MKX isn't fun at a competitive level also the extra features which it has built itself around since Deadly Alliance are super trash. 9 had a better crypt and tower and story. Plus it's the most renowned fighter, possibly even more than SF but scene is dead for it and they keep pushing DLC.

KI on the other hand had been dead for almost 20 years, had to start from scratch, made by fuckimg Double Helix of all people then passed on to Irin Galaxy, exclusive to Xbone and now W10, but despite that it came out much better than anyone expected. Has an amazing tutorial for beginners, music is good, gameplay is fresh, high level play is tight, and even all 10 xbone owners in Japan take an interest in it.

If you mean competitive scene, then MKX is actually still flourishing. Despite it's annoying 50/50 guessing games, and retarded ass pressure characters, the people who play it still really like it. It still gets very large tournament numbers, especially compared to KI.
The KIT tournament happening this week or next, MKX has the most entrants out of all the games, though it's only beating SF because no one wants to play Ultra right now with 5 on the way.
Fucking Injustice has more entrants then KI.

The KOF way woudn't have worked as well for MK.

Because as retarded as this sounds, the run functions sole purpose wasn't just for quick mobility.
It was designed around the meta game of Kabals NDC's but made universal across the cast, and as a way to tone down block dashing with out pissing off MK9 players.

You can't have any delay between the dash and the run, the run has to be an instantaneous input so you can have as smooth run cancels as possible.

Basically blame Kabal and his effect on the meta in MK.

MK9 still has an input bug were you can't attack/block low at times and MKX has bugs were hitboxes don't work in some situations like for Sub's ice clone and Mileenas crouching 1. I haven't followed MK since summer because fuck off with all the shitty coding.
