What happened, /v/?
Can't really think of a magazine that focused on many platforms and remained good, Hyper is the only one I can think of.
I will have to check those out
I just remember the content of these things being interesting enough without too much of an agenda, I only come to /v/ for opinions on games now and you have to have been here for a long time to know the shitposting and the actual good game threads. Anything that comes up like Arcanum or Bomberman or other classics like that will have good threads because people tend to agree games like that are good, otherwise it's shitty
Is it that simple though?
Anon I'm talking about the past, not todays standards :^)
I miss the days when Hyper was good, back before faggots like Wilks, Staines and Yahtzee drove it into the ground. That said, Kevin Cheung was always a pretentious tool. I wonder where he is now?
>What happened, /v/?
Video games became mainstream. The internet became more accessible. Consequently women started to pick up gaming, whereas in the past it was viewed as something only lonely, nerdy guys did. Games in the early days were undeniably geared towards men. Somewhere along the line though (around 2007) with the proliferation of the internet and retarded memes like "teh cake is a lie!!!111! XD" and "The game, you just lost LOLZ!!" video games gained mainstream popularity. You started seeing video game shit being posted on myspace and eventually Fecesbook more often. Girls got curious with all these maymays and didn't want to feel left out. Add to this the "geeky nerd boy" fad of recent, where girls think gamers/nerds are Chad Thundercocks who wear thick rimmed glasses, skinny jeans, Chuck Taylors and Bazinga T-shirts. How else would they get to interact these "nerds" but to pretend to feign an interest in this hobby? You can draw a lot of parallels to hip hop and video games, where both "hobbies," so to speak were seen as "boys' clubs" and girls didn't want to feel left out.
>tfw had Dreamcast magazine subscription
>free demo discs every month
>found out about plenty of awesome games, some of which were some of the most enjoyable games I've ever played in my life such as Powerstone, JetSet Radio, Skies of Arcadia
>will never again be able to look forward to playing game demos to find GOAT games
>your mum will never come home with the latest issue of your favourite vidya magazine ever again
>your favourite magazine ended suddenly without warning
>you threw away all the issues you had collected
>now you're paying out the ass for them on eBay and they don't even have the posters
I remember reading an Urotsukidoji review in an issue once. Great magazine though, I love it when each indivdual section has it's own design to it instead of a set layout.
I wish video game ads were stupid and crass still.
Guys what was that gaming mag that had the drawings section with the dog reviewing peoples drawings they would send in? Shit was funny as hell when I was 10. I have a feeling it was a UK mag.
>>Free demos with reasonable games with purchase
That was back when it wasn't viable to just send people demos through the internet. Shit was at 56k back then.
>>Interesting articles and reviews
Replaced by internet websites. Shit's free too on the internet. Fuck paying for magazines.
>>Covers like this where no one gave a fuck
And no gamers give a fuck nowadays either. Just sjw and gaming jounralists making a big stink because they're liars pretending to be the majority.
Came across an old issue of CVG online, and it talked about how Darkstalkers "played an important role in Capcom's portfolio", and acknowledged how many of the mechanics implemented in their post-SF2 fighting games originated from it.
Now no one even wants to even remember it existed, let alone give it a new installment.
there was no sex to be had in that game
Waiting every month to buy the new GamePro issue is one of the happiest memories of my shitty childhood.
Damn, are you me?
Not like good demos don't exist anymore though. Go check the nip PSN
>why do we have these problems?
>why do we have these problems?
This site has become the parody of itself that Tumblr wanted.
Not really. What happened was people who weren't the intended demographic barged their way into Video Games and demanded they be appeased and represented, even though they still don't care about playing games.
It just happened to be that these people were a tiny, extremely vocal minority of anti-sex feminists and not representative of most women. Then they gained the support of retards.
I get you though, especially since you didn't know what games you were going to play.
It's usually up to the publisher if they release demos or not now. Nintendo consoles seem to have more demos than others.
>why do we have these problems?
The real answer is vocal white knights hoping to score with some 3/10 whore. Vocal feminists wouldn't have the power or would be much of a problem if it wasn't for their armies of beta numales.
ha, you assholes had to come to the GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA just to get your info because your shitass country couldn't have their own expos
also, posting best magazine with no reigns on content and best reviews
>tfw old enough to have read these magazines when they first came out
The industry was so much better back then. If I had to say when things went downhill, it was probably 2007 when all the twitter and facebook bullshit began to take off. Now every idiot has soapbox.
OPM was fucking based. I still have dozens of demo discs stored up. Introduced me to a ton of great games.
it was better anon because we didn't have a constant stream of info that the internet provided.
remember anons? when we had to wait a whole MONTH to get E3 info and it was only pictures? we had to speculate how the game might be from pictures alone, but it didn't make us not want Mario 64 any less.
i remeber i had an issue of egm(not sure if it was emg now) that had kasumi on her white alt outfit on the cover
i masturbated to that cover so much that you couldnt even open the damn magazine
fucking hell op you gave me a nostalgia fap
tfw you thought sonic 06 was gonna be good because you read this
gamepro was cool when they had reviewer persona, then they said no one can do that anymore and it kinda ruined the fun.
yeah, its like getting christmas presents everyday and knowing WHAT your getting. it ruined the mystic of finding out about a game and then hearing nothing only to find it was delayed and then trashed a few years later.
or like Earthbound Zero and waiting about 20+ years for something that was ALREADY finished back in the day
Said perfectly, the only thing you forgot is the tumble hugbox effect and the beta nerd boy sjw. Basically with the internet crazy people have a thought like men sitting a certain way is oppressing me. Now that's crazy and pre internet that person would share that idea in their community and they would get beat up or professional help. Now take that same idea and go to tumblr, the sjw see's 100k reblogs. Now in a world of 7 billion, that's nothing, but to them they think the world is on there side. It doesn't help that 3rd wave feminist are ran by con artist trying to make a quick buck
>You can draw a lot of parallels to hip hop and video games, where both "hobbies," so to speak were seen as "boys' clubs" and girls didn't want to feel left out
So maybe someone can enlighten me but I don't get this mentallity at all.
there is this trend of "adjusting stuff" to women everywhere from workplaces to certain hobbies and it's suddenly a major problem when women aren't interested in something.
