XY was okay, but it wasn't exactly impressive either. It was okay for a game with graphics Game Freak wasn't exactly used to handling, specially given how terrible Game Freak is handling programming and trying to figure out the 3DS's architecture.

ORAS, however, was pretty damn unforgivable. They didn't only alienate the XY users from recent Mega Evolutions, they barely improved SHIT from the previous entries, if at all.

One thing I disliked about XY is how after the 3rd gym it felt like you just rushed through the game. You'd go through a route, reach a town, beat. a gym and continue, with some Flare intermissions. Before that, the pacing felt a lot nicer. There were bigger gaps between the gyms and each route had more Pokemon to encounter. It made the journey feel bigger and grander, but after the 3rd gym it just went by too fast.

The GB sounds made me the most mad. HG/SS had it and I came close to crying hearing those songs again.

Though a lot of the points are casualization, which is a pokemon game so no surprise there.
Sapphire was my favorite game and ORAS disappointed me on every front. Gen 6 is by far the worst gen.

Pokemon hasn't gotten worse, it just hasn't evolved much. The games themselves have always been very basic, the main reason people play them is for the multiplayer aspects. And they're no denying that the multiplayer features in gen 6 are the best yet. The singleplayer is worse, although there are plenty of better games out there if you want a single-player experience.

I don't though. And not really. It was certainly a lot more immersive and more of my life revolved around it. But gen 1 is probably my second least favorite, only falling behind 4 because Platinum and HGSS exist. DP were atrocious. Gen 5 is my favorite by far and I was well into adulthood by the time they came out.

Nobody ever actually used the game corner to get anything, either. Everyone just fucking bought the fucking coins themselves. At best it was just a tedious distraction.

Also Berry Blending and Pokeblock making was pointlessly frustrating. You'd have to amass the collection of the right amount of berries HOPE you can get enough friends to do it with you because the in game helpers suck and then you blow it all on Pokeblocks that are subpar anyway because what is hand eye coordination and HOPE they're good enough to get you a Feebas.

Fucking GOD. I don't understand why the Pokemon fandom has such nostalgia for fucking terrible systems JUST BECAUSE they existed in previous games. They were BAD. They were tedious. They WERE NOT FUN.

I think X/Y are fantastic, some of the best in the series. ORAS was lazy though. It was minimal effort. It was good because RSE were good, but they did very little to improve ORAS from the originals while FRLG and HGSS pushed themselves much harder.
