it.

There is a hard mode which simply increases damage done to you, decreases the damage you do, and doubles XP gains (kinda broken, you outlevel even the hard mode enemies rather quickly). There's also the Everfall and Bitterblack Isle which are endgame/postgame content filled with enemies you never see in the main game including exclusive bosses and a shit-ton of epic gear (in the proper sense of the word)

Gonna make a big nig pawn and name him Giguh. You anons will hire him to protect your tiny precious loli asses, right?
>>
>If making a loli, does the size of your companion affect anything? Carry weight/health/attack power? Does character creation have an affect on gameplay?
Yes, height affects taller character's walking speed and carry weight if I remember correctly. Smaller characters can fit into small caves/holes and regain stamina faster
>What is the armour variation like? Is there plenty of cool weapons and shit?
There's a shitton of cool armor, rip the berserk armor tho. There are different weapon types and all weapons within their type works the same. Their skills give your variation
>To the piratefags: Does it run well?
Watch totalbiscuits new vid
>Are there different difficulties and do they add any differences other than adding HP or attack power to enemies?
There's hardmode which is basically what you just described, and speedrunmode where the game gives you pretty much everything in order to finish the game asap
>>
>>323934324
That picture just shows the kind of details the game has. I wish I had the other picture/guide that shows how your pawn AI learns from you. Like you can train them to do very exact things, it's wild.
>>
>>323934441
As long as he doesn't have the guardian inclination, sure.
>>
>>323934474
>Watch totalbiscuits new vid
i'l have to pass on that
>>
>>323934324
Lolifaggots aside, the details in this shit are really great. Training pawns is satisfying as shit, and they can be very, very versatile and cool in fights as a result.

>Buffpawn gets on his knee and throws you into the air to save you scaling a big enemy
>Archerpawn targets weaker harpies above you to keep them off you while you fight ground foes
>Magepawn uses specific buffs against enemies that are weaker than you
>Gutspawn (RIP ARMOUR) will rush in and rip n tear while you stay back and target who you please

Shit's cool, anon.
>>
>>323933784
dragons dogma is based as fuck. the dlc is actually really challenging, you can play through multiple times. its a rewarding game, you just have to put a little time into stuff.
i usually play a giant warrior with a small little loli mage or assassin. theres a combo move that you can train your pawn where you launch them and they do a little jumping stab attack or reach higher ledges. lolis are based.
>>
So, it is better to create a loli or a amazon as MC? And what about the pawn? Loli or amazon?

Help me please.
>>
>>323934917
Loli pawns get sent back to their owners with a Hoe in their inventory.
>>
So I plan on making a bromance between my Pawn and myself, like 2 best buddies going on an adventure. I've read theres a point in the story though where your pawn and you have a borderline gay experience. Will this be awkward or was that just troll talk?
>>
>>323934973

>>
>>323933784
>If making a loli, does the size of your companion affect anything? Carry weight/health/attack power? Does character creation have an affect on gameplay?
I haven't studied it too closely, but weight does seem to have relevance. If in nothing else, then the weight of your pawns actually correctly affects your encumbrance, which I thought was a really neat detail.

>What is the armour variation like? Is there plenty of cool weapons and shit?
Armor variation is good, and a lot of layering stuff. As for weapons, there is a variety, but your current vocation determines which weapons you can use, which is kinda fucking stupid.

>To the piratefags: Does it run well?
Yeah. It's a decent enough port. I had absolutely no performance issues, though I have a high-level PC. The only issue I have, but it's annoying as fuck: I get MASSIVE screentearing, even with fucking V-sync on. Not sure what causes it.
U.I. can get a bit annoying with mouse and keyboard but it's not worse than your average multiplat release.

>Are there different difficulties and do they add any differences other than adding HP or attack power to enemies?
There are different difficulties, but I haven't explored their impact yet.

In general, the game is a massive mixed bag for me. So many really cool ideas, small details, touches, but also so many mindboggingly stupid decisions. The one-save thing has to be the biggest offender. Seriously: there is no FUCKING. JUSTIFICATION for that shit.
Also, the world is insanely generic and the progression is muddy, involves trial and error, and lower level magical vocations are boring as SHIT. And the combat is really only fun when you fight the large enemies - with smaller enemies it's an exercise in frustration and boredom.