>it's suddenly a problem that most E-sports participants are male.
>it's suddenly a problem that most MTG players are male
>it's suddenly a problem that certain games are pandering to male audiences
why the fuck is it a problem? these communities formed over long time periods and happend to be mostly male.
Now they have to be torn appart for people who aren't actually interested in the medium but for whatever reason HAVE to be interested in it?
Basically, why do people think the fact that men are interested in some things that women aren't is a problem?
The internet happened. Nobody buys print shit anymore and it was already cost ineffective to focus an entire mag on one console. If it were just females than Nintendo would have never ended their magazine.
>Tumbler and SJW killed magazines before they Tumbler and social media even took off
That some true power right there.
limp dicked and cucked faggots raised by single mothers liberal genderfluid PC good-doers became the majority
Remember to upload scans to https://archive.org/details/gamemagazines once you're done
I've passed manga uploads on youtube before, never actually watched them
buttmad LGBT SJW Reddit/Tumblr PC Femfrequency libshitards detected.
How does it feel to be the product of successful kike brainwashing and reprogramming of the western society?
Here's what happened. Nerds are anti social or had a bad experience with a women so that act retarded or just rude. In the 15 years plus of being a nerd I have meet too many men and women that are assholes or spazs. So it did not help that the nerd community is toxic in general. The feminist came in and saw that nerd men were exploitable and nerd women were spazs.
>people stream manga on youtube
And here I though I'd have seen it all.
no, nintendo realized it was futile to keep making print mags at the end of the month when all the info was old at that point.
the only thing they could have was interviews that would never be posted online.
>tfw your grandad gives at least a decade worth of PC Format and PC Gamer to a charity shop over an argument with your gran
I remember reading Nintendo Power as a id and looking for whatever article/reviews were written by Alan. Then I remember the issue where he said he was leaving NP. I dunno why, but it made me sad.
i had a Gamepro sub from 11 to 13 years old. i put all of them up on my wall eventually, then threw them all out because they took up like 3 boxes and weighed too much.
i really wanted to be a game journalist growing up, but everytime i read editorials, the editors seemed like the job was more hassle than it was fun.
"you might think working at a place where everyone plays video games would be too good to be true, but blah blah ITS FUCKING HELLLLL!!!!"
>Gaben smacks a whip to someone's throat
that's how they read to me.
maybe they just had personas they played, some were even down-right pessimistic in their game reviews. pretty funny imo.
Ah, the glory days of reading EGM and Gamepro on the bus ride home... how I miss thee...
Shame I didn't get a Saturn until 1998, though. Still kicking myself for never getting that free Christmas NiGHTS disc that some mags were giving out.
There was no YouTube, so you couldn't just show heavily scriped fake trailers that you record on a system with 16 titan blacks and pay the press to make your 6.3 an 8.8.
You actually had to put effort into your games. Be patient for the revenue to come in. Give developers more freedom. Team being smaller in general was a very good thing.
Jap men, being the beta they are, started listening to the SJWs.
Still wish that someone becomes crazy enough to pop feminist and SJWs like how they pop niggas and muslims. Like, its so unfair for the black and muslim minorities to be the only ones getting popped at at times when SJW/crybullies/feminist have ruined just as much of society and hasn't been pooped at yet.
at least you got a saturn when it was dying and games were cheap
i feel bad for any poor bastard who wants to get saturn games now, shit is expensive for the really good stuff and RPG's
This is false shit though, as they don't censor their own games at all and Japs aren't the only ones to doit. Any games that are heavily sexualized get the treatment of blackballing and social media attacks for being sexist/etc and generally cave in.
Honestly gaming in general just got hit by a cocktail of bullshit between SJWs, bullshots, CGI trailers (even for their 'gameplay' parts),
SJW's looking to make a money set their eyes on nerds, because they are weak and easy to manipulate for pussy, that they never even get. On top of that the mentally defective beta's are now going trans to get attention and hope for a better life. The whole thing is fucked up, hopefully this like the hippie movement will pass. Then feminist will be sucking dick for a living and trans will blow their brains out because they butcher their penis for easy life they will never get.
This is all the SJW's fault.
The only US saturn games I've ever owned are Nights, Christmas Nights, and Burning Rangers (only because I figured the navigation system being in a language I couldn't understand would be a major issue if I imported the JP version.)
BR is not that great but at least I sold it for almost double what I paid I guess.
The only thing I can add here is that that's not really what happened to hip hop in the case of it being women at fault, it was actually more along the lines of pussyboys at fault there. Women were in the hip hop scene since way before, but they were in generally tough women who could hang, not sissy bitches who wanted shit dumbed down. Lil Kim wasn't that bad compared to Nicki for example, she didn't instigate the same level of bullshit thus dumb down the game, and oh boy the only one who can sexualize her is her!
