I played this game on release and really enjoyed it but never got to kill the final boss ship.
>suddenly urge to play this
>shitwhat.jpg C class ships
>go B class mantis ship, get hacking and make an unpunishable sick boarding party
>make it to sector 8 anhilating stuff
>phase 3 Rebel flagship has zoltan shields
>I literally can't do a single thing (because I got greedy and had no weapons, sold them for shield/engine upgrades.)
Most fun I've had with this game, why is it so good?
More games need this type of tactical almost RTS tier gameplay without actually being an RTS, you can pause or just let things play out, or do both.
Did you just run from every zoltan ship before the end or something?
One of my favorite strategies is just save up every missile I can throughout the run. Then, just unload them all on the flagship. In one run I had saved up over 100 missiles for the fight. It went down easily.
>In one run I had saved up over 100 missiles for the fight
Fucking how? I barely use missiles and even then I never had >40.
Though I know what you mean, though while missiles a shit, bombs are
Breach bombs will fuck a ship up harder than any missile will.
Also bombs charge faster than 80% of missiles.
>buying every missile at shops
Jesus Christ where does all your scrap come from? Boarding gives more, yes, but not enough to waste scrap buying missiles.
How the fuck off do you find enough missile weapons by the end? I've tried to do a few runs in the Rock ships aiming for mostly missile boats but always end up having mostly lasers / ion / beam by the end because that's what's out there.
Also: how good is flak? I've heard Adv > 1 > 2
>Most fun I've had with this game, why is it so good?
A lot of in depth strategies that are all viable to some degree and micro management.
No thanks, I've had my fill. Unlocked all the ships and their styles, beat the boss on all difficulties and I don't want to talk about the game anymore since there isn't a topic that hasn't been touched on.
Good luck with your thread though Op.
Yeah, you're on the money.
Actually till now I though Adv = Flak 1 that costs less power.
Never thought it charges faster.
But only Lanius B has Adv, so yeah.
I hate how the faggot devs label the difficulties.
Before the massive update, "normal" should have been labeled "nearly impossible".
Only way to play FTL and actually have an enjoyable time is to play on easy, where the game doesn't constantly fuck you over nonstop.
Challenge is one thing, but being unfair as well as being at the mercy of HEAVY rng bullshit, almost ruined FTL for me.
I beat the boss a few times on Easy. I never even attempted normal past the first time.
I'm not a masochist. Losing several hundred times until I get luck with rng rolls and whatnot to maybe get past mid game is not worth the effort for anyone that is sane.
Is the updated version still just as masochistic?
>I've tried to do a few runs in the Rock ships aiming for mostly missile boats but always end up having mostly lasers / ion /
In my experience, it's always better to have multiple weapons that can hit more times, than a single hard hitting weapon. Missles are kinda shit anyway, since the strongest missle weapons, are out shined by gatling lazers.
>Also: how good is flak? I've heard Adv > 1 > 2
Best weapon in the game, since it charges fast and each shot has multiple projectiles in it, like a shot gun shell. Just go with what you get since there is no strategy to get the better weapon consistently.
fucked me hard the other night, only recently purchased the game
Why not just try for yourself?
>I don't roll with the punches and reach the boss 95% of the time, so the game is shit
You are right about not being able to beat the boss if you don't get key upgrades, but the journey is the adventure, you casual.
>tfw close to a hundred hours in and never had a Vulcan
>Fully charged Vulcan
How did you fuck it up so hard?
Why didn't you upgrade O2 and Cockpit?
The advanced edition? Adds a bunch of weapons like guns that fire faster over time, or can charge up shots. Adds a few new systems (hacking, mind control, clone bay). Adds a new species that de-oxygenates rooms, and a bunch of new sectors and encounters. Adds hard mode. Probably some more stuff.
>Playing as lanius
>Going for the <20% oxygen achievement
>Enemy with hacking
They hack doors
>More games need this type of tactical almost RTS tier gameplay without actually being an RTS
Piece of cake.
Leave it to me.
>Is the updated version still just as masochistic?
it's a little easier. Flak is basically OP. A lot of the new features are pretty niche though. Also boarding is a little tougher.
They last long enough to suffocate anyone who isn't Lanius/Crystal if you have no oxygen, of course the duration depends on what level of hacking they have.