On the other hand: the pawn system is kinda cool, the grabbing and climbing mechanics are cool, later-level spells are awesome, giant enemies are awesome, and there is so much of these small clever things sprinkled around.
>>
>>323934917
Whatever you want senpai. It's hard to go wrong here. I guess loli would be more difficult to have as a pawn though.
>>
>>323935347
those are my only two complaints, you will be chasing smaller enemies around. and a few of the bandits can be a pain in the ass at first. FUCK SINGLE SAVE SYSTEMS.
>>
>>323934572
As someone who casually had like 4 characters get to end game of DD:DA what do the inclinations mean for pawns? I always hear people talk about the Guardian one like it's worse. Does it effect pawn behavior that much?
>>
>>323935780
Yes, inclinations are basically what determines your pawn's AI behaviors outside of encounter knowledge.

Guardian is the worst because a guardian pawn will constantly stop what it's doing in-battle to stand uselessly next to you.
>>
Is there a way to mod the game to make multiple save slots?
>>
>>323935780
the inclinations are how they run their behavior. guardian is shit because it makes the ai focus on you way to much. you can find some great guides on the inclination system. http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Pawn_Inclination
heres one.

>>
>>323936260
Holy shit, are you pulling my leg?
>>
>>323935780
>Does it effect pawn behavior that much?
Oh yes. Inclinations can help you if you have an entirely different strategy than your pawn. For example if you play fighter and have a mage, don't give him scather, because he will start to get close to enemies like you do. Scather encourages this. But if you play a mage and don't want your fighter pawn to stay away from enemies like you do, really give him scather.

Guardian is good in concept but it just doesn't work like intended.

Please don't crucify me for asking this. I know it's in most threads. The Berserk armour was in the review build. When it was found that it could be achieved through cheat engine it was removed entirely. Surely there must be a mod to add them back in by now? Where do you even go for DD mods?

>to do detailed things
Best way is to research online which inclinations are best for your pawn and to make your pawn chug a bunch of potions that make them act that way. Then be the same class as them so they learn your strategies. That's for very detailed shit. They'll be fine with just the inclination potions and filling the bestiary. The potions are sold at the encampment for RC.
>>
>>323937349
>that's the one word to describe dragon's dogma
I would not say the game is clever, I'd say there are clever, or maybe more "cool and neat" details to it.
>>

>>
Guys, a few questions about pawns.

So with a mage pawn, what inclination should you give them? Utilitarian?

With mage pawns, what's the quickest way to train them? Just use mage for 20 levels and spam comestion?
>>
>>323934137
I'm abozt 15 hours in and so far it wasn't. The only small hole where I profited from being a loli had nothing if wirth in it.
And I can get on most ledges, there were like 2 I couldn't get on but I could circumvent that with levitate.

What's fucking atrocious, though, is the fact that you move like a freaking snail as a loli.
>>
Will I do less damage as a loli?
>>
>>323937761

yes, it affects certain things like weapon reach and i believe speed.
>What is the armour variation like? Is there plenty of cool weapons and shit?
Armour variation is p. good, weapons have good variety. Also magic is some of the best.
>To the piratefags: Does it run well?
runs great for me on my 970 + i5 4690
>Are there different difficulties and do they add any differences other than adding HP or attack power to enemies?
there are. hard mode makes enemies harder to kill but also makes them drop more stuff. it's also very replayable, a la monster hunter where you'll actually want to try out more classes.

It is single player but a lot of the fun is renting other peoples pawns, and having your pawn get rented out. By renting pawns out and yours getting rented while your not playing, you teach other players pawns knowledge of quests, and vice versa.

You may also see other players pawns walking around the world and you can interact with them. Theres a very cool subtle dark souls like online system.

For greatsword you're going to be doing a lot of light jump attacks in order for the quickest attack and to stun enemies to do a special attack. You may want to invest in a Strider augment that boost jump damage. Playing on hard is actually really good, More exp and more money. With warrior you're going to get a lot of HP so you'll be even better but the 3 things I recommend you always stock up on is Herbs, Mushrooms and Conqueror's Periapts (use 5 at a time since they stack and boost physical damage by 20%) Though Periapts can really break the game since you can literally one shot END game bosses if you're powerful enough (but you should be able to get to that point anyway, it's bound to happen)

Are there unique items?