Saturn and Dreamcast magazine were great. This issue was like my Bible, I would flip through all the time, I couldn't believe how good all the Dreamcast games looked. Sonic Adventure looked amazing, it's even harder to believe we live in a time where it now looks shit.
I got that issue with Christmas NiGHTS, I couldn't believe I got a whole game for free (granted its just edited levels from the base game). Still it was kinda fun being able to play as Sonic in NiGHTS.
>huge collection of gaming, comic, and TCG magazines got thrown out when I went to college
>subscribe to gameinformer to try and chase the dragon
>feel huge sense of loss every now and again when looking at my bookshelf
The pain never leaves anons.
Still got a stack of PS1 and PS2 magazines from between 1995-2005.
Shit OP, now I wanna spend the day reading this stuff
>it's suddenly a problem that most MTG players are male
This really happend ? God pls no, they allready ruined one hobby for me, please don't let them take another one
Dumbing the game down to their level. It's not REALLY about equality and inclusion, it was never about that. The entire point is to invade male-dominated spaces and co-opt, or, if the resistance is too high, destroy and ruin it so they can't enjoy it either. You're seeing it in all facets of nerd/geek culture, this is not about equality, it's a war on your culture with the aim of soiling it for people who enjoy it.
Oh but they can.
Recently feminists threw a tantrum because the 30 winners of the Bande Dessinée international festival were all men. The jury evicted 6 of them to replace them by women at the last minute.
The sad part : some of the male nominees said they didn't want to participate if their were only men at the ceremony.
To be fair though Urotsukidoji is a fucking classic among anime from the time period. Gorgeously animated, engrossing plot (the story kind you giggling kindergartener). Perfection.
I hope your french is good
What the fucking fuck no way
I refuse to believe this happened.
>doesnt count because you are male, win is granted instead to female runner up
>literally won because she has a vagina
Fuck this planet and everyone on it.
For Cold Steels case, XSEED has no programmers for stuff so for a demo they would have to ask Falcom and that would pull then away from what there currently developing (Ys 8 and CS III).
It's still a case of people winning solely because they are female, even worse being given someone else's nomination that they earned to appease the shrieking harpies whining.
this is all i found in the last 2 years
everything else was trash sports games that don't count
Still regret buying that on the original PS, Aerosmith is a shit band and their game is even worse.
Demos are still around, they just sell them to you for $60 and patch in all the additional content later with DLC. Matter of fact, DLC used to be cheat codes. All of the little faggots who couldn't play video games or get into them? They're the problem. More importantly, 9/11 happened.
Interesting. Can you elaborate more in your statements?. Particulary:
>All of the little faggots who couldn't play video games or get into them? They're the problem. More importantly, 9/11 happened.
Pretty sure he's referring to casuals. Also, people who feel like they're under attack all the time. Basically sjws and people who support anti-terrorism bs.
9/11 was a great time had by all.
Okay. 9/11? Everyone was affected by it, everyone and everything. Movies, video games, you name it. Due to increased tensions, safety regulations happened and everyone is now worried for their kids, coddling them and making a safe space for them. Playgrounds are now made of plastic foam, you can get suspended for fighting off a bully, and at some point, the whole girls can't do what boys can escalated outside of the schoolyard. More importantly, said subject went straight to politics and social media.
And the internet. The internet was the alternative to going outside and playing. Said people I mentioned above? The lived through the growth and development of the internet as is.
It's not just Americans, mate. Remember Europe's number one piece of feedback for the FF XV demo was "Cidney's too sexy"? It's North America and Western Europe both who fucked up.
>Harold raised his hand and struck his wife hard across the face, spilling his scotch on the carpet.
>People were actually happy during the 90's
most of the people on this board were, because they were carefree children with no adult responsibilities or sexual frustrations constantly looming over their heads. adults weren't happy in the 90s. like seriously have you listened to the music created by adults in the 90s, fuck man.
>like seriously have you listened to the music created by adults in the 90s, fuck man.
I mostly remember How Bizarre, some song by Savage Garden, and a couple Smash Mouth songs.
That's like tail-end late 90s pop. My memory of 90s music throughout the decade was mostly melancholy grunge, gritty industrial, and downright depressing alt-rock on topics like abortion, lost love and other tragedies.
>moving away from nerd boys club with zillion clones of successful shit to a respectable entertainment media where anyone can pick up a controller and get an amazing expierience.
I miss tongue in cheek reviews/roast reviews for shitty games
Man, I never got to experience these due to my parents. Closest I got was renting outdated copies of Nintendo Power from the local library.
The explosion of the internet benefitted us as much as it spoiled us.
my spiderman 2099 first issue got eaten by rats
Zone was my favourite PC mag, I miss it
God damn! I havent seen this pictures in so long. I'm 27 now. Knowing how much I used these pictures to jack off with makes me wanna jerk it again. This was all a nigga had back in the day.
>Interesting articles and reviews
Oh fuck no. Everything was just as paid off, badly researched and a horrible mix of facts and opinions back then. It just seems nice nowadays because of the different views on things, such as fanservice not being frowned upon.
By grow up, I meant games tried to change. New things were being tried. Look at the first person game, a genre that had up until then been about shooting everything that moves in segmented levels, or dungeon crawling in RPGs. Thief turned it on its head. The darkness was safety, you wanted to try to avoid confrontations. Half-Life created a continuous world. Deus Ex combined shooting with stealth and RPG mechanics. Even the stories games told were evolving. In America, censorship's death grip was loosening. And then gaming got really popular and most of the advancements as a medium were lost, and now we're back to shooting everything in small levels, stories being told through cutscenes instead of the game world, like the notes in Thief or the data logs in System Shock, with feminism ruining everything.