Though maybe with lvl2 O2, oxygen could recharge fast enough to save them. Might try that out sometime. Honestly I don't know why the thought of disabling oxygen never crossed my mind, maybe because the hack is so sudden that I fuck up.
they're kind of fun for repelling boarders
I use them to harass them while they're suffocating, so they can't cut their way into the next room until that one's in hard vacuum too
Lanius make good boarding crew and you can put them on areas you don't want to get on fire.
Usually by the time I find a lanius I have all posts covered so I just leave them either as roaming or in the O2/Medbay/Doors
Shove it in the back of the ship to man some system that isnt essential and drain oxygen from all surrounding areas. Doesnt matter if theres holes/fire in there because its out of oxygen already
They are also great for defending vs intruders since you can drain oxygen from a room and the intruders will die much faster than your Lanius
>tfw pic related
I put them in charge of the rooms near the edges of ships where no one is going to be walking through and getting damaged.
It's actually helpful to have them in charge of shields or weapons because they can fix breaches without suffocating and fires go out quickly without air.
Anybody got those Starsector webms? I'm looking for em
Both are good but ultimately id say pre-igniter takes the cake if you have enough spare scrap
10% is not that much, especially since the fully charged firing speed is already fast as fuck
Also pre-igniter is almost always better with every other weapon and fucks up every minor ship before they can even retaliate
>buy game at launch
>play 150+ hours
>never beaten the flagship, closest I got was phase 3 on easy
>tell room mate about it, he buys it
>beats the flagship on his 12th run
Never had I been more butt mad in my life than at that moment.
How often do you pause? Do you time your weapons shots efficiently and juggle energy between systems to keep them all running at maximum power when they need to?
It takes a lot of cheesing but you should get to flagship phase 2/3 in almost every game on easy, unless you get solar flare vs a rock ship with level 1/2 shields tier rng assfucked
>Go to more red sectors, as those give more scrap.
>Board/Eliminate crew if possible.
>Know which weapons are good
>Use that spacebar
>Run from fights if it isn't worth it
>Level your crew on asteroid fields/sure wins
It isn't that hard. Though sure RNG can fuck you over.
I can only see one way of multiplayer working
>Both can pick whichever ship
>All crew automatically max level
>Both have a budget of scrap
>They use that budget to buy shit from shops to gear up
Then they fight, pausing is disabled
This should encourage exploring builds, but I bet after a while people would just go with what's known to work.
>after the primary ship is destroyed, you as a rebel commander will have to retreat and develop your alliance with various races (free travel instead of a race to the finish) and then either defeat the alliance (or whatever it is called) or ally yourself with it by the help of your alliances with the other races
I've played FTL too much
Do you remember that... get crystal with rock ship achivement? Took me like 2 straight days to get that one, fuck rng....
If anyone wanna know how to win, play like this
BOARDING ALL THE TIME FOR CASH
Then use cash to buy op weapon, like high tier ion or just very good for energy laser dps, and win. that is it
Remember to upgrade engine for evasion
>Rebel has to work with pirates
>Doing dirty jobs such as bombing fuel station or ambush cargo ships
>Small fleet building
>Can order autoscout to ram into hostile ship
>Space magic radiation causes mutation on crew
I have a problem. I have beat it on normal with all the ships though. Fuck Slug C, took me forever
Ive gotten a mod that removes the rebel ships approach until the final zone so I can essentially turn it into a space-faring RPG game until the final boss
Its fun as fuck but I lose fuel quickly, hopefully I'll be able to unlock some of those RNG ships
Mantis is a bitch to unlock
I'm a scrubadub that leaves weapons on auto until the ship blows up. I do target things and think things through by pausing, but other than that I don't micromanage that much.
>I'm a scrubadub that leaves weapons on auto until the ship blows up
That only really works when you have weapons with the same reload time.
Would be neat if the game had an auto salvo option, which would wait until all the guns are charged and then fire them. Although that still wouldn't account for projectile speed.
The Vulcan is GOAT-tier especially in terms of fun, but the spool up time means you'll need to think long and hard when you come across it because in the wrong build you'll get killed before it even takes down all of an enemies bubbles.
Pic related is already fully spooled up.
>half of everything unlocked
>some update, I think it added cloud sharing
>game acts as if I've never touched it
>everything is wiped
>can't find the old save file, not sure where it would be
>can't work out if I can restore it or not
>no desire to play ever
The battery is kinda hit and miss.
Sometimes you want to use that one system for a short while without taking power from other stuff.
Though IMHO if you can get a pair of Zoltan they are better than it