Do enemies drop gear or just materials?

Is there hidden stuff in the game? Like dungeons or rare monsters?

Spells can lock on to enemies and so can Magick Bows. If you stand in one spot though with enemies around you and don't move and press the attack button you'll attack the closest thing.
>>
The game would only be better if you could also play with other people online and when you do your pawns disappear temporarily
>>
>>323939702
A little, although there's seriously no need for it. With how easily cancelable moves are with movement, you shouldn't have trouble.

Only magic oriented classes can use a degree of lock-on.

Yes, but you might have a hard time.

Yes.

Materials most of the time, gear really rarely.

>Is there hidden stuff in the game? Like dungeons or rare monsters?
The game will lead you to every dungeon and you will probably fight every monster through this. There are though some more hidden encounters at night.

I consider Pawns the best companion AI to ever grace videogames.

There's a bunch of variables going on and they make quick and often smart decisions. Normally in RPG's you're babysitting your companions. With the right Pawn, it can be the opposite. It's really incredible.
>>
>>323937850

PRO TIPS FOR MAGE PAWNS INCOMING:

>Utilitarian should always be your pawn's primary inclination. This will make your pawn utilize "advantageous strategies". This means they'll use their buffs and grapnel more often. Obviously, they're still going to heal if you're hurt, but having utilitarian makes them do things OTHER than healing. Nobody wants a pawn who sits on their ass when there's buffing to be done.

>As for a secondary inclination, Challenger is a good choice, especially if you've taught your pawn how to use Grapnel. Challenger will make them target the strongest enemies. Combine that with Utilitarian, and they will more often than not target the big enemies with Grapnel, slowing them down for a little while. This allows you to pick off any weaker enemies and then focus on the big guy. A great weapon to give Mages is the Rusted Staff. When upgraded, the Rusted Staff will cause your spells (Grapnel, in this case.) to inflict poison and torpor. Past earlygame, poison is shit, but torpor is very useful since its effects will continue to ail enemies even after your pawn stops using Grapnel. You don't have to worry about the staff's low power either, because Mages aren't really fit for attacking anyway.

Personally, I think teaching your pawn to just buff, heal, and use Grapnel is more important than teaching them how to use a spell. Comestion is nice, though. You'll want at least one attacking spell for your pawn.

Armor works like this.
Red classes use Heavy armor
Yellow uses light armor
Blue uses cloth armor

Warrior is plainly red and can only wear heavy armor

Mystic Knights are Red and Blue which means they can wear both Heavy armors and Cloth armors if I remember correctly.
>>

I still have no idea what this game is about.

It seriously lacks identification. It looks like an older korean MMO. Not that that's bad, but I know it's not korean, nor MMO.

I'm only buying it because I've heard you can make a femboy. That said, the clothing options will probably ruin it. But I can't imagine this (and choosing right party members) can have storyline impact, people are just playing make-believe with their dream characters, don't they?

>When I start the game, can I just run around and find dungeons and shit with gear in them?

You can but honestly there's no real point to exploring on your own. Any unique location is part of a quest, and they're usually way overleveled for you the first time you come across them, so if you don't wait until you find the quest you're going to be fighting a slog through an area you're going to have to revisit anyway. The game has got enough backtracking as it is.

>Are there unique items?

Depends what you mean. If you mean just items that only spawn once, yes, but they're pretty infrequent. Most shit you can buy in some shop given some requirement.

>Do enemies drop gear or just materials?

In my experience, only materials.

>Is there hidden stuff in the game? Like dungeons or rare monsters?

No, the game leads you to everything at some point or another.

>>323940381
>I still have no idea what this game is about.

How in depth do you want me to get? On the surface it's pretty basic, there's a red dragon and he's stolen your heart. He's challenged you to get your heart back under threat of destroying your country. Thing is the dragon always does this for a particular reason. But most Arisen don't make it to him anyway because they keep dying and if they do make it to him then they die to him. The last one to "kill" a dragon is Duke Edmun which is why he's a celebrated hero but there's more to that too. Which is why he keeps sending you on missions that have nothing to do with the dragon but seem to be meant solely to get you killed because he may or may not be afraid that you're just trying to take his throne.

Some of the most mobile classes my man.