That's exactly why anon. These type of cunts crave attention and validation for their "progressive" slacktivism.
Actually learning the game and gitting good is too ableist, so they whine and nag till everything is easy enough for them to post on facebook on how they're a strong independent womyn who needs no man to win at children's card games.
The worst part is that actual girls that just want to play get fucked as they're lumped with the attention whores.
Did you really just blame feminism for the drop in qaulity of video games? you should be blaming Activision and EA for the AAA model that created the idea that if your game wasn't as generic and rushed as possible you wouldn't see a return profit, as well as the graphic whoring which made devs put more effort into textures than the actual game play.
Seriously Feminism did nothing wrong to gaming and if you somehow think that devs being more sensitive to the fact that not everyone with a controller having dick is "censorship" and somehow created every problem ever you're a fucking idiot.
>Did you really just blame feminism for the drop in qaulity of video games?
No. Pay attention. I said that the rise in popularity is part of the reason, most of the reason in fact. Feminism is just the latest disease. I'm talking about the nutjob feminists, the ones that complain about literally everything being sexist. Actual feminism, you know, the type that simply seeks *actual* equality, it's fine.
It wasn't the rise of popularity that ruined the quality, I mean look at marvel. What ruined video game quality is shit devs who believe textures>gameplay or hacks who would rather be making a movie like our friends who made the order 1886.
The problem isn't that it became mainstream the problem is content creators stopped giving a fuck.
What makes you think you have a right to define what "Actual" feminism is? what is your definition of "Actual" equality.
I miss PC Zone. We need those magnificent bastards more than ever.
They took absolutely no shit, and once attacked EA HQ with a rocket-firing car
>What happened, /v/?
White knights happened.
Bow down to you vaginal overlords, over-privileged fuck.
>It wasn't the rise of popularity that ruined the quality
Games got more popular, publishers got greedier than ever, so they mandate that games try to appeal to the widest possible audience, which happens to mean the removal of complexity in general. It's certainly part of the reason.
>What makes you think you have a right to define what "Actual" feminism is?
Looking into the origin of the movement, mostly. It didn't originate as something to be used to complain about everything, it was a movement to gain rights for women and bring them on to the same playing field as men. Modern "feminists" have perverted everything it ever was.
>what is your definition of "Actual" equality.
Men and women having equal rights and opportunities, nothing more and nothing less.
Feminism doesn't have anything to do with equality if you are implying that.
>publishers got greedier than ever
>this is the fault of people who commitied the crime of playing video games en masse, not the greedy publishers and lazy devs who make the games.
Do you hear yourself? Let me tell you buddy the increase in players wasen't the first instance of publishers being lazy. Remember how almost every console game up until late PS2, was a platformer? Lazy publishers isn't something new. You're acting like every dev was creating masterpieces like system shock and then gaming got big and they just stopped.
>Looking into the origin of the movement, mostly. It didn't originate as something to be used to complain about everything, it was a movement to gain rights for women and bring them on to the same playing field as men. Modern "feminists" have perverted everything it ever was.
You know you can literally apply this argument too early feminism?
>feminists just complain about wanting to vote
>feminists just complain about wanting fair pay and job opportunities
You use broad statements like "complain about everything" because if you went into detail you'd realize feminists have a point.
>Men and women having equal rights and opportunities, nothing more and nothing less.
And how does the third wave deviate from this?
Please point out to me where I said that laziness was not involved. I said a big part/most of the reason. Why do people have a problem understanding the word "most" and its kin? Have people always been this illiterate, or is this a young people thing? There have always been lazy publishers/developers, there's no denying that. I just don't think it caused what led us to this mess.
>You know you can literally apply this argument too early feminism?
Come on, man. Complaining because you don't have the ability to influence the city/state/country leadership and complaining because a girl in a video game is too sexy is not even near the same thing.
> You use broad statements like "complain about everything" because if you went into detail you'd realize feminists have a point.
I use broad statements because I'm in a hurry. I already told you that real feminism is fine, it's just the "This girl is showing too much skin! That's sexist!" that's bullshit.
>And how does the third wave deviate from this?
Well there are the two typed I've already mentioned. One deviates greatly, I've already explained how. The other does not.
>What makes you think you have a right to define what "Actual" feminism is? what is your definition of "Actual" equality.
Not that anon but Feminism as defined by Merriam-Webster is:
: the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities
: organized activity in support of women's rights and interests
While for equality:
: the quality or state of being equal : the quality or state of having the same rights, social status, etc.
I'm curious to know your definitions of feminism and equality.
This, but adding to it is the fact that with an expanding demographic comes a fuck ton of money for jew companies, and with media being everything nowadays, if you're found not conforming to a certain viewpoint in the media, you're labeled an 'enemy', and in the case of big gaming companies, conforming to some kind of 'we're listening to the """""minority"""""!!!!!' stance will bring in the big bucks, and push away the people who were already there.
No what happened is you got a bunch of nimrods growing up attached to politically correct equality bullshit and instead of making good use of the lessons they learned they all went full retard, started making up genders for themselves, looked for ways to make themselves feel better outside of them just bettering themselves and started taking HRT.
Thats where we are now.
>I don't think it was lazy devs and publishers putting out low quality work that caused the epidemic of low quality work.
