Getting into Japanese game is a hurdle these days, around 1 year ago I literally detested all Japanese vidiya and saw it as pedo shit, substanceless weeb games but over time have come out to appreciate that some of their games are in-depth and engaging. It also kinda helps being able to know whats shit and what isn't but that is called developing taste and it takes time. You'll instantly go for the flashy AAA-esque titles at first while denying the high quality niche stuff. Anyway It took a while for me to understand where Japanese gmaing was at and it did help I had some psp/ps2 mileage under my belt so I had played Japanese games before.

The problem I think is many won't even contemplate looking into other genres or games in the very first place these days. Normies are worlds away in their own minds of ever appreciating or acknowleging Japanese vidiya these days and it's hard to pull away from all the ubisoft and steam/bethsesda brainwashing when it dominates your main sources of media. It was a good thing I guess, playing TOCS on vita at the moment. Oh yeah, all the good shit is still on console which is.. yeah. Japan loves their consoles.

This makes the most sense. Considering how the golden age of japanese games on consoles in the west is 20 years ago. Any 8 year old who grew up with the past 10 years of gaming would have only experienced the PS3/360/PC ports which had little to no japanese games due to the industry self destructing over the years.

Now they're 18 and there's barely any japanese games they've experienced so they all call japanese games weebshit. Combined with all the gaming press and western developers trying to shit on japanese developers, a lot of 18 year olds today would have gotten a horrible impression of japanese games.

Japan as a whole is declining and putting everything on mobiles, this is their last burst and last try on consoles and handhelds in a desperate attempt to make japanese games popular again. I really doubt that people will buy the japanese games in large enough numbers to sustain more games like this in the future.

DaS3 is Souls like always, but looks a lot better than the horrible decline in quality that DaS2 was

DQXI and SO5 are lazily made JRPGs like their predecessors

Fighting games are fighting games, but SFV will probably grow bigger than SFIV and T7 might bring Tekken back if they learned from their mistakes (doubt it)

Nintendo handhelds thrive due to 3rd party developers in japan. As their games sell less and less, we're just going to see them close down like we've already did for some great and old japanese studios.

One day Nintendo will see that they are selling less and less handhelds and will try to find a way to sustain the market to keep themselves alive as well.