Assassin
>Uses a skill that makes you speed up in everything including running and firing your bow and even BOW SKILLS this includes a skill that makes you shoot 5 arrows at once so you become a literal machine gun. Also a shortbow class so while aiming you can move around pretty fast and roll with daggers on at any point while aiming

Archer
>Slower but more damaging with a skill that can shoot 10 arrows at once but a requires a rest in between. Moves slowly while aimed and has daggers so you can roll.

Magick Archer
>Stringless Bow that shoots magic missles, Very versatile if you use certain skills like a homing ice missile attack that shoots out 9 ice missiles that throw small targets in the air and all center and fly into it. Has the mobility of a short bow

They all go much further and are pretty mobile. The fastest is Assassin with that speed up skill I mention and you'll feel really fast while using it. Magick Archer is pretty neat and awesome (you can set yourself on fire and climb giant niggers and burn them) And a Ranger's power is just awesome to behold and use. I like to use this one skill on it that shoots out eleven hours and a wedged pattern, If you get close enough to a target all arrows hit so it's like a shotgun and very very damaging. I've had fun with all bow classes.

No. Not at all. The only reason you would want to min/max is to one shot bosses for easy farms and to get achievements easier. You will be so powerful no matter what you do so you should do whatever you want. I've played so many times as mage and sorcerer and usually go to MA/MK around level 30 and still wreck shit really fast, and really hard.

A million anons will say to you that stats don't matter. Which is half the truth, they don't when it comes to attack damage IF you can the really good gear. They matter more when it comes to hp and stamina, because you can't boost them through gear.

Passive skills are very important, for me at least, and aiming for them is IMO a better idea. Though MK and MA have shit stat gain and playing the right classes for some time and getting those sweet passive skills make a better and more pleasant playthrough. How much you want to minmax, which means how OP you want to become at the end, is up to you.

Gran Soren is the most bland hub city i've ever seen in games of this type.
Game world is really bland as well. Maybe there's some good endgame locations, but midgame is boring as hell. It's a fetch quest fest, i don't think i've even seen a single interesting quest so far, when it isn't a fetch quest it's either "go clear that cave" or "lead the npc through half of a map trying to save him from being fucked by mobs".

Combat mechanics are by far the best this game has to offer, but i have a feeling that after trying each character archetype a bit it will become old very fast. Skill slot limitations are fucking annoying and taking a lot of fun from using a character. Pawn system is nice but i think that 3 actually good pawns will destroy an already piss easy difficulty.

Overall i really don't understand why there is so much hype around this game. There are neat little details indeed, but they get old very fast. Maybe if i've played it when it was released my opinion would be better but right now i don't want to touch yet another offline MMO, i'm really tired of them.

>>323933784

Height effects walking speed (not sprinting speed though, technically this is based on leg length not overall height), weapon range and the size of your hit box. It has minor effects too, like small characters walking through water might get more wet and have lanterns put out.

Weight effects a lot of things. Stamina regen (lighter = faster), stamina consumed (lighter = more), knockdown resistance (heavier = more) and carrying capacity (heavier = more).
Additionally, weight has other minor effects. Heavy characters can activate pressure plates, they can grapple and pin down enemies more effectively, they are less likely to be blown by wind, harpies cannot lift heavy characters as much either.

>>323944545
It's both.
The main draw of the sorcerer is that's it is a raw glass cannon vocation. You dish out damage that kills literally every standard enemy in a single hit, and even some large enemies, and can take down half the healthbar of some hard boss enemies. But you better be careful that you don't get hit, because you're going to fucking DIE.
The main downside is that it takes a while to cast each spell, but when you do cast it, it makes you feel like a god over men.

New game = Regular enemies
Post game = Unlocks after defeating Grigori in the main quest, spawning new enemies in overworld, unlocking expanded Everfall and the true ending
New game+ = Regular enemies again, everything is the same as you first played (enemies sadly don't scale or become harder) but you keep all your levels, items and other shit. Only thing that changes is that if you're playing in offline mode the true ending final boss is your own previous character, if you're playing in online mode the final boss is someone else's character. The fight is still easy as shit as you're obviously at higher level.. Even if you start NG+ in Hard mode it isn't much of a challenge with the exception of BBI area.

Only proper endgame is the expansion area Bitterblack Isle, which can be accessed almost from the beginning of the game, but the recommended level and gear before starting it is when you're at vanilla post game stuff or just started NG+. Bitterblack Isle is recommended for clearing twice, during your second run there's harder enemies and the expansion's final boss gets a new superhard second form.