I didn't say you said " laziness was not involved" I said you're partly blaming other people for what is 100% the devs fault.
>I just don't think it caused what led us to this mess.
It's exactly what caused it! It's not a "most" issue. The mass of new gamers didn't enter studios and say "Be like call of duty" it was the publishers saying "we want the call of duty audience" that led to it. Do you blame the audience when a movie is bad? Do you blame the customers when food is bad? So why shift blame for bad games on gamers?
>Come on, man. Complaining because you don't have the ability to influence the city/state/country leadership and complaining because a girl in a video game is too sexy is not even near the same thing.
an issue being a smaller Magnitude to another issue doesn't make it less of an issue. that's why your argument is useless, you can use it to downplay ANY issue. ">women complaining about making equal pay being the same as women having a voice in the government."
>"This girl is showing too much skin! That's sexist!"
And you missed the point. The problem is that women are literally portrayed by the media as novelty for men. It's a degrading media practice. Getting rid of it is natural progression. Did you get mad when Disney stopped adding racist stereotypes to their movies?
>Well there are the two typed I've already mentioned. One deviates greatly, I've already explained how. The other does not.
>if you aren't requesting equality at a point that I set then your points are invalid an you're not an "actual feminist".
That's not how progress works.
The ones you posted fit my definition perfectly
I'm game. I don't remember much of the 90s due to being born on the tail end. was journalism more or less corrupt?
>Actual feminism, you know, the type that simply seeks *actual* equality, it's fine.
If *actual* equality even existed it would be fine. But it doesn't, so it isn't. Don't get me wrong though, I think it's majestic though that all these things are being tried. Their complete, unmitigated, unmitigat/able/ failure will prove what a flight of fancy the post-"enlightment" has been.
To force equality is to fight the tide, like a lament we breathe oxygen and to put on an argon mask because it seems more civilised. Holding the night apart from the dawn only means the left will be crushed in between the weight of the implacable natural forces they smugly think themselves above (while also smugly thinking themselves naturalist eco-types, but I digress).
Obviously we'll have to sweep in at some point and clean the mess up, but I want the mess to be so large even the left itself must acknowledge it in a puddle of their own failure. Billions can atomise overnight and millions more can have their "natural rights" (tiptopkek) taken with a penstroke in todays world so the migrant crisis and radical feminism doesn't particularly bother me.
I remember when I was grocery shopping with my family and saw pic related and lost my shit.
Also, isn't there an archive for these magazines somewhere?
Video games have always been mainstream aside from the few years the console market crashed in America. Fuck there was even a major theatrical movie in the late 80s that was just one big Nintendo product placement.
>100% the devs fault.
>Being this ignorant
Devs casualize their games because publishers force them to. And guess why they do it? To appeal to casuals. Good thing you contradicted your statement 3 lines down
>So why shift blame for bad games on gamers?
Because they buy the bad games, and the publishers see that casualizing games is a good choice from an economical standpoint. You're too stupid for this board, and that's quite the achievement. Congrats I guess
Also please explain how sexy women videogames is an issue
>I don't remember much of the 90s due to being born on the tail end
3/10 bait too obvious
Feminism ended a long time ago. Feminists wanted to be less discrimated in important matters like voting.
What we have today is third wave feminism, which is just whores screaming for female advantages under the guise of equality.
I blame shitty school systems and bad parenting.
There is no equality.
Innate traits make some things better at some things than others and while they may not fulfill that potential it still exists.
All equality movements are based on a flawed premise making all of their conclusions equally wrong. Modern, secular, evangelicals.
Aside from the fact you seem like you "literally cannot even right now" what is there to not get?
>not enjoying let's reads with ebin reactions
Imagine getting an It audiobook and the narrator suddenly starts going WHOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAA DUDE NO FUCKING WAY! during the child gang bang.
It was all retarded garbage designed to sell you shit with low poly titties.
I'd like to pretend everything I dislike about the world is just someone trying to mess with me but that's not how it works. Sorry anon but you just gotta learn to take the bad with the good and find a reason to keep on living.
>It was all retarded garbage designed to sell you shit with low poly titties.
How things have changed in our more civilized era.
>Do you blame the audience when a movie is bad? Do you blame the customers when food is bad? So why shift blame for bad games on gamers?
I'm not blaming the players, I'm blaming the situation. A bunch of new people getting into video games is not inherently a bad thing, but it caused countless undesirable things.
> The problem is that women are literally portrayed by the media as novelty for men. It's a degrading media practice. Getting rid of it is natural progression
You must be a woman. Hell, not even many women I actually know have a problem with that, they realize it's just fantasy so people are going to look unrealistic and will flash their bodies. I mean even a lot of men in video games are perfect, chiselled, sexy men who can take on anything. Sure, most times that's actually for men, it's a type of wish fulfilment, but believe it or not, there's a lot of women out there who like playing as sexy, stacked, unrealistically proportioned females in games too. I don't like games with a lot of fanservice aimed at women. Know what I do? I don't play them. "But there's significantly more fanservice for men in games!" you shout. Yes, I know, and women wishing it was downplayed is not an issue, even I wish it were downplayed a bit. Look at Japanese media, fanservice has infected it like a cancer. It's fine and even enjoyable, but not in everything. Some women are trying to stamp it out entirely though; that I can't agree with.
>Comment too long
>if you aren't requesting equality at a point that I set then your points are invalid an you're not an "actual feminist".
What the fuck are you even saying? I'm using an actual definition of feminism from feminists, from historical sources. It exists because women wanted equality. This is not opinion, this is fact. I don't know why you're attempting to spin this as me setting and moving my own goalposts. Perhaps you should do a little reading on the subject from historical books/sites, not Women's Weekly or wherever you're getting your information.
>Devs casualize their games because publishers force them to. And guess why they do it? To appeal to casuals.
>it's partly the audience's fault that the publishers don't actually understand the audience and demand a mediocre product
>it's partly the audience's fault for a decision made entirely by the publishers and devs.
>it's partly movie goer's faults if a movie is bad
>Because they buy the bad games
Yes, and? Are they supposed to have tastes uniform with yours? They buy what they like. critically panned movies are often successful, does that mean it's the audiences fault that the director chooses not to make quality work? Seriously?
>Because they buy the bad games, and the publishers see that casualizing games is a good choice from an economical standpoint.
Once again, a choice made entirely by the publishers.
>people never asked for casualized thief (hell casuals probably didn't even know what thief is)
>Publisher makes casualized thief of their ownj volition because they are greedy and don't understand their audience.
>hurr casualized thief was the fault of people who didn't even know what thief was.
What are you going to do? Tell everyone to git gud so other people can stop making bad decisions? neat.
>You're too stupid for this board, and that's quite the achievement
Oooo ad hominem, guess that means I can stop taking you serious.
>Also please explain how sexy women videogames is an issue
You know if you type the word "sexual objectification" into google you'd get an answer leagues upon leagues better than someone "too stupid for the board" could explain it :/
You see this kind of ignorance is why no one takes MRAs seriously as opposed to feminists.
What caused those problems are bad decisions from the board. If you were to take up these issues with the people causing them instead of saying "this is happening because casuals" you could get things done. Just look at DmC:DMC.
>People defending modern feminism on /v/
And censorship. I managed to only come here infrequently after 2011. Why did I start visiting more often again? Think it might be time to leave once more.
I find that I only visit when I'm in between jobs. Otherwise, I value my free time a lot more. Maybe it's for the best. I even play vidya from time to time. That's always fun.
>Hell, not even many women I actually know have a problem with that, they realize it's just fantasy so people are going to look unrealistic and will flash their bodies.
Their were women who accepted that women should be in the kitchen instead of voting too. complacency doesn't invalidate the problem. and also it's not just that they look good. I mean come on anon do you really think all women are that superficial. The problem is that when it comes to fanservice here's the difference
>Tough, chiseled, strong man with numerous noble traits that make him a rightful leader and hero.
This is your average male power fantasy. The sexy male in question has numerous other traits that compliment his body.
here's your average women
>she's mad fucking hot bro, like damn dawg the things I'd do to those tits, also she threw a rock or something.
This is why it's called objectification. There's literally nothing to the characters but their appeal to men. It's insulting women.
Look at it like this, no one complained about xenoblade despite it's raunchy character design because Sharla, Fiora, and Melia ACTUALLY DID STUFF! If more devs could treat women as more than sex objects to grab a males attention and if gamer's wouldn't turn into pikemen every time a women asks for fair representation their wouldn't BE a third wave feminism in gaming.
>director chooses not to make quality work? Seriously?
Did you not read my post at all? Do you think the majority of devs say "Hey, wanna make a shitty game? Yeah sure why not"? It's not a matter of taste, some games are objectively bad and the masses buy it anyway, paving the way for more bad games.
>Once again, a choice made entirely by the publishers.
The publishers' goal is to make money. Casual gamers give them money in exchange for bad games. It's not a choice as it is their job.
>Ooo ad hominem
If you can't handle the banter perhaps you should consider other sites.
>lol use google
Thanks for proving my point
Pretty much this. Add in the fact that you don't have to pay anything for printing and distribution of magazines, along with websites eventually generating cash with traffic and that brought the end to print magazine.
>"Hey, wanna make a shitty game? Yeah sure why not"?
Turn that into
>"Hey, wanna make a shitty game? Will it sell? yes, yeah sure"
Then yeah that's pretty much how it goes. Yielding results doesn't take blame off the people who choose to make a shit game. Look at undertale, Good games are 100% possible if devs gave a shit about more than making coin. It's all their fault. They could give the casuals good games since they'd by them anyway and keep the core pleased, but they choose not too.
>implying I can't handle the bantz
nope, the bantz generally means the other person doesn't have enough stock in their argument to refrain from lashing out. I know I'm right so I don't have to convince myself that you're an idiot to feel better. You're not an idiot, you're someone who's wrong.
>Thanks for proving my point
Something told me you'd weasel out of confronting actual facts. I'm not going to explain it for you because if I did you'd just tell yourself it's all false because I'm telling you it and as we've established, you've already convinced yourself that I'm too dumb for this board.
jesus christ this was okay once. All things considered pretty glad I was too young to remember the late 90s.
Not gonna lie, I suck at xenoblade and formed sharla dependency. Gotta have my heals man.
Truth be told,
so did I
Sure Rikki is meant to be a better healer, but I found him more annoying than fucking up a chain attack because Sharla chose that time to use Cool-Off.
What they were thinking when they made that her talent art I'll never know
>Their were women who accepted that women should be in the kitchen instead of voting too.
More like some reasonable women exist in the world. If we're going to repress people and eliminate the sexy woman, then the sexy man's got to go too.
>This is your average male power fantasy.
And many women don't fantasize about being sex goddesses? Gimmie a break.
>This is why it's called objectification. There's literally nothing to the characters but their appeal to men. It's insulting women.