Also regarding Hard Mode. Hard mode doubles enemy damage and your ability stamina costs, but also makes everything drop shittons of money (like regular wolves drop 10k gold bags) and you get double EXP. Wouldn't recommend it for beginners though since even regular goblins two shot you, nevermind actual boss monsters.

The biggest thing turning me off from making a Loli pawn was the lack of a voice option that sounded remotely childlike. The closest you can get is option 6 iirc but that sounds like a teenage woman more than a child.

Mage is more geared towards support abilities and isn't that fun to play. However Sorcerer class which is an advanced version of Mage gets all sorts of fun world ending spells with huge cast times (save for the unappreciated High Exequy spell which is fantastic for killing small mobs).

In total there's 3 basic classes, 3 advanced classes and 3 hybrid classes. In the beginning you start with only one basic class, but once you get to the main city you can change between them at the inn.
>>
>>323947183
If you want magic, go Sorcerer unless you REALLY like healing. Sorc gets all the spells Mage gets minus the healing and some support ones, but gets really powerful over the top damage spells in exchange. Sorc gets better magic growth to boot.

>Are they like ''passive skills'' that you can learn with classes and then use it with another class?
Yes.
>If so, how do you unlock them?
Your character separately levels their vocation apart from normal EXP. F.ex. if you're playing Fighter, you get regular EXP that increases your regular character level and points that increase your vocation level. With Discipline points that you get just from beating enemies you can buy new vocation-specific augments assuming your vocation level is high enough.

After you've unlocked an augment you can use it with any class.

The Dante pawn was on xbox and ps3, and is probably the most well known /ddg/ pawn because he was scary good. His owner, effin, was one of the people trying to figure out pawn mechanics. Effin rarely visits the threads anymore, but can still be found every now and again. If they pop up, ask them tips on training pawns.

Mystic Knight uses both magic and physical attacks. If you want to be a minmax faggot pick assassin or sorcerer to level to 200 as then switch to mystic knight for the highest attack strength/magic strength respectively.

If you don't care about minmaxing, then do whatever you want.

I think there's a chart of stat growth for each class somewhere but I can't be fucked to find it.

Sorc is okay, but remember that a lot of your time is spent on ground instead of other, more mobile classes that can climb enemies and deal damage that way. The spell cast times are fuckhuge with exception of High Exequy. Also, one fun thing sorcerers get is so called multi-casting, meaning that if a sorc starts casting a huge spell, a friendly sorc pawn can join (if they also have the same spell) and instantly jump to same cast timer as the first caster, meaning you can unleash the same fuckhuge spell along with your pawns.

Assassin is the best boss / weakspot killer class and for climbing enemies. Ranger is more about pummeling enemies from ground, but it's a lot more mobile than sorcerer. Warrior, for some strange fucking reason can only equip 3 abilities (compared to every other class that equip 6 abilities). It's okay if you like being a slow heavy hitter in the middle of everything, but it isn't really good for climbing enemies.

>>323948579
Mage's final augment is +10% magic damage.
Sorcerer also gets a +20% magic damage augment and they stack. If you plan on playing a magic heavy character leveling both vocations to max is really useful.
>buff support skills
Mystic Knight has its own share of better buff support skills, that enchant the entire party's weapons. No healing spells though.
>>

I kinda wanted a sequel to go full Dragon Heart and have us and the Dragon fight for a common goal. Maybe even have the dragon die at the end while we're powerless to stop it for extra feels.
>>
>>323949274
You pick to start as fighter, mage, or strider.
Fighter starts with highest health and physical defense
Mage starts with lowest health and physical defense, but highest magic attack and defense
Strider starts with middling health, highest physical attack, but next to no magic attack and defense

It honestly does not matter which one you pick, but if you want to play it safe go for fighter. If you're an utter noob it'll make getting to 10 and Gran Soren easier. Especially on hard mode.

Dragons Dogma is a game where defense is more important than offense unless you've memorized boss movements and shit.

I think it's a quest reward that may have also been a DLC thing too? I know you can get it from the black cat and I thought the same things you did. I think it evens out around level 30 maybe, seems to be a bit better than the stuff I have access to as a level 25.