Then I guess those men are insulting to me because I can never be them. Or they would be if I was as insane as most modern feminists. Fortunately, I'm not bothered by fiction like so many people in the world are.
>Look at it like this, no one complained about xenoblade despite it's raunchy character design because Sharla, Fiora, and Melia ACTUALLY DID STUFF!
Or because it was a niche game that got a limited release in the country that houses the bulk of feminists. And Sharla was the only of the three who was really fanservicy. Fiora too I guess, since she has those armor sets, but most of the times she looks like an unsexy robot. And I can barely remember Sharla doing much of anything.
From what I heard demo reportedly hurt game sales, nobody reads print magazines anymore, SJWs won because you fuckers harassed them instead of ignoring it. This is literally and for all intents and purposes your fucker's fault.
>Then yeah that's pretty much how it goes
You literally can't grasp the difference between dev and publisher.
>Now I've got my feelings hurt so I won't argue
Never thought I'd see this on 4chan of all places. First day here I assume?
>SJWs won because you fuckers harassed them instead of ignoring it
The "ignore it and it'll go away" tactic isn't really the best. Ignoring a problem can let it spread and get worse. Better to cut it down while it's small and still manageable. Though there's such a thing as fanning the flames, so... I'm not sure what the best course of action would have been.
Dreamcast version of Dead or Alive 2 is legit.
>SJWs:Wahh you're keeping breasts and objectifying women!
>Car magazines: Go away
>Swimsuit magazines: Go away
>Anime/Manga: Go away
>Porn: Go away
>Art: Go away
>Video games: I"LL FUCKING RAPE AND KILL YOU BITCH, I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE AND WHERE YOUR CHILDREN LIVE I WONDER HOW IT'D FEEL TO SLIDE MY COCK IN YOUR EYE HOLE LOLOLOLOL
>Video games: Hey, why's everyone taking her side?
"We like tits, go away." would have sufficed, it worked for the porn industry, it worked for playboy, it worked for maxim, it worked for every other guy's hobby and it could have worked for video games.
>tfw you still have all of your old gaming mags boxed up and saved for later generations or for a nostalgia fix
NP, GP, T&T, EGM, PSM, Wizards, and IQ all in good condition or better. At least 7 boxes in my closet alone. I wish I never got rid of my LEGO magazines though.
Maybe I'm just confused as fuck because that's not what I got from it. She started rambling about dicks and plugs and really liking Love Live but not really.
I don't even know what I got from it, actually.
pretty much, she's friends with them I think so they had this no talent do a 2 page interview to shill her next scam game
>More like some reasonable women exist in the world. If we're going to repress people and eliminate the sexy woman, then the sexy man's got to go too.
"also it's not just that they look good. I mean come on anon do you really think all women are that superficial"
:/ It's not just about the looks.
>And many women don't fantasize about being sex goddesses? Gimmie a break.
NO. seriously do you honestly think women sit around and go "gosh I want to be a hot accessory for chad". Women want to be attractive not because they want to be a man's toy but because society tells them that being attractive=power (this isn't true from my experience because ugly girls hit very, very hard.). If it's just attractiveness with no power then it's just garbage. Take for example Gone Girl. The protagonist of that movie was mad hot, but she isn't sexy so the audience can look at her. She's insane and calculating and uses her attractiveness to her complete advantage. That's a female power fantasy. a female with power.
>Then I guess those men are insulting to me because I can never be them. Or they would be if I was as insane as most modern feminists. Fortunately, I'm not bothered by fiction like so many people in the world are.
This is missing the point.
>Or because it was a niche game that got a limited release in the country that houses the bulk of feminists.
>comes from a series that has a rep in smash
>won and was nominated numerous awards upon it's release
>sold well enough on it's re-release
>has a sequel that was localized solely because of it's success
>HURR IT'S NICHE AND FEMINISTS DON'T KNOW IT EXISTS BECAUSE THAT WOULD COUNTER MY ARGUEMENT
Both are to blame so I used them interchangeably. But the names kinda speak for themselves, devs develop and publishers publish. Don't know where you were going with that :/. Only three sentences, both are desperate attempts at dismissals and you're suggesting I'm the one afraid to argue? kek.
Holy shit people read those? Modeling isn't objectification.
Modeling isn't objectification (debatable, but most agree it's not.).
Obama said it best, we can't police the world.
Seriously? sex work isn't objectification.
A trans person jacking off her inflated nutsack is considered art these days, no one takes it seriously
Sexual objectification outside of fiction is too debatable to make any headway because there's just as many women saying it's empowering (me included) as their are women saying it's degrading. Needless to say you are 100% right. The reaction to feminism in gaming was so insanely repulsive that everyone jumped on the feminist band wagon.
If there was a decent videogame magazine for sale that didn't have any gimmick pack-ins (demo CDs, codes, etc.), would you actually buy it? Or just read it at the racks/pirate the pdf?
>NO. etc etc damn comment restrictions
I don't see how women desiring to be attractive equates to "a hot accessory for Chad". Your arguments are making less and less sense every time.
>This is missing the point.
I know what point you're trying to make. Sexy men is a male fantasy so it's okay. Sexy women is a male fantasy so it's no okay. Despite the fact that there are women who'd love to look like sexy, fictional women, and men who are offended by buff mother fuckers running around without a shirt. It's a strange and highly illogical point, but I see it nontheless.
You're using Smash Bros as a metric now? Fucking really? You do realize that not everyone researches every game that every character is from, don't you? For example, I've played Smah Bros but know fuck all about Fire Emblem and whatever game the Ice Climbers are from. Xenoblade was re-released on 3DS because it was somewhat popular in Japan I think, and because handhelds are popular in Japan. Of course that version was brought to English speaking countries because the localization work was already done and they may as well make a couple more bucks. Or are you talking about a new shipment of games in America? I know nothing about that, last I checked prices for the game were still sky high. Maybe they've restocked it so Gamestop can jack up prices again like they did a year or two ago when they just happened to find a bunch of copies lying around. In any case, a re-stocking of a game doesn't mean it's mega popular. Look at Dragon Quest. They get restocked sometimes in America, but are far from popular here.
>has a sequel that was localized solely because of it's success
Must mean it's mad popular. I mean, every game that gets a localized sequel is always in the news. We all saw Persona 5 on CNN, right? And surely every casual gamer knows of the world famous Disgaea series. I mean, look at all the localized sequels, it can't be a niche series, can it?
>I don't see how women desiring to be attractive equates to "a hot accessory for Chad". Your arguments are making less and less sense every time.
I think it's because you really don't want to understand considering I explained to you why women want to be hot, gave an example of a female power fantasy, and in the post before that one explained why the average female vidya character doesn't stack up. Do I have to sing it for you for you to get it? :/
You see, literally opposite of the point.
>sexy male character is also competent, strong, natural born leader and hero
Male power fantasy.
>sexy female character is a walking pair of tits who either falls in love with the previous mentioned male(the player) or goes out of her way to remind you she is tits first person second
>Female character uses her sexiness with a mixture of wit to exploit others to make her own gains and accomplish her own agenda.
Female power fantasy. You can also refer to the EXAMPLE THAT YOU IGNORED
>Denying Xenoblade was a success
Dude are you for real? I didn't say it was "mad popular".
Holy shit you're not even reading the posts are you? you're just skimming and spitting out stock replies aren't you!
That's just sad man :/
well, a general rule of business is to please your customers with quality products and such so they keep coming back, with good service generating recommendations that will possibly bring in more customers based on said service. Ignoring your customers and creating products that they could find unsatisfactory and then say you, as the business owner know whats best or some such is a quick way to lose them, and therefore money. That guy is trying to prove a point in the wrong way.
>Do I have to sing it for you for you to get it? :/
Give it a shot. I understand completely what you mean by saying that being sexy and and having power is a female power fantasy. What I do not understand is how sexy women in games is somehow against this. Yes, they're there mostly for the males, but some women can enjoy them too. God knows I've seen women play as huge-titted characters who dress like sluts in games with a character creator. I've seen men do the exact same thing with female characters.
>You see, literally opposite of the point.
So sexy men is a male fantasy, so it's not okay? Sexy women is a male fantasy so it's okay?
And what's wrong with a little sexual objectification. Spoiler alert:
Women do it too.. It has no place in real life, I don't condone treating real women like sex objects, because they aren't. In fiction though? It's fiction. Not everything needs to be like real life. You may as well attack mindless violence next. People will always look for an escape from reality from time to time, and sometimes you won't like their fantasies. Get over it, it's their fantasy, go have your own.
>You can also refer to the EXAMPLE THAT YOU IGNORED
Not really, it just doesn't make sense that sexiness as a power fantasy is okay but sexy women in fictional in general is not.
>Denying Xenoblade was a success
Haha, you really need to work on your reading comprehension.
>Holy shit you're not even reading the posts are you? you're just skimming and spitting out stock replies aren't you!
Honestly I'm wondering the same about you. You support repressing primal fantasies and "bad" thoughts. I don't. We're never going to agree, so just quit while you're ahead.
>my arse can produce its own brown sauce
>tfw no qtpi indian wife
seeing as those fashion magazines and the like catered to ladies with adds on how to drop weight with no work and how to look drop dead gorgeous still sell, i think your stance about how ladies want to look sexy is a personal view, no doubt shared by others, but still mostly personal. Also, Miss universe and similar competitions still exist, so there is that backing the whole women want look sexy goddess thing(sexy can be beautiful, and vice versa).
X5 was probably the worst X game until 7 but holy shit son, the knew not what they were asking for, I'd kill for a game like X5 to come out right now. Also it's funny how they talk shit about the graphics when they've aged better than 90% of the rest of the PS1 library at the time.
I lost all my toys, TGC and PS1/PS2 shit. At least the PS2 games were easy to buy back since I had nothing rare. But I can only dream of finding my Magic and Pokemon cards ever again, also my Gameboy carts, I only have Silver left. At least my comics are safe but then again, it's not like I have anything rare.
The thought of that gave me physical pain anon.
You can buy wallscrolls of videogame girls in Ebay, modern gamers dont need buy "gaming magazines" with bikinis covers when oficial merchandising of that bikinis exist since ages ago.
first off I Agree with you
but mostly in the late 90's with crispin, che chou and greg ( I hated nascar loving Canadians but he was ok)
but didn't shoe start a web site that failed miserably and got crushed by kotaku
and isn't there a current egm mag out now with sean baby or something ?
believe it or not anon, there was a time when people really fap with printed magazines (Playboy) seriously
Videogame magazines was the Playboy of middle-school kids for "read" on boy restrooms
i used to take these PSM swimsuit editions into the bathroom and fap furiously
looking back, they're stilll pretty nice but
for some of them. they should look cuter
oh yeah, i remember that one
i liked PSM, still got the first 100 or so issues
i liked the covers but they became shit once they hit the early/mid 00's PS2 era with those 3D covers
